www.dbowker3d.com Created for Abbott Labs. This animated video focuses on emerging research around the importance of Vitamin D its connection to a range of vital systems in the human body. For this project (which was produced while working at Animation Technologies) I and a junior animator created a range of sequences from macro level illustrations to micro-level animations of DNA transcription, parathyroid regulation, and tissue absorbtion. Music and a voice-overs were incorporated. www.dbowker3d.com An overview of selected clips and projects. My 3D animation work spans over fifteen years, both as a full-time senior staff animator, and for the past six years as an independent consultant. Each client and project is looked at as chance to learn something new and help them tell their story better than their competitors. I have a degree in product design and a professional dedication to problem solving. I've worked with clients creating large trade-show animations, sales collateral materials, instructional videos, and winning trial and litigation graphics.

Inecalcitol binds to the vitamin D receptor (VDR) which then links to the retinoid X receptor (RXR). This inecalcitol/VDR/RXR complex then binds to specific DNA sequences called vitamin D response elements to induce or repress gene expression. The genes regulated by vitamin D are involved in a wide variety of biological functions : calcium homeostasis, but also cell proliferation and differentiation, programmed cell death (apoptosis), inflammation and immunomodulation. The conformation of the VDR bound by inecalcitol is different from that of the VDR bound by vitamin D. As a result, the inecalcitol/VDR/RXR complex does not bind to the same vitamin D responsive elements, or with different affinities, as the vitamin D/VDR/RXR complex. Therefore, inecalcitol exerts more potent effects on the genes involved in cell proliferation and differentiation, apoptosis and immunomodulation, and much less on the genes responsible for the regulation of blood calcium levels. - 3DforScience is a Medical animation & scientific video production company for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and healthcare marketing campaigns. Vitamin D, known as the sunshine vitamin, is produced by the body as a response to sunshine; it can also be consumed in food or supplements. Although the name suggests otherwise, vitamin D is not really a vitamin because it’s not an essential element of the diet. Rather, it’s a prohormone synthesized by the skin when it’s exposed to sunlight. Despite the body’s ability to produce vitamin D and its availability in some foods, estimates indicate that 50% of children and adults worldwide have insufficient amounts of vitamin D in their bodies. Having enough vitamin D is important for a number of reasons including - maintaining healthy bones and teeth; - it may also protect against a range of conditions such as cancer - type 1 diabetes (it regulates insulin levels and aids diabetes management). Vitamin D is also helping to: • Support the health of the immune system, brain, and nervous system. • Support lung function and cardiovascular health. • Preventing multiple sclerosis. Nowadays we can see a lot of adverts and peoples testimonies how great Vit D is and how it changed their lives. In this video I will give you some facts and try to break some myths about Vit D. Let’s start 😊

Die Länge der Lampe LÉ 30 beträgt 908,8 mm, und der Durchmesser der Lampe 26,5 mm. with crohnic health its always best to share our experiences: http://www.mattkaczmarczyk.com Today I will go over my most recent blood results and doing a one over on what markers I look for & why. There is always a blood range a small increment out can actually generally be disregarded, however for the purposes of this video we are going to go all out. Doctors can tell you blood results when in fact that’s just there opinion, you should always ask for a print out of your own so you can be fully informed to the extent of your disease. Then I realize the bloods show I am in disease & not in fact 100%, key to know when I am willing to make lifestyle changes to help my condition. This was the case with this video where I had already made my 1st version based on my doctor’s outpatient letter, which was sent to me. I had been miss-calling the gastroenterologists a handful of times and eventually they also sent a full set of blood results. To my disappointment they confirmed the truth, which I will share with you today. I am going over what in particular should be looked for IBD, crohn’s disease, which is one of many autoimmune diseases. Although similarities can be drawn due to specific nature of how the body attracts itself; the bleeding seen in crohn’s & in particular with my disease (and the resulting effects on ones blood profile) make it difficult to compare to other diseases such psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, or lupus to name a few.. The appointment discharge letter: Problem with this is that this is based on an impression given in a 10 minute window into my life. My score was 0 so I cant complain but its not hard science in the form of blood test results, which I eventually got my hands. But this is basically a tick sheet getting score for crohns symptoms experienced. So 1) general well being (yesterday), 2) abdominal pain (yesterday), 3) no. of liquid stool (yesterday), 4) abdominal mass, 5) complications (you get a list, e.g. new fistula..) remission get a score less than 5, & severe disease above 16 HBI score sheet: http://www.gastrotraining.com/calculators/harvey-bradshaw-index-hbi Research: 1. This long overdue review of the non-toxic, cruelty-free brand Drunk Elephant is not a sponsored post, but brought by your requests! I hope you find this informative and helpful, my dear skinthusiasts! This brand is one of the very few American ones that are so transparent with their products and that makes it a pleasure to review. And, when products are on the pricey side, reviews are especially valuable because you want to be sure that the products are worth your hard earned money and you are making a good investment! As always, I will try to give you as much relevant information I can, as well as my own experience with these, so you can make an informed decision for your own skin which will have it’s own needs. I know this brand isn't available everywhere in the world so my apologies for that! I was told happily to share this paragraph from Tiffany Masterson in response to my questions that I go over in my video : “No, we recommend using C-Firma every day. L-Ascorbic Acid begins to form a reservoir after about 72 hours and so in theory, yes, you could use every 3 days, but for maximum benefit and results you would want to take advantage daily of the free radical protection that C-Firma provides when worn under a physical sunscreen. We are all exposed to the elements, pollution, UV