✅The best jobs no longer go to the best candidates. Times have changed. They now go to the people with the best strategies. We transformed over 5,000 careers. Join me at LIG and let me show you how yours will be the next career transformed; http://lig.academy Welcome to this week's episode where I make project management simple for you. To make it applicable to the majority of the audience, I am teaching Project Management Institute's (PMI) project management framework. ________________________________________________ Textbooks and frameworks are always boring. So, to make project management more interesting for you, I ran a project to demonstrate what steps to take and when. You won't regret spending 50 minutes to learn the basics of a wonderful practice called project management. You can also download all the templates I used in the session here (no need to register); https://thecareermastery.com/career-tips/project-management-simplified/ Although I strongly recommend you watch the entire session without skipping, for those of you who are just looking for snippets of information, you may find below the index of the video; 03:03 What is a project, program, and portfolio and how are they different from operations? 04:08 Project = Project Life Cycle + Project Management Process 04:43 Project Life Cycle 06:52 Process Groups 09:27 LIG, PMP certification or CAPM certification, which one is right for you? [Hint: I am biased!] 11:53 Process Groups - Initiation 13:06 Process Groups - Initiation - Project Charter 16:50 Process Groups - Initiation - Stakeholder Identification 18:17 Process Groups - Planning 20:30 Process Groups - Planning - Collecting Requirements 22:45 Process Groups - Planning - Defining the Scope 24:41 Process Groups - Planning - Scope Baseline 25:12 Process Groups - Planning - Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) 32:22 Process Groups - Planning - WBS Dictionary & Scope Creep 34:39 Process Groups - Planning - Time Management / Developing a Schedule 36:00 Process Groups - Planning - Gantt Chart 37:38 Process Groups - Planning - Fast Tracking a Project & Project Crashing 38:52 Process Groups - Planning - Cost Management 39:42 Process Groups - Planning - Budget development (for PMP or CAPM takers) 41:02 Process Groups - Executing 42:04 Process Groups - Executing - Gold Plating 43:16 Process Groups - Monitoring and Controlling 45:00 Process Groups - Monitoring and Controlling - Earned Value 47:57 Process Groups - Closing Process Group _______________________________________________________________ What is even a project? It definitely has a sexy tone to it right? Project… I just love the way it sounds. I wonder how cool it must sound in French. Proje… Well, project is a temporary endeavor to create a unique solution. Yeah that’s operations. No Well, the difference between a project and operations is fairly simple. A project ends. So, it’s temporary. You implement your project, you close it, you create a unique product/service/ or whatever outcome you wanted then you are done. Whereas in operations, it’s on-going and repetitive. You may have also heard about the terms program and portfolio. Let me just quickly explain them here. Program is multiple projects put together. Combined. And Portfolio is similarly. Multiple programs put together. So, it’s project, program, portfolio. Now before I go further, and dive deep. You need to understand something crucial. To run any project, you need 2 methodologies. The first one is a project life cycle and the second one is project management process. Most people confuse these 2. And if these are not clear, you can kiss the PMP certification goodbye. It’s absolutely amazing how many content creators in YouTube confuse these two. They are not interchangeable. You cannot afford to confuse a project life cycle with a project management process. Don’t worry I am going to make it very simple for you. Let’s start with Project Life Cycle. Project Life Cycle is unique to a project, to an industry, to your needs. It’s highly customizable. Think of it like this; a human development is a project. So, your life cycle is; 1) Conceiving 2) Birth 3) Childhood 4) Teenage hood. Teenage hood. Is that a word? Teenaging? 5) Adulthood 6) And death Easy stuff right? So, now if it was an IT project. I am not an IT but it would like something like this; High-level design Detailed Design Coding Testing Installation And Turnover This is project life cycle. The term cycle is a bit confusing here. I think. But who knows. This video covers; project management project management institute pmp project management professional certification project life cycle project management PMI managing a project project management fundamentals fundamentals of project management project management for beginners project management course

