When it comes to "the best diet to lose weight" (also known as a "cutting diet"), you'll get A LOT of suggestions as to which diet to lose weight fast you should follow. However, the truth is that whether it's keto, intermittent fasting, paleo, and so on, all of these diets work by making it easier for you to eat at a calorie deficit. These diets don't have a "secret" fat loss effect which has been proven time and time again in the literature. Simply meaning that the best weight loss diet or the best diet for abs for example is the one that you can adhere to the best. However, weight loss is one thing and fat loss is a whole other variable which is MUCH more important when it comes to improving your physique. When it comes to optimizing the best fat loss diet, you need to pay attention to how much protein, fats, and carbs you're ingesting on a daily basis. I go through how to optimize each of these factors to create the best fat burning diet in my video. I also show a daily nutrition/meal plan (full day of eating) for fat loss with various examples/macros of what I personally eat on a daily basis. This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Anna Verhulst (23) is a fifth year medical student at Maastricht University, doing her internship in Eindhoven. She has a particular interest in the fields of oncology and sports medicine, but isn’t quite sure yet what kind of doctor she wants to become when she graduates in 2016. Anna is a keen writer, sharing her experiences as a junior intern through columns, essays and opinion pieces. A selection of her publications can be found at annaverhulst.blogspot.nl. In between her internships, she is also involved in a research project that explores the possibilities of exercise rehabilitation in cancer survivors. On stage at TEDx Maastricht 2014, Anna will share a story that she has purposely kept silent for a long time. It is a story that has nothing to do with her work as a medical student, researcher or writer. It is her personal story, for which she has finally worked up the courage to share it with the public. Special thanks to John Gunstad, professor with the Department of Psychological Sciences at Kent State University, for speaking with us about his cutting-edge research on how losing weight affects brain function. During the first week, you may find it easy to lose weight by simply switching to a healthier diet. But as your metabolism adjusts, you won’t burn as many calories as you used to. So losing additional weight will become harder. Making matters worse, as the fat melts away, you’ll start to experience an increase in appetite. After a meal, fat cells release a hormone called leptin into the bloodstream. This surge in leptin levels signals to your brain you’re full and should stop eating. But with less overall fat, people who lose weight show a measurable dip in leptin. Brain scans of obese patients who had lost 10% of their body weight revealed that less leptin leads to increased activity in regions of the brain that control our desire to eat. The result isn’t just an increased appetite but an even stronger urge to eat fatty, high-calorie foods, because your brain is trying to restore the body’s leptin levels to normal. However, fighting that early impulse to gorge on pizza and donuts is worth it in the long run. Besides the decreased risk of heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes, scientists studying overweight people discovered that losing just one pound of body weight reduces four pounds of pressure on knee joints. Losing excess weight also reduces strain on the blood vessels, increases blood flow to the brain, and boosts overall brain function. Several studies have shown that people who underwent weight-loss surgery saw an improvement in memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills in as soon as three months. Plus, brain scans indicate that people who lost weight and kept it off for nine months reacted differently when shown images of high-calorie foods than before they lost the weight. The brain regions that process reward, motivation, and taste didn’t react as strongly, whereas the areas that promote overall self-control had a boost in activity. So fighting those cravings early on might make them easier to control later. Turns out — like anything else — losing weight can get easier with practice.

Want to lose weight, but aren't sure how the math works behind burning calories and fat? Here's how to lose weight based on the mathematics of burning calories, burning fat, and weight loss. Dr. Carson Chow explains what happens behind the scenes when you exercise and go on a diet to limit food and calorie consumption. The old rule of burning 3,500 calories to lose 1 pound doesn't actually work in the long-run. Dr. Carson Chow explains a new rule for burning fat and calories and losing weight. More than two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, but Dr. Louis Aronne says it’s not their fault. In his new book, “The Change Your Biology Diet: The Proven Program for Lifelong Weight Loss,” he says being unable to lose weight is a medical problem that involves your genes, brain, fat cells and hormones. Dr. Aronne, director of the Comprehensive Weight Control Program at Weill Cornell Medical Center, joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss how to reduce body fat by reversing the damage to our brains.

