I harvested the flowers as they blooms and dehydrated them for later use. After I bug up the plants, trimmed the tops off, rinsed in water then placed the leaves on the dehydrator tray and let them dry over night. Then I clean the roots by soaking, shacking and rinsing in water over and over again, until they were clean. I then dehydrated them all day and overnight. One Native American tribe named Cherokee, which lives in the southeast part of the U.S, believed that the Almighty Creator gave them a gift of preserving and understanding medical plants. They believed a lot in the healing properties of the natural medical herbs. They gathered the plants with a special technique, picking every third plant they found because, in that way, enough specimens will remain in order to keep up propagate. So, take a look at the 11 plants commonly used by this tribe: 1. Blackberry. Cherokee used blackberry for treating almost everything, including an upset stomach, strengthening the immune system, cancer prevention, improving digestion, and better heart functioning. By making a tea of its root, this tribe healed swelling of joints and tissues. And if you make a decoction from its roots, thus sweetened with maple syrup or honey, you will get great syrup for treating cough. Chewing the blackberry leaves can soothe bleeding gums. Blackberries an amazingly nutritious because they are rich in vitamins A, C, B6, E, K, riboflavin, thiamine, folate, and minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and phosphorous. 2. Buck Brush (Hummingbird Blossom). Cherokee used this plant for the healing of fibroid tumors, cysts, mouth/throat problems, and inflammation. In addition, they mainly used hummingbird blossom in order to stimulate kidney function, but it was also used in the treatment of enlarged lymph nodes, hemorrhoids, inflamed tonsils, enlarged spleens, and menstrual bleeding. In order to get all healing benefits of this plant, they put the flowers and the leaves in boiling water for 5 minutes, and then drink the tea while it’s still hot. 3. Cattail. The Cherokee tribe considered this plant as a preventative medicine and they used it as a digestible food for recovery from each illness. Almost each part of the plant (except its seed heads) can be used for medicinal purposes. Its root can be prepared like potatoes, mashed or boiled for treating sores and burns. The seed down from its flowers is used for diaper rash in babies in the treatment of skin irritation. 4. Greenbriar (Pull Out a Sticker). The leaves and stems of this plant are rich in numerous minerals and vitamins while its roots are high in starch and they can be used like potatoes. Although its root has a strange and harsh taste, it’s rich in calories. Cherokee used this plant as mild diuretic and a blood purifier in the treatment of urinary infections 5. Mint. Being a very popular herb, mint is commonly used in tea because of its numerous antioxidant properties. It possesses phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, vitamins C,A, calcium, and fiber! The Cherokee used the leaves of this plant crushed as cold compresses, or made into ointments, or even added in the bath to calm down and itchy skin. Moreover, they used a mixture of leaves and stems in order to reduce high blood pressure. 6. Mullein. This herb soothes chest congestion and asthma. If you inhale the smoke from burning mullein leaves and roots, it will calm your lungs. This plant is exceptionally useful in soothing the mucous membranes. Due to its anti-inflammatory features, it calms the irritated and painful tissue and joint. Mullein flowers are used to prepare tea that contains a lot of mild sedative effects. 7. Qua lo ga (Sumac). Each part of this plant might be used for medicinal purposes in the treatment of diarrhea, sore throat, and fevers (by making a decoction from the bark). In addition, if you want to get rid of poison ivy rash, you need to crush the leaves into an ointment. 8. Big Stretch (Wild Ginger). A tea made of the root of this plant was used by Cherokee in order to improve digestion, intestinal gas, colic, and upset stomach. A stronger tea from its root can even remove lungs secretion. You might use rootstocks from this plant instead of regular ginger and its flowers for flavoring your favorite recipe. 9. Jiddu Unigisdi (Wild Rose). The fruit of this plant is high in vitamin C and is a great healing remedy for flu and cold. The Cherokee made a tea out of wild rose hips in order to stimulate kidney and bladder function. You can even try to make a decoction from its root to treat diarrhea. 10. Squirrel Tail (Yarrow). Being known best for its blood-clotting features, the leaves of this plant (fresh or crushed) might be put to open wounds in order to prevent excess bleeding. The juice of this plant, when mixed with spring water, might stop intestinal illnesses and internal stomach bleeding. Its leaves can be used for tea in order to help in proper digestion and stimulate abdominal functions. 11. Kawi Iyusdi (Yellow Dock). The Cherokee used this herb in their cuisines because it’s quite similar to spinach. But, it possesses a lot more minerals and vitamins because of its long roots gathers nutrients from deep underground. #HealNaturally #healthtube #healthvideos

Does Valerian Root Lower Blood Pressure? There is one organ which causes high blood pressure (and it's not what you think!) and there are specific exercises you can use to target and fix your blood pressure easily. No diet, lifestyle changes or medication required: http://hibloodpressure.stream/ Answers from: Lana Shevchuk It might lower blood pressure. It is one of its actions as listed in my course manual. It says hypotensive, and one of its uses is for high blood pressure. I was prescribed valerian root during my teen years as a nervine and hypotensive after I had a concussion and suffered from high blood pressure as a result. But I was prescribed it along with motherwort and white peony, which I had to cycle each for 1 month. Motherwort had a much better effect on my blood pressure. The prescription was given by a neurologist at the clinic, not by a herbalist or any complimentary health practitioner. More: https://youtu.be/rfgY-SsoJTg Subscribe to our channel!

