But what if I told you that part of the solution very well could be our relationship with vitamin D, what we're getting from the sun. And not necessarily just the vitamin D that we're getting from the sun, but the vitamin D that we're getting from our food and potentially from our supplementation. I'm going to dive into the details of how that connection actually takes place. According to the National Library of Medicine we found that about 40-50% of Americans are already deficient in vitamin D. When you start thinking that vitamin D might be linked with mood disorders, well, then it's pretty evident that we need to be paying attention to it. Now the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found that the link between vitamin D and our mood lies within the neurotransmitter serotonin. Now that serotonin neurotransmitter is what's responsible for us having a sense of well being. For us feeling calm, cool, and collected. Quite the opposite of feeling anxious or potentially depressed. Well, I'm going to get into the intricate details of it in just a minute, so you understand how serotonin works and so that you can make the connection. But what we have to remember first and foremost, is that a lot of these ties are still widely unknown. This is a pretty new topic, pretty new investigations when it comes down to vitamin D and the brain. Let's take a look at serotonin really quick. Okay? It's the job of serotonin, again, to help us feel good. The process of actually creating serotonin in the body is pretty interesting. You see, it comes down to something called trip to fan. What trip to fan is, is an amino acid. Those amino acids are usually derive from proteins that we consume. When we consume those proteins we generally require carbohydrates to allow the trip to fan to enter into the brain. Well, what researchers are now finding is that vitamin D could be a very critical component in that conversion process. Essentially, eat protein, get the trip to fan, have it go into the brain with the help of carbohydrates and then vitamin D comes in and assists in the metabolism and the creation of serotonin. Right at the very root of creating this neurotransmitter that helps us feel good. Now researchers are continuing to back up the fact that everything seems to be lying in what are called monoamines. Monoamines are a group of neurotransmitters including serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. All three neurotransmitters that truly regulate how the brain operates when it comes to feeling good. Again, if we see that link between vitamin D and the creation of these monoamines you can get the hint that well, it might be pretty critical to overall feeling well. There's one study in particular that I really want to reference because it backs a lot of this up and it was done by Oregon State University. What it looked at was a 185 female participants that were all college students, okay, between the ages of 18 and 25. What they did is they initially measured their vitamin D levels. They found naturally that a lot of them were already deficient in vitamin D. But what they did is they monitored these women for an extended period of time. They monitored them over the winter time, over the spring, over the summer, and they watched their vitamin D levels fluctuate. Of course, naturally, in the winter time vitamin D levels were significantly lower. References 1) Can Vitamin D Improve Mood? | Healthy Eating | SF Gate. (n.d.). READ MORE HERE: https://goo.gl/oFZtmU Instagram: http://bit.ly/2n7nXqo Facebook: http://bit.ly/2mQbtl4 When someone tells you that getting sunlight is good for your health, they aren’t lying. The primary benefit of sunlight is vitamin D. Often referred to as “the sunlight vitamin”, it is currently one of the most underutilized nutritional supplements for cognitive and physical health. The majority of people in the western world live in regions where sunlight is inconsistent during many months of the year. Because of this, supplementation (whether via fish products or pure vitamin D supplements) is often advised. The benefits of vitamin D are plenty, but the brain is one of the biggest benefactors. Studies show increased cognitive abilities with adequate vitamin D, there is evidence vitamin D regulates serotonin and thus influences anxiety and depression. Benefits of Vitamin D The benefits of vitamin D range from enhancing cognitive performance to reducing neurological decline and even supporting healthier mood (reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression). One animal study showed that long-term treatment of vitamin D could help slow the rate of decline in the hippocampus (where memories are stored) showing promising neuroprotective effects. This may be one of the correlations between vitamin D and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s. Some studies show that vitamin D supplementation could reduce symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and there is an inverse relationship between serum vitamin D and risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The same inverse relationship exists with Parkinson’s disease. Unfortunately, when adults were tested (who had sufficient vitamin D levels), the addition of 5000 IU of vitamin D failed to influence any cognitive indicators]. Therefore, some could conclude that vitamin D is a liability when one is deficient, but is not necessarily much of a cognitive asset in high quantities. Of course, one of the main benefits of vitamin D is related to mood and particularly anxiety and depression. One study showed that depressed adults deficient in vitamin D were able to decrease symptoms by 42%. There seems to be ample evidence against this hypothesis as well, but recent research shows a potential mechanism for improved mood and reduced anxiety. In a 2014 dated study, Dr. Rhonda Patrick showed that vitamin D is required for regulating serotonin. While her study focused on how this might help reduce symptoms of autism, it is nevertheless interesting given the context of mood and reduced anxiety.

