HOW TO TREAT SWELLING

06:38
HOW TO TREAT SWELLING Swelling can occur as the result of an injury, pregnancy, and other medical conditions. Left untreated, swelling can become frustrating and even painful. PART1, TREATING SWELLING CAUSED BY INJURY 1)REST THE SWOLLEN AREA. Whether your body is swollen from an injury or poor circulation, it is best to allow the swollen area a bit of time to rest. If you have a swollen foot or ankle, try not to use it in a strenuous way for at least a few days, until the swelling goes down. • If you have an injured foot, consider using crutches or a cane to take the pressure off the swollen area. • If you have a swollen arm caused by an injury, use the other arm to perform tasks, or ask for help from someone else. 2)ELEVATE THE SWOLLEN BODY PART. Any time you are sitting or lying down, prop up the swollen area on pillows, above the level of your heart. This prevents blood from collecting in the swollen area and aids in circulation. • Use a sling to keep your arm elevated if necessary. • If the swelling is severe, make a point of sitting down and elevating the swollen body part for a few hours. 3)APPLY A COLD COMPACT. High temperatures will make swelling worse, so do your swelling a favor by applying a cold compact. Avoid applying ice directly to the skin, but wrap an ice pack in a towel and apply to the swollen area. Do this for 15 minutes at a time, several times a day. 4)TAKE MEDICATION. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are medications that decrease pain and swelling. The most common variants are ibuprofen (common brands include Motrin and Advil) and naproxen (Aleve). Note that acetaminophen (Tylenol) is not an NSAID and will not reduce swelling. Talk to your doctor about what the best medication for your situation may be. PART2 TREATING GENERAL SWELLING 1)PERFORM LOW-IMPACT EXERCISE. Although you do want to rest the swollen area, refraining from movement for extended periods reduces circulation and will eventually make your swelling worse. Get up and walk around occasionally during your regular work day, and include low impact exercise in your weekly routine. These may include yoga, swimming, and talking walks. • If you sit at a desk all day, try mixing it up by using a standing desk sometimes. If that's not an option, make a point of getting up to walk around the office every hour or so. • When you are sitting, change positions often and keep your feet slightly elevated whenever possible. 2)MINIMIZE YOUR SODIUM INTAKE. High levels of sodium contribute to swelling, so avoid consuming foods with lots of sodium. In addition, drink lots of water to flush the salt from your system. • To increase the cleansing property of your water, try adding cucumber and lemon slices - both natural anti-inflammatories. • Whenever possible, choose water over beverages that contain sodium. Even sweet beverages often have high levels of sodium. 3)ADJUST YOUR CLOTHING. Tight clothing above your swollen areas can further restrict blood flow, which will worsen your swelling. Avoid wearing tight clothes (especially nylon stockings or garters), and try wearing supportive swelling stockings instead. 4)TAKE MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENTS. If you suffer from a magnesium deficiency, your swelling may be worsened as a result. Purchase magnesium supplements from a local health foods store and take 250mg daily. 5)SOAK THE AREA IN TONIC WATER. The bubbles and quinine in tonic water can help to limit your swelling. Pour cold (or lukewarm, if you can’t handle cold) tonic water into a dish and soak your swollen areas for 15-20 minutes once daily. ______________________________________________________________ cure swelling, how to cure swelling, natural methods to cure swelling, cure swelling with natural methods, baba ramdev yoga, swelling, natural methods, cure swelling feet, remove swelling feet, swelling treatment, swelling treatment in hindi, swelling treatment cold or hot, swelling treatment in homeopathy, swelling treatment in ayurveda, swelling treatment face ________________________________________________________________ Google Plus- https://plus.google.com/u/0/115796018169736708219 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Self-Health-Care-555606237897236/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/selfhealthcare2 Reddit- https://www.reddit.com/user/bkrashid/ Blog - https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3204012849514247540#allposts Pinterest- https://www.pinterest.com/selfhealthcareb/self-health-care/ Intro Video music - http://topfreeintro.com/ Voice : http://www.fromtexttospeech.com/ Watch More :Sel Health Care Videos_ Subscribe - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-SozdSnKgErDMj_B0I2IVQ Article Credit :http://www.wikihow.com/Treat-Swelling - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I had a patient come see me in my office a few days ago. He had been taking 2400 mg of ibuprofen every day for months to try to get over an ankle injury. That amount of medication might be high for most of us, but we often use these medicines to try to decrease pain and swelling after an injury. When can taking these medications actually be harmful? And what should we do instead? Since we can buy medications like ibuprofen or naproxen over the counter, we might assume that they’re completely safe. Generally athletic people don’t have problems taking them occasionally for minor injuries, but they should take some simple precautions. Please remember, while I appreciate your questions, I cannot and will not offer specific medical advice by email, online, on my show, or in the comments at the end of these posts. 7 Symptoms of Liver Damage