Yarrow Willard is a Clinical Herbalist in Cumberland BC, co-owner and formulator for Harmonic Arts (harmonicarts.ca). He enjoys working with and discovering new plant medicines. This video is an intro to Jackass bitters a powerful mayan medicine. It is part of a video series that will be released soon, looking at the Mayan herbs of the Peten rainforest in Belize and Guatemala. Jackass Bitters is a member of the Asteraceae family and a common Central American plant. It has yellow flowers and bitter-tasting leaves which contain a potent anti-parasitic agent (sesquiterpene dialdehyde) that is active against amoebas, candida, giardia and intestinal parasites. Traditionally, the herb is taken internally as a tea or a wine or used topically to bathe wounds and infections, or as a hair wash to get rid of lice. There is some preliminary research that indicates Jackass Bitters helps regulate blood sugar levels, which can ultimately help diabetics manage their condition. A subsequent animal study showed that a tincture of this plant lowered blood glucose levels in animals. A tea made from the root is used to cleanse the blood and a leaf tea is used to treat intestinal parasites, malaria, fungus and ringworm. It is also used to prevent infection and to use as a hair wash for ridding the hair of head lice. Boiled and strained leaves have been used as an insecticide for house and garden plants. Read my full written review of the valerian tea remedy here: https://sleepopolis.com/blog/valerian-root-tea-sleep-remedy-review/ Note: The content on Sleepopolis is meant to be informative in nature, but it shouldn’t be taken as medical advice, and it shouldn’t take the place of medical advice and supervision from a trained professional. If you feel you may be suffering from any sleep disorder or medical condition, please see your healthcare provider immediately. THE REMEDY This remedy is pretty straightforward. Basically, all you have to do is brew a small cup of valerian root tea and then drink it 30 minutes before you want to go to bed. You could also take a valerian capsule or drink a concoction with valerian root already incorporated into it, but I decided to make up a cup of my own. I should note that you reportedly need to let the tea steep in a covered cup for at least 15 minutes before drinking it. To find out if this really does the trick you'll have to watch the video or read my full post!

