Lexapro

19:17
Lexapro or escitalopram may treat depression and anxiety. Actually Lexapro contains the same active component as Celexa. Aggressive marketing promoting the drug as superior to other available options succeeded in boosting total sales well in excess of $14 billion. Unfortunately studies fail to show Lexapro offers any unique advantages over other similar SSRIs such as Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft. Recent investigations suggest not only are antidepressants overprescribed but their effectiveness compared to inactive placebo therapy remains subject to debate.

Overview: The Most and Least Effective Antidepressants

05:25
522 randomized controlled trials involving 21 antidepressants and 116,477 people were analyzed. It appears the most effective antidepressants (at a duration of 8 weeks) include amitriptyline, escitalopram, mirtazapine, paroxetine, and venlafaxine. While reboxetine and trazodone had notably lower efficacy ratings. Some of the most effective drugs had lower tolerability scores, however, indicating they may have a greater side effect burden. The antidepressant literature shows signs of potential bias, so the results have to be considered with that in mind. SSRI, LEXAPRO Brain Damage

26:17
Facebook Group for victims, not open to the public, but available if you have had a similar event: https://www.facebook.com/groups/241028905999497/ Severe adverse reaction to one 10mg pill of Lexapro (escitalopram) almost 5 years ago. I am attempting to share my experiences, thoughts and opinions about SSRI drugs and what happened to me. I live in Kentucky, United States. Please comment or send an email to discuss this issue. Lexapro, has ruined my life. One 10mg pill severely damaged my brain. 8 hours after taking the pill, I entered into a world of a neurological nightmare. I am afraid this happens more often than we know. I could have very easily been placed in a psyche-ward or accidentally killed myself the first few days after taking that pill. Then, no one would be able to tell my story. What happened........ After suffering a chronic sleep disorder for decades, I couldn't get more than 4 hours of sleep a night so I went to the doctor for some medical help. September 23rd 2006: The doctor prescribed Lexapro (10mg). So I took this pill having been reassured by frequent television adverstisements that it was safe. My doctor also acted as if these pills were harmless. I took the pill and went to sleep about noon. 8 hours later I woke to the most awful, strange, powerful inner sensations. I was also filled with a feeling of dread or horror. I had never experienced anything like this before and I couldn't believe it. It felt as if my brain was dying...... I jumped out of bed and ran around my house.... I couldn't stop moving or the sensations would get worse. Sheer horror! The symptoms: Many are similar to Serotonin Syndrome. Waves of nervous energy flowing through my body like painful electric shocks Inner tremor Mania Extreme pressure in head Couldn't lay down flat Extreme panic and fear...dread Sensations of my brain and body burning or sizzling, buzzing Intense disconnected feeling from reality High Fever (103) Flu-like symptoms Terrible headache Extreme nausea Waves of sensations throughout my body and skin Visual hallucinations Visual impairments Dizzy spells Unable to exercise much unable to tolerate caffeine, alcohol and other vitamins or medicines Akathisia (inability to stop moving) Panic Showering would hurt my skin Unable to lay down Dizziness Loud ringing in the ears (High frequency) Racing and violent thoughts BRAIN ZAPS (Immediate equilibrium interruption or disruption) Racing, uncontrollable thoughts unable to control emotions Inability to focus Unable to listen to music Unable to listen to music High fever Flu-like symptoms (exactly like the flu) Profuse sweating Unable to distinguish TV from reality Felt like being out of reality Anxiety Depression (due to circumstances) Hyper-sensitivity to almost everything Screaming upon waking I really didn't think I was going to survive. It has been over 4 years since then and I have had to deal with some of these symptoms, in varying degrees, since then. I made slow progress over the years but unfortunately I haven't recovered completely. Plus, since then I have been having unexplained strokes.

Again, I'm not a doctor, and for legal purposes I should probably say to not take this as medical advice. Also, don't attempt to get off SSRI's if you are having suicidal thoughts. Here is my understanding of what should be done to get off SSRI's, but of course, you should do all of your own research and come to your own conclusions. Do not stop SSRI's cold turkey, that is too dangerous. Ween yourself off them for about 3-4 weeks. Then, (if you can afford it) start taking 300mg of 5-HTP before bed, and 800mg of SAM-E in the morning. If you are on a strict budget, take at bare minimum 200mg of 5-HTP (and skip the SAM-E). Expect to take these over-the-counter drugs for 3-4 weeks before you begin to feel the benefits (however, this may take longer if you are coming off an SSRI since your brain's natural ability to absorb serotonin has been at-best temporarily compromised). In the studies I was able to find, 5-HTP & SAM-E were shown to be about 80% as effective as SSRI's, but have no side-effects. - Feed your mind something constructive by subscribing! 👍 Instagram: 1KnightWriter Facebook: Knight Writer Twitter: 1KnightWriter Find my Beast Mode Motivation & other audio content on Audible, Amazon, & iTunes. How to Lose Weight While Taking Antidepressants?