rays, etc. on a daily basis, thus our recommendation for daily use. Using Vitamin C twice daily would be a waste due to the fact that the skin can only absorb 20% Vitamin C per day…also due to the reservoir effect, it’s simply not necessary. The natural tint comes from the the anti-irritant tetrahydro-curcuminoids, which naturally has that golden hue. It is also true that with age, L-Ascorbic acid will darken when in a water-based formulation. The ferulic acid and the vitamin E both help stabilize and protect the vitamin C from oxidation, but if exposed to air and light, it will oxidize. The pH level also insures stability, at 3.5. We recommend that you purchase and use within 4-6 months. This formulation is at its best when it’s fresh. We have also figured out a way to tighten up the filling process, reducing exposure to air to very little, so we continue to improve the experience for the consumer. If the product appears dark brown-orange, we believe it is probably not as effective. A new C-Firma should appear light-golden color. We never add color to any product to mask anything. That is not our thing. If an ingredient has a natural color, we go with it no matter what it is. We ditch all marketing and gimmicky dyes and scents in an effort to remain as transparent with the consumer as we can. We do not anticipate oxidation due to the airless packaging and stable formulation, so we would not need to mask, but we wouldn’t anyway. We would want the consumer to be aware so that they wouldn’t use it if in fact it became oxidized. We don’t believe it is necessary to store in the refrigerator.” — RELATED VIDEOS — Oils - Which are best for your skin https://youtu.be/R1TZwTDlzw4 Favourite Low pH cleansing sticks https://youtu.be/fkyemEBYWew The Ordinaries Pt.2 - Discuss Vitamin C https://youtu.be/xGYqBU6aWvQ Morning routine https://youtu.be/cnjG2UNZ2-o Serums https://youtu.be/SkGrQ2rZ4E8 — PRODUCTS MENTIONED — Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil https://goo.gl/MoVlTj JuJu Bar https://goo.gl/QRB180 Peekee Bar https://goo.gl/l7NJt0 Baby Juju & Baby Pekee Travel Duo https://goo.gl/YRIyBB The Littles https://goo.gl/XzEPcX C-Firma Day Serum https://goo.gl/Oeu0BX TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum https://goo.gl/pzT0p9 Websites that ship worldwide : www.wishtrend.com, www.ohlolly.com, www.testerkorea.com, www.stylekorean.com, www.roseroseshop.com, www.yesstyle.com, www.jolse.com, www.koreadepart.com Canadian site : www.bisoubeautybar.com My skin type : Dehydrated, often dry, sensitive. Learn more at EvolvingPast.com Dr Dale Bredesen is an internationally recognized researcher in Alzheimer's. His incredible resume includes being the Director of the Easton Center for Alzheimer's Research at UCLA as well as founding president and CEO of the Buck Institute on Aging in Novato, California. He has worked in the lab of 2 nobel prize winners and has run his own labs for 28 years looking at neurodegenerative diseases - focusing on Alzheimer's. Dr Bredesen's fundamental theory is that Alzheimer's is actually a protective brain response to different classes of insults. Classes of Insults Leading to Alzheimer’s Inflammation and the brain’s response to pathogens/infections – these trigger the creation of amyloid beta, a key chemical in the brain that destroys brain cell connections and is believed to be a key factor in the development of Alzheimer’s. Amyloid Beta is a part of the Innate Immune system which seems to be over stimulated or dysregulated in most cases of Alzheimer’s. Dr. Bredesen explains the connection of immune activation in Alzheimer’s. Inadequate amounts OR withdrawal of support of brain-“growing” chemicals like B12, vitamin D, and other hormones. This results in a downsizing of the networks of brain cell connections. Sugar toxicity – damages via: advanced glycation end products (AGEs) acting to damage through inflammation as well as, loss of cell supports because of shoddy insulin signaling necessary for healthy brain activity. A protective response by amyloid that bind to things that the brain 'perceives' as a toxin – things like: copper, iron, mercury, biotoxins, infections. People in their 50s and early 60s tend to have the more “toxic” form. Problems with blood vessels and leakiness in the protective blood-brain-barrier which result in lower support chemicals and toxicity. Trauma, e.g., from things like concussions – which also lower chemical and hormone support as well as make the brain susceptible to all the insults mentioned above. The story of “Patient Zero” (Minute 28:53) Dr. Bredesen describes the first success he had with his program. Things that induce Alzheimer’s a.k.a. “Dementogens” Biotoxins Exposures to water building and the harmful effects of mold Tick exposures Heavy Metals Exposure Aluminum, copper, mercury Water damaged building, mycotoxins Certain types of infections Concussions The effects of diabetes and poor diet Certain types of pollution Not enough time asleep or insufficient oxygen when you sleep. Not enough exercise Elements of a “Cognoscopy”Because the brain changes in Alzheimer’s can creep in 20 years or more before symptoms start prevention makes a whole lot of sense. Though a cognoscopy doesn’t really exist yet in a conventional medical setting, Dr. Bredesen’s thinks that one should probably be done around age 45 to assess the risk of developing Alzheimer’s and might include the following: Genetic markers and blood work that elucidates Dr. Bredesen’s three metabolic subtypes (see an MPICognitions.com to find a doctor trained in the protocol). Functional cognitive testing using BrainHQ, Lumosity, Cog-state, CNS vital signs to see where your brain function is in a “testing environment”. Brain MRI with volumetrics (listen to Evolving Past Alzheimer’s podcast with Dr. Cyrus Raji episode #6 for full explanation) if someone has symptoms. The Role of Sleep in Alzheimer’s Time of repair (don’t eat 3 hours before bed) Time for autophagy (brain cell “pruning”) There is a slight change in the microanatomy of the brain where some of the accumulated toxicants get “washed away” Sleep hygiene is important Who typically improves with the Bredesen Program? Dr. Bredesen mentions the “MoCA” which refers to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. This is a screening test that won’t tell you if someone has Alzheimer’s but can give you a general indication of different levels of cognitive impairment. Dr. Bredesen mentioned that people that score 22 or greater (out of 30) are seeing improvements with his methodology. These are people that are typically early on in their disease. Who typically does not improve with the Bredesen Program? People that are more “frail” (less able to exercise, etc.) People that are further along with the disease and have had symptoms for longer periods of time. How much improvement do people see with the Bredesen Program? Some people seem to