Dave gives you the low down on how they work and how to charge them and select a suitable charging IC. NOTE: For safety you should always use circuit protected cells as per the larger cell I was holding up. It protects against over-discharge, over-voltage, shorts etc. (BTW, the reference to Lithium Ion Polymer being the same as Lithium Ion is in terms of charging, if that was not clear. The Ion Polymer type have polymer anode material and hence a different construction that allows the small pouch type cells shown in the video, and other thin odd shapes shown toward the end)

There are a variety of meters, gauges, warning and indicator lights to monitor battery status. Monitoring these displays and adjusting your personal driving techniques accordingly, makes it possible for you to minimize the energy usage in your vehicle. Behind your steering wheel you'll see two meters. In the upper meter you'll find the Master Warning Lights and the ECO Indicator. The lower meter displays the Lithium-ion Battery Temperature Gauge, Power Meter, Driving Range, Lithium-ion Battery Available Charge Gauge and the Lithium-ion Battery Capacity Level Gauge. The Master Warning Lights illuminate when any warning or indicator lights are illuminated or if any vehicle information warnings appear in the dot matrix liquid crystal display. This light may illuminate for a variety of reasons and the color of the light that illuminates depends on the type of malfunction detected. Consult your Owner's Manual for further information on the Master Warning Lights and additional details on its operation. The ECO Indicator provides you with a method for monitoring and adjusting your personal driving habits in order to reduce energy consumption and minimize energy usage in your vehicle. There are many variables the vehicle uses to calculate the ECO driving level, including: accelerator and brake pedal operations, driving conditions, air conditioner and heater usage, and the traction motor's idling time. These bars display the current ECO driving level. The number of bars increases as ECO driving levels improve. When you achieve a certain ECO driving level, the segments of a large tree will start to appear in the display. The system evaluates the ECO driving level for individual driving styles, which affects the number of segments illuminated on the tree. Each time the large tree reaches maximum size, another small tree appears next to the big tree. The number of small trees increases as ECO driving is improved. These levels are stored in the Navigation System, enabling you to track ECO driving levels over the lifetime of the vehicle. The Lithium-ion Battery Temperature Gauge displays the battery's temperature. The temperature can change based on factors such as, outside air temperature and driving conditions. The temperature is in the normal range when the indicator falls within this area. If the indicator nears the red zone, reduce vehicle speed to decrease the battery temperature. If the indicator rises above normal range, stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible. Do not store the vehicle in temperatures below −13° for over seven days. If the outside temperature is −13° or less, the Lithium-ion battery may freeze and it cannot be charged or provide power to run the vehicle. The Lithium-ion battery heater does not operate if the available Lithium-ion battery charge is less than approximately 30% and the charger is not connected to the vehicle. To help prevent the Lithium-ion battery from freezing, do not leave the vehicle in an environment if temperatures may go below -4° unless the vehicle is connected to a charger. This Power Meter displays the traction motor power consumption and the regenerative brake power supplied to the Lithium-ion battery. The dots will increase or decrease depending on driving conditions. When the battery is charged with power produced by the regenerative brake system the central dot moves to the left. When the battery discharges and power is supplied to the motor the central dot moves to the right. Please consult your Owner's Manual for more information on this feature. The Driving Range displays the estimated distance your vehicle can be driven before recharging is necessary and is constantly calculated based on driving style and operational conditions, as well as the amount of available battery charge and the actual power consumption average. The driving range will vary every time the vehicle is fully charged, based on the actual average energy consumption from the last time the vehicle was driven. Vehicle range may be reduced when the temperature drops below -4°. The Lithium-ion Battery Available Charge Gauge displays the Lithium-ion battery charge available to run the vehicle. The Low Battery Charge Warning Light and the Master Warning Light will appear, when the remaining battery charge is low. You should recharge the vehicle before the gauge reaches the bottom line. The Lithium-ion Battery Capacity Level Gauge displays the amount of charge the Lithium-ion battery is capable of storing. The vehicle battery, like all lithium-ion batteries, will experience gradual capacity loss with time and use. As this occurs, the indicators on the Lithium-ion battery capacity level gauge will be reduced to reflect the current battery capacity.

