Audit Plan

Primary emphasis is placed on Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, the role of the CPA/auditor in evidence collection, analytical review procedures and reporting, the CPA/auditor's ethical and legal responsibilities, the role of the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as other constituencies. Audit testing, including statistical sampling, internal control issues, and audit programs are discussed. -- Description: Management assertions about transactions include occurrence, completeness, accuracy, classification, and cutoff. Audit objectives (for the aforementioned management assertions) include occurrence, completeness, accuracy, posting and summarization, classification, and timing. Management assertions about account balances include existence, completeness, valuation & allocation, and rights & obligations. Audit objectives related to these assertions include existence, completeness, accuracy, classification, cutoff, detail tie in, realizable value, and rights & obligations. Management assertions about presentation and disclosure include occurrence, rights & obligations, completeness, accuracy & valuation, and classification & understandability Audit objectives related to these assertions are exactly the same as management's assertions. Overall, PCAOB assertions include existence or occurrence, completeness, valuation & allocation, rights & obligations, and presentation & disclosure. This is similar to U.S. GAAS, given the first four assertions are applicable to balances and transactions. Presentation, however, is treated as a single assertion. Reviewing the accounts receivable with the credit manager to evaluate their collectability will tell you the amount of receivables NOT collectible, therefore informing you of the balance that is needed for the allowance for doubtful accounts, which is a contra asset account to accounts receivable that is used to compute the NRV of the receivable. The assertion tested here is valuation. Counting inventory items to verify the amount posted and recorded in the inventory account will allow you to confirm that the inventory the client claims to have is actually there and that the number of items is correct [or incorrect] that is used in the calculation of inventory value. Both the existence and valuation assertions are being tested here. Obtaining a letter from management stating that there are no unrecorded liabilities will allow the auditor to know that management claims they have recorded all liabilities that exist and none are left off the statements. This audit procedure tests the assertion of completeness. The audit plan is a comprehensive list of the specific audit procedures that the audit team needs to perform to gather sufficient appropriate evidence on which to base their opinion on the financial statements. When planning the engagement, the auditor needs to develop and document a plan that describes the procedures to be performed to assess the risk of material misstatement at the financial statement and assertion level. The auditor must then carefully plan the nature, timing, and extent of control tests and substantive tests that are designed to mitigate these risks to an acceptable level. Audit procedures are used to gain an understanding of the client and the risks associated with the client (risk assessment procedures), to test the operating effectiveness of client of client internal control activities (test of controls), and to produce evidence about management's assertions related to the amounts and disclosures in the client's financial statements (substantive procedures). There are several types of audit procedures: inspection of records and documents includes vouching, tracing, and scanning. Other procedures include inspection of tangible assets, observation, inquiry, confirmation, recalculation, re performance, and analytical procedures. Audit documentation is the written record of the basis for the auditor's conclusions that provides the support for the auditor's representations, whether those representations are contained in the auditor's report, or otherwise. Documentation must be retained seven years from report release date (and if there is no report, from the last day of fieldwork). Documentation to be retained include those documenting discussion and subsequent resolution of differences in professional judgments among team members. All documentation must be finalized within 45 days of the audit reports' release date. 3.5 Planning effective searches

02:10
Three approaches are likely: visits to general and specialist libraries; contacting human experts; carrying out computer searches. For all of these, the desk researcher must set limits on time spent, cost expended, number of sources searched, language used, age of sources, format of data and methodology used. Continuous needs for data will make it feasible for the researcher to implement permanent information requests; conversely, the occasional requirement points towards gleaning information quickly. Desk research will start with the Internet, so the user must be familiar with search tools and techniques. To assess the reliability of information found, it is useful to look at the source and its context. Use the MR mix to ascertain the original purpose, the population used, the procedure followed and the reason for original publication. For any sector, look for the top companies, important trade press titles, trade associations and trade directories. http://www.oxfordtextbooks.co.uk/orc/bradley2e

