Cameron Russell admits she won "a genetic lottery": she's tall, pretty and an underwear model. But don't judge her by her looks. In this fearless talk, she takes a wry look at the industry that had her looking highly seductive at barely 16-years-old. (Filmed at TEDxMidAtlantic.) Its true .Thats why Melania looks sooo unhappy .Because beauty doesnt last for ever. I have seen many beautiful women being lonely and depressed and many not so atractive ones being happy and more positive about life. And the opposite of course .Beauty helps but isnt everything. Most powerful women in the World rich and appreciated are not models ,they are not even beautiful ,they are regular looking women (Opra ,Ellen de generis ,Angela Merkel ..) We all want to be loved and appreciated for who we are not the way we look ,because looks goes away very fast .....love yourself !
when she was talking about all the privileges being beautiful has, she didn't at all conveince me that looks aren't eveything. I mean, I am as insecure as 100% so I still think it's better to be beautiful and insecure than ugly and insecure.
We always want things we cannot achieve or that are not in our own hand.
If you are beautiful (on the outside (mainstream thinking)), then you have to admit that u have some big advantages in real life.
But we all know that it doesn't really matter.
If you are ugly (on the outside (mainstream thinking)), then u have to admit that u have some hard times, because of how you are looking on the outside, for OTHERS.
The thing is, it really doesn't matter if u are ugly or beautiful. If u wanna have a good life, work hard get rich and make yourself beautiful with money.
I saw a lot of ugly people on the IN and OUTside with a lot of cash. (But I know that they never be that happy as I am)
Cameron Russel is showing us just the reality and that she is able to think over that goal to be beautiful. She clearly says that her Job is to be a Construction. A Model.
Thank u for speaking out Cameron.
that was one of the bravest speeches I've ever heard given everything you said was true and I love that you are so inclusive and aware of where we need to work on things as funny as it sounds those people in that audience and those that listen to this video will listen because you're beautiful sorry to say that's the way it is my whole life I fought against people seeing me on a superficial level and I really feel that the things that you are trying to help us to see will generate outwards and continue to help us to grow thank you for your time and bravery
I don't understand those who are leaving snarky comments. It doesn't matter that she was nervous, nor that she has remained a model, even though it is not as great as career as some people imagine it to be. She's already looking forward, as she has tuition money saved for college. How many models have gone to college after their short career is over? I like this Ted talk.
YouTube comments are the most realest reflections of human behavior. Give people the opportunity to say what they really feel and remain anonymous that’s when you’ll get the truth. I mean a lot of people say mean things virtually but in real life they are the “nicest” people.
I’m not against people expressing their opinion. If it was bad for you then eyyyyyyyyyy cool. But some of these comments are malicious, strategically designed to destroy another human being.
If she turned that into my college class as a video project or something she would get an A plus from me lol.. she's a smart girl, very passionate about life. Women are beautiful and sometimes we are just trained to be insecure, through society, and social meida networks. If we are confident about it some people get intimidated by it, but I think I love make up because it is fun to experiment with it, it's a hobbie, and sometimes guys don't understand it, and over think it, but if it makes her feel healthy and it brings out her joy and spirit, that's a good thing. I think girls should take pride in their hobbies, and passions, when they do this it builds character, as long as you like it, but if it doesn't there's always an option to find another path. it doesn't mean men are not gorgeous either, sometimes there so gorgeous that I forget what I'm doing.
Money isn't everything, says the wealthy man...
Beauty isn't everything, says the supermodel...
You can be alone despite having a large group of friends, says the charismatic life of the party...
Just stop already... No matter how many times the wealthy and the powerful try to sell us the same Bullshit lines to make us content with our lot in life, it never rings true...
Some people can work and strive and never reach their dreams no matter how hard they try, and making yet another speech about how "tough" you have it as a model or celebrity or wealthy CEO does not magically make you more relatable to everyone else...
