Today's review is for the Spicy Sweet Double Stacked Taco from Taco Bell. Help Support TheReportOfTheWeek With Patreon - http://bit.ly/1Q2g9zX A SPICY SWEET DAYDREAM Blaze your own trail. You’re driving, and hit another fork in the road. “What do I do?” you ask yourself. That’s when you start to hear them. One voice saying take the safe route. The other telling you to try something different. With the new Spicy Sweet Double Stacked Taco, you get the best of both roads without the stress of choosing between the Sweet Chili or Spicy Habanero sauces you crave. A combination so good, you’ll forget you were day dreaming as you miss your exit and find, there it is, another fork in the road. https://www.tacobell.com/food/tacos/double-stacked-tacos-spicy-sweet Taco Bell Adds Double Stacked Tacos For $1 Taco Bell just announced the addition of a new Dollar Menu item that left our mouths watering. The fast food chain just announced their new Double Stacked Tacos, which will be rolling out nationally in a few days. Made with both a hard tortilla and a soft tortilla, the Double Stacked Taco's two shells are held together with a different flavor of sauce. The new menu item will be available in three flavors: Cool Habanero, Sweet & Spicy, and Cheddar Crunch. We ordered one up featuring a Doritos Locos Taco shell and it tasted pretty awesome. Getting a DLR hard shell, however, will result in a 20-cent uncharge. A small price to pay for some leveled-up goodness. You can find the new Double Stacked Tacos at participating Taco Bell locations on Dec. 22. http://www.foodbeast.com/news/tb-doublestacked-tacos/ Feds propose an Amtrak stop at the Philly Airport and greatly speeding up regional service A new plan for railroad service on the East Coast includes an Amtrak stop at Philadelphia International Airport and improvements that could help the region’s railroads run faster and more reliably. The NEC Future project, announced Friday by the Federal Railroad Administration, would also straighten the Frankford Curve, north of 30th Street Station, where an Amtrak train derailed in May 2015, killing eight people. A trip from Philadelphia to Washington would take an hour and 20 minutes, 20 minutes less than today. Getting to New York City would take 55 minutes, 15 fewer than now. The recommendations -- part of a $120 billion, 30-year plan for the 457-mile Northeast Corridor -- were four years in the making, and would bring more goodies from Boston to Washington: a long-awaited rail tunnel expansion under the Hudson River, Amtrak service between New Haven, Conn., and Springfield, Mass., and faster, more frequent trains between the East Coast’s metro areas. Experts called the plan groundbreaking, marking the first time the FRA had offered a unified vision across the eight states served by the nation's most heavily traveled rail corridor. "There’s no doubt this is the first time anything of this scope has been done," said Bruce Becker, vice president of operations for the National Association of Railroad Passengers. "It is the first time there’s been a global approach." Andrew Bata, North American regional manager for UITP, an international railroad trade group, said the plan took East Coast rail a step closer to the kind of high-speed service common in Europe. "It’s about time we think globally for high speed or fast train service in the U.S.," he said. "We are way behind the world." http://www.philly.com/philly/business/transportation/Airport-Amtrak-stop-higher-speed-service-recommended-for-Philly-rail.html

Today's review is for the Beefy Nacho Griller from Taco Bell. Help Support TheReportOfTheWeek With Patreon - http://bit.ly/1Q2g9zX ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Information: Taco Bell's new restaurants are unrecognizable Taco Bell has redesigned some of its restaurants. The company rolled out four new store models — "modern explorer," "California sol," "heritage" and "urban edge" — and they look nothing like the fast-food chain we know. The four new restaurants, which recently debuted in Orange County, California, are all pretty similar to one another. The chain plans to roll out the new designs nationally. They feature open kitchens and lounge seating areas with rustic wood and metal finishes, as well as fancy lighting fixtures and chandeliers that look like they came from Restoration Hardware. Here's how the company describes each model: Heritage : "Inspired by its culinary roots in Mexican-inspired food with a twist, this style is a modern interpretation of Taco Bell’s original Mission Revival style characterized by warm white walls with classic materials in the tile and heavy timbers." Modern explorer : "This rustic modern style is a refined version of the brand’s Cantina Explorer restaurants and can easily fit into a suburban or rural environment. Inspired by the farms that make our food, this style reinforces Taco Bell’s commitment to the best ingredients, authenticity and transparency of materials and dining preparation." California sol : "Inspired by Taco Bell’s California roots and the California lifestyle, this design blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor. It’s a celebration of dining al fresco and embraces a laid-back beachy feel both inside and out." http://www.businessinsider.com/taco-bell-has-redesigned-its-restaurants-2016-10 Yum Brands CEO: About half US population eats Taco Bell every month YUM's new plan for growth: CEO Yum's new plan for growth: CEO Wednesday, 12 Oct 2016 | 8:05 AM ET | 02:10 "Taco Bell is doing well. We had a great quarter ... [and] five years of really good same store sales growth," Creed said on "Squawk Box," a day after a series of investor day announcements, including a goal of being 98 percent franchised by the end of 2018. Taco Bell has no plans to change to be more like Chipotle, Creed said. "They're very different brands," he explained, adding Taco Bell has not necessarily benefited from the food safety scares at Chipotle. At Yum, which also owns KFC, Pizza Hut needs a major overhaul. "Of the three brands, it's the one we've got the most to do," Creed said. "We've got to make [Pizza Hut] more relevant and distinctive," he added, stressing the importance of putting in place tech improvements to make it easier to get pizzas to consumers. "People want easier and better." "The proof is, we turned around our KFC U.S. business, which two years ago everyone had written off," Creed said. "We can do the same for Pizza Hut. I think it's a real growth story." Shares of Yum Brands were up about 20 percent so far this year, as of Tuesday's close. http://www.cnbc.com/2016/10/12/yum-brands-ceo-about-half-us-population-eats-taco-bell-every-month.html Still no arrests in murder of 49-year-old man at Lorain Taco Bell LORAIN, OH (WOIO) - There are still no arrests in the murder of Robert Gnizak, the 49-year-old man who was shot to death in an attempted robbery at a Taco Bell drive-thru on Aug. 14. Gnizak was killed around 11:03 p.m. at the Taco Bell at 3671 Oberlin Ave. According to his obituary, he was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1986 to 1990. He is survived by his wife, his brother and several nieces and nephews. The suspect is a black male, thin to medium build and 6' tall, police say. He was wearing yellow or tan camouflage pants and a matching shirt and baseball cap. Witnesses say he fled the scene on foot. It may seem like a weird brand to be presenting to video creators at a conference but in fact the company has been collaborating with the YouTube world for some time now, setting a great example for how you can also incorporate this strategy with your online presence. Tune in to see what we discussed about Taco Bell's video strategy as well as the social media platforms they're using to communicate with their audience. In this interview learn how Taco Bell strategized their online presence in the following areas: Joining the YouTube community and finding ways to collaborate with video creators to better connect with their audience. Using Twitter as a way to communicate and listen to the brand's fans rather than a platform for a soapbox of promotional activity. Notice how many @replies and retweets are displayed on Taco Bell's account when you first visit. How YouTube and Twitter seem to work together in terms of sharing and connecting alongside content. The power of nostalgia when posting to Facebook. Love how he calls Facebook the place to connect with "friends you already have". How long have I been saying this?! And then of course the tough question of working in the food industry and responding to negative feedback. How does Taco Bell handle social disappointment? Thanks to Nick for taking the time to share this valuable information. What do you think about Taco Bell's social presence? Is there something you can see is clearly working for them that would work for you as well? Let's talk about it in the comments and see what ideas we can come up with!

Good news for those of you who subsist entirely on Taco Bell! (And for those of us at Tasted, who subsist on telling you ABOUT Taco Bell!) Everyone’s “favorite” taco chain will start home delivery! YAY!!! Subscribe: http://goo.gl/Z7lbS Apparently, there was huge demand for home delivery from Taco Bell - it was the top request in their customer survey, even above “Ruffles Locoos Tacos”*** So, The Bell is going to start thinking outside the bun, and inside a 2-mile delivery radius. They’re also expanding their catering services, which is notable, because Taco Bell Catering seems like it should be some sort of mutually exclusive term. ***Not an actual customer request. That we know of. Taco Bell is also made news** when they announced that the popular** Mountain Dew Baja Blast flavor that was available for a limited time last year will be sold in Taco bell stores. This is all part of new Taco Bell CEO Brian Niccol’s plan to “ignite the unexpected” We’re not sure “ignite” and Taco Bell” are concepts we like to think about in the same sentence. **Not strictly correct uses of these words. Are you going to get Taco Bell delivery as soon as it hits your area? What’s your preferred method of “igniting the unexpected”? This Cinco de Mayo we're running for the border and taking a look at the business of Taco Bell. With all of the talk about how fast food chains like McDonald's are struggling The Bell is beating the odds. Denise Lee Yohn, author of 'What Great Brands Do' says Taco Bell has been on a tear lately in terms of innovations and excitement, and is now known for crazy fun food. Yohn says it really kicked into high gear a few years ago with the introduction of the Doritos Locos Tacos, which now comes in several varieties. The Locos Tacos aren't just a fun product, they're also a huge hit. Taco Bell claims to have sold over a billion of them---making Doritos Locos Tacos the most successful launch in company history. Next up? Fritos Tacos. Yohn says Taco Bell has also nailed it with their breakfast menu and a marketing campaign directed at their target audience: young people. She says their waffle taco and biscuit taco are really fun products, and they've also boosted the Bell's bottom line. Just two weeks ago, Taco Bell reported a 6% jump in same store sales. Taco Bell is owned by Yum Brands which also owns KFC and Pizza Hut. Yohn says those two brands are struggling ---with most of their growth overseas--whereas Taco Bell has been the star of the company, showing year-on-year sales growth and doing a good job overall. Her only concern? That Taco Bell doesn't expand too quickly by introducing too many products or opening too many restaurants--a problem that has slowed down service and diluted the brand experience at some of the other fast food chains. --ALISON MORRIS