08:25
http://www.activebeat.com liver damage symptoms liver disease 1. Swollen Abdomen Cirrhosis, the serious progression of liver disease, causes fluid build-up in the abdomen (a condition referred to as ascites), as levels of albumin and proteins in the blood and fluid are retained. This may actually make the patient appear pregnant. While ascites can be caused by numerous medical conditions, cirrhosis of the liver is the single most common. Sometimes, swelling can also take place in the ankles, as accumulated fluid is drawn down into the body by the forces of gravity. While ascites can occur in sudden-onset or acute liver disease, it occurs much more frequently in chronic cases. It can be treated with diuretics and a reduced-sodium diet, and in severe cases, the fluid can be drained through a needle inserted into the stomach. However, ascites may not respond to frontline treatments, and if not, more drastic measures, such the insertion of a shunt or a liver transplant, may be necessary. 2. Jaundice Discolored skin and eyes that take on a yellowish hue is symptomatic of liver damage. This yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes results as bilirubin (a bile pigment) builds-up in the blood and is unable to be eliminated as waste from the body. Jaundice also causes dark-colored urine and light-colored stools, and the high bilirubin levels it causes can also trigger difficult-to-relieve full-body itching. In extremely severe cases, jaundice can also cause a loss of brain function. In older patients, this is often misdiagnosed as a dementia-related disorder. Treating liver disease-related jaundice depends on successfully addressing the underlying medical condition. While severely damaged livers will never fully regenerate, jaundice and its related symptoms will diminish in intensity as liver function improves. However, it’s important to remember that liver disease isn’t cured when jaundice disappears; patients who recover from severe liver damage must still be very careful to maintain better health. 3. Abdominal Tenderness Abdominal pain, particularly in the upper right corner of the abdomen, or to the lower right portion of the rib cage, is a telling sign of liver damage. This pain may or may not be accompanied by swelling in the abdomen, or ascites. Patients usually characterize it as a persistent throbbing or stabbing pain which can only be temporarily relieved by medications. In fact, improper use of medications can be part of the reason you’re experiencing abdominal pain symptoms. It’s important to remember that liver disease can be caused by long-term overuse of certain over-the-counter and prescription medications, including acetaminophen and narcotic-acetaminophen combinations. These medications may cause upset stomach as a general side effect, and their damaging attributes can be amplified if you drink alcohol while using them. The upset stomach side effects can snowball over the long term as liver damage appears. Eventually, this pain will become severe enough for patients to seek medical attention. 4. Urine Changes Urine may become dark yellow in color due to increased levels of bilirubin in the body’s bloodstream, which the damaged liver is unable to eliminate via excretion through the kidneys. Bilirubin is a bodily fluid which is produced through the natural breakdown of bile, and is normally eliminated through bile and urine. It is believed to function as a cellular-level antioxidant, but excessive amounts can lead to toxicity. Uncontrolled reflexes and eye movements, seizures, and neurological impairments can all result from chronically high bilirubin levels. Dark urine can be caused by many different factors, and it isn’t something to be alarmed about if it does not occur on a continuous basis. Dehydration, gallstones, infections of the bile duct, and enzyme deficiencies can all cause changes in the color and composition of urine. If your urine is persistently dark yellow or brown in color, or if it is unusually malodorous and pungent, you should visit your doctor for a diagnosis. 5. Irritated Skin Itchy skin that doesn’t seem to go away and develops into a flaky rash is another telltale sign of serious liver damage. Skin irritations result from the body’s lack of fluid flow, which most commonly manifests on the surface of the skin in thick, flaky, itchy patches. Liver disease can also cause other skin problems, including a generalized yellowing of the skin and mucus membranes (jaundice), reddened of the feet or hands, and changes in skin tone and color. These changes can result in unusually dark or unusually light patches of skin in localized areas. In some cases, patients experience the appearance of veins through the skin. If any of these symptoms appear, and particularly if they are accompanied by itching, you should speak to your doctor. He or she can check for signs of liver problems by performing a few simple, painless tests.