Alisa is a doctoral researcher in clinical health psychology at UCL who has taught and given talks across the country. Her work covers new areas of eating disorder research at the intersection of the conscious and the unconscious. Seven years of experience in journalism has lent itself to an interest in public engagement and the bridging of the gap between the scientific community and the public at large. Her core interest is in understanding how we eat, what we believe about weight loss, and how a 'diet' is just 'die' with a T. Talk: Why we must stop ignoring the psychology of weight loss "Losing weight is really easy; you eat less and exercise more!" But this is simply not true, as many of us may know, most diets only result in temporary weight loss. We often ignore the psychology of eating and internalising wrong beliefs cause us to fail in losing weight. The problem should be tackled as a psychological one, unrealistic expectations should be abandoned and the stigma attributed to weight loss needs to be abandoned. Contrary to suspicious adds and promises of weight loss without effort, the psychology of eating really can give us important insights. Developed and produced by http://www.MechanismsinMedicine.com Animation description: In this animation, we discuss the concept of physical activity and exercise as they relate to obesity. In humans there is a fine balance between energy intake and energy expenditure. Energy intake is in the form of food, and energy expenditure is in the form of the basal metabolic rate and physical activity. The difference between energy intake and energy expenditure is the net energy balance. If intake exceeds expenditure, then a net positive energy balance occurs. Energy expenditure depends on a number of factors. This includes the starting body weight, the basal metabolic rate and physical activity. With regards to physical activity, there are several key variables including the frequency, intensity, duration and type of activity done. Let us now examine energy consumption. One honey glazed donut is shown which has approximately 300 kilocalories. The energy intake from the consumed donut is equal to the energy consumed by moderate walking for 30-60 minutes, at 3.0 miles per hour. If an individual walks for an hour at 3 miles per hour. They will expend approximately 300 kilocalories, the same as what was contained in the consumed donut. If an individual walks daily for one hour at approximately 3 miles per hour. This type of activity would lead to weight loss. This assumes that the individual does not consume any extra calories and has a net negative energy expenditure. If this activity continues for a period of two to four months, body weight is reduced as depicted. The initial weight loss is the result of a negative net energy balance. The negative energy balance is because energy expenditure exceeds energy intake. After the initial weight loss, the individual continues to do the same type of exercise, that is, 1 hour of moderate walking daily. The chart depicts changes in body weight over time. Individuals are surprised and frustrated that his weight is not continuing to decrease despite regular walking. They have reached a plateau. The reason behind the weight loss pleateau is that with decreased body weight, the basal metabolic rate also decreases. When the basal metabolic rate decreases, there is a decrease in total energy expenditure. If the discouraged individual quits his daily walking exercise. The weight is gained again, at a quicker pace. The weight is re-gained as a result of a positive energy balance being created. Energy expenditure is now less since the physical activity has been stopped. By keeping the same intensity and duration of walking without making any changes in the diet (energy intake) the man would enter a weight maintenance phase. This is characterised by gaining a small amount of weight. The weight maintenance is the result of an energy balance being established within the body, where energy intake essentially equals energy expenditure. If there is no change in energy balance, there will not be any further change in weight. What must be done to end the weight loss plateau? Several options exist to maintain a negative net energy balance. These involve either decreasing energy intake or increasing energy expenditure. Options include: restricting calories further or increasing the frequency, or the intensity or the duration of the exercise. In summary then, weight loss plateau's are expected and can only end with continued exercise and a net negative energy balance. Stopping exercise or increasing calories will lead to weight gain. If one continues to exercise to maintain a net negative energy balance weight loss will be promoted.

How to Lose Weight without Diets. Eat what you want and still don’t get fat –millions of people around the world dream about just that. Different research projects and studies continue to reveal simple rules that will help you achieve your dream body with almost no effort! And, yes, it is completely healthy! Follow some simple rules to get your perfect beach body fast and for good. TIMESTAMPS Add healthy fats to your diet. 0:51 Watch the number of lost calories during physical activity. 1:41 Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly. 2:29 Breathe in the smell of olive oil. 3:19 Eat with pleasure. 4:02 Choose the right pasta. 4:48 Take calcium supplements if you can't digest dairy products. 5:47 Eat solid food in the morning. 6:34 Eat dark chocolate. 7:20 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -Healthy fats, such as as nuts, seeds, cheese, and butter, digest more slowly than proteins and carbs, which means that if you eat them, the feeling of hunger won't bother you for a long time. -Of course, you need to eat after your workout. Just don’t go beyond the limit of your daily calorie intake. -If you don't wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly, the remaining pesticides can slow down your metabolism and cause weight gain. -Adding olive oil to food can leave you feeling fuller much more quickly. As it turns out, the smell of olive oil has its own set of benefits too, extending the period when the sugar level is stable. -If you truly enjoy your meal, you won’t feel hungry any time soon. However, if you hardly eat and feel pressured to eat less, you’ll find yourself standing in front of an open fridge much sooner. -Foods with a low glycemic index are better for people trying to lose weight. The best option for anyone who wants to lose weight is spaghetti. -Cheese, milk, cottage cheese, and many other dairy products contain a great amount of calcium, which speeds up the metabolism of