Alyaa Gad - Liver Patient Diet In order to know the proper diet for patients with liver disease, we should understand the functions of our liver. The liver is situated in the right upper side of the abdomen and it is responsible for storage of certain products and the production of others. The liver stores carbohydrates and vitamins, breaks down fat and produces protein. Proteins are the building blocks of our body. Therefore with liver disease all these functions are compromised and we should always be aware not to add more burden on the liver. With liver disease alcoholic beverages should be avoided. Secondly, proteins are not processed normally, and their excess might cause harm to your body. That’s why we should lower the amount of proteins consumed. The daily protein intake should be 1g for every 1kg of your body weight, or half a gram fro each 1 lb. of your body weight. For example, if your body weight is 60kg your daily protein should be 60g. And if it’s 120 lbs., your daily protein intake should be 30 grams. Concerning fats: a diseased liver will not be able to break down fats. That’s why we should limit our fat intake. And because a diseased liver cannot store vitamins and iron, you should increase their intake in your diet. Foods that are harmful to your liver should be totally avoided. Such as salted fish and junk food in general. Salt intake should be lowered and big meals should be avoided. Instead, you should eat several small meals throughout the day. Your daily diet should be rich in carbohydrates, because a diseased liver cannot store carbohydrates as it normally would. To conclude, patients with liver disease should eat more fruits, vegetables and carbohydrates, such as rice, pasta and brown bread. Eat less red meat, eggs and cheese – the daily intake is 1g/1kg body weight, remember that. Eat dried fruits, as it is a good source of energy, drink adequate amounts of water, except if you have ascites. Ascites means fluid accumulating in the abdomen, which occurs in patients with liver failure. And in this case you must consult your doctor about the recommended amount of water intake. Finally, do not forget to limit your salt intake and foods that add to your livers burden. Besides, take your vitamin supplements, as recommended by your doctor. 12 Ways Your Body Tries To Tell You That Your Liver Is Being Damaged The liver is the largest solid organ in your body. It is located in the right upper quadrant of your abdomen and partly protected by the ribs. You need your liver for many important bodily functions and cannot live without your liver. For this reason, you should know the early signs of liver damage and take care of your liver as much as you possibly can. There are more than a hundred different kinds of diseases of the liver. Each has its own set of symptoms. Some of these diseases include alcoholic liver disease, hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and cirrhosis of the liver. The early signs of liver disease tend to be easily overlooked and are non-specific, related to any number of different conditions. Here are some common early signs. 1. Upset Stomach You are likely to get nausea and vomiting. They can mimic other diseases, such as migraines, food poisoning, vertigo, motion sickness, early pregnancy, depression and vomiting. It can mimic kidney problems as well. Those who suffer from early liver damage often feel persistently nauseous, because the liver has a decreased ability to rid the body of toxins. The nausea can also be due to ongoing metabolism and changes in digestion. If you have these symptoms for several days and don’t know why, seek the attention of your doctor. 2. Fatigue and Overall Weakness One of the early and obvious signs of liver damage is constantly feeling tired and weak. When the liver is not in great condition, the body must work harder and you will need more rest. This is due to an increase in toxins in the bloodstream that can’t be cleared out because the liver can’t get rid of the toxins properly. If the symptoms persist, especially with other early signs of liver damage, seek medical advice as soon as you can. 3. Lack of Appetite This happens due to a lack of production of bile that helps digest fat in the diet. When food isn’t properly digested, it can lead to a lack of appetite and a severe loss of weight. See your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms for a long period of time. 4. Digestion Problems The liver is important in digestion because it makes bile that helps the nutrients be better processed and absorbed by the small intestines. If the liver is failing, you can develop an increase in indigestion and diarrhea. If the bile is not produced properly, you can also experience irritable bowel syndrome, fatty food intolerance, alcohol intolerance, abdominal bloating, constipation and gallstones. If this becomes severe, you need to seek the medical attention of a doctor. 5. Alterations in the Color of Urine If you think you are drinking enough but still have a dark color of your urine, this may be one of the early signs of liver damage. The urine may look brown, amber, or orange in color because of elevated levels of bilirubin in the bloodstream. The bilirubin is elevated because the liver cannot get rid of the bilirubin and it is excreted through the kidneys. Dark urine may also be due to dehydration, side effects of taking antibiotics, taking B vitamin supplements, urinary tract infections, enzyme deficiencies or kidney abnormalities. The doctor can help sort out the cause of dark urine. 