Feeling Safe, Being Safe, a close captioned DVD, illustrates the importance of being prepared in case of an emergency and how anyone can create a personalized plan in their own home to feel safe and be safe. Emergencies and disasters happen every day and many people are not ready to respond. Feeling Safe, Being Safe tools show how to make your plan, connect with your community members and create a home emergency kit. Members of the Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) for Californias Department of Developmental Services, in partnership with the Board Resource Center (BRC), implemented a three year project called Leadership Through Personal Change to assist Californians with developmental disabilities to live by the motto: My Life, My Way! In the course of their work, they established and practiced a straightforward decision-making process called Think-Plan-Do to demonstrate how to create a goal, make plans, and take action to succeed. In the aftermath of natural disasters in the United States and around the world and the serious consequences felt by many, the CAC turned attention to creating ways to help all people be confident in their ability to carry out individualized plans to be better prepared. Using the Think-Plan-Do methodology, the CAC insisted emergency preparedness instructions and tools be user friendly, if they are to be effective. With CAC guidance, BRC developed and field-tested a DVD (close-captioned), Worksheet, Magnet and teaching curriculum - the package of Feeling Safe, Being Safe instructional materials. Since its launch by the CAC, Feeling Safe, Being Safe has been presented at national and international conferences and is currently being adopted or adapted for use in other states. The CAC has sponsored and co-produced additional leadership videos viewable on YouTube found by using search word: cac leadership or boardresourcecente. Additional advocacy publications that provide insight on legal rights and strategies are available on the California Department of Developmental Services - Consumer Corner website: www.dds.ca.gov/consumercorner/publicatio ns.cfm The Board Resource Center is about Making Complex Ideas Simple. It adapts complicated written materials and/or difficult-to-understand ideas to develop meaningful tools and trainings that can benefit a range of participants. Specializing in organizational development, community partnerships, facilitation and multi-media products, BRCs work creates avenues for people with diverse abilities to live quality lives and contribute to their communities. It assists organizations to recognize that people with diverse abilities enrich decision making and help build effective governance and connections to local communities. BRC training and publication methods include use of plain language, innovative graphic design, coaching and community engagement. All consultation services reflect customized approaches to meet the needs and interests of individuals, organizations and government entities served. Support New Wellness Living and this 'New Thought Series': Via Paypal: paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=PQRGZ58MG9EDA The Master Key System is a personal development book by Charles F. Haanel that was originally published as a 24-week correspondence course in 1912. It was later published in book form in 1916 by Psychology Publishing, St. Louis and The Master Key Institute, New York. The course is a "practical wrapper" for the seven hermetic principles as laid out in the Kybalion. Each chapter contains a sequentially numbered section to read, which includes an exercise towards the end, followed by a section with questions and answers. Along with "The Science of Getting Rich", by Wallace D. Wattles, the Master Key System is the source of Rhonda Byrne's inspiration for the book and the film "The Secret" (2006). Haanel's reasoning was that thought being energy, and concentrated thought being concentrated energy, concentration would be the key to impact on the subconscious mind, thus aligning the Finite (conscious) with the Infinite (subconscious). This way Haanel created a scientific method for creating (not only) material things through the power of creative visualisation, while placing large emphasis on morality, physical and spiritual cleanliness. Students reading the Master Key System are therefore advised to practice the exercises until full mastery has been accomplished. It's only through the exercises that new skills are obtained, and therefore an ability to effect changes in one's life. Charles F. Haanel was an American author, millionaire, entrepreneur, and businessman who belonged to the Masonic society, Keystone Lodge No. 243, A.F. & A.M., the American Scientific League, The Author’s League of America, The American Society of Psychical Research, the St. Louis Humane Society, and the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce. Works By Charles F. Haanel include: Mental Chemistry The New Psychology A book about You The Amazing Secrets of the Yogi Source: Wikipedia.org

Disabilities impact a person’s ability to cope with life’s challenges and put individuals with disabilities at higher risk for suicide. A youth with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in the Emotional Disturbance category of disability might struggle with a mental health condition that makes suicidal thinking a regular part of school and life struggles. Individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities or other physical limitations also can struggle, and feelings of being excluded or different can contribute to suicidal thought processes. An excerpt of the video contains information about Dr Daniel Siegel presenting a Hand Model of the Brain.