fats. -Protein efficiency increases when it’s eaten in solid form. This means only one thing: if you eat solid food instead of smoothies (and other stuff like that) in the morning, you’ll feel hungry much later. -People on a low-carb diet who eat small amounts of dark chocolate don’t gain back the weight they lost. To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Today we’re going over the 5 biggest weight loss myths and debunking them using scientific studies. Weight loss myth #1. Eat 6 small meals for a faster metabolism http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9155494 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19566598 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21123467 When comparing eating 3 meals a day with 500 calories vs. eating 6 meals a day with 250, neither causes a greater calorie burn. (full article in description). The takeaway point here is that since meal frequency does not really matter, focus on finding what works best for you. What matters much more is WHAT you’re eating, not when you’re eating it for weight loss. Weight loss myth #2. Exercise alone can help you lose weight Let me be clear, exercise is amazing for a variety of reasons Better blood flow Improved posture Gaining lean muscle tissue to help you burn more calories Heart health And a variety of other things. Exercise is something your body needs and something you should be doing. That being said, according to the research exercise is not a crucial component for weight loss. http://www.cell.com/current-biology/abstract/S0960-9822(15)01577-8 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/08/150817142140.htm Multiple studies have shown when people are spilt into two groups, one using diet and exercise and one only using diet, that weight loss results are usually very similar. http://ije.oxfordjournals.org/content/42/6/1831.full http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3925973/ This just goes to further show that you absolutely cannot outrun a bad diet. The takeaway here is not to ignore exercise or stop exercising for weight loss, the point is to give your diet more credit and focus on what you’re eating. As far as weight loss is concerned, the science points to taking an 80% diet 20% exercise approach. Weight loss myth #3. You Can Crunch Your Way to A 6-Pack The body anatomically has your muscles located underneath where you store fat. It’s likely that you already have great abs from the natural movements in. Crunches will not get you abs. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3925973/ Weight loss myth #4. Fat makes you fat. It might seem logical that if you have body fat then cutting fat out of your diet will help you lose it. This is a common mistake. There are plenty of studies showing that diets high in fat but within recommended caloric ranges still cause steady weight loss. http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/86/2/276.full http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1467-789X.2012.01021.x/abstract There’s also evidence showing that saturated fat is fine for you as well… In a recent meta analysis of 21 studies with 347,747 participants they found absolutely zero evidence or association between saturated fat and heart disease. http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/early/2010/01/13/ajcn.2009.27725.abstract The reason for the saturated fat scare was a poorly correlated study performed in the 1970’s. In reality, fat and the occasional source of saturated fat in your daily diet is perfectly healthy. The takeaway is foods like high quality dark chocolate, extra virgin olive oil, and coconut oil are healthy and safe to eat. Weight loss myth #5. Don’t lose weight quickly, go slowly Probably one of the more interesting findings was a meta analysis done by the University of Alabama on the speed of weight loss. http://sciencenordic.com/researchers-rapid-weight-loss-best It may seem logical to tell people who want to lose weight to go slowly, change their habits over time, and gradually decrease their calories so they can ease into a new healthy lifestyle. The science tells us otherwise. This comprehensive examination of major weight loss studies found that militant diets beat out the slow and steady approach. http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMsa1208051 The people experiencing the greatest weight loss in the first 2-4 weeks experienced the greatest weight loss the following year. http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMsa1208051 This makes sense from a motivation standpoint as well as the faster the scale moves down the more encouraged you will be to stick with your diet. As controversial as that may sound, it seems a stricter diets produces better weight loss results. There is more to health than just losing weight, but that’s what the science is telling us. The takeaway here is that if you want to see serious weight loss results use an aggressive diet. This does not mean that you should go on a crazy juice fast or crazy tea-tox, just that losing more than 2 pounds per week is ok and a probably a good idea if you have a lot to lose.

To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness It’s true. These are all weight loss tips you can find on the internet these days. Probiotic we recommend: http://amzn.to/2byYd3y (that is an affiliate link btw so I get a very measly % if you buy. It's no extra cost to you). And while there are all sorts of pills, potions, and theories out there, here are some tips that are actually backed by science! Let’s start with the obvious first… What you’re eating matters. And one of the most important things you can be eating, is more protein. Diets high in protein have also been shown to cut late night cravings in half, reduce obsessive dieting thoughts by 60%, and make you feel so full that you naturally eat 441 fewer calories per day. It is also helps preserve lean muscle mass and helps stop muscle loss when cutting weight. The best sources are whole eggs, salmon, lean chicken, and grass feed beef depending on what diet you choose. Also, eat tons of low carb vegetables. Besides the amazing micronutrients they provide, they will also supply the body with a steady source of fiber. Studies show that fiber (especially viscous fiber) can increase satiety and help you control your weight over the long-term (38, 39). Your momma was right about eating your greens. Oh, and don’t forget about water. Dieters who were given 17oz of water 30 minutes before meals consumed 44% fewer calories than those who didn’t. It’s also been shown to give a 24-30% boost in metabolism over a period of 1- 1½ hours after drinking. So not only is water great for skin