They are however more expensive than a lead acid, but the cost may be well worth it. On average a lithium-ion battery costs 30% more than a lead-acid.  Lithium-ion batteries are generally much smaller than lead-acid. For this reason, make certain upon purchase that it will fit your motorcycle. Many sellers of lithium-ion batteries will put the battery in a "stock case" for your brand/model motorcycle. That means that they'll make it the same size as your stock lead-acid battery so it will fit perfectly in the battery compartment of your Harley-Davidson as an example. If you choose to buy the smaller size lithium-ion it may bounce around in your large battery compartment. Many come with shims so you can try to wedge the battery in to keep it from moving around. My recommendation is to get a lithium-ion battery with the correct case size for your application.  When purchasing a lithium-ion, also be aware of the terminal placement such as side or top to make sure it will work with your application. Again, this is why I bought a direct replacement lithium-ion made for my Harley Street Glide that has everything the same as my lead-acid.  Lithium-ion batteries often have more cold cranking amps (CCA) and that means more powerful starts. As an example, the Twin Power Lithium Ion Battery -DLFP30HL-BS-H I bought has 625 CCA, whereas a typical lead-acid for a Harley will have 400-500 CCA.  The first possible drawback to a lithium-ion is that if you let it fall to below 11 volts by accidentally leaving your headlight as an example, you may permanently damage the battery. Whereas, a lead-acid in good shape could be charged and likely recover. The second drawback, not really in my opinion, to a lithium-ion motorcycle battery, is that if you leave your motorcycle out in temperatures below freezing for an extended period of time, you'll have to "wake" the battery to get it cycling. This is easily done by turning your headlight on for a short period or bumping the starter a few times. Once awake, you lithium-ion goes to work fast and gives you those cold cranking amps. I tested my lithium-ion battery by placing it in my freezer for a bit over two hours at 12 degrees Fahrenheit. I tested it on my Harley and it fired right up and the battery never went to sleep. That tells me that you'd need to have your bike in the below-freezing temps for some time before it would go to sleep. Again, easily overcome by just bumping your starter or turning your headlight on to wake it.  An upside is that Lithium-ion batteries don't really need to be on a battery tender all winter like a lead-acid as they only lose about 10% of their charge a year while sitting. Whereas, a lead-acid battery loses 1% per day. Just remove the negative battery terminal on your lithium-ion battery when storing your motorcycle & you're good to go. Then, just charge it up and top it off before riding season. In contrast, you should keep your lead-acid on a battery tender while you park and/or store your motorcycle for any length of time to greatly increase its lifespan. In this episode, we’ll be diving into this data and seeing how it translates to owners. Back in April, I shared data on Tesla battery degradation. Since then, Tesla owners have been measuring and sharing their battery degradation data – and the results have been surprising. Tesla owners who contributed to this data first drained their EV batteries down to 0%, then charged fully them to 100%. This is to get a consistent measurement on how much energy a battery can hold. Despite the data, many people wonder why lithium-ion batteries in phones and laptops can barely hold a charge after a few years, while lithium-ion EV batteries don’t suffer the same fate. Well, according to lithium-ion battery cells studies, after 500-800 charging cycles and 100,000 to 150.000 miles a battery’s charging capacity drops to around 70%. However, most EV owners don’t typical drain their batteries to 0% or 100%. This increases the battery life significantly. Based on study estimates, owners who practice partial charging generally see degradation after 1,200-1,500 charging cycles and 350,000 miles of life. Because study data on EV battery life is limited, the data provided by real owners, as mentioned above, is much more valuable. It is important to note, charging habits are not the only contribution factors to battery life as factors like temperature and usage patterns also play a role. As stated, most owners don’t typically run their batteries to 0%, and by default a Tesla battery