I hope that veiled women who watch this video clip are convinced of their susceptibility to having low Vitamin D levels and consider supplementing to prevent Bone Diseases (such as Osteoperosis). ------------------------------------- Background Research and Information Vitamin D helps the body absorb Calcium and therefore is the primary and most crucial regulator of Calcium homeostasis. In addition to Vitamin D's role in preventing bone disease, new breakthrough studies link Vitamin D the prevention of other diseases including autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and even certain types of cancer. In Canada, the primary food source of Vitamin D is milk, but the primary source worldwide, is sunlight exposure. By exposing our skin to the suns UV rays, our body is able to produce its own vitamin D, but what happens when sun exposure is limited? Studies have shown that the Canadian northern latitude puts Canadians at risk of vitamin D deficiency due to its low sun exposure year round. Currently 25% of Canadians are not reaching optimal Vitamin D levels, and this level increases in the winter months. Aside from this, Numerous studies conducted in Middle Eastern countries, a region with high sun exposure, have shown that veiled women have still have lower Vitamin D statuses as compared to unveiled women living in the same region. This is of course attributed to wearing long clothing and not having adequate sun exposure. It is easy to see that veiled women living in Canada are subjected to a two-fold risk of developing a Vitamin D deficiency, and this of course makes them vulnerable to diseases, most notably bone diseases. The solution is simple, if you live in Canada and wear a veil/Hijab, like myself, supplement Vitamin D, prevent deficiency, prevent disease. If a veil doesn't stand in your way, a deficiency shouldn't either.

Rickets - It occurs in children where legs bent out & development of child is very poor. 2.Osteomalacia - bone pain & muscle pain occurs in mild osteomalacia & fragility fracture occurs in severe stage. 3.Osteoporosis - due to lack of calcium bone becomes brittle & fracture occurs from normal movement.Pressure & sneezing may cause fracture. Some studies shown that cancer of skin occurs due to sun exposure.But it is subject who continous/more work in sunlight.They may use sunscreen to avoid bad effects. Conclussion is that vit d is necessary to absorb calcium.We dont get enough from food so you must take sunbath for 15 min to 30 min everyday or twice or thrice per week. In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. They are produced by big pharmaceutical companies, for instance, Centrum is a product of the Pharma giant Wyeth, while Bayer HealthCare of aspirin fame makes the One A Day line. Numerous supplements are also sold by Unilever, Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline and other big pharmaceutical firms, and a great part of them are high in artificial additives, synthetic flow agents, chemical colorings, and even imitation vitamin compounds, which cannot be completely processed by the body as it does not recognize them. These are some facts about supplements you need to know: Supplements and pills derived from whole foods treat many, but not all synthetic vitamins deficiencies. Numerous supplements, especially multivitamins, are not derived from edible foods but are a product of synthetically manufactured substances. Synthetic substances are often not absorbed well, and if in high amounts, they have disastrous effects. Long-term epidemiological evidence shows that typical multi-nutritional vitamins do not provide many health benefits. Dangerous Ingredients in Supplements: Yet, one of the most shocking facts about supplements is the one that they include GMOs, and what’s more, in excessive amounts! They are high in genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), toxic additives, aspartame, aluminum, and petroleum-derived artificial colors. All of these destroy the gut bacteria. The following list includes GMO Fillers(unless listed) which must be avoided in the supplements: GMO fed pork/beef gelatin. Soy lecithin. Modified food starch (corn). Corn starch. Whey/egg white protein from GMO-fed cattle/chickens. Hydrogenated soybean oil. Maltodextrin. Citric acid. Lactic acid. Ascorbyl palmitate. Xanthan gum. Natural flavoring. You should also stay away from the following toxins as well: Stearic Acid and Magnesium Stearate. Magnesium stearate is added to at least 90 percent of all vitamin supplements, and it is made by adding a magnesium ion to stearic acid. It has lubricating abilities, which is often the reason why it is added to supplements, and it prevents the sticking of capsules and pills to each other. Immunology published a study which showed that stearic acid could suppress the activity of our natural killer cells, T cells, and thus cause “ a loss of membrane potential and ultimately cell function and viability.” It is in fact sourced from hydrogenated oils like cottonseed oil, and it is often rich in pesticide residue, as it is genetically engineered. Titanium dioxide. This is a common pigment in vitamins and supplements, and the