get just a bit better in terms of mood, outlook, and brain function. Others get much better and almost completely back to their best brain function. Too early to say how many, but more than half of the people using the methodology report some sort of improvement. Non-ionizing radiation includes the spectrum of ultraviolet (UV), visible light, infrared (IR), microwave (MW), radio frequency (RF), and extremely low frequency (ELF). Lasers commonly operate in the UV, visible, and IR frequencies." Radiation Therapy- National Cancer Institute http://www.cancer.gov/publications/patient-education/radiationttherapy.pdf "Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and stop them from spreading. At low doses, radiation is used as an x-ray to see inside your body and take pictures, such as x-rays of your teeth or broken bones. Radiation used in cancer treatment works in much the same way, except that it is given at higher doses." GcMAF for the treatment of cancer, autism, viral and bacterial disease Human GcMAF, otherwise known as Vitamin D binding protein macrophage activating factor, holds great promise in the treatment of various illnesses including cancer, autism, chronic fatigue and possibly Parkinson's. Since 1990, 59 research papers have been published on GcMAF, 20 of these pertaining to the treatment of cancer. 46 of these papers can be accessed through the GcMAF web site. http://www.faim.org/autism/gcmaf-treatment-cancer-autism-inflammation-viral-bacterial-disease.html GcMAF is a vital part of our immune system which does not work without it; and is part of our blood. GcMAF stimulates the macrophage element of the immune system to destroy cancer cells. It also blocks the supply of nutrients to cancer cells by stopping blood vessel development to the site (anti-angiogenesis). Cancer cells are weakened and starved, making them more vulnerable to attack by the GcMAF stimulated macrophage system. Research has shown macrophage activation and stopping diseased blood vessel development can also help in various neurological diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory conditions, and diabetic retinopathy. In the case of autism, Dr. James Bradstreet has so far treated 1,100 patients with GcMAF with an 85% response rate. His results show a bell curve response with 15% of the patients showing total eradication of symptoms and 15% showing no response. In addition, experimental and clinical evidence confirms that GcMAF shows multiple powerful anti-cancer effects that have significant therapeutical impact on most tumors including breast, prostate, and kidney. GcMAF is created in the body by the release of two sugar molecules from a GcProtein molecule. End Song - "Skyfall" by Noah Guthrie

Sreeram opens the research talks with a presentation about the role that Vitamin D plays in MS. We can only make Vitamin D through our exposure to sunlight; if we don't get enough sun, we increase our risk. Ram also talks about the role that EBV -- the virus responsible for glandular fever, could play in the development of MS.

In this fascinating short film, Dr Sarah Myhill, a world-leader in the field of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, discusses metabolic energy expenditure, and what can affect it. Two thirds of the energy we produce physiologically is taken up by basal metabolic processes. These keep our brains working, our hearts beating, our liver, kidneys and gut doing their essential jobs. This leaves one third left for us to achieve everything else we need to - work, parent our children, exercise, create - everything our lifestyle requires. We can spend this energy physically, mentally or emotionally. Dr Myhill’s career in this field began with a focus on allergy, and this put the immune system at the forefront of her thinking. Our immune systems are remarkable multi-systemic meta-processes, that in many ways are still are poorly understood. But it is clear that sometimes, for a variety of reasons, our immune systems begin to misidentify their targets and begin attacking healthy tissue. Allergic responses are the immune system offering a magnified or inappropriate response to a substance we ingest, and autoimmune responses are a ‘civil war’ in which the immune system trains its bullets on our own bodies. Inflammatory responses can be useful in the body’s response to acute disease, but when inflammation becomes chronic, it can damage us in a myriad of ways. Inflammation in the gut often presents with conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, inflammation in the joints as arthritis, in the lungs as asthma, and in the brain as the brain fog familiar to so many CFS/ME sufferers. Both allergy and autoimmunity result in significant ‘immune wastage’, energy that is spent on futile or mistaken immune responses. There has also been a significant rise in the number of allergy sufferers, and it is now estimated that one in twenty people will develop an autoimmune condition in their lifetime. Dr Myhill has asked the question of why we are seeing such a marked increase in autoimmunity. She identifies a number of factors that she believes may hold the answer. Firstly, in the West, we tend to eat poor diets high in processed carbohydrates and sugars. Bacteria, parasites, and fungi such as candida flourish on fermenting such foods in our gut, and they are given an unfair advantage over our own immunity. Life is an arms race! Secondly, the food we eat is often devitalised and deficient in elements necessary for our bodies to maintain a healthy immune system. Our soils are depleted, and the movement of minerals and other trace elements out of them, into plants, animals and ultimately into us, is all one way. We use crude methods to bolster production, but we do not revivify the soil itself. This means you can be eating a spotless, well-rounded, organic diet and still end up deficient in key minerals. Dr Myhill has created a solution to this for her patients with her Sunshine Minerals, mineral salts that contain the basics of nutrition, including frequently deficient Vitamins D and B12. Thirdly, with the greatly increased schedule of vaccination, we run the risk of immune dysregulation from the effects of live and dead pathogens administered in such a way as to bypass the usual defences of the immune system. This is in addition to the presence of adjuvants that are designed to ‘switch on’ our immunity, and are often directly toxic themselves, containing aluminium or mercury. We are also seeing a significant increase in the incidence of insect vector-borne diseases such as Lyme disease, Babesia, Bartonella, and a host of others. We live in a changing world, and a warmer wetter climate, more human intrusion into previously wild habitats, and more international travel means we are exposed to an increasing number tick and insect transmitted diseases. When the above trend meets a weakened immune system, often the product of a modern lifestyle, the stage is set for long-term, chronic inflammatory disease. Dr Myhill treats many patients whose experience of illness is characterised by this complex mix of factors, and while there may be no one ‘magic bullet’, with hard work and determination, people can and do recover. Course materials at http://oregonstate.edu/instruct/bb451 Highlights Steroid Metabolism / Fat Transport 1. The liver senses the body's need for lipids via LDL receptors. If lipids are needed, VLDLs are packaged by the liver and released. These get degraded by lipases and other enzymes to IDLs and LDLs. LDLs are taken up by cells when needed. If the liver LDL receptor cannot detect LDLs in the blood, it continues to release more lipids in lipoprotein complexes. 