Click Here to Subscribe: http://Bit.ly/ThomasVid Website: http://ThomasDeLauer.com Get the Clothes I Wear at 25% Off - Use Code: TDSUMMER25 at http://www.Hylete.com Why Coffee AFTER a Workout helps Fat Loss and Performance - Thomas DeLauer Study - International Journal of Sports Medicine The purpose of this study was to look at the sparing effects of caffeine on the utilization of muscle glycogen during 30 min of leg ergometer cycling (70% V̇O 2 max) A caffeine solution (250 ml; 5 ml/kg body weight) ingested 1 hour prior to exercise (CAF trial) decreased the use of muscle glycogen by 42% in 7 subjects when compared to a decaffeinated control trial (CON) There was a modest increase in serum FFA and muscle triglyceride use was 150% greater in the CAF as compared to the CON trial Respiratory exchange during exercise also reflected a shift in carbon source from carbohydrate to lipid Since known in vitro effects of caffeine include an increased use of muscle lipid and an inhibitory influence on phosphorylase a, it is suggested that the ergogenic effects of caffeine on endurance performance are, in part, the result of direct actions in muscle rather than solely to enhanced mobilization, uptake, and oxidation of blood-borne FFA ----------- However, caffeine (combined with carbohydrates) following exercise can help refill muscle glycogen faster than carbs alone Study - Journal of Applied Physiology The study was conducted on 7 well-trained endurance cyclists who participated in four sessions The participants first rode a cycle ergometer until exhaustion, and then consumed a low-carbohydrate dinner before going home - the exercise bout was designed to reduce the athletes' muscle glycogen stores prior to the experimental trial the next day The athletes did not eat again until they returned to the lab the next day for the second session when they again cycled until exhaustion They then ingested a drink that contained carbs alone or carbs plus caffeine and rested in the laboratory for four hours During this post-exercise rest time, the researchers took several muscle biopsies and multiple blood samples to measure the amount of glycogen being replenished in the muscle, along with the concentrations of glucose-regulating metabolites and hormones in the blood, including glucose and insulin The entire two-session process was repeated 7-10 days later - the only difference was that this time, the athletes drank the beverage that they had not consumed in the previous trial (if they drank the carbohydrate alone in the first trial, they drank the carbohydrate plus caffeine in the second trial, and vice versa) Results Glucose and insulin levels higher with caffeine ingestion with researchers finding: - one hour after exercise, muscle glycogen levels had replenished to the same extent whether or not the athlete had the drink containing carbohydrate and caffeine or carbohydrate only - throughout the four-hour recovery period, the caffeinated drink resulted in higher levels of blood glucose and plasma insulin - four hours after exercise, the drink containing caffeine resulted in 66% higher glycogen levels compared to the carbohydrate-only drink Why This Is One reason is that caffeine may aid in facilitating glucose uptake from the blood into the muscles as caffeine intake can acutely lower insulin sensitivity and increase glucose concentrations In addition, caffeine seems to increase the activity of several signaling enzymes, including the calcium-dependent protein kinase and protein kinase B (also called Akt), both which, when activated, trigger an uptake in muscle glucose during and after exercise Furthermore, caffeine activates AMPK, and activation of AMPK has also been deemed necessary for contraction-stimulated glucose transport into skeletal muscle References 1) Effects of Caffeine Ingestion on Utilization of Muscle Glycogen and Lipid During Leg Ergometer Cycling | Request PDF. Body changes after I quit coffee