08:51
Losing weight is difficult as it is but it is even bigger challenge when you are taking antidepressants. Discover why Dr. Sam Robbins, health expert, recommends Lean Optimizer™, as one of the solutions for weight loss while taking Antidepressants. http://drsam.co/yt/WhileTakingAntidepressants-LO ************************** How to Lose Weight While Taking Antidepressants? ********************** Losing weight is never fun and for most of us, it is not easy especially as we get older. Losing weight is difficult as it is but it is even bigger challenge when you are taking antidepressants. Moreover, the reason is due to your change in hormones. Over the years, I have discovered TWO main reasons for the weight gain from use of antidepressants: The first is the most commonly prescribe antidepressants, SSRIs - such as Prozac, Lexapro, Paxil, Zoloft - they work by increasing serotonin, which helps regulate your appetite. So typically, antidepressant users start eating more because their appetite has increased which is the initial and primary cause of weight gain. Secondly, there is another phenomenon that I have noticed over the years: With people who swear they are not eating more and yet, they still gain weight. After doing lots of different blood work I have noticed a change in metabolic markers: One of them being lowered thyroid production as well as a change adrenal function such as higher cortisol levels (stress hormone) and lower adrenal production. Both are leading to slower metabolism and faster weight gain. As you can see, hormones really do control everything, throw in aging and now things get a bit more challenging. In this video, I am going to give you proven solutions that will help reduce your appetite and maximize your fat loss. So, do not worry – it is not your fault. There is hope! And I have got the solution and you CAN do it! In this video, I will show you how to decrease the inches in those stubborn areas like your belly, arms, hips and legs of the ladies without losing muscles. Diet- is the most important, since you can easily consume more calories than you can burn. 5. Supplements – the right kind will turn on your “fat burning genes”, which means faster fat loss with less effort. WHAT IS YOUR BEST & SAFEST SOLUTION? We all need something “EXTRA”…Something that will improve your fat burning hormones naturally. I created an “All-In One” solution called Lean Optimizer™. How does Drinking Alcohol Affect Anti-Depressants? Part 1

A lot of people who are addicted to alcohol say they're depressed, they go to their GP and get prescribed an anti-depressant. Not a good idea! It causes havoc depending on the type of anti-depressant. When they stop taking anti-depressant, they get withdrawal symptoms, add the alcohol to the equation and their central nervous system ends up going up and down like a ping-pong. Antidepressants Make it Harder to Empathize, Harder to Climax, and Harder to Cry.

06:51
Dr. Julie Holland argues that women are designed by nature to be dynamic and sensitive – women are moody and that is a good thing. Yet millions of women are medicating away their emotions because we are out of sync with our own bodies and we are told that moodiness is a problem to be fixed. One in four women takes a psychiatric drug. If you add sleeping pills to the mix the statistics become higher. Overprescribed medications can have far-reaching consequences for women in many areas of our lives: sex, relationships, sleep, eating, focus, balance, and aging. Dr. Holland's newest book is titled Moody Bitches: The Truth About the Drugs You’re Taking, the Sleep You’re Missing, the Sex You’re Not Having and What’s Really Making You Crazy. Read more at BigThink.com: http://goo.gl/O8uR Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: The main kind of antidepressant that is the most popularly prescribed are the SSRIs and these are medicines that increase serotonin transmission. And when you start to push on the doses of these SSRIs you start to lose some sort of quintessential feminine things. First of all it becomes much hard to climax and it becomes much, much harder to cry. But you also see decreases in empathy, in sensitivity, in passion. The simple way of thinking about an SSRI is that you have two brain cells and one is a pitcher and one is a catcher. So pitch, catch. Pitch, catch. So this nerve cell is throwing serotonin across and this one is catching it. What the medicines do is they block the recycling back into the pitcher. So, you know, I’m throwing, I’m throwing, some of this gets caught, some of it gets dropped. It just doesn’t get over there but I’ll suck it back in and try again. So if you block the recycling more is in the middle to get across. So there’s more, you know, the space between the nerve cells is called the synapse. If you block the recycling of the serotonin into the releasing cell more is available for the catching cell. So it ends up enhancing the transmission. How enhanced serotonergic transmission translates into feeling better and feeling less anxious is much more complicated. But, you know, the simplistic way to think about it is that if you have higher levels of serotonin, if your transmission is better you will be more relaxed and more happy. It’s a little easier to smile. It’s a little harder to cry. So, you know, I’ve had patients come to me and say, you know, I’ve tried antidepressants before but they always made me feel like a zombie or they didn’t make me feel like myself. Or I had a patient who said like I cut my finger and I looked down and I saw that it was bleeding and I saw that it was my blood but I didn’t really feel like connected to my finger or the blood. You know, things like that that are really, really worrisome. Or I’ve had patients say, you know, I was in this situation where I knew I should be crying and I couldn’t cry. And, you know, I felt terrible that I couldn’t express that emotion to bond with my friend or something like that. So these antidepressants do scale back a lot of expression of emotion and feeling emotion even sort of thinking emotional thoughts. If you’re terribly depressed and you need antidepressants to get out of bed and function and go to work I get it. That’s one thing. But what I’m worried about is more and more women deciding to go on antidepressants because their friends are doing it and that’s what’s, you know, more and more women who are at work are taking these SSRIs so that they cannot cry, not get flustered, keep going forward. You know I think it jives with this sort of forward momentum agenda that so many of us have and especially in the workplace. But, you know, I would say at what cost? You know it is true that SSRIs can help you get ahead and there have been really interesting animal studies where, you know, the primates who are on SSRIs ascended up the dominance hierarchy. And the ones who became dominated over got stressed out and had lower serotonin levels. So there does seem to be some component of serotonin affecting dominance hierarchies and, you know, the ability to move ahead or to lean in. So I totally get that there are advantages to being on an SSRI in the workplace. But, you’re going to miss out on knowing what’s right because you feel it or being hurt by what somebody said and showing them that you’re hurt. And so that person can learn that their behavior has emotional consequences for other people. So and it changes the whole sort of tone of the workplace. There’s going to be less accountability and less sort of calling people on their misbehavior if you’re not even feeling that anyone misbehaved. [TRANSCRIPT TRUNCATED]