stops charging at 80%. This is to reduce battery strain.To even further reduce battery strain, Tesla may limit Fast Charging speeds. All of these factors combined are Tesla’s safeguard to help protect your vehicle, ensure you have a great experience with your luxury EV as well as allow for an expansive lifespan (unlike phone and laptop batteries). In running some regression analysis on the user-provide data, I found that there was some high volatility. This is likely due to the factor that the data is user-reported, and it is not being measured in a controlled environment. When Eindhoven University of Technology Systems and Control Professor, Maarten Steinbuch, looked at this data, he found that "on average the batteries have 92% remaining at 240.000 km. If the linear behavior would continue, then the ‘lifetime’ (still 80% capacity left) can be calculated as follows: 92-80 = 12% times 45,000 km = 540,000 km.” I also looked at another studied from YouTuber and battery aficionado Jehu Garcia. He tested some early Tesla batteries and found that without use, batteries degraded at about .35% per year. Which means, after about 285 years, these batteries will be almost completely dead. Working with the figure that batteries will retain more than 80% of their capacities for up 310,000 miles and considering that the average US drives about 13,5000 miles, on average, a Tesla battery does not need replacing for around 23 years. The point is, by the time your Tesla battery wears out, we’ll be in a totally new world - and likely won’t even be driving ourselves anymore. In fact, Elon Musk recently stated that he thinks in 20 years we won’t even have steering wheels in cars. So, when it comes to the lifespan of your Tesla battery, rest easy. It will likely outlast the rest of your car. Warning From Man Who Designed RFID Microchip

Carl Sanders sat in seventeen New World Order meetings with heads-of-state officials such as Henry Kissinger and Bob Gates of the C.I.A. to discuss plans on how to bring about this one-world system. The government commissioned Carl Sanders to design a microchip for identifying and controlling the peoples of the world—a microchip that could be inserted under the skin with a hypodermic needle (a quick, convenient method that would be gradually accepted by society). Carl Sanders, with a team of engineers behind him, with U.S. grant monies supplied by tax dollars, took on this project and designed a microchip that is powered by a lithium battery, rechargeable through the temperature changes in our skin. Without the knowledge of the Bible (Brother Sanders was not a Christian at the time), these engineers spent one-and-a-half-million dollars doing research on the best and most convenient place to have the microchip inserted. Guess what? These researchers found that the forehead and the back of the hand is not just the most convenient place, but is also the only viable place for rapid, consistent temperature changes in the skin to recharge the lithium battery. The microchip is approximately seven millimetres in length, .75 millimetres in diameter, about the size of a grain of rice. It is capable of storing pages upon pages of information about you. However, there’s a lot that goes into the creation of any single lithium ion cell and even a small error at a given point in that process could lead to big problems during the battery’s life cycle. Greg Less, Michigan Engineering’s Battery User Facility’s Manager discusses not only why and how the lithium ion batteries that we all use so frequently might explode, but how researchers at the University of Michigan are trying to change the way batteries are made for a safer and more efficient future. They contain ammonia which can damage the screen irrevocably. - If you drop your cell phone into a pool or a sink, the first thing you should do after you get it out is turn it off and remove the battery (if it’s possible, of course). - Don’t put your cell phone on the dashboard when driving. Constant moving and bumping can cause a lot of damage. - Read user reviews before you hit the update button. I placed a couple small pieces of lithium in a test tube, then connected the tube to a larger flask of ammonium hydroxide via silicone tubing. Upon heating the flask, gaseous ammonia will be produced which is condensed in the test tube by cooling it with a bath of alcohol and dry ice. The resulting solution is brilliant bronze in color, but at lower lithium concentrations, the solution is deep blue -- a very beautiful reaction.

