I was on anti depressants for 3 years after my new doctor decided to have a full blood work up on me he found out that the reason I was depressed was because I have a vitamin D deficiency. It has been a year since I took any medications and I feel so much better.

I have bone calcification, kidney disease, skin pimples on my scalp that bleed, losing my hair, minor calcification of my heart valve , dehydration, and if you don't use k2, it gets worse. Everyone has it in my building that takes d3. I've been taking it at 50,000 IU for 5 years! I quit by accident and sores were going away but didn't relate it until tonight when I took one...ALL BACK AGAIN..and ear ache, vertigo...listened to a doctor who said this is why...d3! I'm in pt therapy because of bone calcification, and was walking sideways, having severe neck and back spasms. Arteries can turn to bone with too much D3! Why don't they tell us?! My sister, brother in Las Vegas NV have GFR at 53, 50 respectively, and me in WA state at GFR 47. We take vitamin D3. Who didn't tell us about K2. And itching! Severe constipation for years.

Man made Vitamin D3 pills are a rodenticide and not good for human health... Most doctors got it wrong when they say cod liver oil is a good source of vitamin D. The latest research revealed that retinol, which is the animal form of vitamin A that is present in cod liver oil will decrease the efficacy of vitamin D. For a healthy skin you should eat a lot of vegies.Simply because your skin also needs nutrition.Also going with a pale skin straight away in the most heavy sun can give you burn so build it up and your skin will become more resistent as you build a tan.For details check John Bergman vids on YouTube and also other health issues.When you go to a tan salon they wisely also advice you first times to build it slowly up because that's simply how your body works.Black people already have it in there skin.When you do it like this you can avoid the chemicals.We all need the sunshine Vit D is one of the most important Vit.Never led any doctor prescribe you any cure which you need to avoid the sun.Like for example curing cancer or skin deseases.If you have a skin desease better look if you have fatty liver desease and fix that by eating cleaner from now on.

Well..some fermented dairy like cheese in moderation is fine although I've cut out cheese from daily use, the biggest problem with dairy is cow's milk, that's the worst..that's literally asking for a bunch of toxins. Cut it out and get almond milk (or soy milk if you're female) and notice how better you feel! Cow's piss is not the best!

There are so many reasons that Americans are so likely to be vitamin D deficient.  The more you weigh the more vitamin D you need since 1) vitamin D is "sequestered" in fat, so the fatter you are the more supplemental vitamin D you need to keep your blood levels at LEAST 40-60 ng/ml. Dark skin, living further north than LA, the sun rays don't hit us at an angle that saturates the skin with UVB rays, using sun screen, covering the  skin with clothing, staying indoors because "I don't want wrinkled skin", or you prefer air conditioned buildings to the great outdoors, not drinking milk or dairy alternatives with D, and the list goes on. The point is to take enough vitamin D supplement to keep your blood levels at 40-60ng/ml.  I take 10000 per day, 170#, blood level is 80. :)

Toxicity is a concern at 10,000 IU/ day, which is pretty high. Start by taking 2,000 IU/ day, get some sun if you can, and have it checked again in 3 months.

Sunshine (outside not through windows for UVB rays) is the best. Light skin = 10min per 1,000 IU = Dark skin 40min. if you are under 20 years of age 40ng/ml is recommended. 20-29 = 50ng/ml / 30-59 = 60ng/ml / 60-49 = 70ng/ml / 80+ = 80ng/ml . These are 25(OH)D blood levels as measured by a doctor. Always take D3 supplementation in the morning because D3 conversion interferes with melatonin a needed normal sleep hormone. Of course, if you have heart disease, cancer or a family history of either you should strive for the higher 80ng/ml D range.

1,000 IU is garbage. Also what the doctor prescribes to you is likely D2 which has half the half life of D3, it's an inferior form of D3. Just get D3 supplements and super dose them initially, you'll be good for a week..it's simple. Vitamin D is something you should never get from a doctor and one of the only things where OTC is superior.

Remember not to take a shower the day you expose your body to the sun light, 'cause vitamin D needs at least 24 hours to be absorb, white need only 20 minutes and black skin 45 minutes so your be making like 25,000 IU a day by doing it like this. Only need to do it 3 times a week. And remember not to use sun cream, the more parts of your body you expose the most vitamin D3 you'll be making.

