Scope Creep in Project Management
Read the full blog post that accompanies this video here: https://www.goskills.com/Blog/scope-creep ---- **Scope Creep Reference Guide** “Scope creep is the uncontrolled expansion to project scope without adjustments to time, cost, and resources.” -- PMBOK® Guide ---- **When to Guard Against Scope Creep** Scope creep can occur at any time in the project. It most commonly occurs during reviews with stakeholders or customers. During the review, the stakeholder or customer requests a change to a project goal or deliverable that will require additional unplanned work. Scope creep occurs when the goal or deliverable is changed without adjusting the project schedule or resources. Scope creep can also occur when project team members add unnecessary work to the project. Often the team members do this because they believe it will make the project results better. However, if the stakeholders have not agreed to the change and provided additional time and resources, the effect is to cause scope creep. Scope creep inevitably leads to delays and overruns since the extra work requires time and money to complete. Often scope creep is not recognized until the delay or overrun has already occurred. At that point, it is too late to prevent the scope creep. The project must either be “de-scoped” to fit within the original boundaries or the delay and overrun absorbed by the project sponsors. ---- **Managing Scope Creep Steps** Managing scope creep starts at the time of project initiation. A clear set of project boundaries will reduce the likelihood of project scope creep. The Project Leader should guard against scope creep initiated by team members at the pulse meetings. If a task completion is delayed, the Project Leader should immediately check for the possibility of scope creep. If that is occurring, the Project Leader and Core Team member should redirect the task leader to stay within the task scope. Following every meeting with stakeholders, the project team should review the action items and direction to determine if there is scope creep. If there is an unfunded request for additional scope, the Project Leader should notify the stakeholders and request a clarification on project boundaries. Either an increase in time and resources or the removal of the scope direction. Scope requests that are not approved by the stakeholders should be recorded on a list known as the “Scope Creep Parking Lot.” If the project is re-baselined, this list should be reviewed and appropriate tasks added to the project. At the end of the project, this list is turned over to the project sponsors for review by future projects. **Hints and Tips** Scope creep is a never ending battle on projects. Expect it will happen, so watch closely for the signs and manage it. It is very hard to tell your managers, “No,” when they ask for additional, unfunded scope on the project. Report the request with the impact at the next management review and ask for clarification on boundaries. Create a small reserve of time and resources during project planning to be able to absorb small scope creep requests. ---- Check out our project management courses at GoSkills.com. https://www.goskills.com/Courses/Project-Management

http://2045.com http://gf2045.com In February of 2012 the first Global Future 2045 Congress was held in Moscow. There, over 50 world leading scientists from multiple disciplines met to develop a strategy for the future development of humankind. An autonomous system providing life support for the brain and allowing it interaction with the environment is created. The brain is transplanted into an Avatar B. With Avatar B man receives new, expanded life. 2025. The new generation of Avatars provides complete transmission of sensations from all five sensory robot organs to the operator. 2030-2035. ReBrain -- The colossal project of brain reverse engineering is implemented. World science comes very close to understanding the principles of consciousness. 2035. The first successful attempt to transfer one's personality to an alternative carrier. The epoch of cybernetic immortality begins. 2040-2050. Bodies made of nanorobots that can take any shape arise alongside hologram bodies. 2045-2050. Drastic changes in social structure, and in scientific and technological development. SPS Strategic Comm: Political Communication & the Mediatization of the 2016 Campaign
Trimmed stream from 10/19/16 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5dV9x-HCIs http://sps.columbia.edu SPS Strategic Communication Workshop: Political Communication & the Mediatization of the 2016 Campaign Mark Hannah and David Vermillion, both alumni of the School of Professional Studies’ M.S. in Strategic Communication program, present an exceptionally topical workshop hosted by the Strategic Communication program at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies. In recent years, the practice of political campaigning has transformed to meet the expectations and imperatives of a rapidly changing news media. Events are timed for optimal media exposure, and the tone and tactics of political candidates – from the provocative soundbite to the Friday "dump" of bad news (given that news consumption dips on Saturdays) – are increasingly dictated by the incentives and affordances of the modern media environment. This is something communication scholars call the "mediatization" of politics. In his recent book, The Best "Worst President": What the Right Gets Wrong About Barack Obama, Democratic presidential campaign veteran Mark Hannah documents and debunks a number of myths and misperceptions propagated by President Obama's detractors in this media environment. Hannah will discuss his new book, as well as the ways in which the 2016 candidates are adapting to a changing political news cycle, with longtime political and public affairs consultant David Vermillion. About the Speakers: Mark Hannah has been a staffer on the both Kerry and Obama presidential campaigns. He has written about politics for the PBS MediaShift blog, TIME.com, and for The Huffington Post. Hannah is a political commentator on cable news, regularly appearing on Fox News, MSNBC, and CNBC. An adjunct faculty member at New York University, The New School, and Queens College, he is a doctoral fellow at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication. He holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. in strategic communications from Columbia University. Hannah is the author of the recently published book,The Best "Worst President": What the Right Gets Wrong About Barack Obama. David Vermillion designs integrated communications strategies that enhance and protect the reputations of organizations across the spectrum of industries. He specializes in Public Affairs & Issues Management; Crisis Communications; and Mergers & Acquisitions. He works with senior leaders to navigate complex regulatory environments and influence the behavior of their most important stakeholders. He has led sensitive campaigns for the world’s most admired brands during transformative moments, with particular focus on the media & telecom, retail, CPG, QSR, higher education, and sports industries. Vermillion holds a B.A. in economics from Fairfield University and an M.S. in strategic communications from Columbia University. http://sps.columbia.edu/communication/executive-master-of-science-in-strategic-communication

