Kevin shooting his Colt M-16 Full Auto rifle suppressed with a Silencerco Saker 5.56 suppressor at the moving target stage of the Utah State Sniper Shoot. Owning a full-auto firearm is 100% legal with the proper paperwork. The real deterant is the price. Today an M-16 will run you $16-25K. Once you purchase it you must complete the proper forms, fingersprints, interview with the head law enforcement officer in your area, typically your Sheriff and submit your paperwork and $200 to the BATF. Wait time is from 6 months to 1 year. During that time the firearm will remain with your dealer until your paperwork clears and you are issued your $200 tax stamp for the firearm. Unlike suppressors any select fire or full auto weapon I believe must stay within a certain area. If you plan to travel out of that area you must notify your chief law enforcement officer first. This particular firearm would require three tax stamps to own. One for being full-auto, one for the suppressor and one because it is a SBR short barreled rifle. Each requires the same wait time and $200 tax stamp. First match of the year! Not going to lie, I struggle (still) in arranging my “plan of attack” for many of the stages, which can definitely be seen in the footage. Pistol work is improving, as I have transitioned to the VP9 Tacitcal/Compensator combo. Looking forward to the next matches!

... Amazing video of gas powered RC aircraft being shot down with massive machine gun fire! It all happened at the October, 2010 Big Sandy MG Shoot near Wikieup, Arizona. The weather started out iffy but turned into a blessing as there where no fires due to the earlier rains. We managed to run through 1500 reactive targets and 38 planes. The airplanes didn't stand a chance as everyone's Triple A capabilities were awesome. I do not remember any of the airplanes making it through more than 6 passes with most of them getting shot down in 2 or 3. The night flying was real cool to watch and presented a problem for our pilot to see his plane as most of the tracer fire was green and the lights on the planes were green.. We figured there where 200 rds a second going up at the planes when they presented themselves. The sky was filled with the tracers!

So this is my first time ever shooting multigun. It's a blast to shoot three different kinds of guns on the clock. The stress of remembering to make my guns safe and the extensive plan is a lot higher than the traditional USPSA matches I've shot. I'm sure if you do it often you'll get used to it just like anything. My Contour didn't work very well today so I managed to get only two stages but you can see the massive failures at loading my guns, especially the shotgun. I only had like 15mins of practice a few months ago. I can see why it's so interesting for the multi gunners but I think I'll stick to my Open pistol for now. It's a lot of work bringing three different sets of gear and ammo to a match. Thanks to everyone who setup the match at Marysville Rifle Club.

The training was good on Sunday October 16th. The lesson plan for October was firearm malfunctions. In the Classroom on october 13th, Carrie went through the mechanics of firearm malfunctions. on Sunday, they were put to practical practice. The instructors placed snap caps randomly in the live fire magazines. When the shooter encountered a misfire, they had to clear and re-shoot. My part here was to demonstrate a squib fire. I loaded a couple rounds with primers and bullets, but no Powder. The primers went off, but, I did not get the desired effect, but they did jam up the pistols quite nicely ! Remember... Pop and Stop!!!! til next time, Shoot like you mean it !

Second stage of the day and the stage I put the most planning into ahead of time. This was the first time I have shot a full USPSA action pistol type stage before; being an IDPA shooter. 8 steel poppers in the first array, 6 rifle papers and then 4 knock down steel in the second array. My plan worked and I was the only person who took it. I think I was the most efficient with the pistol on the first array of this stage; only 1 move. Slight bobble picking up the 3rd stand of rifle targets. I am learning that close range with a fixed 4x optic is not optimal. You really lose your targets at times.

Quick video of my runs on 3 of the 4 stages at the Weld County 3 Gun shoot yesterday, 23 April 2016 The new rifle is running well, as is the Stoeger and the VP9 I ran reasonably well, 16th overall and 6th in my division. Some of the sponsored shooters beat me, but I beat a few of them as well. Need to work on fundamentals, and work on walkthroughs and stage prep--on that first stage, I definitely could've shaved some time loading fewer shells in the shotgun--I think I had six or seven in the gun afterwards, six or seven I didn't have to burn time loading. The last stage was kind of a pinball stage with all three guns, but watching the tape I feel like a better plan would have let me plan exactly where I needed to position myself, especially with rifle, to hit both sides from one spot, without having to adjust/reposition. Lessons learned though!

