I share this teaching strategy based on my years of experience in the classroom that has helped me save time and energy. I wish that this was shared with me during my student teaching experience when talking about lesson plan objectives, or at least included in my "tips for new teachers" checklist during my first year. You can always write your teaching objectives on chart paper during a period where you have down time (e.g. winter or summer break). You can then laminate them and save for future use. This teaching strategy has saved me so much time and has allowed me to focus on preparing for other instructional activities.

A training lesson plan (also called a session plan) is an organized description of the activities and resources you'll use to guide a group toward a specific learning objective. A lesson plan is a written record of training. It includes essential content you have identified to meet learning objectives. It details the subject matter that you'll teach, how long each section should take, the methods of instruction for each topic covered, and the measures you'll use to check that people have learned what you needed them to learn.

It is hard to hit a target if you don't aim. It is even harder if you don't know what the target is. Likewise we must have aims and objectives (goals) for our teaching. Jesus had goals.Paul had goals. What are you trying to accomplish when you teach? What do we want our students to know, to feel, and to do as a result of our teaching? Teaching without aims is like a man who starts out on his vacation without knowing where he is going or what he is going to do. A teaching aim is a clear statement of what we hope to accomplish by teaching the lesson. We should write down our aims and objectives on our lesson plan. How does a teacher determine his lesson aims? The teacher should read the Bible text several times, pray, and allow God to impress him with some aims. If the lesson is from a Sunday school curriculum he should consider the aims included in the lesson. He should also consider the needs and interests of his class. By listening to them and observing their behavior both inside and outside of class, he can often see needs that his teaching can meet. He can also learn of these needs by knowing general characteristics of their age group. See what you want to do and direct your activity to accomplish it. Vague lesson aims result in vague teaching. Teaching without clear‑cut aims is probably the greatest weakness of teaching. Aims give direction regarding the changes we want in the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of the students. Aims helps us to avoid rambling and to discriminate between major and minor points of emphasis. Omit activities or materials that won't help us accomplish our aim. Specific aims also provide a sound basis for measurement of progress. Right aims also inspire the worker. Satisfaction will result when the teacher sees goals achieved. Long‑range aims can be broken down into short‑range aims. What a student becomes as a result of the knowledge learned is of far greater important than the content learned. Everything in a lesson, including attention getters, variety, humor, visuals, and activities, should be planned to accomplish the aims. We must not just fill in the time with unrelated material and activities. With the aim clearly in mind, let us teach with the intensity of a basketball player driving for a lay‑up or a football player running for the goal line.

There is a type of lesson planning that makes both curriculum and teachers ready to teach differently. This is a requirement of implementing new standards or strategies, like Common Core. Lesson planning must include creating and aligning classroom materials and formative assessments that represent new and improved teaching. However, too often we run out of time before this finishing work is complete. Though we usually do not find a lot more time for planning, there are processes tools and strategies that leverage the time we have. UbD fans will like how informational text is used as a design element to support reading and writing while improving how we teach content. Formative assessments are pivital to change; they facilitate quality teaching and feedback, provide evidence of new teaching, and provide a means of assessing what worked and what didn't for revisions.

HR Basics is a series of short courses, designed to highlight what you need to know about a particular human resource management topic. In today’s HR Basics, we explore the steps to create and implement a great training lesson plan. A training lesson plan (also called a session plan) is an organized description of the activities and resources you'll use to guide a group toward a specific learning objective. A training lesson plan is an organized description of the activities and resources you'll use to facilitate a training session. Your lesson plan can be as simple as a brief outline, or more complex, with scripts, prompts, and lists of questions that you plan to ask. It's useful to use a standard lesson plan template. A lesson plan template helps you organize material consistently over sessions, and avoid duplicating topics. There are hundreds of options when it comes to lesson plan templates. In your lesson plan, you will pull together your learning: statements (course title, description and objectives), activities (training content, methods and timing), and Materials (resources needed to successfully facilitate) into a document you will use to facilitate your training. A well-crafted training lesson plan provides a facilitator with everything they need to deliver effective training experiences designed to meet the developmental needs of their audience.

In this lesson, you will learn how to develop a lesson plan. In your lesson plan, you will pull together your learning objectives, training content, methods, and resources into a document you will use to facilitate your training. During this lesson, we will define what a lesson plan is, learn how to define learning objectives and outline training content. You will be introduced to the ROPES model for structuring a lesson. Then, you will be introduced to a lesson plan template that will help you develop the content you need to ensure an effective plan for your training session. Lesson plans take time to create, but they ensure that the information you need to teach follows a logical sequence. This will help your students engage with it, and, ultimately, understand and retain it.

After this Video lesson, you will be able to understand • how a focused objective for each lesson impacts the lesson outcome Keywords Learning Objective: outcome statement Measurable: large enough to be measured; noticeable. Attainable: achievable. What are learning objectives? • A learning objective is an outcome statement that should capture specifically what knowledge, skills, attitudes students should be able to show at the end of a course/lesson. • A learning objective is NOT for the teacher to state what she is going to do (e.g., My plan this morning is to talk about), but it is what a student is expected to be able to do (e.g., After this session, you should be able to). • Learning objectives can be written during • Sometimes, a teacher may think that a given activity, for example, problem-solving, requires only one skill, but actually, it is a synthesis of many skills - problem-solving may require defining the parameters of the problem, choosing appropriate formulas, etc. • Thus, breaking down the skills and making them specific will allow the teacher to select appropriate assessments and instructional strategies. • Example: At the end of this lesson, students will be able to list 3 properties of 3-D shapes. • Non-Example: Students will know about 3-D shapes. Measurable • Learning objectives will eventually guide the selection of assessments/test that teacher should use at the end of the lesson. Thus, its important that they are not vague. • Learning objective should point to a clear assessment that can easily check whether students have mastered the skill (e.g., asking students to state a given theorem, giving students a thesis statement to prove, asking students to solve a textbook problem that requires the application of a theorem, or asking students which theorem they would use in a given situation). • Non-example of measurable learning objective - Understand different units of measurements • Example of measurable learning objective - To make the objective measurable, think of what would students do differently if they really understood the different units. Like, "What unit will you use for measuring water vs measuring rice" • Avoid ill-defined terms that are open to variable interpretation (e.g., understand, learn, grasp); use instead terms that describe directly observable behaviors. Attainable • Learning objective should be simple enough to be attainable by the students within the time allowed for the lesson. • Consider the beginning level of understanding/skill of your learners and craft your objective to move them to the next level. Result oriented • When necessary, specify criteria concerning the expected standard of performance. Target oriented • To write target-oriented (i.e. student-centered) objective - try finishing the sentence, "At the end of this unit/week/individual session, students should be able to • Ask yourself whether you want learners to be able to: know, comprehend, apply, analyze, synthesize, or evaluate. These outcomes represent different levels/kinds of thinking. • Use action verbs in objectives to make student learning explicit, and communicate to students the kind of intellectual effort we expect of them. • Examples: State theorems (implies memorization and recall), Prove theorems (implies applying knowledge) • Match learning objective with appropriate teaching/learning strategy Download full ebook here: https://goo.gl/uhqHGq ☛Subscribe here - https://goo.gl/uDVbrF
