Finally found out what making my throat tight. Acid reflux!!
So finally, ive found whats been making my throat sore for 15 years. I always thought it was a condition called muscle tension dysphonia, but i went to ENT and they put a camera down my throat. They confirmed it was not MTD, and gave me omeprazole for acid reflux. Well after 2 weeks of taking it my throat has been fine, and it feels amazing. If you have throat tightness, then seriously try omeprazole. It may be acid reflux.

How Autonomic Dysfunction and SIBO Cause Heartburn and GERD
Listen to Dr. Nemechek discuss how autonomic dysfunction is the cause of common heartburn. Heartburn does not originate from the over-production of acid, heartburn is the result of Autonomic damage. If your sympathetic and parasympathetic branches are not in balance your brain will not move your digestive tract correctly, resulting in the inability to empty your stomach acid which gives you heartburn and reflux. Heartburn disrupts meals, limits the foods you can eat, and ruins your daily enjoyment of life or the ability to sleep well at night. Heartburn from Autonomic Dysfunction may affect other areas of your overall health and often leaves you with chronic hunger or “low blood sugar” symptoms that trick us into overeating as our brains try in vain to move our slow emptying stomach acid. Infant Acid Reflux looks like this
This is a different and difficult video for me to do, but after recieving messages about acid reflux and what it looks like I decided to try. Like I mention I do not have video of her screaming cries because I am tending to her, but if you have a baby with acid reflux they will have a painful cry and it seems there is little you can do to comfort. Remember that you are there for them. Your job is to do just that. It can be frustrating and tiring. Get help. Remember it doesn't last forever (hard to do in those hours, I know!) Let me know if I can offer any support! Encouragement. Help. You are not alone. We haven't been around very much lately as we try to work through Betsy's acid reflux This is a quick update for 5/6 weeks. Acid reflux started around 2/3 weeks. My older daughter had this so we knew what to look for, but every baby is different so finding a working solution can still take some time. I made a mistake and said she was on Previcid, but actually it's Prilosec. She receives 2.1 ml TWICE a day. The medication is to be taken on an empty stomach which is difficult with an infant. We give it to her 1 1/2 after she eats (if she is still awake) or 30 minutes before she eats. Sorry for my tears! Cricopharyngeal Spasm: A Troubling Feeling of a Lump in the Throat
In this video, Dr. Robert Bastian of Bastian Voice Institute explains cricopharyngeal spasm, a problem that causes a troubling sensation of throat constriction or of a foreign body in the throat. Cricopharyngeal spasm is caused by over-contraction of the upper esophageal sphincter, or cricopharyngeus muscle, and causes an annoying, preoccupying, even anxiety-provoking sensation of something stuck in the throat, like a "wad of phlegm." A common description is "There is something in my throat that I can't swallow or spit out." Individuals with this problem often have difficulty getting a clear diagnosis, and may see several physicians and undergo unnecessary and unhelpful tests in their quest for an answer. Sometimes also called "globus sensation," this disorder is described and explained in detail. Read More: http://bit.ly/axjJg9 Transcript Hi, I'm Kenisha Carr and I'm a CVS pharmacist. You've probably experienced the unpleasantness of heartburn some time or another. Heartburn is caused by a leak of food or acid from your stomach up your esophagus. Normally, everything in the stomach is kept from leaking by the LES muscle, which is located where the bottom of the esophagus intersects with the stomach. If the LES valve begins to weaken and opens too easily, the contents of the food or acid in the stomach can back up into the esophagus, causing the familiar discomfort and burning pain of heartburn. Fortunately, lifestyle changes can help control heartburn. If you're overweight, lose weight. If you're a smoker, quit. If you get heartburn at night, raise the head of your bed four to six inches or try sleeping on your left side. Cut back on alcohol. Avoid eating three hours before bed, eat smaller meals, and avoid late-night snacks and foods that upset your stomach. Eat more yogurt. Suck on an antacid tablet or chew a stick of non-mint gum. Go for a walk after meals. Avoid tight clothing; and don't bend over from the waist after a big meal. Although occasional heartburn isn't anything to worry about, frequent occurrences may be a sign of a more serious condition such as esophagitis or Barrett's esophagus. Also, the symptoms of a heart attack can mimic the symptoms of heartburn, especially among women. Avoid a potentially fatal mix-up by paying close attention to your symptoms. If it's heartburn, it usually flares up after a meal, and brings a sour taste and a burning pain that runs from your stomach to your breastbone. Conversely, heart attacks can happen at any time and cause a prolonged heavy feeling or squeezing pain in your chest, as well as dizziness, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath, weakness, overwhelming anxiety, or pain that spreads into the jaw, shoulder, or down the arm. Hopefully, this information helps you understand the causes of heartburn and how to prevent it. If you have any questions, your CVS pharmacist will be happy to help. Acid Reflux Medications Can Have Side Effects