Lexapro and Weight Gain or Loss

03:33
Lexapro and Weight Gain or Loss. Lexapro’s effect on weight. Lexapro can cause changes in weight. There are some reports that people begin to lose weight when first taking Lexapro, but this finding is not well supported by research studies. Another study found that Lexapro didn’t reduce the obsessive-compulsive symptoms linked to binge-eating disorder, but it did reduce weight and body mass index. This may be because study participants taking Lexapro had fewer binge-eating episodes. More thorough research is needed on the topic of Lexapro and weight changes. But the current evidence seems to suggest that the drug may be more likely to cause weight loss than weight gain, if you have weight changes at all. If either of these effects is a concern for you, talk to your doctor. They have the most insight on how this drug will affect you individually. They can also offer tips for managing your weight. What Lexapro is used to treat. Lexapro belongs to a class of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medications work by increasing the levels of serotonin in your brain. Serotonin is a key messenger chemical that helps regulate your mood. Depression. Lexapro treats depression, a medical illness and a mood disorder that continues for longer than a few weeks. Most people with depression have deep feelings of sadness. They also lack interest in things that once gave them pleasure. Depression affects every aspect of life, including relationships, work, and appetite. If Lexapro helps reduce your depression, it can reverse changes in your appetite caused by the condition. In turn, you may lose or gain some weight. But this effect is more related to your condition than to side effects of the drug. Anxiety. Lexapro also treats anxiety in many anxiety disorders. Our bodies are programmed with an automatic fight-or-flight response. Our heart beats faster, our breathing becomes rapid, and more blood flows into the muscles of our arms and legs as our bodies prepare to either run or stand our ground and fight. If you have an anxiety disorder, your body goes into fight-or-flight mode more often and for longer periods of time. There are several different anxiety disorders, including: generalized anxiety disorder. obsessive-compulsive disorder. posttraumatic stress disorder. panic disorder. simple phobia. social anxiety disorder. Side effects of Lexapro. Although it is not completely clear how Lexapro can affect your weight, other possible side effects of this drug are clear. Most people tolerate Lexapro reasonably well. Still, the following side effects are possible when you take this drug: headache. nausea. dry mouth. fatigue. weakness. sleep disturbances. sexual problems. increased sweating. loss of appetite. constipation All Photos Licensed Under CC Source : www.pexels.com www.pixabay.com www.commons.wikimedia.org

Zoloft vs. Paxil: Desperate for Relief of Paxil Withdrawal

Again, I do NOT recommend anyone to do what I had done. It is not common that what I had done resulted in negative consequences but it carries possibility and do not take such a risk. Despite my stupidity and personal disgust over SSRI's and the lack of discontinuation "syndrome" acknowledgment and support by the very people that prescribe them, it is still best that you do seek counsel. Just advocate for you and your situation. I cannot stress this enough. Do not take risks when it comes to your life. What I had done, despite the fact I currently feel swell carries way too much of a risk for me to ethically recommend to anyone. The decision described in this vlog was due to the emotional, physical and mental strain of the withdrawal. Secondly, I truly recognized that I am needed by others, which only further shows how irresponsible this act of desperation was. SEEK MEDICAL AND/OR PSYCHIATRIC ATTENTION IF YOU HAVE SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, HOMICIDAL THOUGHTS, OR ANY SORT OF EXPERIENCES THAT MAKE YOU SUSPICIOUS THAT YOU HAVE EVEN THE SMALLEST CHANCE OF CAUSING HARM TO YOURSELF OR TO ANOTHER. PLEASE & THANK YOU. For those tapering and currently hurting from withdrawals from these SSRI's ... my heart goes out to you.