Blood Clots,Recognize,Symptoms, What to Expect-Clip 1

11:35
Learn how to recognize Deep vein and Superficial vein thrombosis and what to expect.BLOOD CLOTS -- HOW TO RECOGNIZE 1)Superficial-reddness, mild burning if along the Saphenous vein. Other surface veins may have a visible or palpable lump usually feels like a hard cord or pencil under the skin. Could continue into a DVT You can expect to be put on coumadin and will have only minor impairment if at all. It can be deceptively symptom free until the entire Saphenous vein becomes like a cord most of the way from your thigh down to the ankle. You most likely will not experience any leg swelling but you should see the vein become more prominent and then become hardened. 2)Deep vein-If in calf, dorsa flex the foot. If sharp pain then suspect thrombosis. 3)Deep vein- If between the thigh and knee-Femoral vein Can be difficult to detect at first because it tends to become established before symptoms develop. Symptoms may present as a lower muscle pain or pulled groin muscle. Further these pains may not always be present. They can be intermittent at first misleading you into thinking it's just a pulled muscle.Experience feelings of fluid build up upon standing and weakness in Quads at first . Later a feeling of dizzyness AFTER mild exertion. A craving for sweets for energy. DO NOT attempt to treat with anti-inflammatory NSAIDs like Aleve or Ibuprofen. Tylenol okay to use. Take a couple of aspirin a day until you have a chance to get to a doctor's offc. Do the pinch test to see if you are dehydrated...if skin does not snap back immediately start drinking fluids now. One you first feeling fluid building up and/or dizzyness upon standing you are probably within three days of requiring admission to the ER at the hospital. You will know you have reached a critical stage when your thigh muscles become weak, feel more and more pressure each time you stand and you feel dizzy after walking just a few yards. At this point you must go to the ER but try to have a bowel movement and pee before you go....you probably won't be able to for the next week or so. Just the physical swelling will cause that.DO THESE THINGS RIGHT NOW (TODAY) BEFORE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL FIRST THING: Laxative-If you even think you may have a thrombosis-Start immediately on either All-Bran cereal or Mira-Lax with each meal SECOND THING: Plan ahead-Transport (911=$900)/meals, grocery shopping, business now SECOND THING: Buy a pair of thigh high compression stockings 20-30mm Hg-no Rx nec. WHAT TO EXPECT: At the ER they will put an IV line in you to keep fluids going into your body. Your leg diameter will continue to swell for the next few days. Be sure you ask for a doppler to confirm thrombosis. Your pain levels will increase...you won't be able to walk but a few meters without passing out from orthostatic hypotension. If you are on diuretics for BP CONTINUE THEM. ASK THE HOSPITAL DOC (DAY 1) IF YOU CAN HAVE SOMEONE BRING YOU 20-30 mm thigh high COMPRESSION STOCKINGS FOR IMMEDIATE USE. You will need measurements of your ankle, calf, and thigh at the widest part. You will only use these until about two or three weeks after you get home then order some stockings at 30-40mm for the next 4-6weeks and then go to 40-50mm. As soon as you can (when the 30-40mm began to stretch and lose compression. The hospital may give you some short knee high compression socks which are useless and just slow your progress or they may use a machine with a pressure cuff to stimulate circulation---they usually don't get the cuff adjusted tight enough to do any good....take some control here and do it yourself. Each day, Ask your hospital doc if your vital signs have returned to normal (such as kidney function). If so then don't let the hospital keep putting IV fluid into your body...that just makes your leg feel like it is going to burst plus it makes it almost physically impossible for you to use the toilet in your room no matter where it is. They will argue the IV is for your benefit. Tolerate what you can but take control. You will also feel your upper body begin to retain fluid as well. This will also make going to the toilet a lot more difficult. Until you can get the fluid in your body down (ask doc to use lasix for that) you will be in great pain and pretty immobile and severely constipated and unable to pee. You will be put on Coumadin or Warfarin accompanied with a few shots of Lovenox injections for about ten days. The Coumadin you may be on forever. You will also be given medication for pain.