Your LEAF has a variety of meters, gauges and indicator lights to help you monitor battery status. Monitoring these displays and adjusting your personal driving techniques accordingly helps minimize the energy usage in your vehicle. Behind the steering wheel you’ll see two meters. This upper meter displays the red and yellow master warning lights when warnings are shown in the lower meter. These lights may illuminate for a variety of reasons. The color of the light that illuminates depends on the type of malfunction detected. See your Owner’s Manual for more information. The upper meter is also where you will find the ECO indicator, which calculates driving efficiency using factors such as: ● accelerator and brake pedal operations, ● driving conditions, ● air conditioner and heater usage, and ● the traction motor’s idling time. The bars shown around the large tree icon indicate the current ECO driving level. The number of bars increases when the vehicle is driven efficiently, and decreases when it is not. THESE icons indicate the long-term ECO driving level over a period of time. The longer the vehicle is driven economically, the more segments of the large tree icon are displayed. When all the segments of the large tree are displayed, a new small tree icon is displayed. The amount of small tree icons increases over time with economical driving. This is the lower display. The lithium-ion battery available charge gauge displays the approximate battery charge for running the vehicle. When the remaining battery charge is low, the Low Battery Charge Warning Light and the Master Warning Light will appear. You should recharge the vehicle before this gauge reaches the bottom line. The lithium-ion battery capacity level gauge shows the remaining capacity of the lithium-ion battery to store power. The vehicle battery, like all lithium-ion batteries, will experience gradual capacity loss with time and use. As this occurs, the indicators on the Lithium-ion battery capacity level gauge will be reduced to reflect the current battery capacity. This is the lithium-ion battery temperature gauge. The temperature of the battery can change based on factors such as outside temperature and driving conditions. When the indicator falls within THIS area, the temperature is in the normal range. If the indicator nears the red zone, reduce vehicle speed to decrease the battery temperature. In this case, power to the traction motor is reduced and the power limitation indicator will illuminate. If the indicator continues to rise above normal range, stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible. This reading displays the estimated distance your vehicle can be driven before recharging is necessary. It is constantly calculated based on driving style, operating conditions and the amount of available battery charge. The driving range will vary every time the vehicle is fully charged, based on the actual average energy consumption from the last time the vehicle was driven. Vehicle range may be reduced in temperatures below -4 degrees. The power meter displays the traction motor power consumption and the regenerative brake power supplied to the lithium-ion battery. This white dot moves left or right depending on demand. When it moves to the right, power is provided to the traction motor and the lithium-ion battery discharges. When it moves to the left, power is generated and provided to the lithium-ion battery by the regenerative brake system. To turn on the KT-LCD display, first turn on your battery then press the middle function button for 3 seconds. To scroll through the 3 displays, press the middle function button briefly and it will change from display to display. To control the general project settings hold down the up and down arrow keys for 3 seconds. This will bring you to your first settings. Here you can control maximum speed, wheel size, (very important), mph vs km, and temperature settings. To change the settings use the up and down arrow keys, when your selection appear press the middle function button It will save your settings and allow you to scroll to the next settings. When you are done making your selections hold down the up and down arrow keys for 3 seconds. This will bring you to the Parameter settings menu, where you will see a blinking P1 at the bottom of your screen. P1 controls your motor characteristic parameters. You will want to check with your manufacturer for the correct settings for your motor. Press the middle button to scroll to P2. P2 controls wheel speed pulse signal. Again if you don't know consult your manufacturer. P3 Sets your pedal assist function. The settings are 0 through 5. When set to 0 the throttle is dependent on the PAS Gear Ratio. When set to 5 the throttle will provide the most power. P4 Sets the Throttle Start-Up Setting. This is an important one. When set to 1 the throttle will only activate the motor after the motor has been activated via pedaling. When set to 0 the throttle activate the motor when triggered P 5 is your Power Monitoring Setting. Again this is important. If the setting isn't correct you won't be able to determine how much you have left in your battery. There are settings for 24v, 36v and 48v. If you don't know the correct settings, set this to 0 for real-time voltage mode. When done with these 5 settings press the up and down arrow keys to move to the C Parameter settings. C1 is your Throttle Start-Up Setting. Check your manual for your preferred settings