2. LDL receptors are a leading cause of high blood cholesterol. Other factors to consider include dietary cholesterol, cholesterol synthesis rate, and efficiency of recycling cholesterol. Statins inhibit HMG-CoA Reductase. 3. LDLs are referred to as "bad" cholesterol, because they are associated with formation of atherosclerotic plaques. 4. HDLs are referred to as "good cholesterol", because they are associated with reducing levels of cholesterol. HDLs are reduced in smokers, but are increased in response to exercise. 5. LDLs can lead to formation of atherosclerotic plaques. These arise due to oxidative damage of unsaturated fatty acids in the LDL by reactive oxygen species. The immune system attacks these damaged LDLs. 6. Factors increasing LDLs include smoking, obesity, and saturated fat in the diet. 7. High levels of HDLs correlate with reduced incidences of atherosclerosis. Factors increasing HDLs include exercise and factors decreasing them include obesity and smoking. 8. SREBP (Steroid response element binding protein) is a protein that plays a role in controlling whether or not HMG-CoA reductase is made. When cholesterol is abundant, SREBP is found in the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum linked to SCAP through the regulatory (REG) region of SREBP. When cholesterol is abundant, SCAP-SREBP-A is held in the endoplasmic reticulum's membrane by a protein called INSIG 9. When cholesterol levels in the cell fall, the SCAP/SREBA complex loses its connection to INSIG and moves to the Golgi Complex where serine protease cleaves SREBP-A to release SREBP-B. SREBP-B migrates in the membrane to a metalloprotease, which clips the DNA binding region to free SREBP-C from the membrane-bound portion. The SREBP-C enters the nucleus and binds to the promoter region in front of the HMG-CoA Reductase, causing HMG-CoA Reductase to be synthesized. 10. HMG-CoA reductase can be broken down when cholesterol is abundant. Another INSIG carries an enzyme to ubiquitinylate the HMG-CoA reductase. Ubiquitin is a "flag" to the cell to digest it with a protease. 11. Phosphorylation of HMG-CoA reductase is also regulated by feedback inhibition and phosphorylation. Thus, HMG-CoA reductase can be regulated in multiple ways - synthesis, degradation, phosphorylation, allosterism. 12. Cholesterol is a precursor of the bile acids. Two examples include glycocholate and taurocholate. 13. Cholesterol is a precursor of the steroid hormones - all derived from pregnenolone and include Androgens (male sex hormones), Estrogens (female sex hormones), Mineralocorticoids (regulation Na/K and blood pressure), Glucocorticoids (fat/protein degradation & swelling/inflammation), and Progestagens (maintenance of pregnancy) . 14. Conversion of androgens to estrogens requires action of the aromatase enzyme. Some tumors are stimulated by estrogens, such as estradiol. Inhibition of them by aromatase inhibitors is a strategy of some chemotherapies. 15. Vitamin D is derived from cholesterol. A reaction converting 7-dehydrocholesterol to Previtamin D3 requires ultraviolet light. Conversion of Previtamin D3 to Vitamin D3 occurs spontaneously. Fatty Acid Oxidation 1. Breakdown of fats occurs by action of enzymes known as lipases. 2. Fatty acid oxidation and fatty acid synthesis are almost identically the chemical reverse of each other.

www.HealAnything.com Weighing originally almost 300 lbs each, Chris and Barbara healed themselves naturally from cancer and stroke. An emotional interview by Cara Brotman. See more at www.MarkusNews.com http://www.MarkusNews.com Let pioneers like Chris and Barbara Elvig help open your eyes to new possibilities and show you what’s possible…when you live the way nature intended….lost over half their weight and rid of cancer. They are incredibly happy with their lives and the results they have achieved by simply following the lifestyle Markus encourages. “It’s body, mind, and spirit”. You have to have balance. The best way to start is to get into raw-veganism. You’ll begin to feel good, you’ll feel healthy. When you start feeling better you’ll want to do more good things. You’ll care about the environment, the world and want to help others. It all starts with taking charge of yourself. Lost half their weight by eating vegan and supplementing with Markus products https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/06/150630121807.htm Springer Science+Business Media Summary: People on a vegetarian diet, and especially those following a vegan one that includes no animal products, see better results than dieters on other weight-reducing plans. In fact, they can lose around two kilograms more on the short term, say researchers after reviewing the results of twelve diet trials. Got rid of cancer by changing their lifestyle to include eating raw vegetables and suggested supplements. https://nutritionj.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1475-2891-3-19 It has been estimated that 30–40 percent of all cancers can be prevented by lifestyle and dietary measures alone. Obesity, nutrient sparse foods such as concentrated sugars and refined flour products that contribute to impaired glucose metabolism, which leads to diabetes, low fiber intake, consumption of red meat, and imbalance of omega 3 and omega 6 fats all contribute to excess cancer risk. Intake of flax seed, especially its lignan fraction, and abundant portions of fruits and vegetables will lower cancer risk. Allium and cruciferous vegetables are especially beneficial, with broccoli sprouts being the densest source of sulforophane. Protective elements in a cancer prevention diet include selenium, folic acid, vitamin B-12, vitamin D, chlorophyll, and antioxidants such as the carotenoids, α-carotene, β-carotene, lycopene, lutein, cryptoxanthin. Ascorbic acid has limited benefits orally, but could be very beneficial intravenously. Supplementary use of oral digestive enzymes and probiotics also has merit as anticancer dietary measures. When a diet is compiled according to the guidelines here it is likely that there would be at least a 60–70 percent decrease in breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers, and