The steps I took to purchase my Smith & Wesson 500 Magnum hand cannon revolver from JGB Arms, Kauai, Hawaii. Notes: You need to be at least 21 years of age and a US citizen. A handgun permit is required for each handgun you plan to purchase. A long gun permit is good for 1 year and the amount of long guns you can purchase is unlimited. Also, those who have a medical marijuana card cannot purchase firearms in Hawaii. Once you have acquired a firearm, you have 5 days to register it with your local county Police Department. These are the procedures as of August 2018.

Fun and challenging match today! Feeling pretty good about the result, finishing 4th behind 3 high level and seasoned shooters gives me some hope ! My main goal this match was CONSISTENCY... Stage 1: Serious stage one jitters here. My mindset was that of, "just survive stage 1 and build momentum from there" and if i didnt miss the one on the swinger id have done it. oh well! Stage 2: This stage went ok, other than the several make up shots on steel i was alright with it. Stage 3: I had high hopes for this one...Unfortunately i let the stuck mag kind of rattle me and slow me down through the rest of the stage. I have to learn to deal with malfunctions or hiccups during a run and not let it derail my plan. Oh well. moving on. Stage 4: I mis-timed the mouse trap and had to finish with the head shot....I called it good when i broke the shot but for some reason i just HAD to hang around and look for a bullet hole...geesh. Stage 5: Man i was convinced i burned this one down!! ...Turns out some much more capable shooters had REALLY smoked it. I feel like i shot this stage pretty much to my current capabilities. Stage 6: Pleased with this classifier result, i was visually patient and it came together pretty good. Stage 7: This was a strange and challenging single position stage. I shot it pretty conservatively and if i could do it over id shoot it slighly more aggressively by taking the activator, open target then the drop turner so there wasnt any hesitation. Also shot like a coward at the hard cover and picked up some D's.

The Level III Oil County Challenge was also the Norwegian Nationals for the IPSC Production Division in 2016. This match is held just outside of Stavanger on the beautiful Norwegian west coast on a shooting range with nice facilities and an overall good organization. I came in at 71.85% of the winner which I feel really good about, considering this is my second season as an IPSC competitor. This was also my second Level III for this season where I have only been able to attend in two indoor Level II's in the indoor season. My focus was on executing each stage correctly and optimally and not necessarily as fast as possible. I've had a tendency to shoot too fast with too many C's, D's and M's which I then have had to use additional rounds to make up for, so one concrete action was to slow down and minimize the need for additional rounds. I almost managed this, but on both stage 2 and 8 I shot three rounds at some targets which were unnecessary and can clearly see some other fumbling at various stages. With 4 Mikes in total, no NS or P and a 71.5% A-percentage I still felt that this plan worked though, I also think it helped that no stage was really tricky - even though I ran a few steps on the wrong side of the fence on stage 11. My best stages was number 1 and 10 where I was at around 85% of the stage winner. I'm still too slow at shooting with enough precision and to transition from target to target to challenge the elite on short stages, but on most medium and long stages I have the capacity to be competitive which feels encouraging. I started my first day on stage 3, but the video is starting from stage 1 to give consistency to the result lists. Stage 9 and 16 was removed after the pre-match so I did not get to do these.