Planning and Promoting the Creation of Scientific Knowledge - Spring 2012 Symposium
Spring 2012 Scholarly Communication Symposium on Monday, April 30, 2012 Speakers: Amy Brand (Assistant Provost for Faculty Appointments | HARVARD UNIVERSITY) Lynne Herndon (Senior Vice President of Global Academic Relations | ELSEVIER) "I believe that publishers, often with the help of participating researchers, will continue to add value to content by inventing new tools to enhance their workflows. I believe a form of peer review will always exist and that as information proliferates, the need for filtering and curation will also grow. I believe that publishing will be funded in a multitude of ways. And I hope that science will continue to play a major role in scholarship and an increasing one in an informed society." Micah Altman (Director of Research | MIT Libraries) [License of recording: CC-BY-SA] "Since knowledge is not a private good, a pure market approach leads to underprovisioning. Planning for access to the scholarly record should include planning for long-term access beyond the life of a single institution. Important problems in scholarly communications, information science & scholarship increasingly require diverse multi-disciplinary approaches."

Research Without Borders Panel: Communicating Your Research: Social Media and the Research Cycle
At every stage in the research cycle -- planning, researching, preserving, publishing, and distributing -- social media is being used by researchers and scholars to communicate, collaborate, promote their research, and debate. As scholars increasingly move their work to the web, conversations that previously took place within campus walls are now open for the world to pitch in. The benefits of using social media in the academy have been cited, among myriad others, as democratization, widening participation, and engaging new audiences on a global level. But these rapid changes come with challenges: steep learning curves in new technologies for many, committing to public engagement, and embedding social media in everyday work flows. In this Research Without Borders event, hosted by Columbia University's Center for Digital Research and Scholarship's Scholarly Communication Program, panelists Adeline Koh, Roopika Risam, Joshua Drew, and Laura Czerniewicz discuss how social media is changing the way researchers and scholars communicate with each other, on their campuses, and with the public. Scienceroot ICO Review - Blockchain to Further Science
Our today’s review is about the project called Scienceroot. And in the next few minutes we’re going to show you what this thing is all about, their upcoming ICO and tokens. We’ll also take a look at the people making it all work and give you our take on the entire concept behind Scienceroot. 1:15 What is Scienceroot about? The goal of Scienceroot is to create an ecosystem where anyone in the scientific community around the globe will have the ability to gather funding, interact, discuss research ideas, collaborate and in the end, publish their work through a more efficient, intuitive and transparent platform. 2:12 What market is Scienceroot about to enter? The current system of attaining funding, collaboration, and publishing findings is outdated and inefficient. Scienceroot aims to leverage the decentralizing power of blockchain technology to solve the biggest problems with the current situation. Scienceroot is one compact platform offering you access to tools and peers, all in one place. With the help of the underlying currency they plan on bringing collaboration to a worldwide level. 2:54 All about the Science Token The project is creating own cryptocurrency – Science Token. It will be used by the scientific community to get directly involved in promoting science by investing money in a worthy cause. The blockchain is built on the Waves Platform, which is something new for your video review series. Scienceroot has sold 12,500,000 tokens at €0.04 to seed investors and is now getting ready for another round of sale that takes place only next year, from January 15 to February 15. During this one-month period 33,000,000 are supposed to be sold at €0.06, so that’s exactly what you should consider. There will be two more sale rounds, with the final one concluding in 2020. All in all, 500 million tokens are planned to be injected into circulation. So bring your ETH, BTC and fiat. 3:42 Now what about Scienceroot MVP? Scienceroot has developed a multi-purpose application. It is available for testing at https://app.scienceroot.com since last summer. It’s going to be like a huge open access archive of scientific articles at the first stages of development, gradually expanding its features to enable more activities for the scientific community. As for the article publishing feature, every submission will be time-stamped on the blockchain to create an immutable open access archive of all scientific articles. Also by creating an account on the platform, you can connect with fellow peers and showcase your research. Additionally you can use the platform as a marketplace for exchanging all kinds of ideas, tools required for a specific purpose and make money by providing your expertise. Another cool feature of Scienceroot is searching for grants to fund research projects. This feature is dubbed “Funding Portal” and it lets you access a complete index of all international research grants, funding opportunities and scientific jobs. 4:38 Who is on the Scienceroot team? The team started developing the concept for the future platform last year, a couple of months prior to the founding of the Scienceroot entity in August 2017. We’d like to go over the expertise of the team and see how it relates to the concept they’re developing. So let’s take a look at some of the top members of Scienceroot. Vlad Günther is co-founder & CEO. He is a Consultant, Engineer and Project Manager with 6 years of experience in Enterprise IT, Finance and Management. He has worked for major companies like Microsoft and Bosch and is experienced in Cloud platforms, VoIP systems, enterprise architecture and Data Security. He is passionate about blockchain and cryptocurrencies, and inspired by decentralization. Alexandru Chirita is another Co-Founder & Science Lead at Scienceroot. He is a physicist currently doing his PhD at the University of Vienna. He’s working among one of the few people in the world who managed to controllably manipulate individual atoms. Having the opportunity to work with researchers and being inspired by them, he came up with the concept of Scienceroot to help change the current status of the scholarly communication and publishing ways. Sven Seemann is Frontend/Backend and Blockchain Developer on the team. His professional background is in developing healthcare software. His main programming languages are Java, CSS, HTML and Javascript. After his first contact in 2017 with blockchain, he realized the potential it has to improve the scientific community. __ Token: Science Token (ST) Token supply: 500,000,000 Platform: Waves Platform ICO start: January 15, 2019 ICO goal: $11,587,500 Presale: complete Registered Country: Romania Scienceroot company founded: August 2017 #cryptotimes #ScienceRoot #sciencetoken #ico #crypto