even a 40–50 percent decrease in lung cancer, along with similar reductions in cancers at other sites. Such a diet would be conducive to preventing cancer and would favor recovery from cancer as well. “To me the real heroes are those who have the strength to listen to their hearts and follow the path less traveled for its there that history is made like pioneers like Chris and Barbara Elvig as they helped open your eyes to new possibilities and show you what's possible when we stop doing what everyone else is doing and simply live the way nature intended.” https://library.uvm.edu/jspui/bitstream/123456789/377/1/Kelsey%20Steele%202013%20Thesis%20Final%20optimized.pdf Abstract. The vegan journey often begins with readiness to accept new information, the possibility of changing one’s current lifestyle, and strong feelings of sadness and inspiration. The journey continues with an acute awareness towards daily choices and an understanding of ones’ identity and values. The vegan journey may affect non-vegans and their perception of vegans, in both good and bad ways. I hope that the good ways continues to grow and that veganism becomes as normal in Burlington as are the movements for supporting local and organic foods. It is well established that the environmental, health, and ethical benefits from a vegan lifestyle greatly exceed the benefits from local and organic foods. http://www.oprah.com/health/Can-a-Plant-Based-Diet-Cure-Cancer https://nutritionj.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1475-2891-13-99 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3967195/ Our Raw Vegan Health Cookbook: http://www.HealthyCookbook.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/markus.rothkranz.7 Videos and articles: http://www.MarkusNews.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markusandcara/ Markus Rothkranz website: http://www.MarkusRothkranz.com Markus Products: http://www.HealAnything.com Markus Products: http://www.MarkusProducts.com German website: http://www.MarkusRothkranz.de

http://www.Divine Elements.ca 1- 604-568-3735 Mark: Hi, I'm Mark from Top Local Lead Generation. We're here with Dr. Nicohlas Jensen of Divine Elements in Vancouver, BC. He's a naturopathic doctor. We're going to talk about how to strengthen your immune system. How are you doing today, Dr. Nicholas? Dr. Nicholas: Great, Mark. Thanks for having me. How are you? Mark: I'm good. So today we're going to talk about 5 tips for strengthening your immune system. Dr. Nicholas: This is the time of year to really focus on the immune system. We see it all over the place with regards to flu shots at the pharmacy, bus stops, TV — everyone's talking about the next virus that's coming out and to get in for your flu shot. What's also being talked about more and more is the shorter days, the lack of sunshine and everyone's starting to get on board with vitamin D. So there is a lot more information about how to be a little more proactive. That's kind of what I want to bring up here, just really looking at how to support your own, natural immune system. It's called you innate immune system. Everyone has one, and it's just a matter of how strong it's functioning. So your innate immune system is basically first on the scene to any mircovirus or whatever that comes into the system. It communicates with your deeper immune system, to establish a quick attack for anything that's not supposed to be there. All the symptoms that we ever feel with an immune system response is just because our immune system is ramped up. So this includes the runny nose, the cough, the chills — this is actually signals from your body's immune system to fight off a virus. This is normal, this is not a bad thing. We don't need to prevent this from showing up, but we can do things to prevent this by supporting the innate immune response. There's some interesting numbers here that I just want to read off with regards to vitamin D, and because vitamin D is a craze right now, it's important that everybody be supplementing. The first fact is anything north of Georgia, USA, from the months of November until March are very unlikely to produce any sort of vitamin D at our latitude. So unless you're going somewhere hot, plan on implementing supplementation during these months. If you're deficient of vitamin D, you're 50% more likely to develop cardiovascular disease. At optimal levels of vitamin D, you prevent 50% of all cancers. Any deficiency of vitamin D is going to be associated with a multitude of different chronic illnesses. There were some interesting studies done by Dr. Michael Holick, he's one of the vitamin D gurus, he's written a book on it. He is constantly sampling the United States population for vitamin D deficiency, and one report discovered that 32% of all children and adults were vitamin D deficient. This was very specific population. On a national health report, 50% of children between the ages of 1 to 5 were said to be vitamin D deficient; 70% percent of children between the ages of 6 to 11 were found to be vitamin D deficient. So it's roughly estimated that 50% of the population is vitamin D deficient. This is unbelievable. The reality is, since we're the United States' Northern neighbours, the likelihood of us producing enough vitamin D is even less. Let's get into the 5 tips. First thing, we've talked about vitamin D, this is very important. I recommend all my patients at some point to get their vitamin D levels checked through blood; that way you can dose accordingly. In general, though, 3000 IUs per day is pretty safe for most people. Second thing — we've talked about this many times — is lifestyle medicine. This includes getting to bed on time, helping to balance your blood sugar through whole foods ("avoiding the middle aisles of the grocery store" as many nutritionists would suggest), and lastly, making sure to hydrate. Even though it's not hot outside, we still need to hydrate ourselves. Third one is looking at adaptogenic herbs, these are stress adaptation herbs. The reason a lot of us do get sick is because we maybe have deficiencies and whatnot, but we're also very stressed out — which decreases the function of the immune system. A great herb for long-lasting viral or immune infection is astragalus. We all know echinacea, eleutherococcus, withania, rhodiola, Korean ginseng — these are all great, immune boosting adaptogenic herbs. Fourth — Specifically at our clinic, on top of those things, we will recommend immune boosting intravenous treatments. This is where we can give you a high dose of vitamin C and other minerals and B vitamins, and very quickly and efficiently boost people's immune systems and keep them from getting sick. We have many patients in our clinic who will come in during this time of year and do a series of five or six IVs to prevent any signs of cold from showing up. They count on this treatment to make sure that happens.