It's time for Anna to develop Tip Top Trading's European marketing strategy but where should she begin? Her boss, Paul, doesn't have a clue so it's down to Anna to work out what to do. Listen in to find out what her plan is and how she sets out to manage the project of securing a deal with a French company. For more English at Work: http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/features/english-at-work TRANSCRIPT Narrator Oh dear. Do you remember that Tom and Anna are locked in the stationery cupboard? What are they going to do? And what will people say when they are discovered in there? I have a feeling we're about to find out… Denise Goodness, what's that? Anna is that you? And is that you Tom? Anna Yes, help! We're locked in. Denise Don't panic, I've got the key. There. How on earth… Tom …it's not how it looks Denise. We were just… erm… Anna …just looking for envelopes. Denise Really?! Anna Yes, yes, really. The door slammed shut and locked from the inside when Tom walked in. Tom Yeah, she's right. Just walked in, and shut the door and bang. Denise Hmm. Let's just keep it our little secret shall we. (Aside to Anna) I thought you had better taste Anna! Paul Ah there you are Anna, I need a word with you… Oh, you look like you've been caught doing something you shouldn't! Ha ha. Anna …but I haven't. Paul Just joking Anna. Now could you step in to my office, we need to touch base about the European marketing strategy. Anna Are we playing baseball?! Narrator No Anna! Touch base. He wants to catch up with you, probably to see how you're getting on. Go on Anna, let's see what he has to say. Anna Oh I see. That door doesn't lock does it? Paul No, I don't think so. Right Anna. Biscuit? These new peanut ones are quite nice. So how are things with the project? Anna Well, I've done some cold calling and have an order from a company in France. Paul I see. Very impressive but have they signed on the dotted line yet? Anna The dotted line? Paul Have they actually signed the contract yet? Anna Well, no, but… Paul …that's the problem. There's a rival company who's also targeting the European market called Tutti Fruity - and they'll do anything to steal our customers. Anna Oh I see. Paul So, to keep our head above water, we need a clear strategy… and that's why I've put you in charge. So what shall we do? Narrator I've a feeling Paul hasn't a clue – that's why he wants you to come up with the ideas. Anna I think you're right – but I don't know what to say. Narrator Tell him we need to price the rivals out of the market, that means offer the lowest prices so nobody wants to buy plastic fruit from our rivals. You could say that we need to corner the market, that means Tip Top Trading dominates the plastic fruit market. Anna Oh, thanks. That's very useful. Paul So Anna, any thoughts? Anna Lots Paul. I think we've got to compete on price. Paul Oh yes? Anna We need to price Tutti Fruity out of the market. We need to corner the market so that everyone knows we are the best choice for good quality, good value plastic fruit. Paul I like it! Anna And… and… Narrator Tell him we need to build good relationships with our customers – that means we give them good service. Anna …we need to build good relationships with our customers. Talk to them regularly, send them gifts… go and meet them face to face. Paul Face to face? Yes, great idea – just what I was thinking. If we follow this strategy I reckon there could be a bonus for us all by Christmas. Narrator Well done Anna. Very convincing. If you can put your ideas into practice you'll save the company. Let's remind ourselves of the words you used to create the European marketing strategy… We've got to compete on price. We need to price the rivals out of the market. We need to corner the market. We need to build good relationships with our customers. Narrator Well, things seem to be going well for Anna… or are they? Denise Anna! Anna! That man from France has called again and left a message. He's not happy this time. Something about us trying to rip them off! Anna What? Rip them off? Denise It means over charging them or giving them poor quality goods. Anna That's not fair. I'm going to have to sort this out. Narrator That's it Anna – go and build a good relationship with your customer! Bye for now.