and overall health, it can also help you lose weight. Weight loss is not just about what you eat, but it’s also about what’s going on inside your body. Take a probiotic. Both human and animal studies have shown that normal-weight people have different gut bacteria than those who are overweight or obese. During a 3-month study period, women who took probiotics lost 50% more weight compared to the group taking a dummy pill (placebo). They also continued to lose weight during the weight maintenance phase of the study. So take a probiotic or perhaps some apple cider vinegar to help your gut out. I will link some of the best resources in the description. What about workouts? While there is no real connection between exercise and weight loss per se, it can be helpful because: • It helps prevent the down-regulation of metabolism – which is where the metabolism slows down when you cut calories • It gives an added calorie burn to your day • Better overall health and cardiovascular system. Exercise 3 times a week for best results. Also, consider drinking black coffee or green tea before your workouts. They have been shown to help burn more fat and increase work output during exercise. Some final tips that seems work well for people: Chew gum immediately after eating a meal. Studies have shown that chewing gum lowers the desire for sweets and salty snacks and will decrease hunger between meals (study, study) So right after having a big meal or when those cravings hit, throw in a piece of sugar free gum. Soups work really well. We already discussed the benefits of water intake, protein, and low carb veggies when losing weight. Combine all of these into a delicious chicken and veggie soup to get the benefits of all three in a single meal. Plus, soup is incredibly inexpensive and can last for weeks if properly stored! Oh and don’t forget to sleep. Studies show that poor sleep is one of the strongest risk factors for obesity, being linked to an 89% increased risk of obesity in children, and 55% in adults (43). 8 hours a night, because your health does depend on it! “I want you to understand that it is good to feel chilly,” Patrick Rensen says. Though there are different ways to burn calories, Rensen argues there is a fairly straightforward way to achieve this: lower the room temperature. “Activating brown fat to burn 200 kcal per day,” says Rensen, “can translate to about three kilograms of weight loss per year. We are now investigating whether nutritional and pharmacological interventions may be effective as well.” As a Professor of Endocrinology at Leiden University Medical Center, Rensen studies the role of sugar and fat metabolism in diabetes and heart disease. In particular, Rensen is investigating something called ‘brown fat’ which is different from the all too familiar ‘white fat’ that tends to collect around our middles. “We know that babies are born with brown fat,” says Rensen, “but we thought it disappeared after a few years...” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. The science of weight loss explains why losing weight is more complicated than simply eating less and exercising more. In this introduction to the physiology of weight loss and the pathophysiology of obesity. Weightloss is challenging because the body has a bias against using stored energy, and maintains weight by increasing appetite and decreasing basal metabolic rate. If interesting in learning how to lose belly fat fast, make sure to check out our Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Fast forward to today and how to lose belly fat fast is still one of the more commonly searched health and fitness topics of all time. That’s why today I’m going to show you exactly how to lose that stubborn stomach fat and start carving that sexy stomach. And it’s all backed by science. There are 5 main causes to a pesky belly bulge. #1. Overeating Kind of obvious, here but it needs to be said. The main culprit of belly fat is consuming too many calories leading to weight gain and stomach fat. And the main way to lose the belly fat is reducing fat all across the entire body. #2. Hormone Imbalances, Specifically Cortisol High amounts of the stress hormone cortisol have been linked to higher abdominal fat distribution. Other hormonal issues have also been linked with slow weight loss and difficulty for the body to properly uptake nutrients. So it’s just as important to get your hormones in check as it is to make sure your diet is aligned. #3. Bloating Missed by a lot of health professionals, bloating certainly doesn’t help with belly fat. This is usually caused by high sodium intake, excessive carbohydrate intake, and can even be a sign of food intolerance. #4. Age The older you get, the harder the process of losing belly fat will become. You can get a flat stomach at any age, it will just take more effort when you are 50 than when you are 20. #5. Alcohol Intake Studies have shown that certain types of alcohol are directly correlated with stubborn belly fat. And if your overall goal is to lose fat, cutting down on alcohol intake is a simple solution that really works. Here’s how to lose belly fat, actually backed by science!! 1. Chow Down on fiber rich foods Studies have shown there is a direct relation between fiber intake and reduction of belly fat The type of fiber you want to focus on is viscous fiber. These are the types of fibers that bind to water and slow down the digestion process. It can be found in beans, vegetables, and whole fruits 2. Cut out the two S’s – Sugar and Salt Sugar is turned into fructose in the body which gets stored as visceral fat. There are also plenty of studies that show how sugar increases belly fat, causes cravings, and is ultimately TERRIBLE for the body. Cut it out of your diet. There’s also similar problem with salt. The high salt intake in an average diet causes stored water weight and lots of belly bloat. Reducing salt intake to between 1500mg and 2000mg per day will usually result in an immediate reduction in belly bloat. 3. Drink Green Tea or Coffee Before Workouts Studies have shown that adding in caffeine before workouts -Increases work output -Helps burn more calories -Shows a greater reduction in visceral fat The best two healthy sources for caffeine are black coffee or green tea. Drink 30 minutes before exercise for more gainz and less belly fat! 4. Add Apple Cider Vinegar into The Diet Apple cider vinegar is uniquely effective for weight loss and eliminating stomach fat. Its ability to regulate blood sugar and curb appetite is also awesome for overall health. Studies have also shown that those who consume 1 -2 tablespoons daily have a significant decrease in visceral fat than those who do not (study). You can watch our video about it here if you’d like… 5. Regulate your sleep patterns. For every hour of sleep the body gets that is fewer than 8, the chances of visceral fat increase. If you’re only getting in 6 hours a night, you’ll likely have a 22% increase in the gain of visceral fat (study). There’s a reason lack of sleep is associated with cravings, high cortisol levels, poor skin, and other health issues. Get 8 hours of high quality sleep every night. 