Save your Bullshit for those naive enough to believe it...Or better yet, stop trying to lie to us in the first place...
ridiculous. she has no "privilege", she is only whining about her industry, because she is nearing an age where she will not get most top jobs any more, or she simply is trying see bejond her "bubble"and can not. being judged by how you look everyday, happens to every woman all the time, all over the world, no matter what they do, or look like. getting out of a speeding ticket happens to ugly people too, if the cop is nice and you made an honest mistake once in your life. be thankful to the cop and do not be arrogant. getting gifts as a celebrity is also not new and happens to ugly celebity too. regarding "privileges", she should try getting a job in the "real world", than she would be shocked by how many drop dead beautiful model-type woman work in everyday 9-5 Jobs, without ever getting any ("White" or "Beauty") privilege. In fact, it is even harder to get, or keep a job because you are discriminated more as an attractive (White, black, whatever ..) woman, than as a not so pretty one. go and get a corporate job Woman ! and than talk to us again about "white beauty privilege " and the "genetic lottery" you thought you won .you are in one industry, at a certain time and place, get out of that "bubble" and you will be shocked. good luck! and btw. i do not judge you by how you dress, what you look like, or your skin color, but by what you speak. i do not hate or dislike you and i see your beauty and i see your good intend, but your words are those of a person living in a "bubble". leave that bubble for a corporate job in the real world and than come back to talk to us again about "your genetic privilege" in the real world. spoiler alert : most men will not hire you, but rather want to date you and reject you therefore for a job you apply for , and most woman will be too jealous to work with you and not employ you, or bully you at work. - good luck with leaving your "bubble" !
No single aspect of life is "everything". It's combination of valued things in society (looks, wealth, intelligence, personality, etc) that makes up for everything. If you at least have one of the above, you should be thankful for it. There's no such thing as DRAWBACK to any of those thing. Any drawback is the result of complex interaction between many variables either inside of you (your traits, personal experience, neuroticism) or outside of you (other people, society), not from your looks or other valued things.
What some people dont understand is when ppl think your perfect they hate you it's called jealousy. Only guys will be nice if they think they can get something from you. Personally ppl tell me how pretty I am and how perfect my little family is but I cringe when they say that because later they are the ones that talk behind my back or try to sabotage. Women do this all the time, it's exhausting and makes me antisocial.
Good looking guys get treated way better also. Just look at (datin apps' stats!) Good looking guy smiles at a woman, its great etc. ... If you are not good looking and smile at some one you're immediatelly a creep or some kind of stocker or psycho without exception.
She makes a point to transform how she looks and then says there is very little we can do to change how we look. This very typical of TED talks where people are putting on a show for emotionally based reasoning with little or no logic allowed to interfere.
Commentors are proving the point of their own superficiality, probably because they themselves are below average physically, envy others, or have deep seeded issues. How is that an attractive person's fault?! Society is vain. Blame the people that put others on a pedestal. That's the real issue.
The title says "Looks aren't everything", it doesn't say "Looks are nothing".
Her point wasn't "You're having a better life if you look uglier than me".
Her point was this:
Being a model is great because models look amazing and make a lot of money. But what people don't knows that model isn't one of the best jobs in the world because they're the ones that are being judged and the most insecure about their bodies.
And people judge others depending on the looks. She, as a model, experiences this a lot because people see her as the attractive woman in the photoshoots but not as her real self.
Wtf did I just hear? This talk had nothing to do with anything. Just some blabbering about being so pretty you get free things and some BS about left propaganda about this made up social inequality because minorities statistically do commit more crime than whites do per capita. What a waste of time this video is.
she tells thouse pics are the constructions but i disagree with that as even on the compared pictures on the right she still looks beautiful and it didnt change much. if makeup artists and hairstylists could use that kind of magic - they wouldnt do it on models only, as it doesnt change regular ppl much as well as the clothing\underware changes body shape and bones we were born with
Just happened upon this talk. I watched about 4 minutes and that was enough. How dare she be the victim; to suggest her looks are an albatross is to negate the real suffering many women and men go through for reasons too vast for her vapid brain to handle.
I have such bad body dysmorphia I have no idea how attractive or ugly I am at this point, I have no perception of what I look like at all. Kinda comforting to know you can always make up for it in personality. There’s hope for everyone. No matter how you look, you’ll find someone and you can live a full life
I won't be able to look at a magazine cover the same ever again. The images of Cameron in print vs. real life were the most moving to me. After witnessing that, everything she said made sense to me. It's easier to understand the struggles of beauty and the effect it can have on a persons happiness. A very complex and deep topic brought to you by one of the most attractive people in the world. I hope this gets a trillion views.