exposure to it can weaken the immune system. “Titanium dioxide has recently been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen ‘possibly carcinogen[ic] to humans,’” explains the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health & Safety on its website. “This evidence showed that high concentrations of pigment-grade (powdered) and ultrafine titanium dioxide dust caused respiratory tract cancer in rats exposed by inhalation and intratracheal instillation.” Carrageenan. A warning issued by the Cornucopia Institute, a highly-effective food activism group, warns that it causes “gastrointestinal inflammation, including higher rates of colon cancer, in laboratory animals.” It also leads to gastrointestinal symptoms (spastic colon, irritable bowel syndrome/IBS, chronic diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, etc.), so you must avoid it in order to stay safe. Silicon dioxide. It is in fact just common sand, but it is used as an expensive filler, with the aim to make the bottle weigh more, and thus give the impression that it is of higher quality. Artificial colors. Artificial colors are related to various issues, from cancer to hyperactivity in children. In a new study, researchers at the UCSD School of Medicine and Moores Cancer Center used a complex computer prediction model to determine that intake of vitamin D3 and calcium would prevent 58,000 new cases of breast cancer and 49,000 new cases of colorectal cancer annually in the US and Canada. The researchers model also predicted that 75% of deaths from these cancers could be prevented with adequate intake of vitamin D3 and calcium. Research from PubMed: In 1981, R. Edgar Hope-Simpson proposed that a 'seasonal stimulus' intimately associated with solar radiation explained the remarkable seasonality of epidemic influenza. Solar radiation triggers robust seasonal vitamin D production in the skin; vitamin D deficiency is common in the winter, and activated vitamin D, 1,25(OH)2D, a steroid hormone, has profound effects on human immunity. 1,25(OH)2D acts as an immune system modulator, preventing excessive expression of inflammatory cytokines and increasing the 'oxidative burst' potential of macrophages. Perhaps most importantly, it dramatically stimulates the expression of potent anti-microbial peptides, which exist in neutrophils, monocytes, natural killer cells, and in epithelial cells lining the respiratory tract where they play a major role in protecting the lung from infection. Volunteers inoculated with live attenuated influenza virus are more likely to develop fever and serological evidence of an immune response in the winter. Vitamin D deficiency predisposes children to respiratory infections. Ultraviolet radiation (either from artificial sources or from sunlight) reduces the incidence of viral respiratory infections, as does cod liver oil (which contains vitamin D). An interventional study showed that vitamin D reduces the incidence of respiratory infections in children. Here are some interesting facts about vitamin D which you probably never heard before. The rays of natural sunlight that produce vitamin D in your skin cannot penetrate glass. This means you cannot get vitamin D inside a car or at home. A person would have to drink ten tall glasses of vitamin D fortified milk each day just to get minimum levels of vitamin D into their diet. The further you live from the equator, the longer exposure you need to the sun in order to generate vitamin D. Canada, the UK and most U.S. states are far from the equator. Weak sunscreens such as SPF 8 can block Vitamin D by up to 95%. This can cause vitamin D deficiency problems and disease if used commonly. 40% of the U.S. population is vitamin D deficient. People who are tan require more time in the sun to get vitamin D, because the darker skin pigment blocks the effects of the sun. Vitamin D is activated in your body by your kidneys and liver before it can be used. Having kidney disease or liver damage can greatly impair your body's ability to activate circulating vitamin D. If it hurts to press firmly on your sternum, you may be suffering from chronic vitamin D deficiency right now. In 1997, Ron and Natalie Trecroce made the decision to adopt a child. The Canadian couple found themselves in Arad, Romania where they hoped to find the perfect addition for their family. Two women share their experience with a rare illness called Behcet's Disease on Discovery Health Canada. Behcet's Disease (BD) is a rare, chronic autoimmune disease that causes pain and inflammation of the blood vessels anywhere in the body, thereby reducing the blood supply and causing tissue and organ damage, which can lead to death. It usually appears in the 20-40 age group, but has been seen in all ages, from newborn to geriatric. Symptoms of BD are oral and genital ulcers, eye involvement (which can lead to blindness), skin lesions, blood clots, central nervous symptoms (such as strokes and seizures), headaches, aneurysms, heart, kidney and digestive tract disorders just to name a few. Behcet's Disease is also considered an invisible disease because most people look healthy on the outside while slowly dying on the inside.