6. Eat More of These Fats A study done by Swedish scientists showed a strange result. Those who ate lots of polyunsaturated fats lost more visceral fat, lost more weight, and gained more lean muscle than those that ate other fats (study). Polyunsaturated fats can be found in fish, nuts, and seeds Studies Used: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24550191 https://sleepfoundation.org/sleep-news/sleep-linked-gains-abdominal-fat http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19661687 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22190023 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19640952 http://jn.nutrition.org/content/130/2/272S.full http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15614200 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2912010 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7408399

Are there any ways to lose weight besides diet and exercise? There are many tricks that can help you lose a bit of excess weight in just 2 weeks. We’re going to share with you 15 tips that can help you get rid of excess belly fat. Most people don’t even know about these tricks! Science proves that people burn less fat when they sleep during the day and are active at night. A group of researchers from the University of Colorado studied 14 healthy people for 6 days. During the first 2 days, subjects slept during the night and didn’t have daytime naps. Then they changed their sleeping patterns to imitate owls’ sleeping schedules. It turned out that when people took a nap, their metabolism worsened since their biological clocks didn’t completely flip to fit their schedules. TIMESTAMPS: Avoid sugary drinks 1:01 Drink green tea 1:28 Hide unhealthy foods 1:47 Brush your teeth more often 2:20 Laugh more! 2:57 Drink more water 3:36 Follow the 2.5-minute rule 4:15 Eat less but more often 4:57 Remove the bright blue light from electronic displays 5:36 Stop counting calories 6:20 Let cool air into your bedroom 6:58 Forget about daytime sleep 7:37 Once a week, break your diet deliberately 8:20 Get rid of stress 8:52 Get plenty of sleep 9:20 #loseweight #weightlosstips Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - When your sweet tooth kicks in, you’re often tempted to chug a can of soda or some fruit juice. However, if you’re determined to lose weight, this sugary addiction must stop. - According to Dr. Margriet Westerterp-Plantenga of Maastricht University, drinking green tea may help because it’s loaded with antioxidants called catechins, which enhances its fat-burning capabilities. - According to a study by scientists at Ohio State University, you crave unhealthy snacks more when they’re within your reach. - Brushing doesn’t only clean your teeth! It can also help in the fight against excess weight if you brush during the day. - Sincere laughter uses about the same amount of energy as walking since it involves different muscles, especially abdominal ones. - The thing is, 5–30 seconds of hard exercise during a workout (for example, speeding up while riding a bike or running on a treadmill) with 4-minute breaks may increase your metabolism, and you’ll burn an extra 200 calories. - When you eat frequently, you let your body know that there’s no need to accumulate fats. When we skip a meal, we send the opposite signal — and we tend to eat more. - Anthropology at Kyushu University showed that bright light confuses our brain, which then stops producing melatonin. Our metabolism is tightly connected to our sleeping patterns and the amount and quality of our sleep. - Nutritionists recommend that you stop focusing on calories and pay more attention to the quality of the products you eat since not all calories are equal. - Сool temperatures in a room influence brown fat (a fat layer that protects the body from freezing). As a result, it splits white fat and burns chemical energy to create heat. - Science proves that people burn less fat when they sleep during the day and are active at night. - According to a study from Ohio State University, stress slows down our metabolism. What’s more, when we’re stressed out, we tend to eat more greasy, sweet, and salty foods. - A healthy 8 hours of sleep (from 10 PM/11 PM to 6 AM/7 AM) contributes to great metabolism. It can also help you get rid of unwanted belly fat. How to Lose Weight without Strict Diets Strict dieting isn't the only way to get the perfect body of your dreams. There are a few small changes you can make in your lifestyle and eating habits that'll help you lose more weight than you think. Pay attention to these simple but effective tips on how to get slim and slender in no time. Eat spicy foods Canadian scientists have proven that hot spices and sauces increase metabolism and keep us from wanting to eat something salty or sweet. Choose your plate wisely Researchers at Cornell University came to some pretty interesting conclusions regarding the effect your plate has on your eating habits. They’ve found that people are more likely to overeat if the color of their plate is the same or similar to the color of the dish on it. The same goes the other way around too: we eat less when the colors of our plate and food are highly contrasting. Turn the lights up and the music off Restaurants use special ploys to make you eat more, and, thus, spend more money! And their two favorite tricks, according to scientists at Cornell University, are lighting and music, which, when combined, can increase calorie intake by up to 18%! Soft lights cause relaxation and an increased appetite. As for music, it makes us eat faster. Control your bedroom light and temperature Don't underestimate the power of sleep: it influences more processes in your system than you think! And your weight is one of them. As it turns out, the risk of becoming overweight often depends on the lighting in the room where we sleep. There are two types of body fat: “bad” white fat that likes to build up and cling to our hips and midsection; and then there’s “good” brown fat that’s responsible for burning white fat and producing energy. But to kick-start these important processes, the temperature of the room you spend most of your time in should be pretty low. Experts suggest that the most appropriate temperature is around 66° F. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS #12. Eat spicy foods 0:30 #11. Use a hair dryer 1:14 #10. Choose your plate wisely 1:53 #9. Eat cinnamon on a regular basis 2:39 #8. Turn the lights up and the music off 3:22 #7. Do aerobic exercises 4:05 #6. Surround yourself with good company 4:52 #5. Be mindful of your sleep 5:42 #4. Consume more dairy products 6:29 #3. Eat more beans and legumes 7:03 #2. Have soup first 7:45 #1. Control the room temperature 8:12 SUMMARY -Canadian scientists have proven that hot spices and sauces increase metabolism and keep us from wanting to eat something salty or sweet. -The heat makes you sweat, ridding your body of excess water weight. So instead of torturing yourself at the gym, just grab a hair dryer. -People are more likely to overeat if the color of their plate is the same or similar to the color of the dish on it. -Сinnamon can reduce hunger and decrease appetite when eaten every day. And that’s because the components in this spice break down carbs. -Soft lights cause relaxation and an increased appetite. As for music, it makes us eat faster. -Сhoose your workout plan according to your age and fitness level, stick to it, and you’ll love the results. -People tend to have the same meals as their friends when they eat out together. -Sleeping in dark rooms makes you less prone to weight issues than those who sleep in slightly lit rooms. -People who eat dairy products 3 times a day lose weight much faster than those who don’t. -Consuming 5 oz of beans reduces our appetite and helps us lose about 11 oz of body weight in 6 weeks. -Eating soup before your main course reduces the number of calories you consume. -To kick-start the fat burning process, the temperature of the room you spend most of your time in should be pretty low. Maintenance calorie calculator: http://www.acaloriecounter.com/calculator.php Myfitnesspal (Android) : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myfitnesspal.android&hl=en (Ios) : https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/calorie-counter-diet-tracker/id341232718?mt=8 Here are links to 2 great books on nutrition and dieting. These books contain all the information you’ll probably ever need on weight loss: Burn The Fat - Tom Venuto : http://amzn.to/2hCVPHE The Lean Muscle Diet - Lou Schuler & Alan Aragon : http://amzn.to/2hkuMS3 Fat loss! = Weight Loss. When people say they want to lose weight, what they’re really saying is that they want to lose fat. What they don’t realize is – Fat loss is not = Weight loss. Say you start a cabbage soup diet. After 5 days maybe you lose 1kgs. That’s 1 kg of weight. Not fat. It could just be water loss or muscle loss. Even a heavy bowel movement can cause weight loss of 1-2 pounds. Your total body weight includes the weight of your muscles, bones, organs, tissues and only some percentage of this weight is fat. No crash diet no matter what they claim can guarantee you that you’ll lose just fat. It’s always a trade-off. Instead of following a random crash diet, knowing the principles of weight loss will lead to much better and sustainable long term results. So here are the 3 most important principles of weight loss. # 1: Find Your Maintenance Calories. The number one factor that decides Weight loss or gain is calories in vs calories out. In very simple terms, this means that if your body utilizes more calories than you eat, then you will lose weight. Conversely, if you consume more calories than your body can burn in a day, then it results in weight gain. Yes. That simple. But the question is how do you know how many calories you burn in a day? The amount of calories that you need to consume in order to stay at the same weight is called your maintenance calories. Once you’ve figured that out – The only thing you need to do to lose weight is to eat lesser calories than your maintenance calories. How much lesser? About 200 to 500 cals lesser. We’ll be linking online tools that will give you an estimate of what your maintenance calories is. While they may not be 100% accurate, they’ll still give you a great place to start. Counting calories has never been easier. With apps like myfitnesspal (linked in desc), you simply have to enter whatever food you eat throughout the day and it does the job for you. # 2: Muscle is King Suppose a Person A and another person B have similar amounts of body fat but B has a greater amount of muscle mass than A, then B will burn more calories than A, even if the amount of activity they perform throughout the day is equal. Just having more muscle mass helps you burn more calories. So build more muscle and also make sure to keep your protein intake high to preserve the muscle you already have. #: Avoid Metabolic Slowdown – Hit the gym! Studies have shown that calorie restriction can cause our metabolism to slowdown. When you start eating below maintenance, your body goes into a so called “starvation mode” which means that your body fights hard to stop you from losing more weight. There is a way to counter this though. Research shows that any resistance training – with weights or even just bodyweight, can help maintain metabolic rate and can also build muscle which in turn will burn more calories. Weight loss is not quite as complicated as people think it is. You don’t need to drink a magic smoothie or go on a cabbage soup diet to lose weight. Just follow these three basic principles and achieve the results you’ve always wanted. Did these tips work for you? Let us know in the comments below. And you don't want to waste your time on things that don't work so you can get this done as fast as possible. Unfortunately there are a lot of qick fixes all over the internet that just don't deliver the results they promise. So today I want to give you 9 tips to lose that belly fat based on science. These are steps that scientists recommend you take so you can reduce your belly fat over time. The first step is to concentrate on burning fat from your whole body rather than just your belly. I know it may sound counter intuitive, but this is the best way to burn belly fat. Most studies have completely debunked spot reduction or target fat burning. One study looked at the effectiveness of losing fat from one of your arms. 104 participants were required to take part in a weight training program designed to target their non dominant arm. After 12 weeks researchers came to the conclusion that even though participants did lose some fat they lost fat from their whole body not just the trained arm. Similar studies like this were performed to test if you can target the abdominal region. 