that's awesome!!

sure diy if you got the 20,000 dollar tools lying around and the 500$ in materials.. but 500$ would be more than enough to buy a prebuilt steel squat rake
Gardners Garage (16 дней назад)
Dont be silly Jerred Calwell . Its not $20,000. Lets try closer to $1500 for all my tools used. And it is a DIY. I did it myself, thats me in the video! If I had the $20,000 lying around, I would have bought a prebuilt steel squat rake.
marko modic (1 месяц назад)
do you have any dimensions
Gardners Garage (1 месяц назад)
Not anymore. I just used the same dimensions as the rogue racks. They have them on their site

Love the drill jig! Lay it out once and drill a kilzillion holes
Anđelko Magić (1 месяц назад)
Can you send me the blueprints ?

Hey man I loved the video. I just uploaded one myself but in mine I built a dumbbell rack. I’d love for you to check it out and maybe even leave some feedback ! 😁

Obviously great work but diy is to show how the average Joe can do it not how a skilled pro can do ot with thousands of $ in tools can do it. But yeah I bet rogue would hire you in a second
Allan Carson (5 месяцев назад)
This guy is a very good fabricator and I'm a boilermaker,he uses drill jigs and his welding is nice and neat.

Build me one, Bro. Nice work.

Beautiful craftsmanship, can I ask how many years experience you have working with metal?
Gardners Garage (6 месяцев назад)
Well I started my apprenticeship at 17 years old in 1996 when I graduated high school. Worked as a tool maker till 2003 and got a new career!

That's awesome, man! I honestly considered this project, but then saw the pricing on racks from Titan. The chinese are just incredible. I was able to buy the entire thing, finished, for just a little more than what I could buy square tubes for. Great job, though! You are a stud!
warpull (8 месяцев назад)
no need drill so many holes if custom, just where you neeed IT
warpull (8 месяцев назад)
true but only within that range YES, not like 10- 12 inches off the ground or something
Jim in the Gym (8 месяцев назад)
I really wouldn't try to do it that way. Just think about all the times you adjust something on your rack to the next hole above or below. You don't want to have too few holes in your rack. The adjustability is one of the points of having a rack.
Gardners Garage (8 месяцев назад)
It’s gotta look good though!

Who needs a spray booth?

What speed did you drill the holes at? I remember making my power rack with a 25mm tct hole saw bit and it took around 10 hours to drill all 120 holes through 3mm thick steel at a low speed. Also do you think the torque of the drill press matters? Because mine would always stop spinning when I would push down too hard. Need advice for when I make my strongman yoke
Uriel Cardenas (9 месяцев назад)
Do you sell these?
Gardners Garage (9 месяцев назад)
Yes I do. $550 Canadian
Nick Furiously (9 месяцев назад)
I’m assuming your a tradesman, what was the cost to manufacturer this, including materials and labor, and taking that in to consideration, are Rogues’ prices fair in your opinion? That’s technically two different questions.
Gardners Garage (9 месяцев назад)
It costs about $220 to build it, thats all the steel, 2 j-hooks and all the bolts as well as painting it. Is it the same quality as rogue? well, i drill each hole and dont laser cut them, so there is a small bur (on the INSIDE), but all the holes are within thousands of an inch. Its not powder coated, but it is industrial quality paint that I spray. It does the exact same job and is almost as good quality as rogue (except for above differences) Labour, I could build it in an 8 hour day

awesome work man, you are an artist !! im thinking of biting the bullet and getting myself a magnetic drill for my garage workshop
Gardners Garage (9 месяцев назад)
I would love one.. Id like to build a welding table and put the holes in it so i can easily clamp things down.