High iron levels can negate your good diet and exercise habits while raising your risk of age-related diseases like cancer and heart disease. In our latest episode Dennis Mangan shares the best methods for testing for high iron and reducing iron to healthy levels in your system, plus touches on the benefits of intermittent fasting and his perspective on SARM’s. Three Takeaways You may have your diet and exercises and sleep dialed in, but an over-accumulation of iron may negate those good habits Know your ferritin levels and aim for lower than the “normal” range in lab tests The #1 most effective way to get rid of iron is blood donation Article- Dennis started with the basics of iron as a reactive element. Iron reacts with different constituents in our body, so the more iron in our body the more damage it causes. The #1 storage mechanism for iron in our bodies is our blood. Interestingly, Dennis points out than 10% of people in the US are truly iron-deficient, and those are mostly pre-menopausal women. The basic problem is this: Our bodies are evolutionarily conditioned to retain iron, so we have exquisite internal mechanisms for grabbing onto iron and no controlled means for getting rid of it. Over the years our bodies gradually accumulate iron and continue accumulating it beyond a healthy point. In fact, Dennis explained, “The average 35-yr old man has about 4-5x the amount of iron in his body as a woman the same age.” Our internal systems for mitigating the damage of iron aren’t perfect, resulting in age-related diseases like cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, all of which afflict men at much higher rates. So you may have your diet and exercises and sleep dialed in, but an over-accumulation of iron may negate those good habits. Then Dennis went into detail on how to get your iron to healthy levels; “Know your ferritin levels – this test is the most common measure of the level of stored iron in your body...The #1 most effective way to get rid of iron is blood donation. The average man who donates blood once a year cuts his ferritin levels in half.” If you’re not qualified to donate blood you have other options for lowering iron levels, from exercise to supplements and diet habits that inhibit iron uptake. There are no iron-reducing pharmaceutical products, which explains why there’s no incentive to raise public awareness of the issue. We hear much more about cholesterol as the cause of age-related issues like heart disease, because there are so many cholesterol-reducing drugs being pushed on the public. We finish up by touching on the benefits of intermittent fasting and keto powders. Intermittent fasting puts you into a state when your body is burning fat for fuel, and keto supplement powders that help put your body into ketosis faster can help you fast longer and reduce hunger pangs. There is an important point to remember- Adding protein or BCAA’s during your fast will cause an insulin response and mitigate the benefits of intermittent fasting. All studies show that intermittent fasting does NOT burn muscle - provided you’re getting enough calories overall. To get the benefits of intermittent fasting, start by experimenting with minimizing your eating window – skipping breakfast and shutting down food intake at 8pm - to turn on your body’s fat burning furnace. Iron levels are so critical to aging that excess iron may negate all your good diet, exercise and sleep habits. So getting your iron to healthy levels should be an integral part of your self-directed health management. Start by working with forward-thinking doctors who can help analyze your lab tests and donating blood 1-2x per year. Our final episodes of Anatomy & Physiology explore the way your body keeps all that complex, intricate stuff alive and healthy -- your immune system. The immune system’s responses begin with physical barriers like skin and mucous membranes, and when they’re not enough, there are phagocytes -- the neutrophils and macrophages. It also features the awesomely named natural killer cells and the inflammatory response, and we'll explain how all of these elements work together to save the day if you happen to slip on a banana peel. This healthy molecule is found in every cell of the body, particularly in the brain and heart. Because the body doesn't produce these oils on its own, they must be obtained through dietary consumption. VITAMIN A (BETA-CAROTENE) Beta-carotene is an organic compound found abundantly in plants and vegetables. A member of the carotenoids, it can be metabolized into Vitamin A, yielding many compelling health benefits. These include heart health, cell protection, and heightened immunity. This essential nutrient is also beneficial in sustaining optical health and brain function. VITAMIN D3 Vitamin D is one of several vitamins required for normal growth and development. This essential nutrient contributes to the absorption of calcium, which is an important process for bone development and strength. Gaynor explains how to prevent breast cancer and the major warning signs of breast cancer. Mitchell Gaynor: I think the first thing people should know about breast cancer prevention is that it's never too late and people ask me all the time, they'll say "Dr. Gaynor, isn't it too late for me, I've smoked two packs a day for the last 30 years" or they'll say "Dr. Gaynor, isn't it too late for me, everybody in my family had breast cancer or lung cancer" or "Dr. Gaynor, isn't it too late for me, I've been 50 pounds overweight for most of my adult life and I've had all the bad habits, consumed all the processed food, too much sugar, isn't it too late?" The answer is very clearly, even if you've had breast cancer, it's never too late, the reason that it's never too late is because you still have an immune system, you still have a detoxification system and you can do a lot of thing to support both of those body systems. So a lot of what integrated oncology really looks at, how do you support your detoxification system, what is the detoxification system. That's the part of your body, that's the enzymes found in most abundantly in your liver, but in almost every organ system, your lung, your gut, your intestine all have detoxifying enzymes that break down a lot of the cancer causing chemicals that are ubiquitous in our environment that we're all exposed to and there was a fascinating study done by Kathy Helzlsouer at Johns Hopkins University that was published also in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and she examined women with and without breast cancer. What she found was interesting, she looked for one of the most common detoxifying enzymes called GSD or glutathione S-transferase. What the study found was is that women with the lowest levels of GST were four times as likely to develop breast cancer as women with the higher levels. Now one of the important things from this and many other studies and we can measure detoxifying enzyme levels and there's a lot of genetic variability into how people detoxify. So for instance people who detoxify in their lung, cigarette smoke more slowly they've been found in some studies to have an elevated risk of lung cancer. There are a number of nutrients that have been found to increase detoxifying enzyme levels and it's amazing to me because a lot of people think when you talk about gene therapy that that's something that's a hundred years away and maybe it's some distance promise. The fact of the matter is every person is doing gene therapy, every time he or she eats okay. So all the nutrients you're putting in your body for better or for worse are doing things at the level of your DNA. So to get back to the detoxification story, vitamins A, vitamin C and Vitamin E, the three most common antioxidant vitamins, they do a lot of things besides protecting your body against free radicals. For instance there's an area