Men try to make it to the gym every so often and play a baseball or basketball game on nice weekends. This is a very good start, but it’s the foods you eat and the ones you skip that really impact your health. Heart-healthy Brazil nuts are also recommended, but men should look out for the raw varieties, and keep servings small, to reap maximum health benefits. These nuts are rich in selenium, which plays a role in reproductive health, in addition to boosting immune health and protecting against free radical damage. Organic tomatoes are another important food for men, thanks to their high lycopene content. This acts as an antioxidant, which can help prevent damage from disease-causing free radicals, and it has also been linked to prostate health. It is recommended that men eat eggs, because they are a source of a number of important vitamins and minerals. Their high protein content makes them good for weight loss. Boiled eggs are the best choice for a nutritious snack. Red peppers also make the list on account of their impressive vitamin C content; just half of one red pepper will give you more than 200 percent of the recommended daily intake! What’s the Best Way to Blow Your Nose? When a cold strikes, nose blowing is often the easiest and fastest way to relieve symptoms. But people who blow with hurricane force can prolong their suffering. One expert, Neil Schachter, medical director of the Respiratory Care Department at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital, explains how to recognize an improper nose blow. The Nose Knows A typical nose blow can generate 10 times as much pressure as sneezing or coughing, says Dr. Schachter, citing research conducted at the University of Virginia. The greater the pressure, the more likely it is that some mucus will shoot into the inflamed and narrowed drainage passageways of your sinuses and spread the infection. There isn’t a simple answer to the question, “how hard is too hard?” However, Dr. Schachter says, if you don’t feel any pressure in your sinuses before you blow and then feel it afterward, you have blown too hard. And beware of a crackling sound in your ears. “That’s excess mucus being blown back into the middle ear,” he says. Before blowing, especially when mucus is compacted in the nasal passages, Dr. Schachter recommends moistening the nasal passages with a saline spray or mist. This is especially important in the morning, since the nasal passages dry out during sleep. Simply squirt, give the mist a minute to settle and work, and then blow gently, one nostril at a time, Dr. Schachter says. He doesn’t see any added benefit in using a neti pot, a nasal-irrigation tool that floods the sinuses with water and, he says, can cause irritation. An Ounce of Prevention The best practice is to not get a cold in the first place, says Dr. Schachter, author of the “The Good Doctor’s Guide to Colds and Flu.” His number one helper is hand sanitizer containing alcohol. If there is a cold virus going around your office, it will linger on surfaces and get on your hands, he says. Sanitizer will help kill it. Still, hand sanitizer shouldn’t replace soap and water, which scrubs away dirt that can shield bacteria from the alcohol. If you catch a cold, Dr. Schachter recommends controlling symptoms with antihistamines rather than decongestants, which can increase blood pressure. Using nasal-spray decongestants can also have a rebound effect: After working for several days, the medication may make your symptoms worse, he says. Dr. Schachter says he also uses zinc lozenges at the first sign of a cold. He won’t take more than one or two a day and doesn’t advise using them as a regular preventive supplement because there is evidence that long-term zinc use can irritate the stomach and harm one’s sense of smell and taste. He says 500 milligrams of vitamin C might also reduce symptoms with fewer possible side effects, but can also irritate the stomach. He recommends two homemade cold remedies. The first, Dr. Schachter learned from his father, who was also a physician: warm tea with honey and a shot of liquor, such as schnapps. A vitamin combo has halted brain cell loss in extensive studies on mice. The combination is based on a blend of 30 vitamins and minerals widely available in health food stores – including common ingredients such as vitamins B, C and D, folic acid, green tea extract, and cod liver oil. 