The end of my 3rd day of water fasting. Definitely got hungry and even contemplated eating (the horrors!) but I overcame my cravings. Weighed in this morning at 130.0 for a loss of 1.8 lbs. since yesterday and a total loss of 3.8 lbs. after 2 days of water fasting. I did take a little insulin last night (I'm diabetic), but apparently it was too much because I went too low- 56- just before 7am, and I felt it- shaky, unstable, blurred vision, etc. (Nothing I haven't easily taken care of before all by myself.) So I ate 1 vitamin C tablet which contained 2 grams of carbohydrates. This was enough to raise my blood sugar enough to not feel the symptoms- to 74 in 2 hours and to 95 in 4 hours. It was below 100 all day. I say in the video that I am going to take a small amount of NPH insulin before bed- but I didn't. We'll see how my blood sugar is tomorrow. Had ketones in urine both yesterday (Day 2) and today (Day 3) and my blood sugars are in normal range (not super high) which means I am in ketosis (fat-burning mode!) (not ketoacidosis, a dangerous state). So I am happy about that. Thanks for watching!

That's what we are going to talk about today. Hey everyone welcome back my name is Allen Parr and today I want to ask and answer three questions… Read Isaiah 58:1-9 (3 times in the video) 1. What is fasting? (sum (hbr) means “to cover” the mouth and nestuo (grk) means “to abstain”) a. Fasting is when we voluntarily (the Bible doesn’t command it) choose to sacrifice something of value for the purpose of seeking God with more intensity. b. Usually it’s food because for most people food is the most difficult thing to give up. However, if food is not it for you (e.g. sex (in marriage), social media, entertainment, etc.)) then you may want to fast from food and something else that you know would be a sacrifice to give up (put some on the screen) and instead dedicate that time to God. 2. Why should we fast? (many of the great saints in the Bible practiced fasting (Paul, David, Elijah, Jesus, Moses, Esther, etc.) a. Major Decision – To petition God for direction before making a major decision (Judges 20:26; Acts 14:23) b. Personal Revival – To rekindle your passion for God and experience personal revival c. Spiritual Strength – When people in the Bible fasted they felt spiritually stronger after the fast (Mt. 4; 17) (If you can’t overcome the power of your belly how can you overcome the power of a demon?) d. Health benefits (longer life, resistance to diabetes and other illnesses) e. Spiritual leaders encourage it (repentance, mourning, spiritual revival) 3. How should we fast? a. Privately – Mt. 6: - Jesus says when you fast don’t walk around with a long face because you’re so hungry in hopes of someone asking you why you’re hungry. b. Regularly – (Luke 2:37) – Fasting is not meant to be done once at the beginning of the year and never again. It is supposed to be an ongoing part of your Christian life like prayer and Bible study. c. Intimately – In other words, don’t focus so much on what you’re giving up (that’s called a diet vs. fasting) instead focus on developing intimacy with God as a replacement but rather focus on putting your attention completely and totally upon God. One of the greatest benefits of fasting is that it exposes the idolatry in your life. When you fast if all you can think about is what you’re giving up instead of focusing on God, it could be that is an idol in your life.