America has an obesity problem, but there are more 200,000 fast foods restaurants dotted throughout the country. Customers have been moving towards places with healthier menus, and many traditional chains are adding items to address this. I tried eating these "healthy" fast foods for an entire week. I had every meal at McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Burger King, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts or Chick-fil-A. Tech Insider tells you all you need to know about tech: gadgets, how-to's, gaming, science, digital culture, and more. Subscribe to our channel and visit us at: http://www.businessinsider.com/sai TI on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/techinsider TI on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tech_insider/ TI on Twitter: https://twitter.com/techinsider -------------------------------------------------- Following is the transcript of the video: Kevin Reilly: Fast food is cheap and convenient. But hidden in between the burgers and tacos are some "healthy" options: salads, grilled chicken, yogurts, oatmeal, power burritos. Doesn't sound too bad, right? I spent a week eating nothing but these "healthy" fast foods and I lost six-and-a-half pounds. But even though I lost about a pound a day, it didn't really go well. I live in New York City, a place with every possible food you could want. Eating healthy here, it's a breeze. But across America, there are more than 200,000 fast food joints, and they're bringing in more than $200 billion a year in sales. And no matter where you go, you're never far from a place like McDonald's or Taco Bell. But in recent years, consumers want better, healthier choices, and the traditional fast food places have been losing customers to those fast casual healthy options. The rules were pretty simple: Eat every major meal at a national fast food chain and stick to the healthy options. McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Dunkin' Donuts, Subway, and Chick-fil-A; nothing but them for a week. Yeah, I lost almost seven pounds, but let's take a close look at the numbers. On a normal day, I'm eating around 2,500 calories. An adult man should be having about 2,400 to 2,600 calories a day. But on this fast food plan, my calories plummeted. Most of these meals came in under 400 calories, and that was one of my first problems. I'd eat and just a couple hours later, I was starving. And I had days when I didn't eat more than 1,000 calories. Now, some of these meals were really good. My favorite was this grilled chicken market salad from Chick-fil-A. It had blueberries, strawberries, apples; it was delicious and it was actually healthy. However, a lot of the other salads from Burger King, McDonald's, and Wendy's were loaded with salt, often more than 50% of what I needed for the entire day, from a salad. In fact, excess salt was a problem the entire week. I thought I had hit the jackpot with Taco Bell's al Fresco menu. They take off all the cheese and mayo-based sauces and replace it with lettuce and pico de gallo. One night I got tacos, another night I got a power cantina burrito, and these were meals with more protein than usual. So, I felt like I was getting enough food. They were good, too good. It was all salt. In fact, just one burrito had almost as much salt as I needed in just one day. The American Heart Association says we should limit our sodium to about 2,300 milligrams a day, but the ideal is closer to 1,500 milligrams a day, especially for a person like me with high blood pressure. But if you look at my sodium intake, it was high every day, yet I was barely getting the calories I needed. If I wanted to keep the sodium down, I was starving. If I wanted to feel full, salt through the roof. You see, that's an issue in the fast food industry. Wendy's even acknowledges on their website that there's going to be a trade-off between salt and flavor. It was weird. I didn't feel healthy at all throughout the week, even though I was eating healthy foods and losing weight. And on the last day, I had this massive headache that was just infuriating. These places, they're supposed to be tasty, cheap, and convenient. But it wasn't cheap. Every healthy option was expensive, but left me hungry. For eight grilled nuggets and this tiny kale salad at Chick-fil-A, $12. For the power Mediterranean salad at Wendy's, it was almost $8, yet I could get a cheeseburger, nuggets, fries, and a soda for only $4. That brings me to another problem. Walk into McDonald's and you get hit with that sweet, sweet french fry smell, and I had to get a salad. Would I recommend this to anyone? Nope, unless you're stuck on the road with no other options. Though there was a bright spot: breakfast at Subway. They have these egg-white-and-cheese sandwiches, which I got covered in spinach and peppers. And let me tell you, it was good. But after all this, I just want a cheeseburger.