If you have been taking acid reflux medications longer than 6 weeks... it is important you view this video. FDA Link: http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm213377.htm Feel Better With These Top Acid Reflux Pointers If you suffer from acid reflux, rest assured that you are not alone. In fact, nearly 1/3 of all Americans suffer from this condition. Symptoms such as heartburn, burning in the chest and throat and nausea can really hinder someones quality of life. Luckily, the article below has some great tips on how you can prevent this. The way you sit after eating can affect acid reflux and can keep it from traveling up your esophagus. After eating, try to remain sitting upright for around two to three hours before lying down. If you're having problems when you lay down later, prop your head up about six inches. Skinny jeans are the enemy of the acid reflux sufferer! Wearing tight clothes can block up your digestive system, causing you a great deal of pain when acid begins to back up. Go for elastic waistbands until you have your acid reflux under control, then you can consider getting back into your tight fitting pants. Stress is a factor in acid reflux. During stressful times, stomach acid production increases significantly, which leads to reflux. Therefore, find some way to relax after every meal. Meditate or try light yoga. Even watching your favorite television show can be relaxing and stress reducing. Refrain from sitting down after you consume a meal. By lying down, acid can rise due to the fact that gravity is working against it. You should feel better, and reduce symptoms, by sitting or standing. Do you suffer from respiratory problems? Do you have a chronic couch or wheeze often? If so, it could be an acid reflux problem. Heartburn could cause these symptoms. Your doctor might suggest a pH test. This procedure is done on an outpatient basis over the course of 24 hours and can determine if reflux is a problem. As was mentioned earlier in this article, living with acid reflux can really impact your life in a negative way. Nothing is worse than having an aversion to eating because of the possible effects it may have on you. Use the tips given above to help you fight back against your acid reflux. Ep.102: Singing Problems and Acid Reflux - You May Have it without Knowing!
http://www.powertosing.com/ Ep.102: Singing Problems and Acid Reflux: You may have it without knowing! This video talks about two forms of acid reflux. One kind you feel as heartburn and you know when you have it and why. The other reflux is common but you don’t know you have it. However, it can also cause problems with your voice and singing. Inside this video you’ll learn how to recognize the effects of reflux on your vocal cords and what steps to take to protect your voice! Hi, I’m Chuck Gilmore with Power To Sing. I have reflux. But it’s not the heartburn kind. That’s called GERD or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. It hurts. You know it when you have it. It burns in your chest and throat. You take Tums or Pepto Bismol for relief. It can fry your vocal cords with the acid from your stomach. That’s not the reflux I have. I have a silent kind of reflux. I didn’t even know I had it until I injured my vocal cords when singing sick. The ENT doctor scoped my cords and found nodules on the false cords and moderate reflux. He said the reflux was making it difficult for the nodules to heal because acid was irritating my injury. Yuck. My kind of reflux was silent to me because I didn’t feel heartburn. It’s called LPR which stands for Laryngopharyngeal Reflux. Here are the causes, symptoms and treatment options. I’m quoting from the Cleveland Clinic’s online information found here. http://my.clevelandclinic.org/services/head-neck/diseases-conditions/hic-laryngopharyngeal-reflux-lpr “Acid made in the stomach travels up the esophagus (swallowing tube). When that stomach acid gets to the throat, it is called laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR).” “Anyone can get LPR, but it shows up more often as people age. People who have certain dietary habits, people who consistently wear tighter fitting or binding clothing, people who are overweight, and people who are overstressed are more likely to have laryngopharyngeal reflux.” “There are many symptoms of LPR, all of which relate to sensations in the throat. Fifty percent of people with LPR do not have symptoms of heartburn or an upset stomach. When there are symptoms, they include: Mild hoarseness Sensation of a lump in the throat Need to clear the throat Sensation of mucous sticking in the throat and/or post-nasal drip Chronic cough Difficulty swallowing Sore throat Red, swollen, or irritated voice box 02:34 ==================== ==================== 03:35 “There are treatment options for people who have LPR. Most of the treatments can also be used as prevention measures. Follow a bland diet (low acid levels, low in fat, not spicy) Eat frequent, small meals Lose weight Avoid the use of alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine Do not eat food less than 2 hours before bedtime Elevate your head when you sleep. I use a couple of pillows. Avoid clearing of the throat Take medications, both prescribed and over-the-counter, as directed by a doctor. In very severe cases, surgery may be recommended as treatment I take medications prescribed by my doctor to treat my LPR. I think it helps. I’m not a doctor and I don’t diagnose or prescribe treatment. If you suspect you have acid reflux, go see an ENT doctor. I recommend one who specializes in the voice. Here are links related to reflux that will be helpful. Here’s a video of my doctor, David Palmer, talking about reflux: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z-8sgBvA9c The effects of Gastric Acid on the vocal cords: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrugdiVVTDU Not all hoarseness is caused by reflux https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3NpwHK2REg Caring for your voice is a top priority if you love to sing and want to sing all of your life. One way to care for your voice is to understand your vocal type and do exercises that eliminate vocal weaknesses and improve your voice. Do you know your vocal type? Go to PowerToSing.com and take the vocal test, which I call the PowerTest. Take the quiz and discover your vocal type. Then go to the Knowledge Center and watch the videos about your vocal type. Download the free exercises for your vocal type and start improving your voice immediately. I’m Chuck Gilmore with PowerToSing. You can sing higher with beauty, confidence and power.