I created this video overview of PBL for the teachers at my school. We implemented a new program in the elementary school that uses this effective teaching approach. Here are some video examples of PBL projects we have done so far: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYyk4fLjIwR8UD-s91xJxagsmEqK7CgUG Update #1: I also want to mention that the Kindergarten Driving Question was changed during the year. Instead we came up with, "How will you, as an engineer, create a Rube Goldberg machine?" It remains motivating and interesting, and requires core knowledge, but also easier to understand and a little more open-ended. Additionally the PBL 101 Workbook is not available anymore. However you can find more PBL workbooks on the BIE.org site. https://shop.bie.org/store-c2.aspx Update #2: We have discarded the Kindergarten unit that used the example driving question shown in the video. We felt that it had a weak PBL scenario as well as a weak connection between the subject areas involved. Instead here are some driving questions we introduced to our students this year. - How can we help our school become environmentally-friendly? (Kinder) - How will you create a nature-inspired tool that can be used during a family activity? (1st Grade) - How can you, as IDEO Toy Lab inventors, create a toy for kindergarten students? (2nd Grade) - How can you develop a city plan that will improve the local community? (2nd Grade) - How can we as architects, design a schoolhouse for a specific region? (3rd Grade) - How can you as engineers design and create an “Apple” recording device for ELLs? (4th Grade) - How will you prepare yourself to become a NASA Martian? (5th Grade) - How will your team of game designers create a Breakout EDU game specifically for younger students? (5th Grade) - How will you as environmental engineers, design, build and market a product that helps the environment? (5th Grade) You can find videos that describe these PBL projects here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYyk4fLjIwR8UD-s91xJxagsmEqK7CgUG OK GO’s music video: https://goo.gl/qwCSK Buck Institute for Education website: www.bie.org Flowchart of a PBL Project: https://goo.gl/tT4iGX Essential Elements of PBL: http://bie.org/about/what_pbl Essential Elements of PBL Checklist: http://goo.gl/9gLbcU

The Trash for Teaching Science Kit Project was inspired by a request from the Intel Corporation for an activity that their employees could do during a conference the company was having in Southern California. Steve Stanton, Executive director for Trash for Teaching recruited science writer and Cal Tech Alumni Dave Zobel to find a way to use industrial trash to help teach students about science. Zobel has thus far developed 4 different lesson plans: Principles of engineering (making a tin-can type telephone), Pathways of Light ( Optics principles including reflection and refraction), Moiré Patterns (examining complex visual patterns from simple textures), and Inductive, Deductive reasoning. The Intel employee activity turned out to be assembling the kits during their conference. The Pasadena Unified School District is in the process of testing the effectiveness of the kits in its science classes. Trash for Teaching (trashforteaching.org), a Los Angeles nonprofit organization, collects manufacturers' castoffs, discards, and overruns and in a variety of ways makes them available for use in art and science projects. Teachers and parents can contact Trash for Teaching about buying materials or kits for use in classrooms and at home. The materials are available at their warehouse or they have a fully stocked "Treasure Truck" can come to a school, park or a home birthday party. This video demonstrates how the new science kits can be used.

Click here for the PowerPoint Presentation: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Flipped-Classroom-A-Teachers-Guide-3820463 The flipped classroom is explained in details for educators new to the flipped model. This lesson first explores the reasons why teachers and schools might want to flip a classroom in the first place. There are several benefits for students and teachers when it comes to a flipped classroom. It is definitely a new take on traditional education. The video continues with an eight step path to flipping a classroom. This path is one of many different ways to use the flipped model. The path basically answers the question of how do you actually flip a classroom. The path includes steps like classroom management, creating a buy in, technology training, curating resources, assigning content, and much more. As the video lesson progresses, a clear understanding of what a flipped classroom will look like to outsiders is presented. The video lesson ultimately finishes up with a look at some of the tools that are necessary to flip a classroom. A lot of these tools include Google apps for education. However, other tools may be helpful as well. This video is part of a larger playlist based on Google Alternative Learning Models, which include a blended classroom, and project based learning. There will be more videos on the flipped classroom as an entire presentation will be given as to the steps and how to actually flip a classroom.

How to manage 15+ Czech five year old kids in your classroom, if you only speak English? It´s easy, no worries. You need a clear and structured lesson plan, you need to be a leader and you need to show a big warm smile. Use body language too and you will succeed. Children love to be surprised, entertained, they love physical activities and once you do all of it, you can introduce and drill any language you like, even comparatives.