Devil's Club is used as a tonic for chronic stress of the glands such as the adrenal, pituitary, and hypothalamic. Recent scientific studies have found anti-tuberculosis chemicals in Devil's Club root extracts. Furthermore, consumption of the drupes is believed to be fairly toxic to humans. The berries of Devil's club are poisonous, and the stems and leaves should not be eaten after the thorns on the plant have hardened. Those diagnosed with diabetes should see their medical practitioners regularly while using Devil's club, as it may change the way that insulin works in the body. http://drtomobrien.ie/valerian-natures-tranquilizer/ Mental health today in Ireland is something that concerns all of us. We all suffer from depression, anxiety, insomnia and addiction at some level and at some time. Yes, its true, we do. Eckart Tolle suggests the biggest addiction of our time is addiction to thinking! Think about it ;-) The main discourse or approach to treating mental health is informed by the medical model. Your recommended to go to your GP (Doctor), who will most likely prescribe you anti-depressants, or anti-anxiety drugs. All of these drugs have limited outcomes and often leave people with nasty side effects. Herbal medicine is another pathway, to treat depression, anxiety and addiction. However it has been overshadowed and dominated by the power of the medical model that abaondoned natural healing in favor of the scientific model. Today we know that science is limited. It has its place, but so does nature. There are many herbs that can be used to treat the nervous system such as skull cap, valerian, St John's wort, passion flower and lemon balm to mention a few. Many of these herbs have been studies and show to be beneficial. However due to the power and influence of the pharmaceutical industry, it does not want people to believe that nature can heal because it sees people as consumers. Valerian is one of the most effective herbs that a herbalist can use to treat anxiety and stress. It was first used by Hippocrates the father of medicine. Valerian contains volatile oils valerine and valerenal. Valerian works by suppressing the central nervous system. Its actions are sedative, hypnotic, anti-spasmodic and carminative. Valerian is especially effective to reduce stress, tension and anxiety. It helps to improve sleep and over all well being. Valerian has also been found to be effective for improving heart health and can be used to treat irregular heart beat, high blood pressure, and palpitations. Valerian combines well with hawthorn, another great heart herb. Valerian is safe to use and non addictive. Treating the nervous system valerian combines well with skull cap, oat straw, mother wort, and passion flower. Contradictions and interactions: Do not use when pregnant, or if you are a lacating mother. Do not use if you suffer from liver disease or if your prescribed anti-anxiety medications. Always consult your herbalist when taking herbs or your doctor if changing your medications. This post is for information purposes only and herbs must be used under the supervision of a qualified herbalist. Empowering medicine is a holistic channel on Youtube, dedicated to teaching you about herbs and herbal medicine. Like Hippocrates, I believe food is medicine and can heal and prevent all sorts of illnesses. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a serious medical condition which can’t be fixed overnight. If you do have high blood pressure, there are some lifestyle and dietary changes that you can make to begin lowering your blood-pressure right away. You should also get regular screenings at least every two years to discuss whether you might also need medications. 1. Begin exercising right away. Exercise is an excellent way to control high blood pressure. It will help you lose weight, reduce stress, and feel good. Talk to your doctor before beginning a new exercise routine to make sure you are healthy enough 2. Start relaxing right away. Stress increases your blood pressure; if you are experiencing a temporary elevation in blood pressure because of stress, this is one instance in which you might be able to decrease it almost "overnight." Relaxation techniques may help you to keep things in perspective and reduce the physical toll stress takes on your body. Things to try include: • Deep-breathing • Meditation • Yoga 3. Quit smoking or using tobacco. Tobacco hardens and narrows your arteries, which increases your blood pressure. This is true for both smokers and people who are exposed to secondhand smoke. Quitting will improve your health immediately. 4. Reduce your fat and sugar intake immediately. This will help you to control your weight and lower your risk of heart disease. Eat no more than three tablespoons of fat per day and five sweets per week. Easy ways to quickly cut fat and sugar include: • Substituting fruits for dessert rather than the more traditional, fatty and sugary foods like pastries, cookies, cakes, puddings, and candies. • Eat dry sandwiches rather than adding mayonnaise or butter. 5. Reduce your salt consumption right away. Eating too much salt can contribute to high blood pressure. The DASH diet, which is stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, permits only 2,300 mg of salt each day Ways to cut salt include: Cutting down on prepackaged, processed snacks. These often have a lot of salt added for flavoring. Look at the packaging to see how much salt they contain. Foods like salted pretzels, chips, and salted nuts are better avoided all together. 6. Switch immediately to eating whole grain carbohydrates. The DASH diet recommends six to eight servings of grains daily. Whole grains contain more nutrients and fiber than processed white flour. This means that you will get more nutrition per serving and feel less hungry. 7. Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat. This is a great way to quickly improve your diet. The DASH diet recommends four to five servings of fruit and four to five servings of vegetables. A serving size is a half a cup. Because fruits and vegetables are great sources of potassium and magnesium, they will start to control your blood-pressure right away. Snacking on fruits and vegetables between meals. A fresh apple, pear, carrot, or green pepper is neat and easy to pack with you on a busy day.