We often get this vitamin from exposure to sunlight, but it is also obtained by eating certain foods such as fish and dairy products. Vitamin D supplementation is also popular, since getting enough of this vitamin is difficult from diet alone. Unfortunately, there are quite a few individuals who are deficient in this vitamin without even knowing it as the signs and symptoms are either subtle or not well known. Over time this could have a negative effect on an individuals quality of life. Lets discuss some signs and symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. 1. Those who are vitamin D deficient may feel more fatigued and tired. Since there are so many reasons why we can feel tired and fatigued during the day, such as lack of sleep or obesity, vitamin D deficiency is often overlooked. Vitamin D deficiency can cause daytime fatigue or even make it harder to get out of bed in the mornings, even with quality sleep. 2. Vitamin D plays an important role in keeping our immune system strong and free from different bacteria and illness. This is because vitamin D directly effects the cells that are responsible for fighting against infection. Therefore, another sign and symptom of vitamin D deficiency is getting sick more often. Low levels of vitamin D can be a contributing factor to becoming infected with cold and flus more often. As well, it has been found that taking vitamin D supplements may reduce the risk of certain respiratory tract infections. 3. Another possible symptom of vitamin D deficiency is bone and lower back pain. Vitamin D is an important vitamin for maintaining overall bone health. It supports bone health and helps with the body’s absorption of calcium. It has been found that those individuals with a vitamin D deficiency were more like to have back pain which often limited their daily activities. As well, they were also more likely to have bone pain through out their bodies, such as in their legs and joints. A deficiency in this vitamin will not only cause bone pain, but it can also cause bone loss since it not only helps with calcium absorption, but also bone metabolism. This can lead to lower bone mineral density. 4. Vitamin D deficiency may also negatively effect our mood. Feelings of depression may be a sign of vitamin D deficiency. This has often been linked to older adults. By being deficient in this vitamin, it may also cause seasonal depression during the colder months, when exposure to sunlight is limited. Depression and all mental health symptoms are complex and should be discussed with your medical practitioner to determine its exact cause and remedy. 5. Lastly, another sign and symptom of vitamin D deficiency may be hair loss. When hair loss is severe, this can be the result of nutrient deficiency. Hair loss may be a sign of vitamin D deficiency in female-patten hair loss. As well, there have been links found between low levels of vitamin D and alopecia areata, and low levels of this vitamin may be a risk factor for developing this autoimmune disease which can effect hair loss. Be sure to discuss any of the above signs and symptoms with your medical practitioner to determine their exact cause and also to discuss the correct amount of vitamin D you should be taking daily to support your health. For more info: https://draxe.com/vitamin-d-deficiency-symptoms/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Apr-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=vitaminddeficiency In this video I’m going to talk about the benefits of vitamin D as well as symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. In women who have type 2 diabetes and show signs of depression, vitamin D supplements significantly lowered blood pressure and improved their moods, according to a pilot study at Loyola University Chicago Niehoff School of Nursing. Vitamin D even helped the women lose a few pounds. The study was presented at the American Diabetes Association 73rd Scientific Sessions in Chicago. "Vitamin D supplementation potentially is an easy and cost-effective therapy, with minimal side effects," said Sue M. Penckofer, PhD, RN, lead author of the study and a professor in the Niehoff School of Nursing. "Larger, randomized controlled trials are needed to determine the impact of vitamin D supplementation on depression and major cardiovascular risk factors among women with Type 2 diabetes."