I read the comments before watching the video and I highly regret doing so. Most of the comments I read were negative so I was expecting to not like what I was about to watch. I was completely wrong. I’m so glad she shared her story.
She lost me when she say '' I'm privilige White women'' , i dont like racist people so after that i dont care what will say about anything , the color of the skin is not important and if u say somthing about the race of anyone then u are stupid racist and evil person .
There is no point of being salty and judgmental. For what it’s worth, she is one of not so many privileged people who actually admits that she is and clearly is grateful for the opportunities she has been given. She inherited the legacy of being beautiful and thin, and even if she wanted to, she could never undo it. It was an utterly powerful speech with all the nervous laughs and stumbles. Trying being a model in the industry where you’re constantly judged by your looks and rejected when those looks aren’t up to scratch and still remain such a compassionate and kind person that Cameron Russel is. Beauty fades away, but being a decent human being is long lasting. I wish everyone who is reading this a great day and send you some positive vibes!
Shiny hair is just chemicals bar asian women genetically have shiny hair. It’s out of a bottle. Use a non chemical natural shampoo then tell me if you have shiny hair 🙄. Shiny hair does not = healthy or beautiful hair. Beauty is something we define. We should throw TVs out don’t buy magazines. I don’t and I honestly don’t care what the white beauty industry sees as beauty I’m asian I have my sisters mother nieces aunts friends as models I can look up to.
This woman is beautiful but it’s a very common look too many folks look like her . Uniqueness and intelligence makes us stand out beauty alone means nothing just an empty shell
She really spoke the truth. We all know there are stereotypes out there in which some benefit and some do not. It’s the way of the WORLD. She was brave for coming out and speaking so candidly about her experiences. Great talk!
im a guy and was said to be Beautiful(not to brag or something but lot had told me) but i cant get the Job i wanted, they told that looks in that certain industry matters and i do got it, infact they told me i had exceeded their qualification however sometimes they have prefferences, and they don't PREFER me so i was rejected....made me realized that only limited things in life is acquireable through looks but more serious stuff can't be..as it requires quality...and quality means not what you look outside but what your character was made from...although i believe and know that everyone has their own beauty that makes us all technically beautiful but sadly its the society that currepted our minds that setted a standard on how we label ourself through it...i wish we could take tym to appreciate our own individuality and not judge others for not complying to our own standards as well.😊
One of my daughters is gorgeous and did some modeling. She decided it wasn't for her and became a successful professional. I wanted to share with the readers that in spite of her looks, the girl has had a difficult life. Her beauty is not enough to counter the effects of her narcissism. And she doesn't inspire much pity because people feel she brings everything upon herself.
Can someone please explain her point to me? She explains how she gets a free pass in life because she's beautiful. How am I supposed to take away from that "looks aren't everything"? I'm not trying to be mean or a troll; honest question.
First of I'm a model, and i completely understand her opinion, what people see is not always what is happening, some really shady stuff is constantly happening around you. People also see models as dumb or that they can't be independent, and some of us has to life with that, because we can't always defend ourselves. It's not all bad, but its really frustrating, you constantly have to worry about what you wear and if you look good enough to go out. So for people who don't experience that, they don't understand that some girls who are models would rather be ugly than "pretty"
I respect your opinion, but don't judge if you haven't experienced it❤️
On today’s market there are many products with such orientation, but most popular is advertised brand Viagra tablets.
Appropriate tests show a positive result, which is about thirty per cent of all subjects. But here it is necessary to take into account the psychological aspect, since a positive result will not be at the unwillingness of sexual intimacy.
Cialis is yet another pill for impotence. Cialis and Viagra can be called brothers. Effectiveness of tablet lasts for about 30 hours. Cialis action when compared to Viagra, is faster. Cialis acts on the walls of blood vessels, preventing them from relaxing, thanks to the influence of substances that trigger it.
Cialis is admissible to the use of alcoholic beverages. The drug takes effect quickly, and the action is very long. What is best Cialis Viagra or Levitra