Statement: McDonalds. Wendy's. Taco Bell. Burger King. All are common fast food names that spend billions of dollars annually on marketing efforts. This video helps to show the differences, but also the similarities in their marketing techniques and their target markets. In a world full of political correctness, these videos surprisingly target individuals, genders and races in their promotions. With Burger King, they strictly focused on male dominance and its correlation to beef. The song entitled "I AM MAN" gave a clear picture as to whom and what the commercial was about. McDonald's used a popular party song and a young child to promote its children's happy meals. Taco Bell focused on the business employee with an emphasis on vacation. Wendy's used its chicken nuggets to display the grotesque process that other fast food chains use to produce their nuggets. All four of these companies are quick serve restaurants and compete for market share daily. The advertising that each company uses displays its interest in different target markets and the strategy that it applies to reach out to these individuals. This video is used to show the power of fast food chains and the different advertisements that entice our nation's individuals daily, regardless of how poor the food is for us. Residents in Romulus, Michigan along with the mayor and members of the chamber of Commerce recently gathered together as part of a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of a Taco Bell franchise. While it may not seem like a big deal to out of town folks, but to locals, they're hoping the restaurant will pave the way for more business growth. In some towns, it doesn't take much to keep residents happy. Take the suburban area of Romulus, about 25 miles outside of Detroit Michigan, for example. Dwellers along with the mayor and members of the chamber of Commerce recently gathered together as part of a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of a Taco Bell franchise. The fast food establishment is located on 9920 S. Wayne Road and its situated right next to the local high school, leaving not only adults happy but adolescent kids who don't possess a license yet. The Mayor LeRoy Burcroff stated "I've been involved in city government for 16 years and served on the Planning Commission for eight of those years. Of all the developments during that time, this is the one my kids are most excited about." The restaurant, which has a contemporary, more upscale interior design, employs approximately 40 people, the majority of whom are Romulus residents. The eatery which is open until 2 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and even later on Fridays and Saturdays may not seem like a big deal to out of town folks, but locals are hoping the restaurant will pave the way for more business growth.

A subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., they serve a variety of Tex-Mex foods including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, other specialty items, and a variety of "value menu" items. Taco Bell serves more than 2 billion customers each year in more than 6,500 restaurants mostly in the U.S., more than 80 percent of which are owned and operated by independent franchisees. Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell, who first opened a hot dog stand called Bell's Drive-In in San Bernardino, California in 1946 when he was 23 years old. In 1950, he opened Bell's Hamburgers and Hot Dogs in San Bernardino's West Side barrio. According to Gustavo Arellano, author of Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America, Bell watched long lines of customers at a Mexican restaurant called the Mitla Cafe, located across the street, which attracted a dedicated customer base for its hard-shelled tacos. Bell began eating there regularly, attempting to reverse-engineer the recipe, and eventually won the confidence of the proprietors such that they allowed him to see how the tacos and other foods were prepared. In late 1951 or early 1952, he took what he had learned and opened a new stand, this time selling tacos under the name of Taco-Tia. Cap'n Crunch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cap%27n_Crunch Cap'n Crunch is a product line of corn and oat breakfast cereals introduced in 1963 and manufactured by Quaker Oats Company, a division of PepsiCo since 2001. The cereal was developed to recall a recipe with brown sugar and butter over rice, and the cereal required innovation of a special baking process as it was one of the first cereals to use an oil coating to deliver its flavoring. Pamela Low, a flavorist at Arthur D. Little and 1951 graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a microbiology degree, developed the original Cap'n Crunch flavor in 1963 — recalling a recipe of brown sugar and butter her grandmother Luella Low served over rice at her home in Derry, New Hampshire. Before developing the flavor, the cereal already had a marketing plan, and once having arrived at the flavor coating for Cap'n Crunch, Low described it as giving the cereal a quality she called "want-more-ishness". After her death in 2007, the Boston Globe called Low "the mother of Cap'n Crunch." At Arthur D. Little, Low had also worked on the flavors for Heath, Mounds and Almond Joy candy bars. In 1965, the Quaker Oats Company awarded Robert Rountree Reinhart, Sr., the Fredus N. Peters Award for his leadership in directing the development team of Cap'n Crunch. Reinhart developed a technique in the manufacture of Cap'n Crunch, using oil in its recipe as a flavor delivery mechanism — which initially presented problems in having the cereal bake properly.