Hi I Am Dr Aneek Gupta Letting the sun down on your body feels great doesn’t it? You may not even know why you feel so good when you are out on the perfect Morning sunny day. One of the reasons is that sunshine provides our bodies with vitamin D. This vitamin is important for many reasons, one of which is improving our overall mood. Ever notice how everyone seems to be down on a rainy day? Even with just a day of gloom, our vitamin D levels can go down and cause us to feel sad. Symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency The only way to truly find out if you are vitamin D deficient is to have blood work completed. However, there are some signs that you can look for to see if you should have your vitamin D levels tested. As mentioned already, vitamin D can affect your mood. If you are feeling sad all of the time and ultimately depressed, you may need some vitamin D. Serotonin, which is the hormone in the brain that is associated with elevating your mood will rise when exposed to bright lights. Serotonin levels fall with less exposure to the sun. Another sign that you may be vitamin D deficient is aches in your bones. Many people go to their doctor for these pains, especially if they are combined with fatigue. Often times a misdiagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia is given. If you have aches and pains make sure that your doctor tests your blood for vitamin D deficiency before accepting a diagnosis of one of the above. If you sweat a lot around your head, you may need more vitamin D. A sweaty head is one of the first signs that doctors look for when considering vitamin D deficiency. Paediatricians will often ask new mothers if their new-borns have a sweaty head as this is an early sign that they may need more vitamin D. One final sign that you may need to have your vitamin D levels is if you have trouble with your stomach. If you have any type of gastrointestinal condition that affects how your body absorbs fat, you may struggle absorbing vitamin D as well. People who are over the age of 50 and those who have darker skin are more likely to be vitamin D deficient. Health Benefits of Vitamin D Vitamin D offers us many health benefits. Individuals who have normal amounts of vitamin D are less likely to develop some forms of cancer including breast cancer in women. In addition, it helps to fight off infections such as the flu and colds as it helps enhance your immune system. Vitamin D can also reduce the risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of having a stroke. If you think that you may have a vitamin D deficiency, you should visit your doctor to be tested. If you find out you are deficient, make sure that you get out into the sunshine more often as this is the best way to boost levels. Thanks For Your Patience Listening Regards Dr Aneek Gupta

In this video I talk about vitamin d. Vitamin d is a fat soluble vitamin and comes primarily from the sun. The sun has always been the number one source of vitamin d. When the sun hits our skin it takes on a new form of vitamin d. That is vitamin d3. This is a hormonal response. It is then stored in our fat until we need it. Vitamin is vital for bone health. It boosts calcium absorption into the bones as well as improving mood, decreasing mortality risk and improving muscle function and mood. Absorption rates depend on a number of factors, namely; skin colour, age, body surface area, weight, location (latitude) etc. There are two types of vitamin d. Vitamin d2 and d3. D2 is always vegan and it comes from plants e.g. mushrooms. Traces of vitamin d3 can be found in meat, dairy and eggs, but the baggage that comes with animal products should be avoided at all costs e.g. cholesterol, saturated fat, hormones, trans fats, protein etc. It is recommended to get 2000 IU of vitamin d3 everyday for the general population. Heavier people should take between 2000 - 3000 IU/day and older adults should get the same if not more. Is it possible to get enough vitamin d from the sun? Yes, but with excess sun exposure comes an increased risk of developing skin cancer, so use sparingly. It is beneficial to get vitamin d3 from supplements. You can supplement with lanolin (derives from sheep wool) or supplement with lichen based products (bacteria). I supplement with lichen at a dosage of 2000 IU/day. It doesn't really exist. But, what I'm finding through a lot of research recently is that Vitamin D3 might be as close as we can get to something that can reduce belly fat as anything that's out there. Let me explain how this works because honestly it's pretty fascinating. What Vitamin D is, first and foremost is a fat soluble