Anyone who has ever dealt with a mental disorder, either personally or cared for someone suffering with one, knows that treatment of these conditions is incredibly difficult. And when you’re dealing with mental health, one of the worst possible outcomes of treatment is when it makes the condition worse, or causes side effects that are nearly equal to the condition they are designed to treat. And that appears to be the case with a medication called Abilify. Mike Papantonio discusses the dangers of this drug. Learn more about Abilify here: https://www.levinlaw.com/abilify-lawsuit-lawyer

Don't forget to leave a like! Note: What I meant to say in the video is LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR, BUT do NOT take his advice to heart. Listen to yourself, your body, and your mind. Tell your doctor what is happening and keep in mind that he gets paid a lot no matter what he says. Also always get a second opinion. The more opinions/advice you have, the easier it will be for you to decide what is right for you. Aripiprazole, sold under the brand name Abilify among others, is an atypical antipsychotic. It is recommended and primarily used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Other uses include as an add-on treatment in major depressive disorder, tic disorders, and irritability associated with autism. According to a Cochrane review, evidence for the oral form in schizophrenia is not sufficient to determine effects on general functioning. Additionally, because many people dropped out of the medication trials before they were completed, the overall strength of the conclusions is low. Side effects include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, a movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia, and high blood sugar in those with diabetes. In the elderly there is an increased risk of death. It is thus not recommended for use in those with psychosis due to dementia. It is pregnancy category C in the United States and category C in Australia, meaning there is possible evidence of harm to the fetus. It is not recommended for women who are breastfeeding. It is unclear whether it is safe or effective in people less than 18 years old. It is a partial dopamine agonist. Aripiprazole was developed by Otsuka in Japan. In the United States, Otsuka America markets it jointly with Bristol-Myers Squibb. From April 2013 to March 2014, sales of Abilify amounted to almost $6.9 billion. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, excess saliva/drooling, blurred vision, weight gain, constipation, headache, and trouble sleeping may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

And when you’re dealing with mental health, one of the worst possible outcomes of treatment is when it makes the condition worse, or causes side effects that are nearly equal to the condition they are designed to treat. And that appears to be the case with a medication called Abilify. Mike Papantonio discusses the dangers of this drug with attorney Chris Paulos. Learn more about Chris Paulos here: https://www.levinlaw.com/attorney-profiles/chris-paulos Statistics show that about 1 out of 5 American citizens suffer from some form of mental illness each year. These illnesses run the gamut from depression to Tourette’s syndrome. And with a market of more than 42 million people a year as their potential clients, Big Pharma hasn’t wasted any time creating countless pills they claim will help solve your mental health problems. There are plenty of medications available that do provide relief for people suffering from mental health problems, but there are also a wide variety of pills that have had their efficacy overstated by drug companies who were just trying to cash in on the latest blockbuster market that has opened up. Abilify is an anti-psychotic medication manufactured and marketed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical and Bristol Meyers Squibb. Its used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, Tourette’s syndrome, autism and depression. It’s intended to help decrease hallucinations, disorganized thinking, mood swings, depressive thoughts and tics. It's not approved to treat symptoms related to dementia, and can increase the risk of death in patients suffering from dementia. There are numerous lawsuits pending involving their anti-psychotic medication Abilify that clearly show the drug can cause impulse issues in adults, such as chaotic gambling, shopping, binge eating and hypersexuality. And with every one of those issues comes an entirely new set of problems for the people taking it. There have been reports of people losing everything by gambling away their homes, cars, and retirement funds due to the effects of Abilify. People are wrecking their home lives because of the side effects of abilify. What is so remarkable of all that is that the science appears to be absolutely solid that abilify is at the heart of the problem. According to the lawsuits that have been filed against Otsuka and Bristol Meyers Squibb, the company was fully aware of how their medication adversely effected a person’s impulse control and they completely failed to warn the public about these dangers. Documents point to the fact that the company had plenty information to show the problems here with the side effects related to abilify. They over-sold the effectiveness of the drug because and kept quiet about the risks because they wanted a piece of the 42 million customer market. And they were wildly successful. In 2014, Abilify was one of the best-selling medications in the United States, bringing in more than $7 billion for Big Pharma. In spite of all the dangers that have been emerging in the public arena with this medication for more than 4 years, juvenile detention centers have been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars each year buying stockpiles of Abilify so they can medicate juvenile delinquents instead of rehabilitating them. And these drugs are only increasing the frequency of the very behaviors that landed these children in trouble in the first place.