6. Changes in Stool Coloration Because the bile is not made enough by a malfunctioning liver, the color of the stool changes. Instead of being brown, it can become pale yellow, clay colored, or gray in appearance. What is a Nutrition Facts Label? The Nutrition Facts Label helps you determine the amount of calories and nutrients in one serving of food. Nutrients include fats, carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, and minerals. This information helps you know whether you’re eating a healthy, balanced diet. The label, which is included on every packaged food product, lists the amount of: Fat Total fat Saturated fat Trans fat Cholesterol Sodium Total carbohydrate Dietary fiber Sugars Protein Vitamins and minerals What is a serving size? Serving size is the first piece of information listed on the label. A serving size is the amount of food that is typically eaten in one serving. It is listed as a general household measurement, such as pieces, cups or ounces (for example, 7 potato chips or 1/2 cup of cereal). Serving size is an important part of a healthy diet. Eating very large servings (or portions) can contribute to weight gain because as you eat larger portions, you eat more calories. It’s important to compare the serving size listed on the container to the amount of that food that you normally eat. For example, the label may list a serving size as 7 potato chips or 1 ounce of cake. If you usually eat twice that amount, you are also eating twice the amount of calories and nutrients. What is the Percent Daily Value? A healthy person should consume a certain amount of fats, carbohydrates (especially fiber), protein, and vitamins and minerals each day. Certain ingredients, such as saturated fats and trans fats, are considered unhealthy and should only be eaten in very small amounts. The nutrition label provides a list of percentages (called the Percent Daily Value) that compares how much of a certain nutrient one serving of food contains to how much of that nutrient you should consume daily. One serving of food with 5% or less of the daily value is considered low. One serving of a food with 20% or more of the daily value is considered high. The Percent Daily Value is based on a daily diet of 2,000 calories. You will need to adjust the percentages if you eat more or less than 2,000 calories per day. For more information on calorie allowances, read our handout on determining calorie needs. What ingredients should I limit in my diet? Saturated fat. Saturated fat can increase your risk of heart disease and high cholesterol. The average adult should consume no more than 20 grams of saturated fat per day. Trans fat. Trans fat also increases your risk of heart disease. Ideally, you should get 0 grams of trans fat per day. When you read a nutrition label remember that companies are allowed to list the amount of trans fat as “0 grams” if it contains less than .5 grams of trans fat per serving. This means that your food can contain some trans fat even if the nutrition label says “0 grams” per serving! Always check the ingredient list for trans fat, which may be listed as “hydrogenated vegetable oil” or “partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.” Trans fat is usually found in commercially prepared baked goods, fried foods, snack foods and margarine. Cholesterol. You should eat less than 300 milligrams of cholesterol per day (and less than 200 milligrams per day if you have heart disease). For more information see Cholesterol. What ingredients should I get more of in my diet? Fiber. Fiber helps your body digest the food you eat, and it can help lower your risk of diabetes and heart disease. A food is considered high in fiber if it contains 5 grams of fiber or more per serving. Men 50 years of age and younger should get at least 38 grams of fiber per day, while women 50 years of age and younger should consume at least 25 grams of fiber per day. Fiber is found in foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Look for the words “whole grain” on the package and ingredient list. Vitamins and Minerals. The nutrition label lists vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron. Eruption is considered late or delayed if it happens 6 months beyond the average age limit of eruption for the primary teeth and 1 year for the permanent teeth, it can be because of certain situations like associated late dental maturation which happens because of some certain systemic and hereditary conditions wherein the tooth is delayed in maturation. The systemic condition which causes the late dental maturation, it can be either hereditary or family trait. It can also be seen in premature or low birth weight children. Nutritional deficiencies like Vitamin resistant rickets also causes late dental eruption in children, genetic abnormalities like amelogenesis imperfecta, dentinal dysplasia, and certain nutritional deficiencies like Vitamin resistant rickets also causes delayed eruption. We also have some syndromes like Down’s syndrome and endocrinal abnormalities like hypopituitarism, which also causes delay in eruption in children. The second condition could be local factors where the dental root formation is normal for the child’s age but physical factors holds back the tooth and prevents it from erupting. What happens here is the tooth gets blocked and cannot come out; it can be either partially or completely embedded inside the jaw bones. The order of occurrence of this impaction is this wisdom tooth very common, then upper canines, premolars, lower canines, lower incisors and molars,, it is very important to establish differential diagnosis to rule out the congenital absence of the tooth bud, the most common local factors which cause delay in dental movements are abnormal eruption path of some permanent teeth, lack of generalized spacing in the jaws and the premature loss of the primary teeth. So these problems make it mandatory for the regular supervision and the follow up of the child to manage the eruption pattern of the teeth and thereby minimizing their consequences on the growing dentofacial complex. By