Vitamin. It's a fat soluble Vitamin that helps regulate mood, it can help regulate metabolism and most importantly it regulates where calcium goes in the body. But, because it's fat soluble it means that it's stored in the fat cell. Start thinking about this: if you have an excess amount of fat or if you're overweight that means that most of the Vitamin D that you consume, even if you're taking a supplement, is going to get sequestered into those fat cells and it's going to stay there meaning you have less bio actively available Vitamin D3 to do the cool things that I'm about to explain. Let's talk about how Vitamin D3 actually burns fat. The first method is by increasing something called Leptin. Have you ever eaten food before and gotten full? If you haven't you're probably not human. Honestly, what happens is leptin signals your brain that you're full. When you eat a lot of food you have the production of Leptin, signals your brain that you're full and you stop eating. Problem is that without Vitamin D3, Leptin levels don't generally increase that much. If you have enough D3 your brain can signal and your brain can be told you need to stop eating. It's that simple. Low levels of Vitamin D3 those Leptin levels don't get too high and you can keep eating, making it very easy to overeat. Remember what I said about the Vitamin D3 getting stored in fat cells? Think about this, if you already are low in D3 and then you eat and you don't have enough Leptin so you keep eating more then you're going to develop more fat cells, which means you're going to hold onto more Vitamin D in the fat cells and more and more to the point where you have this snowball effect where you continue to store fat. Are you one of those people that have just looked in the mirror and say how did this happen to me? Honestly, I was one of those people seven or eight years ago. The other way that Vitamin D3 is proving to potentially be a good belly fat burner is through the modulation of the parathyroid and calcitriol hormones. The Parathyroid is a small set of glands around the thyroid in our throat and basically when they produce parathyroid or they produce calcitriol, we have a rapid increase in how our body stores fat. It tends to want to store it more. If we have enough Vitamin D3 the parathyroid and calcitriol hormones aren't quite as crazy. They're not going quite as haywire, which means your body slowly stores and slowly metabolizes fat versus doing it rapidly, making it where you look in the mirror and feel like it happened overnight. Those are the two main reasons that Vitamin D3 is starting to play a big role in belly fat. This wouldn't be a traditional video of mine if I didn't at least reference one peer reviewed, double blind placebo study. One study took 218 women. These 218 women they gave a strict diet and exercise program to and they asked them to follow it for a year. Then they took half of these women and they gave them Vitamin D. The other half of the women they gave a placebo. After one year of time, it was found that the women that took the Vitamin D had on average seven pounds more weight loss than those that didn't take the Vitamin D. It doesn't sound like much but just by adding Vitamin D it's pretty dang interesting. Then, there's one other study. There is another study that found that those that were taking Vitamin D3 had a better waist to hip ration than those that were not. Fights disease Reduces depression Boosts weight lossVitamin D deficiency Food sources How much you need Sunshine vitamin Vitamin D is called the “sunshine vitamin” because it’s produced in your skin in response to sunlight. It’s a fat-soluble vitamin in a family of compounds that includes vitamins D-1, D-2, and D-3. Your body produces vitamin D naturally when it’s directly exposed to sunlight. You can also get it through certain foods and supplements to ensure adequate levels of the vitamin in your blood. Vitamin D has several important functions. Perhaps the most vital are regulating the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, and facilitating normal immune system function. Getting a sufficient amount of vitamin D is important for normal growth and development of bones and teeth, as well as improved resistance against certain diseases. If your body doesn’t get enough vitamin D, you’re at risk of developing bone abnormalities such as soft bones (osteomalacia) or fragile bones (osteoporosis). Here are three more surprising benefits of vitamin D. 1. Vitamin D fights disease In addition to its primary benefits, research suggests that vitamin D may also play a role in: reducing your risk of multiple sclerosis, according to a 