Colonoscopy of Sigmoid Colon Cancer
Colorectal cancer (also called cancer of the bowel or bowel cancer). Most cases occur in people aged over 50. If colorectal cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, there is a good chance of a cure. In general, the more advanced the cancer (the more it has grown and spread), the less chance that treatment will be curative. However, treatment can often slow the progress of the cancer. Polyps and colorectal cancer A bowel polyp (adenoma) is a small growth that sometimes forms on the inside lining of the colon or rectum. Most bowel polyps develop in older people. About 1 in 4 people over the age of 50 develop at least one bowel polyp. Polyps are benign (noncancerous) and usually cause no problems. However, sometimes a benign polyp can turn cancerous. If one does turn cancerous, the change usually takes place after a number of years. Most colorectal cancers develop from a polyp that has been present for 5-15 years. What causes colorectal cancer? The exact reason why a cell becomes cancerous is unclear. It is thought that something damages or alters certain genes in the cell. This makes the cell abnormal and multiply out of control. See separate leaflet called 'Cancer - What Causes Cancer?' for more details. Risk factors Although colorectal cancer can develop for no apparent reason, there are certain risk factors which increase the chance that colorectal cancer will develop. Risk factors include: Ageing. Colorectal cancer is more common in older people. Eight out of ten people who are diagnosed with colorectal cancer are older than 60 years. If a close relative has had colorectal cancer (there is some genetic factor). If you have familial adenomatous polyposis or hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer. However, these are rare inherited disorders. If you have ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease (conditions of the colon) for more than 8-10 years. Obesity. Lifestyle factors: little exercise, drinking a lot of alcohol.

Hi there, this series of recordings follows my journey of stage IV bowel cancer. I am hoping to raise awareness of this disease, particularly in younger people. I would also like to share my experiences and stories in order to help others that may go through the same processes. This recording is just a simple introduction and the early indications that something was not quiet right with my bowels. Please feel free to ask me questions and I will try to answer them as best I can. Thanks for watching!! I also have a web blog at https://melsbigc.blog. You can also find me on https://www.facebook.com/MelsBigC/ and https://twitter.com/MelsBigC. PS. I am a YouTube posting rookie so please be patient with me and my terrible camera presence. Also, for some silly reason the recording starts to freeze after 2 minutes of recording so there may be some obvious editing at times.

How Does A Colon Cancer Look Like? Don't Miss The Symptoms & Prevention Tips - Herbs
How does a colon cancer look like? Cancer of the colon and the rectum (also known as colon cancer or colorectal cancer) is a malignant growth arising from the inner lining of the colon or rectum. Everyone is potentially at risk of developing colon cancer at some point in their lifetime. Although colon cancer occurs mostly in mature individuals, it can also occur in younger men and women as well. Some of the risk factors include a personal history of colonic or rectal polyps, a personal or family history of colon or rectal cancer, and certain conditions, such as chronic ulcerative colitis (CUC) and Crohn's disease. Diet also appears to be a factor in the development of colon cancer. Colorectal cancer survivor on his cutting-edge clinical trial
Lawrence Meadows, a reverend and father of two, was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer when he was 39 years old. Unhappy with his prognosis and options in his home of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Lawrence traveled to MD Anderson for a second opinion. Here, Lawrence met with Scott Kopetz, M.D., who confirmed the adenocarcinoma diagnosis and recommended a chemotherapy cocktail called FOLFIRI (folinic acid, fluorouracil, and irinotecan). For Lawrence, the results are promising. “I’m down to three small spots of cancer now, with one pressing against my bladder and two others in my stomach lining,” he says. In November of 2016, Lawrence was one of the first participants in a new Phase I clinical trial that tests whether a special, customized form of vaccination can provoke the immune response that's so far missing in colorectal patients.