Click on the link below for a free video guide to dietary supplements and alternative medicine! http://utahtexans.com/ In this video I'm going to talk about what abilify is used for, as well as share a few alternative medicine that is similar to this drug. The main reasons people use this drug is to treat mood disorders. This could include depression, aggression, irritability and schizophrenia . Without insurance if you went down to a local pharmacy to pick up 30 tablets at 20 mg's of strength the cost would be over $1,000 dollars, it's expensive. The million dollar question is does it work, and is there better options. According to CenterWatch.com 3 studies show that it is superior to a placebo when it comes to helping schizophrenia patients. The bad news is that some people question the drugs effectiveness over the long term cause clinical studies only lasted for 26 weeks. As with all prescription drugs there is negative side effects plus it creates a bunch of free radicals as it breaks down in the body. 1 Idea that is often overlooked when it comes to improving someone's well being is to eliminate gluten from your diet. If someone is gluten sensitive the body's immune system may attack it's own tissues causing inflammation in the nervous system would could lead into mood swings. Most people don't know this but 95% of serotonin (the feel good chemical) is produced in the gut. Your digestive system has more neurons that your spinal cord. So a poorly functioning digestive system could be leading cause of mental problems like mood swings. To improve your digestive system eating more fiber helps as well as something known as prebiotics. Prebiotics are different than probiotics the stuff in yogurt. Prebiotics are 10 times better and are natural unlike the man made probiotics in yogurt. For herbal medicine there is some evidence that gingseng could help. There was a study I found in the University of Maryland Medical Center with 501 people living in Mexico City. Taking this herb improved well-being and satisfaction. Another herb to look into would be lavender. There are tons of studies that show it helps with mood swings. For instance in the International Clinical Psychopharmacology a study showed that lavender was superior to a placebo in 221 patients suffering from anxiety. Well-Being and quality of life also improved. If alternative medicine, and herbal remedies is something your interested in I highly encourage you to check out a free video guide I created on the topic. It provides a lot of tips on what to look for when shopping for these types of products, as well as shares what you want to avoid. It's definitely worth your time and it's completely free. Visit: https://www.thehigginsfirm.com/defective-and-potentially-dangerous-drugs.html Female: An extremely popular drug on the market called Abilify. Now, it’s one of the bestselling drugs on the market. Last year’s sales reached in estimated $6 billion worldwide. It treat a number of psychological problems, including depression, bipolar disorder, and even autism. But, now, there are lawsuits coming out about the dangerous side effects that come with this drug. We got Atty. Jim Higgins from The Higgins Firm joining us to tell us more about the drug and the lawsuits. So, what are these side effects, Jim? Jim Higgins: This one is different, right? Female: OK. Jim Higgins: So, a lot of times when we deal with medical products in our office, it may be, you know, a hip that fails too early or IVC filters we’ve talked about where they call it blood clots. Female: Right. Jim Higgins: This is a psychological component and it - and the claims are that Abilify can cause compulsive behavior. In particular, compulsive gambling, right? Female: Yes, I mean - well, hold on a second, because we were talking about this and I said, “This kind of sounds like maybe somebody went and lost all of their money and now they’re blaming it on the drug. Jim Higgins: Right. Female: But, you said there’s a reason for this like... Jim Higgins: Well, you know, it’s a reason that medical professionals and scientists explained as far as how it works on the brain, the components. But, I will tell you, you know, our office kind of have that same skepticism and still we started looking at these cases. And, I think the case, the original one started was out of Philadelphia. And, what happened is this one person filed a lawsuit, I think, everybody probably rolled their eyes on it, and then more and more people caught - started coming forth. And, again, you know, a family would say, “Well, my husband,” or, “Wife just gone crazy, they need to control themselves.” But, really, the cases that we’re looking at, it’s somebody who never had a problem like this before. They started taking this drug and they truly cannot control themselves and they lose their house, their spouses, their car. I mean, it’s family destroyer and they can’t understand why they can’t control this behavior. Female: And, it’s happening multiple times now. We’re seeing this in different people. It’s not just in isolated case like you said, it’s in multiple places. Jim Higgins: That’s right and that’s when you started saying, “Hey, maybe there’s something more to this.” Female: OK. Oh, my God. It’s so straight. I mean, of all the side effects, you know, you hear the long list at the end... Jim Higgins: Right. Female: ...that one is not mentioned. Jim Higgins: Not mentioned, so it will be interesting. Female: Yes. Jim Higgins: This will start - there’s a few hundred cases going out now. We’re reviewing some cases. You know, that’s the thing that, you know, we don’t file lawsuits just to file them. Female: Right. Jim Higgins: So, I want to make sure that we meet with people. You know, we’re going to look at how long they’ve taken this, what was their behavior like before, what’s their behavior like after, and I always talk to family members and say... Female: Right. Jim Higgins: ...“You tell me, is this different?” You know, what - this is something that you just can’t explain and then through their - when we’re able to show much they’ve lost and then we’ll try to file a lawsuit and get some of that back. Female: Very interesting. Jim Higgins at The Higgins Firm. Everybody, it’s 1800-705-2121. You can also go to higginsfirm.com and thank you to all of the people who are working with you today, because they’re serving at the mission. Jim Higgins: Yes, (skipping their line)[00:02:52], serving at the mission. Female: That was so cool. Jim Higgins: I thought that was very nice. I mean, I’m trying to run out here and help them clean up. Female: You work with good people... Aripiprazole is used to treat certain mental/mood disorders (such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, Tourette's disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder). It may also be used in combination with other medication to treat depression. Aripiprazole is known as an antipsychotic drug (atypical type). It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals in the brain (neurotransmitters). This medication can decrease hallucinations and improve your concentration. It helps you to think more clearly and positively about yourself, feel less nervous, and take a more active part in everyday life. Aripiprazole can treat severe mood swings and decrease how often mood swings occur.