Intermittent Fasting vs. Prolonged Fasting: Benefits of 1-3 Day Fasts- Thomas DeLauer… Learn some of my Fasting Protocols with me 1:1 http://www.ThomasDeLauer.com Prolonged fasting (PF) is that which lasts from 48 hours to 120 hours- Studies have found that fasting: Reduces oxidative damage and inflammation Promotes optimal energy metabolism Protects cells In humans benefits include: Weight loss Arthritis benefits Asthma improvement Helps with hypertension Prolonged fasting has been demonstrated to: Increase cellular resistance to toxins in both human and mice studies Reduces circulating insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) Protect cells from chemotoxicity (for example those who undergo chemotherapy) Differences between PF and fasting of less than 24 hours are likely due to the complete exhaustion of glycogen. Our liver stores most of our body’s glucose in the form of glycogen. Following 12 o 24 hours of fasting (varies by person and factors such as physical fitness), liver (hepatic) glycogen stores are depleted and the body turns to the following for energy: Nonhepatic glycogen stores Free fatty acids Ketone bodies Humans can survive 30 or more days fasting. This way of producing energy may slow cellular aging in mammals. It is natural for humans to have high energy when hungry and lower energy when satiated - likely because we would have needed our brains functioning well to come up with new sources of food. Hunger creates a cascade of bodily processes that may explain the benefits of fasting. When we are hungry, certain hormones are released and neuronal networks activated. The hunger response leads to increased activity in the neuronal networks related to cognition. This leads to: Production of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) Synaptic plasticity improvement Stress tolerance increase Cardiovascular benefits are likely due to the increased levels of adiponectin during fasting Adiponectin is released from fat cells. Obese individuals have less circulating adiponectin than normal weight individuals. Too little adiponectin is tied to many chronic diseases, including type-2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cancer and heart disease. Adiponectin in an anti-inflammatory agent and protects against chronic disease. Hypertension has been helped in a human study with 13 days of water only fasting, and the benefits even remained when blood pressure was tested following 6 days of normal eating. Fasting for 3 or more days leads to changes in insulin, IGF-1, IGFBP-1 and glucose: 30% or greater decrease in plasma insulin and glucose levels Decrease in IGF-1, the major growth factor in humans High IGF-1 and insulin levels are tied to aging and cancer Increase in IGFBP-1 (a protein that inhibits IGF-1) Longer fasting periods have shown impressive results for those with rheumatoid arthritis Best results are with a fasting periods of 1-3 weeks followed by a vegetarian diet. Immune system benefit: Fasting for 3 days or longer leads to a reset of the immune system Fasting lowers white blood cell counts, leading to new white blood cells being created by the immune system A study took cancer patients who were undergoing chemotherapy and had them fast for 1, 2 or 3 days prior to chemotherapy. Those who fasted for 3 days, but not those who fasted for 1 day, experienced fewer harmful side effects, such as immunosuppression .Many positive effects have been found for both prolonged fasting as well as intermittent fasting, so incorporating either into your routine will likely be beneficial. *It is very important to speak with your doctor before going on a fast lasting 3 or more days. After my first full day of water fasting, I went from 133.8 lbs. to 131.8 lbs. for a loss of 2.0 lbs. on the first day. Just water weight? Maybe, but it's still encouraging, and I think I will continue to loose more- and actually fat- as I go on. Fasting means to leave food for specific time period. this is the cheapest and most effective way to keep yourself healthy and to treat diseases. This is being used since ancient times. fasting is the common custom in almost all religions. in ancient times when there had been no medicines, people used to fast to treat the diseases. our body has natural healing force that help us in fighting the diseases. when we fast our digestive system which works 24 hours get rest and our body organs get sufficient time to repair the damage cells.If we fast on getting sick it works better than any medicine. when we eat something then our body's total energy is spent on digesting that food and if we fast then this energy is spent on balancing our body system. Fasting helps in speedy recovery. it cleanses our body and purifies the blood. Most of the time people get sick due to the accumulation of toxins which passes in our body through food, air and water. Mostly human beings eat more than their body requirement. some of the food is absorbed by our body. the excess fat deposit in our body and increase our weight. undigested food ferment in our body which spoils our body system. if it is not controlled in time then our body becomes host of many diseases. excess fat blocks blood vessels that inhibits the smooth circulation of blood.due to this body goes through so many problems like pain, inflammation, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, hyper acidity, high bp, diabetes, arthritis and even risk of cancer also increases. in such cases fasting is the best way to heal the body naturally by giving rest to the digestive system. when we fast our body systems remove toxins from the body and cleanse it. the energy that was to be used in digesting food helps in the growth and repair of damaged cells. similarly fasting removes toxins from our brain also. after fasting we get more energetic, our brain power increases and we feel fresh. we feel v. light, it reduces stress and confusions. It is said that if you get into a problem doing a certain thing then stop doing that. like wise if you get sick by eating than do opposite and get well soon. but most of the time when we get ill we do not stop eating and we follow normal routine of eating which deteriorates our condition. meaning of fast gets diluted when people overeat after breaking fast. It is v. important to know how to break fast. If we want to give rest to our digestive system then why to overload it after breaking fast. People go on fast in navratras but during that time they keep munching variety of things available in the market on the name of fast. if you are leading a normal life, you are not taking the treatment of any disease then you can cure so many common problems with fasting only. you don,t even need to take medicines. A normal person can remain disease free and more healthy by fasting only. it increases your longevity and slows the process of ageing. spiritually you become more stronger. that is why fasting is said to be part of rituals so that people must fast. if you have never kept fast then start it with one day fast. keep yourself on liquid diet. drink lots of water. just to change the taste you can add lemon and honey in the water. it will taste good and you will get energy also. whenever you feel hungry drink water. this will satisfies your hunger. in the beginning you will feel like eating or you may have the feel headache but once the mind is set for fasting then there will be no problem and you will get amazing benefits. this way you can fast for 2 days also. secondly instead of taking water only you can have fresh fruit and vegetable juices. their vitamins, minerals and trace elements will help in removing toxins and waste from the body. There will be quick recovery in case of any ailment in the body. It is important to drink juice immediately after juicing. only then you will be able to get full benefits. overweight people should go on fasting for 2-3 times a week. lemon water and juices will help you in doing it successfully. they will get so many health benefits other then weight loss. when you will feel light and better then nutritious food will become a part of your life style. you will not indulge in overeating. you also might have noticed that sick people sometimes refuse to eat but we usually force them to eat to avoid weakness but that is wrong on our part. if they don't feel like eating then don't compel them. instead of giving solid diet give them lemon water or fresh juices. this compulsory fasting will help them in speedy recovery. whenever they feel hungry only then give them food that too v. light which they can digest easily. yes, if they don't take anything for 2-3 days then must consult your family doctor.

The serenity prayer is a way to meditate where I can take the time for self examination and really look at what's going on in my life and the things that I have a hard time to accept. The serenity prayer helps me to get over temptation when I am willing to turn to God and ask him to give me the courage to change the things that I can. Through the serenity prayer I know that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit I will be given the directions on how to best prepare myself so that I don't fall into overeating and the frustration of staying in that trap!