of the DNA called the ARE or antioxidant responsive element, the antioxidant vitamins bind to the ARE and this area is very close the area that codes for all the detoxifying enzymes in your body. So they bind to it and up regulate or increase the production of these detoxifying enzymes. That's critically important, but those antioxidant vitamins that maybe one of their most important roles but there are a lot of other nutrients that increase detoxifying enzymes and people need to know about these. This is the kind of wisdom that can help people, the nutrients in garlic helps increase detoxification. There's a nutrient in broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, the cruciferous vegetables called sulforaphane, that's one of the most powerful inducers of detoxifying enzymes. There's a nutrient in turmeric which increases-- turmeric is what gives curry it's yellow color, induces detoxifying enzymes and by the same token, there's a lot of beneficial things people can do for their immune systems. The Maritime Security Response Team (MSRT) is a specialized tactical force of the U.S Coast Guard. MSRT is a highly trained unit capable of conducting helicopter insertions against armed hostiles, scuba operations, and can storm disputed oil platforms or ships. Though not apart of the US Special Operations Community, the MSRT is considered to be about as close to “special operations capable” as the Coast Guard can get. The unit’s aim is to become the nation’s lead maritime tactical response force. Elements of the MSRT's primary assault force are known as Direct Action Section. Members of a DAS may include a Team Leader, Comms/JTAC's, Breachers, Medics, Precision Marksmen Observation members (snipers/observers), and team members trained to identify Chemical Biological Nuclear Radiological (CBRN) threats. They are made up of Coast Guardsman that have volunteered to attend selection and screening for the unit. Once they have successfully completed all phases of the assessment and selection process, they are assigned to a team, where they undergo even more scrutiny throughout their qualification process. If they successfully become qualified, they integrate fully with the team and continue to hone all aspects of the skill sets needed on an assault team. These assault force teams train extensively in advanced close quarters combat and advanced combat marksmanship. They are well equipped to quickly and surreptitiously board suspicious vessels, secure gas and oil platforms or secure land based targets by fast-roping from helicopters or using other undisclosed methods to neutralize enemy personnel. The Tactical Delivery Team, boat assault force, are trained in advanced vessel delivery tactics and stealthy delivery of the main assault force as well as follow on forces. The MSRT is the only unit within the Coast Guard that has counterterrorism capabilities to conduct action against hostile targets. The MSRT is trained to be the first responder to potential terrorist threats, deny preemptive terrorist actions, execute security actions against armed hostiles and/or non-compliant threats, execute tactical facility entry, participate in port level counterterrorism exercises, and educate other forces on Coast Guard counterterrorism procedures. Although the MSRT's focus is primarily on the safety and security of homeland defense, it is capable of rapidly deploying worldwide in response to incidents. Other specialized units and federal agencies that MSRT routinely train with are U.S. Navy SEAL teams, U.S. Navy HSC Squadrons, Navy EOD, Special Mission Units, the U.S. Secret Service, FBI, U.S. Border Patrol's BORTAC, and US Customs and Border Protection SRT. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.723815667755216.1073742008.220724094731045&type=3 Video copyright: (C) U.S Coast Guard Music Copyright: Hans Zimmer - Do Think I'm a Saxon

According to Dr Gabrielle Lyon losing muscle is tantamount to losing brain tissue which is one of the core processes that occurs in Alzheimer's. Dr. Gabrielle Lyon is a Functional medicine physician focusing on Muscle-Centric Medicine. She leverages evidence-based medicine with emerging cutting-edge science to restore metabolism, balance hormones and optimize body composition. Prior to her foray into medicine, Dr. Lyon was a national semifinalist in Fitness America, and a professional fitness model. Dr Lyon currently works as a practicing physician in New York City. She recently co-authored a chapter in a textbook, the Chapter is entitled "Metabolic Interventions for Sarcopenic Obesity." What is sarcopenia? Sarcopenia is age-associated loss of muscle mass and function. When sarcopenia AND obesity are both going on in someone they compound each other. Dr Lyon maintains that there are signs of muscle loss long before actual sarcopenia sets in. Interestingly, obesity is somewhat analogous to aging in that both are low grade inflammatory/catabolic/breakdown states where healing becomes more difficult. Dr Lyon's Ideal Body Weights -Women 15-20% body fat -Men 12-15% How does this get diagnosed or assessed? Secondary hyperparathyroidism sometimes because of low vitamin D levels When Leptin is higher than 10 Dr Lyon notices that people respond well to time restricted eating 2-3 times per week. If higher than 30 she likes them do 24-hour fast once a week (can drink water and coffee, under medical supervision of course). Women's muscle changes as they age. Muscle changes to Type 2 fibers, bulky and strong, and then begins to atrophy. Many aging women tend to lose muscle mass as they age. Dr Lyon notes that many women have under performing (low) thyroid. Thyroid, among other hormones, are important for muscle building, tendon tissue homeostasis (eg alot of musculoskeletal type injury). Dr Lyon goes into detail on where the RDA's recommendations for protein were derived from and how and why she disagrees and other noted experts with them. Dr Lyon suggests a protein intake of 1.5grams per kg of body weight for optimal muscle in aging. This is nearly DOUBLE than the RDA recommendation. The reason for this is to activate a muscle/protein building pathway (ie the "insulin mTOR-metabolic pathway") in the body that will not activate without this. The protein should be distributed over the course of a day (eg 3 times per day) with the right amount and enough of it. At least 30 grams with each of your 3 meals would be the minimum to engage the muscle building pathway. These should typically be spaced about 4 hours away from each other. 90 grams might be the lowest someone would go in order to engage the MTOR-based muscle building pathway. With age reduction of protein absorption, increased splanchnic extraction gives rise to needing to intake higher amounts of protein. 2.5grams of leucine equates to about 4-5 grams of something protein in something like chicken or beef or fortified amino acids powders. mimize carbohydrates to 30-45 grams with meals to reduce your insulin response as carbohydrates are made during your body's breaking down protein. Aging men with healthy kidneys may consider getting up to 40-50 grams up to three times per day. Leucine helps generate Glutamine and Arginine and other elements related to the immune system, blood pressure regulation, and other critical functions Rice/Pea protein are often fortified to have good numbers of branched chain amino acids (leucine importantly included among them). Dr Lyon Exercise Fundamentals Upper Body Resistance -Bench press -Push ups -Pull ups or rowing maching Lower Body Resistance -Squat -Deadlifts General Cardioaerobic -1-2 days per week of 12-20 minutes of interval sprints, rowing or skiing Note: Dr Lyon's approach represents one important approach to muscle synthesis in aging. There are other formidable opinions on the impact of amino acids, high protein diets and aging that were not covered in this episode.