40 Overweight and Obese participants stuck to an abs specific weight training routine for 12 weeks, but experienced no extra fat loss from their belly when compared to dieting alone. Even though there are a few studies that have reported results that showed that you can target fat burn in certain situations, this was usually attributed to either flaws in the study or due to the fact that a very small amount of people were studied. Overall the majority of the scientific evidences is heavily stacked against this idea of spot reduction. So get the idea of target fat burning and spot reduction out of your head. Now with that said that doesn't mean that we can't burn belly fat with things like weight training. It just means we can't isolate and burn only belly without also burning the fat from other areas of the body. So that brings me right to the next step that science recommends we take to burn belly fat and keep it off over time. Weight training. There are many studies comparing weight training to cardio for fat loss. And most studies show that cardio will burn more calories and more fat on a minute by minute basis when compared with weight training. Unfortunately most of theses studies usually last for a couple weeks or months at the most. The participants and the changes to their bodies aren't observed for a very long period of time. However one study known as the health professionals follow up study was done over a 12 year period between 1996 and 2008. This study also involved a huge amount of participants. Over 10,500 men over 40 years old took part and they were each divided into one of four groups. Each group either increased the amount of time spent either weight training, doing aerobic activity, yard work, or being sedentary. And it turns out the weight training group had the least gain in their waistline over time. Fad diets are with us now, and will always be with us, says health and wellness expert Jillian Michaels. This despite the fact that weight loss is a simple science: eat less, exercise more. Michaels' latest book is "Yeah Baby!: The Modern Mama's Guide to Mastering Pregnancy, Having a Healthy Baby, and Bouncing Back Better Than Ever" (https://goo.gl/EZN2sj). Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/jillian-michaels-on-weight-loss Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript - People always want to sell something when it comes to weight loss and health, right. So they reinvent the wheel for that reason. And I’m sure you’ve seen a variety of fad diets whether it’s oh, you know, right now we’re going vegan. Wait, no, we’re going paleo. Wait, no, it’s 30-30-40 equal portions of everything. Wait a second, we can do everything but eat beans. It just, it always goes on and on and on. And the reality is that weight loss, weight maintenance is simple science. It’s eat less, move more. Food that you consume has calories in it. Calories are units of energy. Energy that does not get burned, gets stored as fat. Fat is stored energy. And then obviously use common sense with your food choices. We all know not to eat things in our food that is not food. Fake fat, fake flavor, fake sugar and so on. So in reality if it is this simple being healthy why do so many struggle with it? And that’s because people utilize food for a variety of emotional reasons. Whether it’s a coping mechanism or whether it’s affording them a deeper connection with another individual in their lives. And that’s what we have to get to the bottom of. And I remember somebody once said to me people are fat because they want to be fat. And I remember going what an a-hole you are. And the more I thought about it the more I realized it was true. The more I began to work with people who were overweight the more I began to see what it meant to them. And it could have been a connection with a parent. It could have been a connection to grieving the loss of somebody and feeling like if you stop eating like this you’ve moved on with your life and you’re no longer connected to them. It could be a sense of control. It could be a defense mechanism against being vulnerable and getting hurt in relationships. But that is one of the reasons that losing weight or getting healthy is so difficult because it requires us to give up something that has been providing comfort and a defense against hurt for a very long time. It’s not because people are weak or stupid or lazy or genetically fat. Read Full Transcript Here: https://goo.gl/Y7yLdh.

Wim Hof Method could cause weight loss because your body always strives to maintain 37-38 degrees in the core so the human body have to compensate for the loss. It can do it in two ways, through shivering which is muscle contraction, and at that state the mitochondria in your muscle burn Adenosine-5'-triphosphat (ATP), but muscle contraction will cause fatigue with time so the body have another alternative which is to change the fuel in the mitochondria to fatty acids to produce waste heat, your body will in other words burn fat. /Swedish Ice man ❅ Wim Hof Method - http://bit.ly/wimhofmethodonlinecourse ❅ Wim Hof Method playlist: https://goo.gl/IkwNpk Some helpful sources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrQ_ldCwKUQ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4209489/ Warning - important message, please read carefully: The breathing exercise has a profound effect and should be practiced in the way it is explained. Always do the breathing exercise in a safe environment (e.g. sitting on a couch/floor) and unforced. Never practice the exercises before or during diving, driving, swimming, taking a bath or in any other environment/place where, should you pass out, a serious injury could occur. Wim Hof breathing may cause tingling sensations and/or lightheadedness. If you’ve fainted, it means that you went to far. Take a step back next time. The cold is a powerful force. We strongly advise to gradually build up exposing yourself to the cold. Always train without force and listen to your body carefully. If it is not practiced responsible, there is a risk of hypothermia. Do not practice the method during pregnancy or when having epilepsy. Persons with cardiovascular health issues, or any other (serious) health conditions, should always consult a medical doctor before starting with the Wim Hof Method. ❅ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/vertical.addiction/ ❅ Tumblr - https://www.askverticaladdiction.tumblr.com/ask ❅ Strava - https://www.strava.com/athletes/vertical_addiction ❅ https://www.verticaladdiction.org FOR QUESTIONS USE: https://www.askverticaladdiction.tumblr.com/ask ❅ The Swedish Ice Man - https://www.youtube.com/c/theswedishiceman ❅ Wim Hof Method - https://www.bit.ly/wimhofonlinecourse Vertical Addiction Smashing in the Happiness!

