How Blood Pressure Works Animation - Understanding Blood Pressure Measurement Monitor Readings Video
Normal blood pressure is important for proper blood flow to the body’s organs and tissues. The force of the blood on the walls of the arteries is called blood pressure. Blood pressure is measured both as the heart contracts, which is called systole, and as it relaxes, which is called diastole. Normal blood pressure is considered to be a systolic blood pressure of 115 millimeters of mercury a diastolic pressure of 70 millimeters of mercury (stated as "115 over 70"). If an individual were to have a consistent blood pressure reading of 140 over 90, he would be evaluated for having high blood pressure. If left untreated, high blood pressure can damage important organs, such as the brain and kidneys, as well as lead to a stroke. High blood pressure is a common disease in which blood flows through blood vessels (arteries) at higher than normal pressures. Measuring Blood Pressure Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. High blood pressure, sometimes called hypertension, happens when this force is too high. Health care workers check blood pressure readings the same way for children, teens, and adults. They use a gauge, stethoscope or electronic sensor, and a blood pressure cuff. With this equipment, they measure: Systolic Pressure: blood pressure when the heart beats while pumping blood Diastolic Pressure: blood pressure when the heart is at rest between beats Health care workers write blood pressure numbers with the systolic number above the diastolic number. For example: 118/76 mmHg People read "118 over 76" millimeters of mercury. Normal Blood Pressure: Normal blood pressure for adults is defined as a systolic pressure below 120 mmHg and a diastolic pressure below 80 mmHg. It is normal for blood pressures to change when you sleep, wake up, or are excited or nervous. When you are active, it is normal for your blood pressure to increase. However, once the activity stops, your blood pressure returns to your normal baseline range. Blood pressure normally rises with age and body size. Newborn babies often have very low blood pressure numbers that are considered normal for babies, while older teens have numbers similar to adults. Abnormal Blood Pressure Abnormal increases in blood pressure are defined as having blood pressures higher than 120/80 mmHg. The following table outlines and defines high blood pressure severity levels. The ranges in the table are blood pressure guides for adults who do not have any short-term serious illnesses. People with diabetes or chronic kidney disease should keep their blood pressure below 130/80 mmHg. Although blood pressure increases seen in prehypertension are less than those used to diagnose high blood pressure, prehypertension can progress to high blood pressure and should be taken seriously. Over time, consistently high blood pressure weakens and damages your blood vessels, which can lead to complications. Types of High Blood Pressure There are two main types of high blood pressure: primary and secondary high blood pressure. Primary High Blood Pressure Primary, or essential, high blood pressure is the most common type of high blood pressure. This type of high blood pressure tends to develop over years as a person ages. Secondary High Blood Pressure Secondary high blood pressure is caused by another medical condition or use of certain medicines. This type usually resolves after the cause is treated or removed. Blood pressure (BP) is the pressure exerted by circulating blood upon the walls of blood vessels. When used without further specification, "blood pressure" usually refers to the arterial pressure in the systemic circulation. It is usually measured at a person's upper arm. Blood pressure is usually expressed in terms of the systolic (maximum) pressure over diastolic (minimum) pressure and is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). It is one of the vital signs along with respiratory rate, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and body temperature. Normal resting blood pressure in an adult is approximately 120/80 mm Hg. Blood pressure varies depending on situation, activity, and disease states. It is regulated by the nervous and endocrine systems. Blood pressure that is low due to a disease state is called hypotension, and pressure that is consistently high is hypertension. Both have many causes which can range from mild to severe. Both may be of sudden onset or of long duration. Long term hypertension is a risk factor for many diseases, including kidney failure, heart disease, and stroke. Long term hypertension is more common than long term hypotension in Western countries. Long term hypertension often goes undetected because of infrequent monitoring and the absence of symptoms. Physiology: During each heartbeat, blood pressure varies between a maximum (systolic) and a minimum (diastolic) pressure. Q. What blood pressure should I have? What is normal blood pressure?