Palm Springs gun control plan draws protesters About a dozen Palm Springs gun owners and activists gathered outside Palm Springs City Hall Wednesday, holding homemade signs and speaking out against an item buried at the end of a city council agenda. The impetus for the protest was a discussion item the Palm Springs City Council planned to discuss Wednesday evening, about potentially tightening city gun control measures. Bob Richmond, former Riverside County Republican Party chairman, said he believed the ordinance would infringe on his Second Amendment rights. “One of them is to go ahead and tell me that I have to, the government is telling me I have to keep my guns that are in the privacy of my home locked up in a lock box unless I have them in my possession,” Richmond said. “I see that as an overreach of government.” http://www.desertsun.com/story/news/local/palm-springs/2016/07/06/gun-owners-activists-protest-outside-palm-springs-city-hall/86782530/ Banning Gun Sales to People on No-Fly List May Not Be Constitutional, Experts Say Constitutional experts cite ongoing problems with no-fly list criteria On Thursday, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy announced plans to issue an executive order barring anyone listed on federal terrorist watch lists from purchasing a gun in the state. But while the idea of “no fly, no gun” has found growing support following the mass shooting in San Bernardino last week, including that of President Obama, experts say such a policy may be unconstitutional. The problem lies with the terrorist watch lists themselves, which are both secret and routinely updated without the typical due process given to those who are accused of breaking the law, such as court proceedings. Without a trial, the government can add anyone to watch lists who it believes may be a threat to national security—and exactly how the government defines such a threat isn’t even public knowledge. http://time.com/4146025/guns-no-fly-list-constitution/ Wideners Reloading and Shooting Supplies Deep Appalachian Roots Widener's has roots that run deep - in fact, the company goes way back into the late 1970's. The Digital Age Wideners.com got its start in 1996 when the company opened up shop on the world wide web. Sure, the first site wasn't much to look at compared to today's site but we were pretty excited to have the chance to serve shooters all over the country with primers, powders and more. Enjoy this introduction/promotional video of the 3+ Gun Event held each month at Pawnee Sportsmens Center on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Victory Defense Consulting is playing host and organizing this monthly event but a number of other local gun shops get involved as well as thier schedule allows. Thanks to Alan Samuel at Machine Gun Tours from the Metro area for all his help, target contributions, and experience he shares with us, Kevin Novak represents Big Rs gun counter every month, Anthony Navarro from Colorado Shooting Sports drops by regular, lots of clients from Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply turn up every month and the list goes on. Many of the Targets are made by AA Targets and some volunteers have been helping us out too. We are always on the look out for more help and resources like barrels, false fronts, steel targets, etc. You will notice something unique about this 3+ Gun Event... Well other than its Colorado's ONLY Monthly 3+ Gun Event & held on one of Colorado's largest shooting facilities.... Much of the stages are shot on natural terrain and we get away from the square ranges as much as we can. It adds a new dynamic to the event and we have a great time with it. All new comers are welcome. This is an informal event - no big cash purse or prizes yet; just good fun. Rental Shotguns or ARs are available if you don't have a gun too! Come join us... its a blast and good family fun. We post the event as a scheduled event on our facebook page and all updates are made there. Find a Location /About COBRA Defense http://www.cobradefensesystem.com/ Active Shooter Response Training http://www.cobradefensesystem.com/active-shooter-response-training/ Why is the Obvious Solution to School Shootings Not Even Part of the Conversation? While the NRA, politicians, and celebrities fill up the airways debating gun control, one expert says there is an obvious question not being asked, “Why do schools have fire drills, tornado drills, lockdown drills, but not active shooter drills?” That’s the question posed by veteran street cop, maximum security prison guard, and author of “The Psychology of Self-Defense” Chris Sutton, “How many lives at Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook would have been saved had the school had a well rehearsed active shooter plan in place?” According to Sutton, the knife attack at Lone Star College is a great case in point. 15 people were hurt from a single attacker wielding a knife. He says, “Had these students been trained in the active shooter scenarios, there is no way that the number of injured would be so high. These kids simply had no clue how to deal with the attack. The school failed to provide them with training even though training is readily available.” (See the video of Sutton discussing the knife attack: http://youtu.be/MpFiaGKvq2E) Sutton has been teaching active shooting preparation as part of his Cobra-Defense program since 2003. The Cobra-Defense Active Shooter Plan is a variety of drills and scenarios that Sutton has pulled from his extensive police training. The drills and scenarios help people react with sound strategic and tactical skills despite the hysteria of an attack. Sutton likens the training to a “Police Academy for Civilians.” With the frequency of shootings increasing, organizations may need to reverse the thought that, “It would never happen here...” to “Let’s prepare in case it does.” School and workplace shootings also have more than the mortal cost of lives lost. Civil lawsuits for failure to protect students have proliferated in the wake of increased school shootings. Having a well-rehearsed plan may help mitigate that liability by saving both lives and money. It’s clear that we live in a world where the threat of active shooters is a real danger. The ongoing debates about gun control and other cause related issues to school and workplace shootings needs to be balanced with a proactive plan of preparation for the next time it happens.