Attribute Sampling in Auditing

Please like our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/rutgersweb To watch the entire video, go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdHFtkESrQ0 Course Summary: Introduction to the principles and concepts of the audit as an attestation service offered by the accounting profession. -- Description: Sampling is used when exact information is not needed, and when a large population is being dealt with. It trades effectiveness for efficiency. Sampling [in auditing] is used for study and evaluation of internal control (selecting control procedures to verify compliance, attributes sampling), and substantive procedures (selecting components or transactions of account balances for verification & variables sampling). Sampling risk is the risk that an auditor reaches an incorrect conclusion because the sample is not representative of the population (inherent part of audit sampling). It is controlled by determining an appropriate sample size, ensuring that all items have an equal opportunity of selection, and mathematically evaluating sample results. Non sampling risk is the risk that audit tests do not uncover existing exceptions in the sample. It results from the auditor's failure to recognize exceptions due to inappropriate or ineffective audit procedures. It is controlled by training, supervision, reasonable working conditions, and effort. Statistical sampling methods use the laws of probability to select sample items and evaluate sample results. Statistical sampling methods measure the auditor's exposure to sampling risk. Nonstatistical sampling violates one or both of the above criteria. Both statistical sampling and non statistical sampling can be used in a GAAS audit. A represenative sample is one in which the characteristics in the sample of audit interest are approximately the same as those of the population (the sample accurately represents the total population). An auditor can increase the likelihood of a representative sample by using care in designing the sampling process and selection, and evaluating the results. Overall, effectiveness losses can include risk of overreliance (assessing control risk too low) and risk of incorrect acceptance. Efficiency losses include risk of underreliance (assessing control risk too high) and the risk of incorrect rejection. To plan the sample, the auditor must state the objectives of the audit test (test operating effectiveness of internal control), decide whether audit sampling applies, define attributes and exception conditions, define the population (significance of completeness), define the sampling unit (must be consistent with audit objective), specify the tolerable rate of deviation, specify acceptable risk of assessing control risk too low, estimate the population exception rate, and determine the initial sample size. To select the sample and perform the audit procedures, the auditor must select the sample and perform the audit procedures. To evaluate the results, the auditor must generalize from the sample to the population, analyze exceptions, and decide the acceptability of the population. 12.2 The purposes of international research

01:23
International marketing research examines needs and requirements across different nations. Market entry decisions may relate to exporting and may concern finding distributors. Joint ventures may be considered, so background research becomes extremely important to identify partners, and to provide information for negotiations. It may look at consumer behaviour or it may examine organisational buyer behaviour. The country of origin (COO) may impact on the success of a product or service, so this area is often part or purpose of studies. Once established overseas, a firm makes tactical and operational decisions, and so research focuses on areas of the marketing mix. http://www.oxfordtextbooks.co.uk/orc/bradley2e

What is MULTISTAGE SAMPLING? What does MULTISTAGE SAMPLING mean? MULTISTAGE SAMPLING meaning

03:07
What is MULTISTAGE SAMPLING? What does MULTISTAGE SAMPLING mean? MULTISTAGE SAMPLING meaning - MULTISTAGE SAMPLING definition - MULTISTAGE SAMPLING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Multistage sampling refers to sampling plans where the sampling is carried out in stages using smaller and smaller sampling units at each stage. Multistage sampling can be a complex form of cluster sampling... Cluster because sampling is a type of sampling which involves dividing the population into groups (or clusters). Then, one or more clusters are chosen at random and everyone within the chosen cluster is sampled. Using all the sample elements in all the selected clusters may be prohibitively expensive or unnecessary. Under these circumstances, multistage cluster sampling becomes useful. Instead of using all the elements contained in the selected clusters, the researcher randomly selects elements from each cluster. Constructing the clusters is the first stage. Deciding what elements within the cluster to use is the second stage. The technique is used frequently when a complete list of all members of the population does not exist and is inappropriate. In some cases, several levels of cluster selection may be applied before the final sample elements are reached. For example, household surveys conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics begin by dividing metropolitan regions into 'collection districts' and selecting some of these collection districts (first stage). The selected collection districts are then divided into blocks, and blocks are chosen from within each selected collection district (second stage). Next, dwellings are listed within each selected block, and some of these dwellings are selected (third stage). This method makes it unnecessary to create a list of every dwelling in the region and necessary only for selected blocks. In remote areas, an additional stage of clustering is used, in order to reduce travel requirements. Although cluster sampling and stratified sampling bear some superficial similarities, they are substantially different. In stratified sampling, a random sample is drawn from all the strata, where in cluster sampling only the selected clusters are studied, either in single- or multi-stage. Advantages: 1. Cost and speed that the survey can be done in 2. Convenience of finding the survey sample 3. Normally more accurate than cluster sampling for the same size sample Disadvantages: 1. Not as accurate as Simple Random Sample if the sample is the same size 2. More testing is difficult to do

2.2 Research using the marketing research mix

01:47
One way to help researchers to approach the complex area of designing research is the marketing research mix (the MR mix) which, to be in line with the marketing mix, features four Ps. These elements are sequential and match the main phases that need to be followed. They are: purpose; population; procedure; publication. Purpose covers the objectives. The term population prompts the researcher to consider the target audience, customer or player: should a census or sample be taken? Procedures embrace the means of capturing data, processing it and then making analyses. These may involve desk research or using primary methods, and may be qualitative or quantitative, and in person, by phone, by post, or even online. Publication concerns communicating results through written reports and spoken presentation. http://www.oxfordtextbooks.co.uk/orc/bradley2e