2006 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Associationdecreasing your chance of developing heart disease, according to findings published in Circulationhelping to reduce your likelihood of developing the flu, according to 2010 research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2. Vitamin D reduces depression Research has shown that vitamin D might play an important role in regulating mood and warding off depression. In one study, scientists found that people with depression who received vitamin D supplements noticed an improvement in their symptoms. In another study of people with fibromyalgia, researchers found vitamin D deficiency was more common in those who were also experiencing anxiety and depression. 3. Vitamin D boosts weight loss Consider adding vitamin D supplements to your diet if you’re trying to lose weight or prevent heart disease. You can find a great selection of vitamin D supplements In one study, people taking a daily calcium and vitamin D supplement were able to lose more weight than subjects taking a placebo supplement. The scientists said the extra calcium and vitamin D had an appetite-suppressing effect. In another study, overweight people who took a daily vitamin D supplement improved their heart disease risk markers. Beware of D-ficiency Many factors can affect your ability to get sufficient amounts of vitamin D through the sun alone. These factors include: Being in an area with high pollutionUsing sunscreenSpending more time indoorsLiving in big cities where buildings block sunlightHaving darker skin. (The higher the levels of melanin, the less vitamin D the skin can absorb.) These factors contribute to vitamin D deficiency in an increasing number of people. That’s why it’s important to get some of your vitamin D from sources besides sunlight. The symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency in adults include: tiredness, aches and pains, and a general sense of not feeling wellsevere bone or muscle pain or weakness that may cause difficulty climbing stairs or getting up from the floor or a low chair, or cause you to walk with a waddling gaitstress fractures, especially in your legs, pelvis, and hips Doctors can diagnose a vitamin D deficiency by performing a simple blood test. If you have a deficiency, your doctor may order X-rays to check the strength of your bones. If you’re diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency, your doctor will likely recommend you take daily vitamin D supplements. If you have a severe deficiency, they may instead recommend high-dose vitamin D tablets or liquids. You should also make sure to get vitamin D through sunlight and the foods you eat. Food sources of vitamin D Few foods contain vitamin D naturally. Because of this, some foods are fortified. This means that vitamin D has been added. Foods that contain vitamin D include: salmonsardinesegg yolkshrimpmilk (fortified)cereal (fortified)yogurt (fortified)orange juice (fortified) It can be hard to get enough vitamin D each day through sun exposure and food alone, so taking vitamin D supplements can help. How much do you need? There has been some controversy over the amount of vitamin D needed for healthy functioning. Recent research indicates that you need more vitamin D than was once thought. Normal blood serum levels range from 50 to 100 micrograms per deciliter. Depending on your blood level, you may need more vitamin D. Dr. Venkata seshaiah Watch And Subscribe To The Channel. Lacking any of these vitamins will definitely have a negative effect on your moods. For example, B vitamins are essential to the body's brain and nerve functioning, so you definitely want to make sure you're getting enough of these vitamins in order to feel mentally and physically balanced. Part of why many people are vitamin deficient is because they're eating mostly processed, refined foods, which actually deplete the nutrients and vitamins from your body. I see a lot of my clients go on antidepressants without even looking at what they're eating. Often by just including more fresh, healthy, nutrient-rich foods, they find that their energy increases and their moods will stabilize. Foods like caffeine and sugar are considered non nutritional forms of energy, and these non-nutritional forms of energy actually deplete the vitamins and nutrients from your body. So you want to make sure you're getting enough vitamins and nutrients so you don't experience the symptoms of vitamin deficiency. If you're having a hard time getting the vitamins you need from food, it's a good idea to consider taking vitamin supplements, that way you make sure you get everything you need.