For many of us, one of the most troubling bipolar medication side-effects is weight gain. Unfortunately, weight gain from bipolar medications is common and frustrating to those of us who use them to maintain our mental health. I have bipolar 2 and after I started taking medications, I immediately noticed a change in my body. It was not just a few pounds, but up to 30 pounds in one month. Imagine how that made me feel. It got to the point where I told my psychiatrist that if I continued gaining weight, I was going to quit taking my bipolar 2 medications. I know you might think that’s drastic but, in fact, many people stop taking their bipolar medications due to weight gain and other side-effects. It may not be the right thing to do, however, they just can’t take the weight gain or other side-effects anymore. Self-awareness and honesty is essential when you live with bipolar disorder; that includes being honest with your doctor. My psychiatrist worked on finding a better routine of bipolar medications and I was able to lose some of that weight and get closer to my normal size. It is not that I refuse to deal with any bipolar medication side effects, but gaining that amount of weight made me feel out of control, insecure and depressed. I still have to make medication adjustments which can cause a little weight gain, but I always get back in shape eventually. I’ll be talking more about that in an upcoming video. What is your experience with the side effects of bipolar medication? Have you experienced weight gain? Have you been able to do something about the weight gain? Visit: https://www.thehigginsfirm.com/ Meryll Rose: I’m Meryll Rose. We always hear about potential side effects when taking medications. One of the bestselling drugs in the world is now involved in lawsuits that claim the drug can cause gambling addictions and other compulsive behaviors. Attorney Jim Higgins, with The Higgins Firm is here now to tell us more. Welcome. Jim Higgins: Thank you. Meryll Rose: All right, so this is kind of disturbing, isn’t it? Jim Higgins: It is, you know, and it’s one of those cases when our office first started investigating. We are - you’re are a little suspicious, because every other drug case we have or medical recall case, there's a physical component to it, it causes something. But, this is emotional component and what is it, is it’s Abilify. It's one of the most prescribed drugs in the world. I think that they did $1.6 billion in sales. And, it started with a case out of Philadelphia where a man said that he was on this drug and that he basically gambled his life away. He became addicted to gambling, lost his family, lost his wife, all of his assets. And, when you look at that sole case, you’re going to say, “Well, you need to stay to have the self-control.” But, more and more of these cases started popping up and there’s been about a hundred or so lawsuits filed now and we’re investigating a couple of them, and it’s where this people are prescribed Abilify. They’ve never had compulsive behavior like this and after they’re on the drug, they can’t control it. Meryll Rose: How do you see this case is progressing? Jim Higgins: Well, anytime where it becomes hundreds of cases filed and that’s probably where this is heading. You’re going to start hearing about it more and more. You’re going to hear new stories on similar cases. They’re usually consolidated into one case called a multidistrict case and the judge will kind of sort those out and then not only they’re going to settling these cases or they’re going to start heading to trial. Meryll Rose: All right, if you need more information, you can call the Higgins Firm. Thank you so much for being with us today. Does anyone remember Thorazine? It was an antipsychotic given to mentally ill people, often in institutions, that was so sedating, it gave rise to the term "Thorazine shuffle." Ads for Thorazine in medical journals, before drugs were advertised directly to patients, showed Aunt Hattie in a hospital gown, zoned out but causing no trouble to herself or anyone else. No wonder Thorazine and related drugs Haldol, Mellaril and Stelazine were called chemical straitjackets. But Thorazine and similar drugs became close to obsolete in 1993 when a second generation of antipsychotics which included Risperdal, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Geodon and Abilify came online. I share my experiences throughout my process of finding the right medication for me. I'll talk about my initial personal stigma against medication, and how the view has changed over time. From the intense side effects of Abilify, rash scares from Lamictal, to weight gain from Depakote. I want to remind everyone that their experiences with these same medications could be completely different. I hope my story inspires people to have more open conversations with their psychiatrists on what actually works. I have heard countless times of people with mental heath issues never speaking up that their treatment isn't work. My medication for bipolar disorder is just part of my daily routine now. I don't really think much of it anymore. I don't like taking meds, but hey, I'm not that crazy about shoving contacts in my eyes every morning either. But I am willing to do these daily chores because they allow me to live a more productive and happy life. Please visit www.blissify.org for more video and written content about mental health. Our philosophy is "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind." The body works as one synchronized unit. We hope to inspire people to make healthy choices to benefit both their body and mind.