I quit coffee 4 months ago to cure my goitre, which worked, but I also experienced several other good changes aswell. I've never been addicted to coffee but I love the taste and the smell of it. For some months I was having half a cup of coffee with my breakfast and I loved it. However, I realised that it was important to quit coffee to completely normalise my thyroid and cure my goitre. As expected, my thyroid went down in size and although it's not completely back to normal, there was a great improvement. For a long time before I quit coffee I had some acne along the right side of my jaw line and the right cheek which I didn't understand. No matter what I did, I couldn't get rid of it. However, since removing coffee from my diet, that cheek cleared up completely. Lastly, I have lost some fat around my back and waist which some of you have noticed and asked me about lately. But, first and foremost - caffeine is NOT bad. The metabolic benefits from caffeine, on top of how it makes me feel, is fantastic, but there is one simple rule I follow: Don't consume caffeine after 12pm. I cut it off afternoon so I can sleep. Plan and simple. Let me get into cold brew now for you: 0:55 - Cold brew coffee is made without hear and is left to brew for 12-24 hours. You see, with regular coffee that is made using heat, the oils in the coffee beans get extracted when heated. Problem is, heating coffee may be easier and quicker, but it releases acidic oils that kill the flavor of the coffee. 1:48 - Cold brew has 67% less acid than regular hot coffee. It's also the acidity in that hot coffee that messes with your teeth. 2:10 - Caffeine & Fat Loss: Caffeine mobilizes free fatty acids - necessary for lipolysis (utilizing fats as fuel). Caffeine has been observed in countless studies to take the free fatty acids out from the cell and puts it into the blood stream to be burned. That's why a little bit of caffeine pre-workout can be amazing. 2:43 - Cold Brew V.S. Regular Coffee : Cold brew coffee has 30% more caffeine content. Also, less acidity is better on your stomach. So, say you're in a fast and training in the morning - you won't be having your stomach all torn up and hurting and dealing with those coffee burps with cold brew versus standard hot coffee. One last benefit of cold brew over hot coffee is that when coffee is heated up, it loses some of its antioxidants. 4:02 - Boost your cold brew coffee with L-Carnitine. The caffeine from the coffee mobilizes the fat, while l-carnitine allows the fatty acids to be used by the cell - a 2-step process for efficient and effective fat-burning. If you didn't pick up on it - cold brew coffee is another drink you can add to the list of things to drink while fasting. The drink is still very sweet, and I'm looking forward to drinking it in the morning. I've found that, compared to the caffeine withdrawal program that I did in the spring, this sugar withdrawal program has been much easier. I've had cravings for sugar, but nowhere near the cravings I had for caffeine. Yesterday went OK with no real problems. One thing that is coming up is that I'm sometimes eating pasta. One of the concerns is that many refined carbohydrates - such as pasta - have a high glycemic index, which means that the carbohydrate is converted rapidly into glucose. So these carbohydrates can convert into glucose even faster than table sugar or high fructose corn syrup. So in this program I should probably be cutting out these carbohydrates as well, but the way I'm going to do it is to generally minimize these breads and pastas, but not cut them out entirely, and try to eat the whole grain varieties. As I mentioned a few days ago, there are at least two theories on the dangers of sugar. One is that they tend to spike your blood sugar which is unhealthy over time in terms of obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The other, newer theory is that the main problem is fructose. Sucrose and high fructose corn syrup contained fructose which is considered by some to be toxic. In this program I'm going to give this second theory the benefit of the doubt and assume that the main danger is in sugar (fructose) and not so much the blood sugar spikes caused by high glycemic breads and pastas. The bottom line is that over the next thirty days I'm going to be cutting out sugar and not worrying so much about breads and pastas. I'm still on the program and everything seems to be going well.

