Drinks to Lower Cholesterol. High levels of bad cholesterol and total cholesterol increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. Total cholesterol takes into account levels of both low-density lipoprotein, or bad cholesterol, and high-density lipoprotein, or good cholesterol. According to the Mayo Clinic, your diet plays a critical role in reducing cholesterol levels. Adding particular beverages to your diet may be beneficial. Green Tea Green tea contains the highest levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, several studies show that this beverage can lower LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol levels. It also boosts levels of HDL cholesterol, which sweeps bad cholesterol from your arteries. Researchers believe that green tea’s polyphenols inhibit absorption of cholesterol in the intestines and enhance its excretion from your body. Berry Juice Berries help reduce blood cholesterol levels, but some are more effective than others. In a study conducted by the University of California at Davis, researchers found that fresh berries significantly decreased LDL cholesterol. Blackberries were the most effective, followed by red raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. More research is needed to determine the amount of berries or juice people should consume to lower cholesterol. However, drinking more berry juice on a regular basis may be beneficial. Tart Cherry Juice Tart cherries are loaded with antioxidants that provide several benefits, including reducing cholesterol levels. In a study conducted at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center, rats that received whole tart cherry powder as part of a high-fat diet had significantly lower levels of cholesterol than other rats. Cherry juice is readily available at supermarkets and natural health stores. However, you can also make your own at home using dried cherries or cherry powder. Ginger Tea Ginger has been used medicinally for centuries to treat health problems such as nausea and diarrhea. Preliminary studies also indicate that it may also help lower cholesterol and prevent atherosclerosis, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, which recommends not consuming more than 4g of ginger daily. Caution While green tea and ginger tea are generally safe, in some cases they may cause side effects. For instance, drinking too much green tea may cause insomnia, dizziness or irritability. Ginger tea may cause heartburn or stomach upset. Also, these drinks can interact with certain medications. Consult your doctor about consuming these drinks to control your cholesterol levels.

However, most of the nutrients, antioxidants and half the essential amino acids (protein) are also found in the yolk. The problem is when you COOK the yolk - such as hard-boiled, scrambled and fried eggs. The heat oxidizes the egg and damages both the structure of the protein and fat. So the healthiest way to eat eggs is raw or lightly cooked, so the yolk is still runny. Don’t fry it with butter or vegetable fats. And make sure it’s organic, free-range eggs. The tea known as Pu-erh or Yunnan Tuocha has been coveted for over 2000 years for its preventative and curative properties. This special tea originates from the Yunnan Province of China. Pu-erh Tea has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for generations for the removal of toxins from the body, curing dysentery, weight loss, improving eyesight, promoting blood circulation and reviving those who have over indulged in alcohol. Studies have shown that pu-erh tea significantly suppresses fatty acid synthesis (FAS). This means that it can literally block your body from producing more fat. The process of lipogenesis (creation of fat by the liver) is weakened by using this tea. On top of that, the caffeine found in pu-erh triggers your body to secrete the hormones (epinephrine and norepinephrine) which are shown to increase mobilization of stored fatty acids in fat cells. This enables your body to have easier access to use those stored fatty acids as fuel. Lastly, pu-erh has been clinically proven to enhance cellular levels of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) which effectively blocks visceral fat accumulation. HSL is a critical enzyme that “unlocks” fat cells so that their contents can be emptied out. In a French study conducted on Pu-erh tea at the ARMA Medical Research Association, Dr. Tran Dai-Sy and his team found that out of 350 study subjects, 299 subjects successfully achieved weight loss with a regular diet supplemented by a cup of Pu-erh tea per day. The extent of the weight loss was a staggering 5-10 pounds per subject over a span of two months. To achieve best possible results, follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly in addition drink pu-erh tea about an hour after each meal to reduce the amount of fat that is retained and stored from your meal. Recently, researchers have taken interest in Pu-erh tea for its ability to reduce cholesterol, lower blood pressure, protect connective tissue, and its ability to attack free radicals within the body. At China`s Kunming Medical College, another study that consisted of 86 patients with unusually high levels of blood cholesterol examined the differences in the treatment of patients with Pu-erh tea verses conventional cholesterol medication. 55 of the patients were given a regimented dose of pu-erh tea three times a day; the other 31 were given a cholesterol lowering drug 3 times a day. At the end of a two month period, the patients drinking the Pu-erh tea showed a 64.29% reduction in blood cholesterol levels in comparison to 66.67% for the group taking the medication. Cholesterol is not the only benefit that pu-erh tea has to offer though. In 2006, a study found that it has anti-aging and anti-cancerous properties by attacking free radicals within the body as well as actively protecting human fibroblast cells (connective tissue) from damage and deterioration The tea`s cultivation can be traced as far back as the Han Dynasty (202 BCE-220 CE) and was made from the leaves of da ye or broad leaf tea. The leaves of this variety of old wild tea tree when picked, are taken and put through a process of delicate maturation that ends in the creation of what is called maocha. This maocha, meaning "rough tea", is then taken and put through one of two processes.