Audit Evidence: Analytical Procedures - Lesson 1

06:08
In this video, 4.04 – Audit Evidence: Analytical Procedures – Lesson 1, learn how analytical procedures help an auditor plan for and review an audit, and also help the auditor check the results of substantive tests of details for reasonableness. Roger Philipp, CPA, CGMA, gives us a good visual when he states to think of tests of details as ‘the trees’ and analytical procedures as ‘the forest.’ An auditor is required to conduct analytical procedures at the beginning of an audit during the audit planning phase and at the end of the audit as part of an overall review. Analytical procedures are optional but recommended during substantive testing. In this section, Roger defines analytical procedures, gives some examples, and introduces the handy mnemonic CRAFT for remembering how an auditor may ‘craft’ analytical procedures: Client vs. Industry, Related Accounts, Actual vs. Budget, Financial vs. Non-Financial, and This year vs. Prior. He ends with the following question: Which financial statement, balance sheet or income statement, is better suited for applying analytical procedures, and why? Hint – consider the statement which has more reliably predictable relationships between accounts. See if you get the answer correct as Roger answers this question and more. Two types of details of accounts transactions, balances and disclosures and analytic procedures, that's what we're looking at now. Now what are analytical procedures? That's part of your ICORRIIA. Analytical procedures are the study of data comparisons and relationships. How information's compare or relate relationships. This is based on the anticipation or expectation theory. This deals with ratios, ratio analysis. So what we're looking at is how does the number compare? How does it relate based on the expectation? What did you get versus what did you expect to get? That tells us that you know what? This account may have changed by more or less than we expected. So we're going to do this at the beginning of the audit. We're going to do this at the end of the audit. Because at the beginning, we're going to look at all the clients transactions. So for example, here's let's say X1, here's X2, dollar change, percentage change and we're going to set up maybe parameters. We're going to say, we're looking at all the changes greater than 10,000 dollars and five percent. Now notice, this is because you may have a change in this account by one million dollars but it's only one percent. Well that's reasonable. You may have another that's a 42 percent change but it's only 27 dollars, who cares? Immaterial. What you’re looking for is a 17,000 dollar change. That's maybe nine percent. You know what? That exceeds both 10,000 and five percent. That's something that maybe we didn't expect. So when planning the audit you sit down and you go, you know what? In looking at the changes, this is current year, prior year, PY. So here's current year, here's PY which means prior year. You know what? This change is bigger than we expected, then we anticipated. So what we need to do is go back and go, you know? It changed by more than we thought. Is that reasonable? Or could there be a mistake? At the end of the audit you do the same thing. Because as I mentioned earlier, this is called test of details. This is when you're looking at the detail and you're looking but the problem is you get lost when you can't see the forest for the trees. Because you're in the detail of the trees. Step back and see the whole forest and go, in the details of the trees, this one transaction, let me ask questions, let me confirm, let me observe, let me recalculate, let me re-perform it, let me look at the document, look at the assets, let me do that on this one transaction but when you step back and the whole account balance you go, does this make sense? Does this change seem reasonable? That's comparing. That is relationships. So the comparison, relationships, anticipation, expectation, ratio analysis. That's an important concept, ratio analysis.

esearch Methods FCS 681 Research Methods Exercise #3: Sampling 1. A researcher plans a study of housing quality of low-income households in Y County, CA. He needs a sample of 500 households to accomplish his purpose. He ascertains from the Y county Housing Authority that there are 5,000 households living in public housing (requiring low income for eligibility) in the county. He obtains a list of these households\u2019 names and addresses, numbers them from 1 to 5,000, and chooses 500 of these households using a computer-generated list of random numbers. He tries to collect data from these 500 households via a mailed questionnaire. a. To what population does this researcher wish to generalize? b. What is the sampling frame in this study? c. What type of sampling does this researcher do (be precise)? d. Describe the chance that each household in the sampling frame has of ending up in the sample. e. How well does this sampling frame reflect his stated population? Why? f. What could he do if he wanted to improve the external validity of the research? 2. A researcher wants to study L.A. public university seniors\u2019 career choices and plans to collect data from CSUN, UCLA, and CSULA. The researcher receives permission to use the registration records on the three campuses. CSUN has 8,000 seniors, UCLA has 10,000 seniors, and CSULA has 5,000 seniors. He needs 500 seniors in his study, so on each campus\u2019s list, he randomly picks a name to start with and then selects each r th senior on the list until he has 500 seniors drawn. a. What is the theoretical population to which the researcher wishes to generalize? b. What is the accessible population in this study? c. What type of sampling plan does this study utilize (be precise)? d. What is the value of r in that the researcher should use (show your work)? e. What is the number of seniors that will be obtained from each campus? f. Describe the chance that each senior has of ending up in this sample. g. What is the advantage of this sa

Kate's favourite foods: what the Duchess likes to eat.