To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness We’ve all been there… One moment you’re fired up for your goals and future sexy self, ready to diet and conquer the world. The next? Not so much... This video will teach you all about how to stay motivated to lose weight backed by science! But after just a couple days, you’re back to binge eating chips and watching hours of Netflix. What is happening? Why is it so difficult and what does the science say about motivation? Today, we’re going to be answering these questions and uncovering the real solutions to how to stay motivated to lose weight, backed by scientific solutions. Point #1. Motivation is fleeting and losing weight takes time The main problem people face when wondering how to stay motivated to lose weight is that motivation wears off and temptation will always exist. My boy Zig Ziglar has a good quote about the solution to this: “People often say motivation doesn’t last, well neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.” The secret here is to use our incredible 21st century technology to keep reinvigorating yourself with more motivation. The easy ways to do this are: • Listen to daily podcasts on being healthy • Read books our use audible.com to listen to health and fitness audiobooks • Or even attend conferences and events held on health and fitness All of these things will help re-inspire you and keep you motivated Point #2. Everyone has limited amounts of willpower Have you ever noticed it’s easier to make tough decisions in the morning but harder to make them evening? This is because your willpower, similar to a muscle, is a limited resource. After a long day of hard decision making, a psychological syndrome called decision fatigue sets in and makes it more difficult to say no to that pizza The solution here is to use habits instead of relying on willpower. Habits, since not consciously made, don’t dip into those willpower reserves and are decisions made on autopilot. Simple habits like drinking a large glass of water right when you wake up or not eating after 7pm are easy to establish and will help you when your motivation and willpower fades. Point #3. Progress can be deceiving The mirror plays games when It comes to losing weight and getting in shape. Many dieters have experienced the situation where they are losing weight and feeling better, but are seeing no physical results in the mirror. This can be crazy frustrating. The solution is that measurements don’t lie. It may not sound sexy, but diligent tracking progress is crucial for success • Yes, take photos, but also make sure to • Weigh yourself • Take measurements • Take videos • And keep studious track of these records. Progress = motivation and this will keep you from getting discouraged by the mirror. Point #4. Being healthy doesn’t have to suck When most people think about getting health and fit they envision eating dry chicken breast, bland broccoli, and running for hours on the treadmill. It doesn’t have to be like that, nor should it. Find something you love, especially when it comes to exercise • Yoga • Pilates • Boxing • Crossfit • Booty Bootcamp • Biking • Running • Hiking • Weight Lifting • Prancercising • Kayaking The are A TON of options With all those options out there, you have no excuse not to find something you love and can stick with. Remember a perfect workout routine you hate is going to be less effective than finding a type of exercise you love and can stick with. Point #5. Design small rewards for sticking to the plan All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. We humans may think we are complex and gifted beings, however, we are still simple animals. Basic reward systems in almost all major weight loss studies work on us just like our furry brethren. As talked about in our previous video on New Year Resolutions, reward systems work. Having a cheat meal once a week or even a reward day every few weeks on a diet can provide a lot of psychological relief and something to look forward to on those more temptation filled days. So in summary the solutions for how to stay motivated to lose weight are: #1. Find a daily source of motivation #2. Focus on establishing 1-2 core habits you can stick with #3. Track your progress diligently #4. Find a type of exercise and diet plan you ENJOY #5. Reward yourself for sticking to the plan Before you go if you wouldn’t mind leaving a like and a short comment on the video we’d really appreciate it. To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Lots of people are wondering the reasons why I am not losing any weight and why you are on a plateau. Let’s get into it: Reason #1. You May Be Losing Inches and Not Pounds Right Now We expect scale weight loss to be perfectly linear and a steady progression all the way to our goals. Like we are happily skiing down a mountain all the way down to our perfect weight. Weight loss is not like that… Scale weight loss often looks more like Driving an ATV through Jurassic park. Lots of peaks, valleys, and a little bit of craziness around every turn… This is exactly why you need to weight AND measure yourself. Gaining muscle can also throw off the scale as it’s heavier than fat mass, but steady inches lost, especially in the abdominal area, is one the most reliable indicators of weight loss progress. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10951540 The most important measurement you can track is your stomach, but also tracking progress on the arms, thighs, hips and butt is a great idea. Reason #2. You’re Eating Too Much 90% of the time the main culprit to a weight loss plateau is simply an overconsumption of calories https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18583464 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18025815 It doesn’t matter if your gluten free, dairy free, or clothes free, if you’re eating too many calories you’re going to gain weight… The solution is to diligently track your calories for a week, remain in a calorie deficit, and see if the scale or your inches move. It’s important to remember that big reason for why an overconsumption of calories happens is because Reason #3. You’re Eating Processed Foods and Sugars When we eat things like sugar and highly processed foods they don’t actually fill us up and proven to cause more cravings. http://foodaddictioninstitute.org/scientific-research/physical-craving-and-food-addiction-a-scientific-review/ Often this process leads to overeating. There is another reason other than diet that people run into plateaus… Reason #4. The Down-regulation of Metabolism This is a part of your bodies survival process where the metabolism slows down to meet the low calorie intake required to lose weight. An annoying part of dieting for sure, but is actually mostly preventable by doing one thing: Lifting weights. While not 100% necessary at the beginning of a weight loss plan, lifting 3x a week seems to help prevent the down regulation of metabolism from happening. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18356845 So if you’re on a plateau and your diet is in check, try adding some strength training into the mix and see what happens. Reason #5 Stress High cortisol levels has been linked to stubborn belly fat and if you’re dealing with a lot of stress right now, this can definitely slow down progress. The best proven ways to minimize cortisol levels is sleep more, meditate, and go on a daily 30-minute walks. Reason #6. Your Hormones Need a Break Have you been dieting for what seems like, forever?? Being in a calorie deficit technically means that you’re starving yourself. This process of losing weight can cause hormones like leptin and testosterone to drop. The prolonged drop on these hormones can make weight loss more difficult. The solution is to go on a diet break. Eat a little more food (yes even some bad things), get some more sleep, and take a break from the dieting obsessively for 3-7 days. Throw away the scale and just focus on how you feel. This will help these hormones normalize and should help things get back on track when you start dieting again. Reason #7. Deficiencies and System Malfunctions If you feel like you’ve truly done everything we just talked about and you’re still not losing any weight, it’s time to go get some blood work done. Think about getting blood work as taking a look under your cars hood. Things like micronutrient deficiencies, thyroid issues, and other system issues are really only revealed by blood work and can cause weight loss problems. Sooooo take a peak and still feel stuck! If you’ve got some extra weight to lose and want to get rid of it quickly, check out our free video training on fatlossnerds.com So in summary if you’re not losing weight and are on a plateau you should: #1. Track your inches and make sure you’re really on a plateau #2. Track your calories for a week #3. Minimize eating sugars and processed foods #4. Try strength training 3x a week #5. Minimize stress levels #6. Go on a Diet Break #7. And finally go get some blood work done