doing this by a single x-ray we can check the formation of the teeth, their sizes, their pathway and the available space. ADRENAL: -Add more protein, add more sleep, keep your potassium higher, more vitamin C food and more cholesterol food (egg yolk). OVARY: -Make sure you do organic to avoid herbacides, non-GMO food, avoid excess estrogen and soy. More cholesterol foods are also recommended because ovary hormones are make from cholesterol. Cruciferous foods and iodine from sea kelp is also recommended. Also try to keep your proteins at 6 ounces. Let’s talk about the adrenal body type first and yes you might be a combination of two, three or four of these but I am not going to get into that in this video. We are just going to talk about what you are going to do if you are an adrenal type. You are going to do ketogenic diet and also intermittent fasting but you are going to go higher with the protein and instead of 3oz. you would do 6 because you are in a breakdown mode of protein you are going to need a little bit more. You also need a little bit more of sleep as stress reduction, you want to do things to bring stress down, you want to go long walks, you give yourself more recovery time, and you probably want to take naps. But try to get a little bit more sleep on that. I always like to use the acupressure tool on my body to get me to wind down a little faster, you can do that as well. Potassium is important for adrenal that means a lot of greens, the electrolyte powder would be good. The potassium helps the adrenal calm down, it is a physiological relaxer mineral for the fight or flight nervous system. You actually need more cholesterol with the adrenal body type because all of the hormones that are produced by the adrenals are made from cholesterol. You don’t want to go low fat at all. Meaning, I was thinking about training the Press 5 to 6 days a week, while continuing my 3x5 as normal for all of my other lifts. I do an upper lower split working out four days a week, alternating hypertrophy days of 8-10 reps with strength days of 4-6 reps for barbell lifts. I focus on training and I don’t mess around doing random stuff, every exercises has a purpose and reason. Besides DC training I have never done an organized routine like 5/3/1, starting strength or any novice program and it shows since my lifts are 275 bench 355 low bar squat 455 conventional dead and 135x6 standing ohp after 5 years. Should I stop what I’m doing and hop on a basic program? Are novice lifters defined by the number of years spent training or by the numbers they hit? Guess it’s a wake up call but I’m getting discouraged trying to figure things out and I feel Like I’m passed the point of making progress on a novice program. Any advice or insight would be really appreciated, thanks!

Vitamin D has become one of the most controversial nutrition issues of the day. While the vitamin's role in preventing bone diseases such as osteoporosis is well documented, recent studies suggest that increased intake of vitamin D may also reduce the risk of various cancers, diabetes, and heart disease. However, not only are these studies being called into question for their failure to show a direct cause and effect, but there is also evidence that excessive intake of vitamin D can be toxic. This session of Public Health Grand Rounds reviewed the latest evidence of vitamin D's effectiveness and safety and discussed challenges in how to best measure and define vitamin D status. I’m also going to take a look back at a former “most wanted” celebrity body (that of Taylor Lautner) to see what went wrong and prevented his gains from being permanent. First and foremost, it is worth noting that neither Zac Efron or Taylor Lautner are heavyweights. Both stand just 5 foot 10 inches tall and weigh no more than 170 pounds. To make his transformation for Baywatch, Efron gained just 10 pounds of lean muscle. The thing is, when you minimize your body fat levels and maximize the amount of muscle your body can naturally carry…you look much bigger than you are. Both of these guys have mastered this. That said, you can’t expect to look better without being willing to put in some hard work along the way. Zac did just this by adopting more heavy weight training into his workout routine. He stated that he never had lifted very heavy or explosive before preparing for this film. A lot of people actually find themselves in a similar position either because they are uncomfortable lifting heavy or just don’t have the base strength to be able to do it. By increasing his strength levels on the basic compound lifts, Efron was able to start adding to his muscle density and thickness. Next he followed a push, pull, legs training split. This workout sequence allows you to train your body more athletically since you train movements instead of individual muscles. The back and biceps are responsible for all lifts in which you pull the weight towards you or pull your body towards a fixed bar. It’s impossible to isolate their actions so it helps to train them together to allow you more recovery time between workouts. Daily ab training is another key to having the resting tone needed to showcase your abs year round (provided your diet and nutrition are in check). Zac Efron’s diet is also covered here as well. To do so efficiently requires a very different nuclear reactor than the kind we use today- Not one that uses solid fuel rods, but a reactor in which the fuel is kept in a liquid state. Not one that uses pressurized water as a coolant, but a reactor that uses chemically stable molten salts. Such a reactor is called a "Molten Salt Reactor". Many different configurations are possible. Some of these configurations can harness Thorium very efficiently. This video explores the attributes of Molten Salt Reactors. Why are they compelling?