For 2017, the NC Section match returned to the Rowan County Wildlife Club in Salisbury, NC. I had an inconsistent match but still managed to hang on for a 95% finish behind the very capable Tyler Turner.* Despite taking two mikes on the match, my real downfall was being generally hesitant and shooting a lot of makeup shots on paper and steel. (If the two hard cover mikes were hits, it still would have only moved me up to 97.6%.) Link to results: https://practiscore.com/results/new/42915?q_individual=mmShooter_814677 Stage 1 The first stage of the day was set up in a way that you could see all the targets from two positions, leading most folks to just shoot the stage from there. It would have been an decent-but-unremarkable finish for me without the hardcover mike. It was in the same left-low-left place that I took two mikes on tuxedos last week at Sir Walter. A frustrating trend, but I mostly managed to get it out of my head for the next few stages. Stage 2 Nothing really went wrong on this stage, but nothing really went right. Generally sluggish, and after the last stage I was shooting very conservatively, especially on the back targets with the no-shoots. I still managed to pick up 7 charlies, from just being a too loose on the sights and sloppy with the trigger. Stage 3 There wasn't too much to this stage, just go one for one up front and get alphas. Took one charlie on the second paper target, but this one pretty much went okay. Stage 4 This stage required by far the most thinking of any stage in the match, with many different ways to break up the first 18 shots of the stage. I had a decent plan, but didn't keep the one-for-one discipline from the last stage going. I got sloppy on the trigger and went to slide lock only knocking down two of the four poppers I planned to get with my first magazine. At that point, I knew I had to shoot the next magazine one-for-one, and the one after that too, so I had to become very deliberate to avoid a standing reload. I managed to do it and the final damage to my score wasn't terrible, but I threw away a genuine chance at a stage win with steel misses and paper makeups. Stage 5 I knew this standards stage would not be a strength of mine, but my goal was to see my sights and shoot points, without worrying about how slow it felt. Frustratingly, I took a mike, but on the freestyle portion. I overswung the transition into the tuxedo hard cover in the middle and put my fifth shot of the first string in the black. The rest of the stage went passably well, but having a second hardcover miss in exactly the same spot was frustrating. Stage 6 Another stage with nothing terribly wrong, just slow because of makeups. The random light strike after two thousand rounds of reliable ignition was frustrating but turned out to be the first of three. In the first position, three makeup shots. In the second position, a makeup shot on the tuxedo hardcover (which amazingly turned out to be an unpasted hole from the previous shooter; I had three alphas on the target). And then again in the last position, a makeup. Knowing I had to go one-for-one for the rest of the stage slowed me down. A mix of impatience to start shooting and sloppy trigger pulling (yes, even with a 3 pound single action) slowed me down too much. Stage 7 More sloppy trigger pulling. This stage went more or less according to plan, except for the makeup shots. The makeup shots on the steel at the end are particularly egregious because I had stable sight pictures despite the bridge, but I was just not gripping the gun and pulling the trigger right. You can see both misses go off just to the left in to the berm. Stage 8 Nearly a stage win, despite the second light strike, on the draw. That rattled me and my first instinct was to reload so I didn't go to slide lock. It didn't enter my head at the time that my plan wasn't anywhere near needing a reload and the light strike hadn't put me behind any rounds. I just reacted. Perhaps a highlight of this match for me was recognizing the second swinger timing and engaging other targets while it was obscured. If I had taken fewer poppers from the start position, I wouldn't have been able to come back to the swinger in time for the next swing the way I did. Stage 9 On the last stage of the day, despite having a light strike, managed to step up and pull out the stage win on this one. I can't really explain why, especially given my recent lack of performance on classifiers, but this stage just came together for me. I don't mean this breakdown to be a list of excuses why I didn't win. But I hope through specific examples you can see the places I see in my own performance for improvement....