OSTAR P2 Heart Spectrum Blood Pressure Monitor
OSTAR is a company with 14 years of experience in medical device innovation. Our specialty is cardiovascular diagnosing and monitoring device. Throughout the years we have had great success incorporating our devices into major hospitals. OSTAR's cloud patient monitor not only provides consistent and accurate vital information, but drastically reduced nursing workload. However, we are not stopping there. Our goal when we were founded, has always been saving as many people as we can. That means making our technology to reach public. We need hospitals and professionals to verify and trust our device and technology before we bring it to the public and now we believe the time is right. OSTAR P2 is not revolutionary in anyway, we did not reinvent the wheel, instead, we improve it with a way no one has ever done before. We think when we use our ordinary blood pressure monitor, we tend to overlook true accuracy of our measurement, not only that, there are actually a lot more we can find from listening and locating murmurs. Therefore, we gathered our core technology and shrink what was once a full scale hospital patient monitor, into a little device that fits in everyone's home. Introducing OSTAR P2, a Heart Spectrum blood pressure monitor with power-on auto calibration that is going to completely change the way you look at blood pressure monitor, and allows you to know everything about your heart, in one touch. Hear our story, help us bring these technology to the world by joining our campaign on indiegogo and spread the word for us. We'd also love to hear your feedbacks and any questions you have. How To Pronounce Sphygmomanometer - Pronunciation Academy
Learn how to pronounce Sphygmomanometer This is the *English* pronunciation of the word Sphygmomanometer. According to Wikipedia, this is one of the possible definitions of the word "Sphygmomanometer": A sphygmomanometer (/ˌsfɪɡmoʊməˈnɒmɨtər/ SFIG-moh-mə-NOM-i-tər), blood pressure meter, or blood pressure gauge (also referred to as a sphygmometer) is a device used to measure blood pressure, composed of an inflatable cuff to restrict blood flow, and a mercury or mechanical manometer to measure the pressure. It is always used in conjunction with a means to determine at what pressure blood flow is just starting, and at what pressure it is unimpeded. Manual sphygmomanometers are used in conjunction with a stethoscope. The word comes from the Greek σφυγμός (sphygmos, pulse), plus the scientific term manometer (pressure meter). The device was invented by Samuel Siegfried Karl Ritter von Basch in 1881. Scipione Riva-Rocci introduced a more easily used version in 1896. In 1901, Harvey Cushing modernized the device and popularized it within the medical community. A sphygmomanometer consists of an inflatable cuff, a measuring unit (the mercury manometer, or aneroid gauge), and a mechanism for inflation which may be a manually operated bulb and valve or a pump operated electrically. The usual unit of measurement of blood pressure is millimeters of mercury (mmHg) as measured directly by a manual sphygmomanometer. Sphygmomanometer - Medical Meaning and Pronunciation
https://word2speech.com/medical/ Sphygmomanometer Sphygmomanometer: An instrument for measuring blood pressure, particularly in arteries. The two types of sphygmomanometers are a mercury column and a gauge with a dial face. The sphygmomanometer in most frequent use today consists of a gauge attached to a rubber cuff which is wrapped around the upper arm and is inflated to constrict the arteries. A blood pressure reading consists of two numbers: systolic and diastolic. Systolic refers to systole, the phase when the heart pumps blood out into the aorta. Diastolic refers to diastole, the resting period when the heart refills with blood. At each heartbeat, blood pressure is raised to the systolic level, and, between beats, it drops to the diastolic level. With the cuff inflated with air, a stethoscope is placed over an artery (the brachial artery) in the crook of the arm. As the air in the cuff is released, the first sound heard through the stethoscope marks the systolic pressure. As the release of air from the cuff continues, a point is reached when the sound diminishes and then is no longer heard. The point where the sound disappears marks the diastolic pressure. The blood pressure reading might show the systolic and diastolic pressures to be, for example, 120 and 78mm of mercury (Hg) respectively -- written 120/78 and said to be 120 over 78. A typical blood pressure reading for an adult might, in fact, be 120/78. Readings vary depending on age and many other factors. Children and adults with smaller or larger than average-sized arms may need special-sized pressure cuffs. The sphygmomanometer was introduced in 1896 by the Italian physician Scipione Riva-Rocci (1863-1937). The American physiologist Joseph Erlanger (1874-1965) studied the principles of sphygmomanometry and devised a recording sphygmomanometer. Blood Pressure - What is Blood Pressure - How To Lower Blood Pressure
In this video I discuss what is blood pressure, what blood pressure readings mean, and what is hypertension. I cover some causes of high blood pressure, and how to lower blood pressure. Transcript What is blood pressure? As the heart beats, it pumps blood through blood vessels to and from all areas of the body. As blood is traveling through the arteries, which are blood vessels where oxygen rich blood travels to organs and tissues, it pushes on the sides of the artery walls. Blood pressure is a reading of the force of how hard blood is pushing on the sides of the artery walls. High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is when this force is too high. Health care professionals will measure your blood pressure, while you are sitting at rest, with a device, usually a blood pressure cuff, which will produce 2 numbers. The 1st number is called systolic pressure, and it gauges blood pressure when the heart beats, while it is pumping blood. The 2nd number is called diastolic pressure, and it gauges blood pressure in between heart beats, when the heart is at rest. So, an example reading might be 117 over 79, with the 1st number being systolic pressure and the 2nd number being diastolic pressure. Normal blood pressure is defined as lower than 120 for systolic, and lower than 80 for diastolic. Your blood pressure will change throughout the day, being higher when you are active or under stress, and lower when you are resting. The chart on the screen lists the different stages of high blood pressure along with the systolic and diastolic readings for them . High blood pressure can cause severe damage to the body over time. It can cause artery damage and narrowing by damaging the cells of interior artery walls, which can lead to atherosclerosis or hardening of arteries. It can damage the heart, making it work harder to pump blood. High blood pressure can also lead to damage to the brain, kidneys and even the eyes, as well as bone loss and trouble sleeping. Some of the risk factors of having high blood pressure include age, heredity, being overweight, smoking, having high cholesterol levels, consistently being under stress, physical inactivity, and poor diet, including over consumption of foods with a high salt/sodium content. You can do some things to help control blood pressure. Improve your diet, which may include reducing salt and increasing potassium, get more active, maintain a healthy weight, find ways to manage stress, avoid tobacco products, and limit alcohol consumption.