Looking for an Abilify medication alternative? https://ktcpartnership.com/ ABILIFY is an atypical antipsychotic indicated for use as an add-on treatment to an antidepressant for adults with Major Depressive Disorder who have had an inadequate response to antidepressant therapy. In the last decade, KETAMINE has also been used to treat patients with treatment resistant depression with a greater than 70% success rate within hours to days (not weeks to months like most oral medications/pills). Most common side effects from ABILIFY include: • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, dizziness, an inner sense of restlessness or need to move (akathisia), anxiety, insomnia, and restlessness, sleepiness, extrapyramidal disorder (for example, uncontrolled movement disorders or muscle disturbances such as restlessness, tremors and muscle stiffness), fatigue, increased appetite, stuffy nose, and weight gain. Serious side effects from ABILIFY may include: • Antidepressants (including ABILIFY) may increase suicidal thoughts or behaviors in some children, teenagers, and young adults, especially within the first few months of treatment or when the dose is changed. • An increased risk of stroke and ministroke • Tardive dyskinesia, uncontrollable movements of face, tongue, or other parts of body. Tardive Dyskinesia may not go away, even if you stop taking ABILIFY. Tardive Dyskinesia may also start after you stop taking ABILIFY. • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), a rare and serious condition that can lead to death. • Seizures (convulsions) have been reported with ABILIFY. • Increases in blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). Extremely high blood sugar can lead to coma or death. • Changes in cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood • Weight gain • Difficulty swallowing which may lead to aspiration or choking • Orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure) • Decreases in white blood cells (WBC = infection fighting cells) • ABILIFY and medicines like it can affect your judgment, thinking, or motor skills. You should not drive or operate hazardous machinery until you know how ABILIFY affects you. • Medicines like ABILIFY can impact your body’s ability to reduce body temperature; you should avoid overheating and dehydration. Far and away the most common experience with KETAMINE infusions (at KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS) is to have NO SIDE EFFECTS in between treatments. ALL OF THE ABOVE INFORMATION REGARDING ABILIFY IS TAKEN VERBATIM FROM www.Abilify.com KETAMINE is a medicine developed more than 50 years ago for anesthesia during surgery, and has been used for that purpose since that time in children, adults, and animals. More recently, KETAMINE has been found to be a valuable and highly effective treatment for major depression, bipolar depression, postpartum depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and certain pain disorders such as fibromyalgia. KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS offers infusions as a simple outpatient procedure. Following a consultation to determine the appropriateness and safety of this treatment, patients are guided each step of the way with the help of a clinical coordinator to ensure a smooth, supportive process. Because the effects of a single infusion are short-lived, patients who show response (70%) will receive a series of infusions over a 2-3 week period. This is an off-label use of KETAMINE, meaning that the FDA has not approved this medication for this use. However, its safety and effectiveness have been demonstrated in multiple research studies, and off-label prescribing is a common and necessary practice in all fields of medicine. KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS was founded in 2011 by Dr. Steven P. Levine. Though he is a psychiatrist who places great emphasis on the importance of psychotherapy, medication is often a necessary component of treatment, and he was dissatisfied with the relatively ineffective available options with burdensome side effects. Dr. Levine pioneered a protocol for the clinical use of KETAMINE infusions, has directly supervised many thousands of infusions, and has helped establish similar programs across the country and around the world. Dr. Levine has partnered with Dr. Anand Dugar, a board-certified anesthesiologist, combining the expertise of both psychiatry and anesthesia to provide unrivaled, world-class care for the treatment of major depression, bipolar depression, postpartum depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fibromyalgia, and pain syndromes. Today, we are proud to have a growing network of KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS around the country bringing this important treatment closer to home for millions more.