'We know this because mice experience the same basic cell mechanisms that contribute to neuro-degeneration that humans do. All species, in fact. There is a commonality among us all.' Mice were first tested on the supplement combo. After 22 months – the equivalent of 70 to 80 years of age in humans, the untreated mice had experienced a 50% decline in movement and become hunchbacked, arthritic and thin. The treated mice were acting like they were still teenagers, rather than frail and elderly. When the scientists analyzed their mitochondria in their brains, they found fewer “free radicals”, which are believed to cause aging. The combination was then tried on mice who had lost mere then half their brain cells – the human equivalent of severe Alzheimer’s disease. But after several months of treatment, their improvement was remarkable. It completely reversed the severe brain cell loss and eliminated the Alzheimer’s-like symptoms. GMO stands for “genetically modified organism” which includes plant food like fruits and vegetables to livestock like chicken and cattle to even salmon. When something counts as a “GMO” that means scientists genetically engineered it. With all the anti-GMO sentiment out there, as far as science journals and reports have found, there is no evidence to show GMO foods were less safe than non GMO foods. 8. The Sun Burns We characterize the sun as being this huge ball of fire. That’s not technically wrong, we’re also here to tell you that technically the sun is not burning. The heat generated by the sun is not a chemical reaction, which is what burning is. Instead, the light of the sun comes from a nuclear reaction, so really the sun glows and doesn’t “burn.” 7. Stock Up On That Vitamin C When you start feeling like you’re getting a cold, people tell you to stock up on that vitamin C and consume as much as you can so that you can prevent or maybe even cure your cold. That slice of orange or Emergen C or even vitamin C supplements are a false sense of security. Huge doses of vitamin C doesn’t really do much to help your apparent cold. The immune system does benefit from it, but it doesn’t gain superpowers because you drank a bunch of orange juice. 6. It does sound weird to say bananas grow on herbs, so we don’t blame whoever referred to it as otherwise. The banana plant does not have woody tissue and just grows on a stem, not a tree trunk. Bananas do grow on plants that can measure up to 30 feet high, so it can be as tall as a tree, yet it seems we are slaves to technicalities and details. 3. Go On A Juice Cleanse Nope, don’t do that. Contrary to the popular belief about 5 years ago that you should juice cleanse as a way to detox, health experts advice the opposite. The trend of “juicing” got popular as a way not only to rid your body of toxins, but to also lose weight. Don’t get mystified by all the nutrients from fruit you think you’re gaining, however. You’re essentially starving yourself if you only drink juice for however long. By juicing a fruit, also remove the fiber you would have gotten if you just ate it. Juice itself is fine to drink and can be healthy, but you miss out on a lot of things you would get from the whole fruit. When you juice, you get more of just flavor, water, and sugar. 2. Into The Black Hole Wait a minute, you can’t really go in a black hole. Black holes aren’t even really wholes. Never Throw Away Lemon Peels, This Is How To Reuse Them Again

Next time you eat an orange or a grapefruit, or squeeze a lemon or a lime, save the peels! There are so many ways to use these peels. Lemon peel contains 5-10 times more vitamins than the juice itself, including vitamins C, A, beta-caroten, calcium, magnesium and potassium. This is what you can do with your lemon peels. 1.Coffee Cup Stain Remover. Put some lemon peel into a coffee stained mug, add some warm water and allow to sit for a few hours. Pour away and then scrub and the coffee stains should disappear! 2.Microwave Cleaner. This is a really simple natural microwave cleaner. Add some lemon peels to a microwave safe bowl filled halfway with water. Heat the water on full power in the microwave for five minutes giving it time to boil and the steam to condense inside the microwave. Safely remove the bowl and wipe away the residue with a towel. 3.Clean your tea kettle or coffee pot. To clean mineral deposits in your tea kettle: Fill the kettle with water and add a handful of thin slices of lemon peel. Bring it to a boil then turn off the heat. Let is sit for an hour, drain, and rinse well. 4.Citrus Zest. Using a fine grater or zester grate the citrus peels to create a fine zest. This zest can be used to add flavor to all sorts of dishes, and is great for use in baking. You can even freeze it to keep for later. 