Regular Use of Anti-Inflammatory Medications Can Be Dangerous -- Saint Thomas Health

02:21
If you have a fever, sore back or arthritis, it’s easy to reach into your medicine cabinet and grab a couple of ibuprofen to bring some pain relief. Millions of people do it, but Dr. Melissa Walton-Shirley says you should have full knowledge of all the side effects before taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s). Dr. Walton-Shirley, a cardiologist at Saint Thomas Heart in Nashville, says taking NSAID’s can increase your blood pressure and increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it over a long period of time or take it in high doses. These NSAID’s, which include ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, and Celebrex (just to name a few), can also cause ankle swelling, ulcers, or stomach bleeding Dr. Walton-Shirley advices if you’ve been placed on an anti-inflammatory for a sore knee or back, and now you’re feeling better, you should get off the medication immediately. 6 NATURAL Ways to REDUCE GOUT PAIN, GOUT ATTACK Naturally. FAST GOUT PAIN in KNEE Relief & PREVENT

05:45
Gout and Natural Home Remedies. Top 10 Natural Home Remedies for Gout. Gout is a type of arthritis that can affect different body parts like the ankles, knees, hands, wrists but mainly affects the big toe. Symptoms include acute pain, inflammation in the joints causing swelling and tenderness. Many gout sufferers have experimented with natural home remedies. What is a the true definition of a home remedy? It’s simply a medicine made with ingredients available at home. Here are the most popular natural home remedies voted by gout sufferers: 1. Apple Cider Vinegar: ACV is considered king when it comes to a gout natural home remedy and it’s my most popular post voted by social media. ACV helps your body become more alkaline and the acidity helps relieve acute gout pain. Many gout sufferers report drinking 1-2 tablespoons of raw unfiltered and organic apple cider vinegar in a glass of at least 8 ounces of water. Some will drink this 2-3 times a day for better results. ACV can also be used as topical treatment. You you can soak your foot for about 30 minutes in a bucket full of 4 cups of hot water and 1 cup of apple cider vinegar. You can also soak a clean, dry cloth in apple cider vinegar and wrap it around the affected area for about 15 minutes. 2. Baking Soda: Another extremely popular natural home remedy for gout sufferers is baking soda. Like apple cider vinegar, it makes your body more alkaline. Many consume ½ a teaspoon in a glass of 8 oz. water. Many will repeat this throughout the day until they have consumed at least 3 teaspoons of baking soda. It helps lower uric acid providing with relief from the pain at the same time. Avoid this home remedy if suffering from high blood pressure and try to limit salt intake in your meals during the day when taking baking soda. Baking soda is very high in sodium. The maximum recommended dose is 4 teaspoons throughout the day. 3. Cherries: Whether sweet or sour, cherries have been known to be extremely effective in treating gout and lowering uric acid due to their high antioxidant properties. In one study conducted with 600 people suffering from gout, it was concluded that eating half a cup serving of cherries daily (10-12 cherries) resulted in a 35% reduced risk of a successive gout attack. For those eating 2 or even 3 servings in a day, their risk dropped to 50%! But that is too much sugar as well which can cause other health ailments. Best recommendation is to use a tart cherry extract supplement and avoid the sugar intake if you can! 4. Ginger and/or Turmeric: The powerful anti-inflammatories present in ginger root and turmeric can be very helpful in easing gout pain and inflammation. I basically chop off a little piece the size of an inch and boil it for about 20 minutes and drink it as tea. You can also add ginger root and/or turmeric in cooking recipes. Some may also eat a small piece raw daily. Others use it topically to reduce swelling by making a paste of ginger root with water and then apply it to the affected area, leaving it on for about 30 minutes. 5. Water: Very simple, we all have it and it’s usually free. Drink plenty of it and flush excess uric acid out of your body. Staying hydrated is one effective way of limiting gout flares. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day but if you can, why not strive for 12?! Make sure a water bottle is with you everywhere you go, I carry a bottle with me from morning to night and keep refilling it all day long. 6. Lemon Juice: Another natural home remedy that helps alkalize your body thus reducing uric acid in the blood, is drinking lemon juice. Many gout sufferers squeeze half a lemon in a glass of 8 oz. of water and drink it up to three times a day. Others will combine it with ½ a teaspoon of baking soda. Remember lemon juice is also high in vitamin C which also helps gout. 7. Celery Seeds: Another popular natural home remedy that helps lower uric acid and prevent gout according to many gout sufferers is celery seed extract. Celery seed simply stimulates your kidneys causing your kidneys to excrete more uric acid out of the body. Thus it causes you to visit the bathroom and urinate more. 8. Epsom Salt: There is no better topical treatment to treat a gout attack than epsom salt, widely used by many to relax muscles, aches and pains. The presence of magnesium which is an alkaline minreal in epsom salt also helps to treat gout. Before taking a bath, simply add 1 to 2 cups of Epsom salt in your bath and soak your entire body or affected joint, for at least 30 minutes. 9. Bromelain: Bromelain is a compound found in pineapples. The enzymes within it are frequently recommended for gout sufferers since it can lower uric acid and ease inflammation caused by gout. Again, bromelain is loaded with vitamin C as well which is also good for your gout. Bromelain is also considered a natural pain killer for many other ailments. 10. Vitamin C: A very popular vitamin with gout sufferers, let’s not forget vitamin C...