Be sure to Subscribe for 3x Videos Per Week! http://www.ThomasDeLauer.com 4 Honest Ways to Naturally Increase Your Testosterone: Thomas DeLauer I'm gonna make this one really, really quick. Talking about testosterone and four quick ways that you could boost it, particularly surrounding the world of sleep. I'm gonna break it down super, super simple, super, super fast, not like my normal videos. By the way, if you like this video, if you like these quick videos, make sure you hit that like button down below the video so that I know, which direction I wanna go with some of my videos. Okay, number one, more weight training the right way. The thing is, is exercise itself produces testosterone, helps hormones out, and contrary to popular belief, but what a lot of people will tell you, it's not just a matter of weight training only. Cardio itself also boosts testosterone, but when it comes to weight training, we wanna be focusing on heavier compound movements. I'm talking about dead lifts, I'm talking about bench press, I'm talking about squats, simply because it causes a secretion of testosterone later on down the line because of the recovery. Now, here's something kind of interesting. What actually happens is right after your weight training, your testosterone levels plummet. A lot of people will tell you that testosterone levels increase right after you workout, wrong. They decrease for quite some time. There's one study that took a group of participants over the course of four weeks, they had them implement heavyweight training. Well, 40% increase in testosterone after four weeks of introducing heavy compound movements, 40%, that's huge. Additionally, if cardio's your game, do some high intensity interval training. We're talking like 90 seconds on, one minute off. That's the best kind of ratio. The next way that you can boost your T, make sure you're getting your vitamin D, whether you're getting that out in the sunlight, or you're supplementing it. You see, vitamin D has a strong corelation with our hormone values because it is a hormone. Studies have shown that people that take about 3,000 iu's of vitamin D per day, end up with 25% higher testosterone levels. Now, all the mechanism is kind of not known, except for the fact that vitamin D does have somewhat of an adipogenic balancing effect on all of our hormones. The next one, intermittent fasting. Why? Simply because intermittent fasting works on something called leptin. Leptin is a hormone that is involved in the hunger process of our body, so when we eat, leptin is produced. Leptin also helps us burn some fat. When we down regulate leptin, we can actually allow our bodies to burn more fat, but also boost a little bit of testosterone. Intermittent fasting causes a decrease in body fat, and there's also direct corelation between lower body fat and higher T levels. It constantly exponentially grows from there. Then lastly, is sleep. The big one that I talked about at the very beginning. Studies are now showing that if you are lacking sleep, you could be suffering from a 60% loss of testosterone. Those that got four hours of sleep verses eight hours of sleep, the ones that got four hours had 60% less testosterone than those that got eight. So yeah, you wouldn't think that sleep plays such a big role. Make sure you're getting that sleep, make sure you're getting those fasting days in now and then, make sure that you're focusing on your vitamin D and your sunlight, and also make sure you are lifting heavy. As always, keep it locked in here on my videos and I will see you on the next one.

Testosterone boosting herbs such as tribulus, maca, longjack and avena sativa may be useful for increasing libido, but not for bodybuilding and fitness purposes. The one thing you can do, however, is use specific supplements that will optimize your testosterone levels if they are currently at a slightly below normal range. The first 2 natural "testosterone boosters" that might be of use in a situation like this are magnesium (200-400mg daily) and zinc (20-30mg). These minerals are drained from the body through sweat and play an important role in maintaining proper testosterone balance. Deficiencies are common in hard-training lifters, and supplementation can bring them back to the proper level. The second testosterone boosting vitamin is Vitamin D3 at 2000-5000IU per day. Unless you live in a very warm climate and spend multiple hours a day outside in the sun, there's a very good chance that your vitamin D levels will not be at the proper range. This can negatively impact testosterone production which may impact muscle growth and fat loss. Vitamin D supplementation may also help out when it comes to maintaining balanced mood and energy levels. Although these 3 testosterone increasing supplements will not take you to an above normal range, they will help to optimize your natural test levels if they have been lowered as a result of hard-training and lifestyle factors. You can either go with a high potency multivitamin or just purchase all 3 items separately.