Excellent work! for the floor supports What material did you use? Did you lay down the rectangles of a steel plate (how thick) or did you get them from that size?
James Owens (2 месяца назад)
Hey any chance I could get material list? It's a winter project to get my old ass back in shape
Gardners Garage (9 месяцев назад)
i use 3/8 thick flat bar for the feet
Ming Jae (9 месяцев назад)
What drill bit are you using for the large hole? Mine took about 12-20s to drill a hole on 3mm plate, yours seems a good one
Gardners Garage (9 месяцев назад)
I’m just using HSS bits. Nothing fancy
Vasillias Aesculapius (10 месяцев назад)
So you know you have to start selling these so us poor fat folk who are too ashamed to go near the weights at the gym can get ripped right? You have been chosen! (or at least sell me one lol

Hey man excellent build. I've been considering building a rack myself. I'm all tooled up to do so I'm just curious where you pulled your dimensions and hole pattern layout from. I would like to build a rack exactly like this one. Thanks!
dikinurface (1 год назад)
this guy works very fast, it would take a normal person weeks to create this.
JESSE HEPBURN (1 год назад)
@Gardners Garage how much did it cost you in raw materials and consumables?
JESSE HEPBURN (1 год назад)
Thanks bro, loved the vid!
Gardners Garage (1 год назад)
JESSE HEPBURN that rack for all the steel, bolts and pre fab j hooks was about 200$ maybe just a bit over. Plus the paint It's worth it to make it. But it is a lot of work laying out the holes and drilling them all. But it's a fun hobby

Fantastic work, most impressive! What type of steel tubing did you use? (not the dimensions, the actual material type)
End0fthelin3 (1 год назад)
Thanks! Love your work. This fall I am planning to learn to weld at a local tech school.
Gardners Garage (1 год назад)
End0fthelin3 it'a just your everyday mild steel tube. 1/8" wall
Mohammed Harris Ashraff (1 год назад)
awesome video bro.. how much maximum weight it can withstand ? I am a beginner and can I use 200 amp arc welder for building this one ?
Gardners Garage (10 месяцев назад)
+Steve Schwartz that is mig welding and 11 gauge steel.
Steve Schwartz (10 месяцев назад)
I wouldn't use stick for this, use either MIG or TIG. I'm just a welding student but last year I was tig welding 10 ga. steel, and ran around 150-170 amps. but 11 gauge is I believe 0.119 inches thick, so keep in mind heat, the fact its so thin and stay away from galvanized. welding that will kill you if you don't know what you're doing.
kokoy (1 год назад)
Excellent video, appreciate it! I'm a beginner welder and was wondering if this project could be done with a 120V 125 AMP MIG welder? (Forney) I'm also looking for an excuse to buy more tools. :)
Gardners Garage (1 год назад)
kokoy oh and you can never have enough tools
Gardners Garage (1 год назад)
kokoy thanks! I don't see why it wouldn't be ok. You can get decent welds with them. As long as u make sure u have it set up properly
Thomas Ferguson (1 год назад)
Brilliant work, how much did it cost you?
SmiteYa (1 год назад)
There is no way in hell I could DIY that.
Gardners Garage (10 месяцев назад)
+Crimsonindian thanks. It’s diy because I did it myself!!
Crimsonindian (11 месяцев назад)
no shit, DIY for a pro that has all the tools, experience using those tools...none the less, it is pretty sweet and it would be super satisfying to lift in it knowing you built it
dikinurface (1 год назад)
and years of experience, knowhow and mad skills
Gardners Garage (1 год назад)
SmiteYa with the right tools u can. It's just a lot of work.

great video, thank you for the upload, I have a question, i have the 2×3 11 gauge steel, and I was thinking about upgrading to the 3x3 11 gague steel have you ever consider doing 3x3? i wonder if been 3x3 would make the rack way more stronger and durable? also my steel is made in Canada, is the steel quality the same as the USA or better? usually use northern light brand on the uprights are you familiar with them? thank you so much .
Gardners Garage (1 год назад)
Thanks for watching and the comment! I have made one with 3x3 before (11 gauge) I all honesty I dont think you will notice any difference in making it stronger. I think you see 3x3 from rogue because it looks bigger and badder. I make it with 2x3 all the time because I buy the j-hooks from Fitness Depot .. the Northern Lights brand. Where as if I wanted the 3x3 I would have to find them online .. probably Rogue and they are crazy expensive. I also am in Canada. I'm Waterloo Region in Ontario