Knee Swelling use RICE Method to Remedy

01:59
Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation, also known as R.I.C.E, knowing this formula can vastly reduce swelling. R.I.C.E in combination with ibuprofen is one of the most effective means you can do to reduce a swollen knee. Remember, Tylenol will not reduce swelling like ibuprofen, but it can help reduce pain. Let’s break down R.I.C.E Rest Refrain yourself from any physical activities for at least 24 hours, the longer you rest the better you will recover. It’s best while resting to do gentle movement if possible to gain or maintain your range of motion. Ice Apply something cold to your knee, (be sure not to apply directly to the skin), up to 3 to 4 times a day for around 15-20 minutes per session. Compression Wrap your knee with an elastic bandage to help reduce the swelling. Elevation Get your leg in a comfortable elevated state while sitting or lying down. This will reduce blood flow to the knee so swelling can reduce. If swelling does not go down within a few days while using R.I.C.E or the pain gets worse, get in contact with your local physician. There you have it… Work R.I.C.E into your routine and you should start noticing a significant reduction of knee swelling. I hope you enjoyed this video. It is important to find an alternative to consistent use of over-the-counter medications, as research is starting to show the negative long-term side effects these treatments can have on our body. This includes digestive damage and leaky gut, liver failure, neurological impairment and an increase risk of heart attack or store. Specifically, NSAIDS such as Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen can elevate our blood pressure and increase heart failure. As you can see, these side effects can certainly outweigh the benefits of having a quick fix. Tylenol and carpal tunnel syndrome

03:29
Tylenol is the brand name for acetaminophen, which is designed to relieve pain by reducing inflammation. The FDA warns that Tylenol users should not take Tylenol on a chronic or long-term basis due to its dangers. Rather, Tylenol is recommended for acute or intermittent pain. That's because Tylenol has some side effects when taken for a long time, such as: 1. Allergic reactions like swelling, wheezing, and difficulty breathing, skin rash 2. Stomach or intestinal problems like bleeding or ulcers 3. Kidney problems which include kidney failure 4. Congestive heart failure 5. Breathing problems 5. Stroke Thus, Tylenol should be taken for short bouts of pain only. It is not a long-term treatment for any condition. If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, you should not simply kill the pain by reducing inflammation with Tylenol. Instead, you should get rid of the problem causing the inflammation to begin with: adhesions on the tendons. Such adhesions cause the inflammation and pain, and if you don't get rid of them the inflammation and pain will keep coming back. Only deep tissue carpal tunnel massage alleviates the pain and inflammation permanently because it drains fluid while also breaking the adhesions that cause the problem. It's nearly 100% effective, but you need such carpal tunnel massage expertly performed daily and for 2-4 weeks. You can see a therapist regularly for this, or you can use the Carpal Rx which is calibrated to perform the identical deep tissue massage on your wrist and forearm automatically, at home and every day for 2-4 weeks. Thus, carpal tunnel massage performed using Carpal Rx Therapy is the best and most effective carpal tunnel treatment available. And you can get this relief without surgery! How Osteoarthritis Develops Animation - Causes & Symptoms of Osteoarthritis - Knee Pain Video