5.Lemon Olive Oil. This is a super simple way to add citrusy flavor to olive oil. Simply add 2-3 tablespoons of finely grated lemon zest to a cup of extra virgin olive oil, place in a glass jar and allow to stand for two weeks, shaking occasionally. Pour the oil into a strainer and discard the zest and you’ll be left with delicious lemon flavored oil. 6.Deodorize the garbage disposal. Use lemon peels to deodorize the garbage disposal and bring that amazing citrus smell to your kitchen. Fake lemon cleaners have nothing on the real thing. Simply put a peel or two down the disposal, flip the switch on with the water running, and done. 7.Make a scented humidifier. If your home suffers from dry heat in the winter, you can put lemon peels in a pot of water and simmer on the lowest stove-top setting to humidify and scent the air. 8.Citrus Vinegar Cleaner. Vinegar is an incredible natural cleaner but has a pungent smell that not many people like. Infusing citrus peels in the vinegar gives a fresh aroma that masks the nasty smell and adds extra cleaning properties!  9.Trash Can Freshener. Throw some lemon peels into your trash can to kill bad odors and freshen up. And 10.Freshen your Fridge. Place a lemon peel or two inside your fridge to absorb smells and bring a bright citrus scent inside your fridge. Lemons have amazing benefits so why not grow some lemons. What is vitamin B12, where do you get it and what depletes it? What are the best sources of vitamin B12? If you got a blood test and they told you your B12 was low, it doesn’t mean anything. Serum B12 levels do not reflect true B12 levels since most B12 in the body is stored in the liver and blood tests do not determine stored B12 levels.  B12 is stored in the body for years and years and the odds are that in that time, you will accumulate more B12. thehealthylife.com Vitamin B12 is basically bacteria poop. In the natural world, (the way we were designed to live), you would pull a carrot out of the ground, brush it off and eat it. There would be little bits of dirt and millions of microscopic organisms all over that carrot. B12! Do you actually think in the 5-7 years B12 stays in your body, you are not going to be exposed to some dirt and bacteria? Heck, even your own gut bacteria, (your probiotics) produce some B12. They say vegetarians and vegans need to supplement B12 because they don’t eat meat. That’s another joke. 90 percent of America is meat eaters and 60 percent of America is deficient in B12, … so how come half the meat eaters are low in B12? Well lets look at why meat eaters sometimes have more B12. It’s not rocket science. Meat is rotting flesh. There’s a lot of nasty bacteria in meat. The minute anything is killed- plant or animal, it starts to decay. Decaying meat requires more aggressive and dangerous bacteria than plants. If you lived in nature only eating plants, you’d be getting more than enough B12. There’s even some B12 in my green formula. Seaweed is a great source of B12. Those of you who get my Sea Moss, haha- what an experience when you open that bag huh? All dirty and smelly. What a nasty fishy smell. That’s what stuff is like when you take it fresh right out of the ocean. It’s FULL of B12. Even after washing and soaking it multiple times, there is still B12 stuck in the tiny pores. There’s B12 in nutritional yeast, even kale and farm produce that still has some dirt stuck in the cracks. Remember also, you have 5 pounds of beneficial bacteria in your gut which also produces some B12. You can feed them and make them stronger by eating more fiber- that's what they love to eat. Then there’s fermented and cultured foods- a GREAT source of B12. Every little bit adds up. And since it stays in your body for years, odds are you are getting enough B12. Now it’s possible that you may actually be low in B12. So the REAL question isn’t “where do I get B12”,…it should be “what’s robbing me of B12 and how can I stop it?” The answer to all of your health issues should not be “what do I take” but “what do I STOP doing that’s causing the problem in the first place”, otherwise you are simply trying to patch holes in a sinking ship. The first place to look is your stomach. B12 is acid dependent for absorption. Older people have B12 issues not because they don’t have enough B12 in their body, but because it can’t ABSORB properly because stomach acidity declines with age. Bread, bagels and other wheat products absorb stomach acid like a sponge. They also turn into simple sugars which feeds candida yeast and H Pylori which radically deplete stomach acid. Antacids, baking soda and alkaline water cancels out stomach acid. Most people have low stomach acid as a result from not knowing what and how to eat.  