05:39
Kate's favourite foods: what the Duchess likes to eat. Whether sampling local dishes during official engagements or discovering world cuisines when enjoying royal tours, the Duchess of Cambridge has often given fans a glimpse of her foodie side. Although Kate rarely opens up about her daily diet, she has unveiled some of her favourite dishes, whether admitting to a love of spicy food or being spotted snacking on popcorn during a basketball game. When it comes to cooking itself, the mother-of-two remains modest about her culinary skills, and has even poked fun at her own cooking. "William has to put up with my cooking most of the time," she was heard quipping to a group of chefs last year when she and William attended a gala dinner. Her husband was quick to chime in, joking: "It's the reason I'm so skinny!" That doesn't mean the Duchess doesn't know a thing or two in the kitchen – after all, she famously served up her grandmother's chutney as a Christmas gift to the Queen, showing off her thoughtful side. We take a look at some of Kate's favourite foods and what she's been known to like to eat… Prince William and Kate and their wedding guests dined on a saddle of organic lamb after they tied the knot in 2011, but it's not the only time the royal couple have been spotted opting for a dish with the meat. While attending the Taste of British Columbia Food Festival in 2016, William and Kate headed to chef Vikram Vij's stand where they sampled some of his 'Wine-Marinated Lamb Popsickles in Fenugreek Cream Curry', which he renamed 'Maharajah's Lamb Popsicles' for the purpose of their visit.

Hiding In Plain Sight – College Students In Recovery | Nico Doorn | TEDxVanderbiltUniversity

11:37
No one plans to become addicted. But it happened to me. After struggling through years of failure, regret, and lost dreams, I found recovery. Entering college as a student in recovery, however, was another matter. Sobriety and college life simply do not go together. Little did I know, there are on-campus programs – “Collegiate Recovery Communities” – that bring together students like myself. Despite their success in terms of preventing relapse, increasing GPAs, retention, and graduation rates, few have heard of Collegiate Recovery Communities. Few have heard of them because we do not talk openly about the truth of addiction and the potential of finding recovery, even as a college student. Tens of thousands of students across our nation are practicing a recovery lifestyle and it is time we create a campus climate that accepts them through normalization and open dialogue. Acknowledging the problem of addiction is not enough, we must embrace the solution of Collegiate Recovery Communities and support the amazing students within them. Nico Doorn M.Ed., LCDCI is the Director of Recovery Services for Alpha 180, America’s first sober fraternity, located in Austin, TX. Alpha 180 provides newly sober clients a platform to enter higher education in a supportive environment including residential, clinical, and social programming. Before relocating to Austin, Nico served as an Outreach Coordinator for Cumberland Heights Treatment Center in Nashville, TN. Simultaneously, he was completing a graduate degree in Human Development Studies at Vanderbilt University where he served as the graduate assistant for Vanderbilt Recovery Support. During his involvement, this Collegiate Recovery Program grew in its reach and offerings receiving local and national attention. Nico’s addiction treatment experience spans from young adult specific program formulation to ground-up recovery residence development and leadership. He spent the last 3 years serving on the board of the Tennessee Alliance of Recovery Residences. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery | Beer Guys Radio Craft Beer Podcast #128

44:02
Hardywood Park is determined to 'Brew With Purpose' Hardywood Park Craft Brewery's founders Eric McKay and Patrick Murtaugh have known each other most of their lives. After sampling some homebrew on a farm in Australia the stage was set. After many years working in the craft beer industry, they were destined to open their own brewery. McKay became Richmond, Virginia's first Certified Cicerone and while attending brewing school Murtaugh found out his family's brewing history goes back several generations. From the time they opened in 2011, Hardywood Park has strived to 'Brew With Purpose.' They implement that mantra in their recipes, employee and customer relations, brewing with local ingredients, and minimizing their impact on the environment. The brewery has grown to include three locations and expanded distribution offering a huge variety of styles and variants. Their sought-after Gingerbread Stout taught them about dealing with hordes of consumers and is still anticipated each year. McKay and Murtaugh visited the Beer Guys Radio studios on their recent Atlanta market launch. We sampled several of their beers while talking about their history, brewery growth, keeping up with demand, future expansion plans, brewing for Broadway, Brian shares a terrible collaboration suggestion, and we invent the Candall™. In the news, Brian gives us the scoop on ABInBev dirty tactics, NOFX acting foolish and getting the boot from beer sponsors, and Boston Beer Co.'s big fines in New York.
