7,000 IUs/daily of Vitamin D needed claim researchers - The recommended intake of vitamin D specified by the IOM is 600 IU/day through age 70 years, and 800 IU/day for older ages. "Calculations by us and other researchers have shown that these doses are only about one-tenth those needed to cut incidence of diseases related to vitamin D deficiency," - "We call for the NAS-IOM and all public health authorities concerned with transmitting accurate nutritional information to the public to designate, as the RDA, a value of approximately 7,000 IU/day from all sources." * A Statistical Error in the Estimation of the Recommended Dietary Allowance for Vitamin D Nutrients 2014, 6(10), 4472-4475; doi:10.3390/nu6104472 - http://clinicalnews.org/2015/03/20/recommendation-for-vitamin-d-intake-was-miscalculated-is-far-too-low-experts-say-7000-iuday/

I started taking 10,000 IU a day 4 years ago to combat high bp before I was medicated. I noticed marked improvements in mood and stopped getting sick as in zero colds, sinus infections, bronchitis... so I continued. Have not used one sick day in 4 years. Everyone is telling me Im nuts and I am killing myself while they are sniffling, coughing and frequently sick. I take k2 as well.

My God, man, your calculations are way off! 1 IU = 0.025 mcg for vitamin D. So, 1000 IU = .025 milligrams or mg. Basically, 10,000 IU = 1/4 milligram Vitamin D.

Thanks for your video and getting the word out about Vitamin D. It is very important.

Well that is humbling, those calculations were, in fact, way off as it normally is 400 IU approx equivalent to 10mcg as you pointed out. Ironic as well https://youtu.be/Vg06vFNx8mQ?t=1m23s as well. Thank you for the catch, I removed that part as that rest was not necessary of the segment was not necessary. - Ralph Turchiano

I will start taking 5,0000 IU x 2 for 10,000 IU. Plus just discovered K2 will keep calcium out of body tissue and put in bones where 99% of the calcium is. So calcium citrate low dose of 400 mg plus the magnesium citrate 800 mg daily. I read where high dosing for a short period is good way to push you into the 80-100 ng/ml range. I plan on getting my Vit D level tested twice yearly. At age 71, I want to be active for many years (the ones I have left hopefully 20 or more) and maintaining near 100 ng//ml of Vit D is way to go.