Almost everybody, even raw foodists are sugar addicts and they choose what to eat based on how it tastes, not what they really need, resulting in a body that doesn't work right. Ok, anyway, if you want B12 to absorb, you need strong stomach acid for for that you need to cut down on bread and sugar and start adding more bitter things to your diet. You can rebuild stomach acid by using more acids in your diet like apple cider vinegar, lemon etc, and also sea salt, B-complex vitamins and 50 mg zinc with meals, plus bitter greens like arugula, endives, watercress etc and also my liver formula.  Do NOT drink alkaline water! This speeds up the whole mess of weakening stomach acid, nutrient absorption, lower B12 etc. Another thing that lowers stomach acid is adrenal burnout, the biggest factors being stress and stimulants- coffee, energy drinks, sugar, stuff like that. You can strengthen your adrenals with adaptogenic herbs like licorice root, ashwagandha, schizandra berry, astragalus, jiaogulan, nettle leaf and alma berry. As B12 pills go, sublingual methylcobalamin is the kind you want, not cyanocobalamin. Sure you can pop a B12 pill. But listen to what I’m saying. Herbs and essential oils both have their place in natural health, but is one better than the other? Well, it really all depends. We have to consider the specific health need, the person affected, and even what we have available at the time. Essential oils are the concentrated essence of the plant. Essential Oils are distilled and the whole plant constituents are not present, just the oils. A good comparison for this is the process of extracting vitamin C from an apple. Scientist discovered vitamin C was good for us so they isolated the compound and extracted it and put it in a pill. They failed to realize that the other 10,000 compounds and constituents of that apple help make the vitamin C bio-available to our bodies. In the last decade the herb and essential oils movements have grown enormously. Essential oil sales alone were in the billions last year and estimated to grow to over eleven billion by 2020. Now we have a new era of people who want to reconnect with Mother Nature and holistic practices. Essential oils are able to work through our sense of smell which has an incredibly unique ability to influence our brains in ways that other senses can’t. One of the reasons there is still some mystery around aromatherapy is because there is much to yet be discovered about our sense of smell and how it influences the brain! It’s quite fascinating. Recent studies confirm what herbalists and aromatherapists have long known – plant-derived scents can soothe and heal. And, each plant has its own distinctive scent with its own healing properties. For instance, one study found that estragole, a compound found in fennel, tarragon and basil, is “active on nerves” and could ease back pain and inhibit inflammation of the sciatica nerve, the longest nerve of the body which runs from the back down the leg. In choosing between herbs and essential oils, it is good to research the benefits of both for the specific condition or use. The internal use of herbs and herbal formulas is well-established in tradition and in research. Also what is unique about herbs is that, when working with them, it's best to build a relationship with the herbs in their environment and where they grow. You cannot get that by opening a bottle of essential oil. In my medicine cabinet I have at least 20 different essential oils. However, I have found that I use 6 more often than the others. They include peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree, rosemary and my most favorite orange essential oil. I will share a separate video on how these 6 oils work for most of my families ailments. The assortment of herbs that I have is even greater than the essential oils. Some I grow fresh in my garden and others are dried. If I absolutely had to pick, I would likely have to come down on the side of herbs because of their versatility and greater safety net. But the great news is that I don’t have to pick, and neither do you! We can use both, enjoy both, and appreciate the benefits that both herbs and essential oils offer to natural health. Day 3 of flu. I decided to get to the supermarket, buy some healthy shit with the idea in mind of packing tons of vitamins within a smoothie. In the afternoon I had the first one with vitamin C as the main component because it's a booster for the immune system. This is what I added: - 2 tablespoons of lemon juice - 1 orange - 1 stalk of celery (not extremely rich in vitamin C but I had it around) - 50 g of brazilian nuts (for extra calories) - some frozen broccoli - some kale - some ginger - cayenne pepper I never tasted ginger in my life before and wasn't expecting the smoothie to have THAT taste. Garlic comes from the plant Allium sativum which is latin for "cultivated bulb". It has been used by humans for thousands of years and originated in Asia.