Seriously, I really do like caffeine. I always tout the benefits of it. But what I want to do in this video, is I want to give you four different alternatives to caffeine. I'm not talking about like fuddy-duddy kind of herbal ways to get more energy. I'm talking about ways that you can truly life-hack your way into getting more energy, utilizing various compounds that you can find on Amazon or honestly, very easy to find places in general. So, let's start with some of the basics of physiology when it comes down to creating energy. In doing so, I want to explain alpha lipoic acid and carnitine. All right, so alpha lipoic acid and carnitine, you've probably heard of carnitine before, because it's marketed as a fat loss supplement quite heavily. Here's the thing. Carnitine is cool, but it's really when it's combined with alpha lipoic acid that you can get some actual energy that could replace caffeine. You see, carnitine allows free fatty acids to come from its storage form into the actual mitochondria to be used for energy. So carnitine is responsible for taking fatty acids from the cytosol portion of a call, into the membrane, into the mitochondria, which is the actual furnace where you create the energy. Without carnitine, that doesn't really happen. But that's not the fun part. You see, when it's combined with something known as alpha lipoic acid, you get heightened energy, because now you're actually taking the food or the nutrients in the cell, and you're giving it the ability to regenerate. So what I mean by that is alpha lipoic acid's job is to add an acetyl group to ultimately create Acetyl-Coenzyme A. Now I'm starting to get complex here, and I promise, I'm going to keep this video very high-level so you don't have to deal with my biology. But if you remember from sophomore, maybe junior year biology, we learn a lot about Acetyl-Coenzyme A. Acetyl-Coenzyme A is ultimately the building block of energy. So without the acetyl group, you just have coenzyme A. Coenzyme A needs an acetyl group. Alpha lipoic acid continually provides it. So what happens is carnitine goes from the cytosol into the mitochondria, brings the food in, creates energy, creates ATP, really what gives you that spark, that energy. Then it's the job of alpha lipoic acid to create the acetyl group, so they can reattach and go through that process again. Without that, you don't make more energy. So when you add both of those to the mix, you get a very powerful form of energy that could truly rival caffeine when it comes down to mainly mental energy, because of the high amount of mitochondria that we have in our brain. Now this one was complex, but let me take you down the path of another one that's a little less complex, but very, very, very fascinating. I'm talking about tyrosine, and particularly its effect on those that are sleep-deprived. Now, those of you that know me know that I have a little baby boy. Now he's my life, he's my pride and joy. But he also makes it so I don't sleep a whole lot and I've got a job to do. I've got to be on camera, I've got to run a business, I've got to have my brain being sharp. This means that I had to find a way outside of just loading up on caffeine to be able to get more energy. Tyrosine has even been shown in studies to increase the amount that someone is alert or awake when they're sleep-deprived by three hours or more. So that means if you're sleep-deprived and you take tyrosine, you can put yourself in a situation where you have three more hours of alertness before you start to crash. I'll take three hours, honestly. So what happens when you take caffeine is your brain overproduces dopamine. That's why as soon as you have some coffee come in, you feel good. You feel alive, you feel like you can take on the world. You start having happy conversations, because everything feels good. You've got caffeine. But the problem is, you're going to run out of dopamine eventually. That's what happens with caffeine withdrawals. You run out of dopamine, and then you don't feel good, so then you need more caffeine to create more dopamine and expedite that whole process.

Caffeine is one of the most widely used drugs on earth. It’s safe and many people live their lives drinking coffee on a daily basis with no problems. However, I argue that too much is not optimal. Caffeine causes dependency and I think that being dependent on any sort of stimulant can often be a bad idea, especially considering the fact that caffeine can cause fatigue and excessive stress. In this video, I briefly break down how caffeine affects your brain, what the true benefits are and I also go over some of my own anecdotal experience of quitting it. You don’t need to quit coffee to be healthy (and don’t believe anyone who says that), but I do think there’s some value in temporarily going off caffeine to see if you notice a difference. They're definitely getting less sweet, to the point where they actually taste pretty good. Before they were almost too sweet. I've been busier than I was during the caffeine withdrawal program so I haven't done as many book reports. Also there hasn't been as much to report from a physical withdrawal point of view. I've just been drinking the drinks during the day and avoiding sugar. Sometimes I haven't even finished the drinks and end up throwing them out at the end of the day. The main thing I wanted to report today is that I am definitely losing weight on this program. This morning I weighed 191.5, so that is a loss of 6 pounds, or two pounds a week, since I started the program three weeks ago. My normal range is 195-205, so I am definitely, without a doubt, losing weight on this program. My current thinking is that this is the easiest weight loss program there is! It's not very complicated: just cut out sugar and it seems to be an easy way to lose weight, at least it has been for me so far. In terms of cravings: there was a BBQ in the building last night with brownies and other sweets - I had a little bit of a craving but not too bad. The cravings have been easy to manage. Also, I haven't been hungry at all and don't feel I've denied myself anything in terms of food (other than sugar). I'm thinking that sugar must mess up our hunger signals somehow. I've cut down slightly on breads, pastas, and other carbs but not really too much. So I'm losing weight, my clothes are looser, and all that is encouraging.