+Pheland123 Everyday close to 30mu2 hours daily from 8 to 10 am will not cause harm. ;) My mother has done this since she was 15, now she's 60, no wrinkles from Sun exposure, no skin cancer, or any other for that matter ( she just uses sunscreen on her face), and she's VERY healthy and beautiful. You will break the collagen in your skin if you expose yourself the whole day or for more than 2 hours.

Do you know UV breaks down the natural collagen in your skin ? It's not a good idea sun bathing everyday, collagen is a protein that creates the elasticity in the skin, once gone you'll look like a leather bag with lots of wrinkles..... Obviously skin cancer is one to look out for

You want to look at the UV levels and in particular the UVb levels. If you don't get VUb at or above 3 then supplementation or expensive VUb light therapy is the way to go.

why would darker skins need to be in the sun more if they need less of the sun? Seeing as pure black absorbs light, wouldn't the darker you are make you the most advantaged to absorb the sun radiation? As Africans moved north and got lighter, they became more sensitive to the sun

The human body is amazing. Any skin that is exposed will produce vitamin D. the only controlling factor is your skin color or the amount of melanin in your skin. Once your body has absorbed what it needs it will store some excess in your fat. If the UVb rays are too strong you can get sun poisoning.  This usually causes blistering, swelling, peeling and cracking of the skin (face and back of neck). for that reason try to stay out of UVb rays over 8.

I will say this again, and again if you really need me to because obviously you do..........I had my blood drawn to find out what nutrients etc I'm lacking.....I will reiterate just for you since you didnt grasp it the first time....I HAD MY BLOOD DRAWN, AND ALL MY LEVELS WERE FINE INCLUDING D3. The reason i had my blood drawn was curiosity of how accurate these entertainment doctors were, and i can say with %100 clear conscious WRONG. Instead of drooling in front of your tv go run...........

The problem with fish is most of the D3 is in the organs. Exactly where most of the Mercury is too. Mercury destroys your nervous system slowly. Best would be to get more SUN.

You sound like someone that has never been in charge of his/her own security. Again i will say, go see a doctor, go see a sports nutritionalist before taking health advice from hollywood, that is all I'm saying, and i give a shit less if you listen to TV for health advice.......

I agree, I've always felt skeptical about him. Once I started hearing my Family and Friends talk about him and start to like him. I thought well first of all they put this guy on tv and he is talking about health.... hmmm... fraud right there. lol They would never put Healthy Advice on tv unless its on a channel nobody goes to like PBS.

"Sellout", how so? Are you unaware of the billion dollar sunscare campaigns the highly profitable cosmetic industry use? They aggressively command you never expose your skin to UV, but why? To sell more SPF containing products. SPF claims can be found on most skincare products. I urge you to do a little research on how a Vitamin D deficiency effects ones health. Dr. Oz had the backbone to bring media attention to the blight that has resulted from people's fear of the sun. MODERATION is key!

Didnt dr ox make his debut on oprah, now doesnt oprah have rediculous amounts of money? You got dr oz on her show talking about how easy it is to lose weight, and is a "wizard" on diet, yet oprah still struggles with her weight. I would think with the amount of money she has weight wouldnt be an issue especially surrounded by these amazing "professional dr'S"?

100,000,000 people need to leave their house occasionally, your body produces vitamin D3 on its own depending on the amount of sun you get. I had my blood drawn a week before this bit and my vitamin D was far from deficient. Welcome to america home of the fear monger and corporate greed that makes you paranoid enough to take health advice from TV, ESPECIALLY CNN, ABC etc.

I guess it would depend on which brand of cod liver oil you are using. Unlike the one that she was using, I'm using Nordic Naturals orange flavor and Carlson cod liver oil, which are not bad at all.

How come Dr Oz dosnt talk about Natural Water from a Spring, what does he want you to drink filtered tap water cause it has minerals, lmao! He also never talks about Magnesium Deficiency which is more important than Vitamin D3. He Needs to Talk about Whats #1 Important not trying you to go buy his own Vitamin D capsules. What a joke