01:23
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and is associated with the aging process. Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease causing the deterioration of the cartilage within a joint. For most people, the cause of osteoarthritis is unknown, but metabolic, genetic, chemical, and mechanical factors play a role in its development. Symptoms of osteoarthritis include loss of flexibility, limited movement, and pain and swelling within the joint. The condition results from injury to the cartilage, which normally absorbs stress and covers the bones, so they can move smoothly. The cartilage of the affected joint is roughened and becomes worn down. As the disease progresses, the cartilage becomes completely worn down and the bone rubs on bone. Bony spurs usually develop around the margins of the joint. Part of the pain results from these bone spurs, which can restrict the joint’s movement as well. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a type of joint disease that results from breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone. The most common symptoms are joint pain and stiffness. Initially, symptoms may occur only following exercise, but over time may become constant. Other symptoms may include joint swelling, decreased range of motion, and when the back is affected weakness or numbness of the arms and legs. The most commonly involved joints are those near the ends of the fingers, at the base of the thumb, neck, lower back, knee, and hips. Joints on one side of the body are often more affected than those on the other. Usually the symptoms come on over years. It can affect work and normal daily activities. Unlike other types of arthritis, only the joints are typically affected. Causes include previous joint injury, abnormal joint or limb development, and inherited factors. Risk is greater in those who are overweight, have one leg of a different length, and have jobs that result in high levels of joint stress. Osteoarthritis is believed to be caused by mechanical stress on the joint and low grade inflammatory processes. It develops as cartilage is lost and the underlying bone becomes affected. As pain may make it difficult to exercise, muscle loss may occur. Diagnosis is typically based on signs and symptoms, with medical imaging and other tests occasionally used to either support or rule out other problems. In contrast to rheumatoid arthritis, which is primarily an inflammatory condition, in osteoarthritis, the joints do not typically become hot or red. Treatment includes exercise, efforts to decrease joint stress, support groups, and pain medications. Efforts to decrease joint stress include resting and the use of a cane. Weight loss may help in those who are overweight. Pain medications may include paracetamol (acetaminophen) as well as NSAIDs such as naproxen or ibuprofen. Long-term opioid use is generally discouraged due to lack of information on benefits as well as risks of addiction and other side effects. If pain interferes with normal life despite other treatments, joint replacement surgery may help. An artificial joint typically lasts 10 to 15 years. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis with disease of the knee and hip affecting about 3.8% of people as of 2010. Among those over 60 years old, about 10% of males and 18% of females are affected. It is the cause of about 2% of years lived with disability. In Australia, about 1.9 million people are affected, and in the United States, 30 to 52.5 million people are affected. It becomes more common in both sexes as people become older. The main symptom is pain, causing loss of ability and often stiffness. "Pain" is generally described as a sharp ache or a burning sensation in the associated muscles and tendons, and is typically made worse by prolonged activity and relieved by rest. Stiffness is most common in the morning, and typically lasts less than thirty minutes after beginning daily activities, but may return after periods of inactivity. Osteoarthritis can cause a crackling noise (called "crepitus") when the affected joint is moved or touched and people may experience muscle spasms and contractions in the tendons. Occasionally, the joints may also be filled with fluid. Some people report increased pain associated with cold temperature, high humidity, and/or a drop in barometric pressure, but studies have had mixed results. Osteoarthritis commonly affects the hands, feet, spine, and the large weight-bearing joints, such as the hips and knees, although in theory, any joint in the body can be affected. As osteoarthritis progresses, the affected joints appear larger, are stiff, painful and may swell, but usually feel better with gentle use but worse with excessive or prolonged use, thus distinguishing it from rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of a joint effusion of the knee. Sometimes called degenerative joint disease or degenerative arthritis, osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic condition of the joints.

Alaska Day 5 - More Sliding, More Ice, Bigger Glaciers

At Kennicott Mine today, we are taking the Root Glacier hike. An amazing 5-6 mile hike through town, along the side of the mountains, near the Eric mine shaft, up on to the Root glacier. Using crampons was the only way to walk on this chunk of ice. We explored the blue ice, blue ponds, ice waves, the Kennicott glacier moraine, and an amazing moulin that was approx. 175 deep. ( we guessed as we couldn't see the bottom). Then back to the lodge to take Tylenol for swollen knees, ankles, and blisters. Yep a great day!!