Invited Session at ECSS MetropolisRuhr 2017 "Individualisation in Recovery Science" Individual Response to Interventions Supporting Recovery Halson, S. Recovery from training and competition is complex, involves numerous factors and is typically dependant on the nature of the exercise performed and any other external stressors that the athlete may be exposed to. Recovery techniques range from rest and sleep, nutritional strategies, warming down and stretching, psychological recovery and hydrotherapies (cold water immersion, contrast water therapy). Evidence for the benefits of many recovery practices is currently increasing and the mechanisms behind these improvements in performance are becoming clearer. However, considerable individual variation in responses to recovery strategies exist and is likely related to factors such as temperature, duration, frequency and timing of recovery sessions. Accelerated and appropriate recovery can enable the athlete to continually train and perform at the highest level, and as such should be a critical element in any training and competition program, however strategies should be tailored to the individual athlete.

At the 'Autoimmunity Congress Asia' in Hong Kong on 22 Nov 2013, Professor Trevor Marshall introduced new molecular knowledge about human antibodies, and human autoantibodies, which points away from the antibodies being causal, but a manifestation of immune response to the persistent human microbiome. Autoantibodies seem to be 'collateral damage' as the body tries to fight pathogenic elements of the human microbiome.

How Sucking on a Lemon Can Help Fight Leukemia The “Lemons for Leukemia” campaign has become a social media hit. It’s the latest viral video effort to raise money for disease research. When life hands you lemons… you take a bite and film it for YouTube. That’s how the adage goes, right? It is if you’re 21-year-old Chris Betancourt and 19-year-old Dillon Hill, best friends and founders of Lemons for Leukemia, a social media campaign aimed at raising awareness for the bone marrow registry. In late 2017, Betancourt was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. Without a bone marrow transplant, doctors told Betancourt he had just one year to live. When he heard his friend’s news, Hill decided to take time off from college and help his buddy live every one of those days to its fullest. The two wrote Betancourt’s bucket list, everything he’d like to accomplish as long as he’s able, as a roadmap for their adventures and goals. “When we first had that phone call recently and he was re-diagnosed, he said he was afraid of not being able to experience some things in life that we all plan on doing, so we kind of just decided to make a bucket list and document every single moment of it,” Hill told “Good Morning America.” “I couldn’t sit in a lecture hall while he was potentially dying". The friends are finding many wonderful events and firsts to do together — flying a plane, smashing guitars, being on TV — and documenting each of their adventures on their site One List, One Life and their YouTube channel. In addition to checking boxes on the list, however, the duo hopes to possibly save a few lives in the process — and make other cancer patients’ dreams come true, too. Ëat a lemon, save a life The Lemons for Leukemia social media campaign calls on participants to take a bite (or a squeeze) out of a lemon, film their puckered face reactions, share it on social media platforms, and challenge others to do the same. “I originally came up with the idea because of the sour taste chemo leaves in your mouth,” Betancourt told Healthline. “It’s not a pleasant experience, but you’ve just got to bite in.” The goal for the campaign is to raise awareness for the bone marrow donor registry and encourage individuals to sign up to be a donor. It’s a simple act, but it’s one that could save someone’s life, possibly Betancourt’s. To become a donor, you can register online with the National Bone Marrow Donor Program. A free cheek-swab kit will be sent to you. You’ll collect a sample and return the kit to the registry. If you’re matched with someone on the registry, you’ll undergo an out-patient procedure to extract bone marrow for the donation. On March 1, Hill and Betancourt set out to complete a bucket list item (“Set a world record”) and add as many names to the registry as they could. Their challenge was heeded by more than 3700 people, which was indeed a world record for the most number of donor list sign-ups in one day. As word of the challenge continues to spread, and more pucker-inducing videos of people eating lemons are shared, the list is gaining even more names and attention. Actor and comedian Danny DeVito even recently joined Betancourt for a few bites of a lemon. “We started off begging and almost paying our friends to film themselves with a lemon,” Hill told Healthline. “We didn’t expect it to explode so quickly. It’s incredible.” The power of social media charity campaigns If the script for Lemons for Leukemia feels familiar, that’s because it is. Building on the success of several other charity video campaigns like the ALS Association’s Ice Bucket Challenge, which raised more than $100 million for the organization, stunt campaigns proliferate in the social media world. In fact, they’re quite common, which means they’re not always very successful. “A huge number of viral videos are cooked up in company marketing departments and released into the wild on a daily basis. Others are dreamed up by individuals in hopes of going viral,” Daniel Levine, a trends expert and keynote speaker, told Healthline. “Every few weeks, one seems to succeed. While many companies and basement YouTubers try to nail down the formula for viral success, at the end of the day, it’s like putting any product out there: you do your best and hope for market-pull.” Authenticity is one element of success, said Michelle Kubot, marketing director at Ambrosia Treatment Center, and not everyone has it. Campaigns such as Lemons for Leukemia, however, reach an emotional peak with people based on the campaign’s authentic call and response. #lemonsforluekemiachallenge thanks for watching. now get on board and help.raise awareness for bone marrow for luekemia 👍 whoop whoop 👍 music by - bensound.com