Use of monitors in ICU - Dr. Ramkumar J
Monitoring in ICU can be performed both by means of clinical parameters as well as the use of medical monitors. Multimodality monitors which measure multiple vital parameters are usually incorporated in the bed side of all patients in the ICU. The common parameters are usually measured include the heart rate, the respiratory rate , the lug rate and the pulse oximetry. The pulse oximetry is a measure of the oxygen saturation in the blood. It is designated by the terminology SPO2 and it is usually measured by IR finger cups. Talking about oxygen, we also have carbon dioxide in the exhaled air or patients with ventilator is called as entilited carbondioxide measurements or capnography. We use the terminology ETCO2 for such measures. There are multiple other invasive measurements which we also use in routine ICU practise such as invasive arterial blood pressure monitoring, central venous pressure monitoring, intracranial pressure monitoring, cardiac output monitoring etc based on the requirement and the necessity of such monitoring purposes.

Preventing and Treating Hypertension
Stress, poor diet, even genetics can cause high blood pressure. Lee Health’s family medicine Dr. Carl Nyberg says blood pressure is a measurement of the pressure in the arteries being pumped by the heart. “We look at two numbers that people usually see. The first number is when the heart’s contracting and the second number is when the heart is resting.” Blood pressure that’s too high can be dangerous for your body. “Hypertension is a medical word that describes high blood pressure. When the top number, which we call the systolic blood pressure, when it gets over 125 studies have shown there’s an increase in mortality the higher it goes,” said Dr. Nyberg. If left uncontrolled, hypertension can cause headaches, dizziness, and fatigue, even lead to kidney disease, heart disease, or stroke. “Things to do to prevent that are weight. People who are overweight and obese they have an increased risk for it,” said Dr. Nyberg. Doctors also recommend limiting sodium, processed foods, and alcohol. “Limit your daily intake of alcohol to two or less drink per day. Per week in men, you should have less than 14 drinks and women are less than nine,” said Dr. Nyberg. Patients should exercise at least four days a week and regularly check their blood pressure. “Preventing high blood pressure before you get it is probably the best rather than getting it and trying to fix it,” said Nyberg. If a patient has hypertension, lifestyle, diet, and medication changes may be recommended to lower those numbers. How To Pronounce Sphygmometer - Pronunciation Academy
Learn how to pronounce Sphygmometer This is the *English* pronunciation of the word Sphygmometer. According to Wikipedia, this is one of the possible definitions of the word "Sphygmometer": A sphygmomanometer (/ˌsfɪɡmoʊməˈnɒmɨtər/ SFIG-moh-mə-NOM-i-tər), blood pressure meter, or blood pressure gauge (also referred to as a sphygmometer) is a device used to measure blood pressure, composed of an inflatable cuff to restrict blood flow, and a mercury or mechanical manometer to measure the pressure. The usual unit of measurement of blood pressure is millimeters of mercury (mmHg) as measured directly by anal sphygmomanometer. How To Check Your Blood Pressure - Know your numbers
Seren Ucak from the Heart Research Institute High Blood Pressure Group explains a common blood pressure test. Your blood pressure will be measure with a reading which is one number over another, such as 120/80. The top number, which is also the higher of the two numbers, measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts). The bottom number, which is also the lower of the two numbers, measures the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats and refilling with blood). What is TOE PRESSURE? What does TOE PRESSURE mean? TOE PRESSURE meaning, definition & explanation
What is TOE PRESSURE? What does TOE PRESSURE mean? TOE PRESSURE meaning - TOE PRESSURE definition - TOE PRESSURE explanation. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Blood pressure in toes can be measured using special equipment, and is often valuable in assessment of severe peripheral artery disease, in particular in patients with diabetes where measurement of ankle pressure / ABPI is often unreliable (because of local stiffening of arterial wall). Feet are often cold and to make sure measurement is not affected by local vasoconstriction, the patient's feet may be pre-warmed in water or by warm air to a skin temperature of around 30 °C. Measurement is done with the patient lying flat, with feet at heart level, using sphygmomanometry: the big toe is slightly emptied of blood by squeezing, and a small cuff is inflated around the base of the toe. Cuff pressure is then slowly lowered until flow can be detected in the distal part of the toe, e.g. by optical means (photocell), by expansion of the toe as measured with strain gauge plethysmography, or by visual assessment of color change by an experienced examiner, and the pressure at which this occurs is recorded. The toe pressure is usually slightly lower than arm blood pressure, a difference of up to 50mmHg is considered acceptable. Toe pressures below 30 mmHg (in diabetics 50mmHg) are pathological and associated with reduced viability of the tissue, risk of amputation.