Use a desktop computer to view them. ] ► Tools you will need to open and close the iMac: • Torx T10 • 2 strong suction cups (for front glass removal) • Philips "+" screw driver (for RAM door) • Anti-static wrist band ► Other items you will need: • Dust blower - Giottos Rocket Blaster Large or Compressed Air • BR2032 button cell battery for use on logic board • Thermal Paste for GPU heatsink • Swabs • Alcohol (I used anhydrous Ethanol) • Microfiber cloth (for cleaning the screen/glass • Vacuum cleaner (for those dust bunnies) • Flashlight (to peer into the dark spaces inside the iMac) • Sticky labels (yes, you should mark the connectors) • An oven set to 200°C/392°F (without which this repair is in vain) • Time & Patience ► 4850 Card Photos (cleaned): TOP: https://flic.kr/p/RjLLCd BTM: https://flic.kr/p/RjLKGf ► I baked the Radeon 4850 video card at 200°C/392°F for 9 minutes. I chose 9 minutes because after reading much about this subject, some people said 8 minutes and others 10, so I took the average, which is 9. It worked for me. Just be sure to use the aluminum foil at the bottom of the board to allow hot air to flow all around the board. If you use Arctic Silver 5 like I did, don't use to much because if the heatsink presses down on your hefty glob and if it spills onto the tiny capacitors on the GPU chip itself, the silver could short the connections. If you are worried, just buy Arctic Silver MX-4 which is not conductive. ► Fan Control Apps to keep your iMac running cooler. I'm using both on different Macs and can therefore recommend either of these: • Macs Fan Control: https://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-... • smcFanControl: https://www.eidac.de ► There are hundreds of comments below. Most of you won't read all of them, but I read and reply to all comments and there is a lot of helpful info in them. Comments are sorted by YouTube in a way that puts popular comments first, but you can change sorting to NEWEST if you want to see the most recent. But basically the type of comments has not changed much from the beginning. In summary, the vast majority of people who try the bake find success, relative few have serious problems, and those who have problems and ask I try to help to the best of my ability. If someone asks a question you know the answer to, it make take me a day or so to see it, so feel free to lovingly give them a hand. By the way, several people have said "you don't need to remove the motherboard." My answer to that is, "yes you do if you want to change the CR2032 battery on the back side of the motherboard." Even if you don't think you want to change the battery, at least remove the old one. Even lithium button cell batteries leak after many years of being installed in electronics. And for those of you who don't care about any of that, simply watch my 2nd bake video (link below) to see how to go about the bake WITHOUT removing the motherboard. ►►► July 11, 2017: The BAD NEWS is, my 1st bake lasted all of 4 months. What inspired me to do the 1st bake was another YouTuber who did the same repair and who said recently his iMac had been running fine for 17 months since the repair as of Feb. 2017. Lithium metal is set ablaze. The resulting lithium oxide is formed and then added to water with phenolphthalein to indicate the formation of hydroxide in solution. Alkali metals react with oxygen to form oxides (or peroxides or superoxides). The resulting metal oxides react with water to form bases unlike nonmetal oxides that form acidic solutions. The lithium ions produce the red flame in the meker burner as the lithium oxide smoke fills the area and also when the lithium oxide is introduced into the flame.

Trying out a new angle utilizing my engine guards. The angle was almost a great success but had one major flaw: heat. Being right beside my engine, the camera would get hot and turn off (regular batteries don't like temperature changes). Next time I'll try using lithium ion batteries as they are supposed to work better in temperature changes. Unfortunately all the footage I did manage to get was short and not of any of the interesting sections we rode on. In this video we are starting to head back the way we came to some of the twisty parts. Again the video cuts out before any of the good roads. Typical.

In this video we are making our way TO the twisties in Chilliwack backroads heading towards the Cultus Lake area. It's interesting to see how much the ZRX wants to fly when you roll on the throttle (keep your eyes on the forks). Hell just putting it in gear from a standstill shakes the whole thing.
