After a scary and unpredictable week, things have calmed down and Hercules is starting to get back to his old self. We're hoping he's in the clear. To recap: we gave him a vet-recommended flea/tick treatment (Frontline Plus) last Monday and he had a bad reaction. We had used the same brand for two years with no ill effects. Both vets we consulted had never heard of any serious complications from flea/tick products, but if you google the ingredients, you'll find horror stories. US pet owners reported 44,263 incidents to the EPA in 2008 and although most were minor, 600 dogs and cats died that year. The majority of flea/tick products contain pesticides but non-toxic alternatives do exist (diatomaceous earth, Dawn dish soap, a flea comb, towelling off your dog to get rid of ticks after walks in the woods, etc).

The medication is called Bravecto. It's a dog chew so powerful that one dose can kill fleas and ticks for three months. Pharmaceutical giant Merck says it's safe and effective, but the number of dog owners who think otherwise is growing.

Everyone’s been bitten by insects like mosquitoes, ticks, and bees. Sometimes, knowing what kind of insect bit us can be helpful, to know how to lessen the pain, swelling, and itchiness. With that in mind, we’re going to show you five of the most common insect bites, their symptoms, and how they should be treated. 1.Mosquito bites Normally the area around the bite turns red and swells. They can also cause minor irritation and become itchy. To relieve the urge to itch, put a little lotion or alcohol on the bite and massage the area. However, if you feel pain in your joints, fever, swollen lymph nodes or other more severe symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately. If that happens, you might've been bitten by a mosquito that was carrying a dangerous poison. 2. Flea Bites Normally fleas leave three or four red dots on your skin. These little bumps can be really itchy, so the first thing you should do is apply calamine lotion or coconut oil to help with that. Avoid scratching these areas so as not to damage your skin. 3. Bed bug bites These little bugs are crafty and their bite can have different effects on different people. Some people, for example, can be bitten and not feel anything. Others, however, may suffer from an allergic reaction and experience swelling, itchiness and dermatitis. You can wash the affected area with soap and water, but you should still make it a point to see a doctor. 4. Spider bites Technically spiders are not bugs (they’re arachnids) , but we decided to include them because spider bites are very common. Most of the time, spider bites are harmless, but there are some exceptions, such as the black widow or the brown recluse, whose bites can have serious consequences. If a spider bites you, wash the area with soap and water. Next, apply ice. If the swelling continues, see a doctor immediately. 5. Tick bites Ticks are also not insects. Just like spiders, ticks are arachnids. They’re normally found on horses, dogs, and cats. They are so dangerous that their bite could cause serious diseases, such as Lyme disease. Tick bites leave a large red ring on your skin. First, you must remove the tick with a pair of tweezers. Don't put any oil on the affected area and keep it away from heat. All you need to do is wash your skin with soap and water. Then go see a doctor to make sure you don’t have any major diseases. It is an infestation of the skin by a burrowing flea called chigoe fleas. These fleas tend to infest those who have inadequate living conditions and sanitation. The flea lives both outside around warm-blooded mammals and inside poorly constructed homes. It inhabits dust on floors, cracks in walls and bedding. Shoes protect to some degree but are often not affordable or adequate. More needs to be done to ensure a flea-free environment, including extermination and sanitation measures, improvements in home construction and making clean bedding more commonplace. The parasites burrow into the skin and then swell up with eggs; the larvae hatch and the cycle continues. Fleas cause untold suffering in the afflicted, interfering with sleep, and causing itching, pain and the inability to walk. The parasite can afflict all parts of the body. Victims are often socially stigmatized, left isolated and without family or communal support. In this video you are seeing the sand fleas being removed from human skin. Viewer discretion is advised! https://www.epicnaturalhealth.com/what-is-the-best-natural-flea-treatment-for-my-cat-or-dog/ What is the best natural flea treatment for dogs & Cats flea's bite will cause painful, itchy irritation in dogs and cats and people are not immune to flea bites as well. Fleas (like bedbugs) can reproduce pretty quickly, making your home quite uncomfortable. Most people want to Get rid of fleas as quickly as possible will ensure they don't spread from your pet (or yard) to people. The problem with many flea killers is that they contain nasty chemicals. commercial flea collars are often not popular especially when your kids and other family members play with the pet, they’re also being exposed to toxic pesticides and other chemicals. Here are some natural remedies to ensure that your pets, and your home, are itch-free! 1. Make your own non-toxic flea killer-with 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon of essential orange oil. Combine the oil and baking soda into a jar. Shake well to combine and then sprinkle your pet and rub the powder mixture into their skin. 2. make an anti flea shampoo - by using 1/2 cup of dog shampoo mixed with 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice and two cups of water. Wash your dog weekly to the kill the critters. Many natural flea sprays contain a citrus extract called D-limonene, which repels and kills these biting bugs. PUBLIC DOMAIN 3. Keep fleas away from your yard with landscaping The easiest way to get rid of fleas is to not get them in the first place. Deter fleas (and other annoying bugs) by choosing your landscaping wisely. Planting lemon balm, sage, catnip, mint, basil, and lemongrass throughout your garden and keeping pots of the same herbs near outside living areas. . Make your own flea color Keep your pup safe while he plays in the backyard by making your own flea collar from a bandana. Mix 3 to 5 drops of lavender oil with 1 to 3 tablespoons of water. Use an eye dropper to apply a few drops of the solution to the bandana and tie it loosely around your pet's neck Bathe Your Pets And Pet Bedding Each Week While bathing your pets may seem obvious, many people overlook the importance of proper pet hygiene to keep fleas and ticks at bay. Fleas are less attracted to clean pets, which is another reason why frequent bathing of your dog and cat is so important. Use a natural shampoo or peppermint shampoo, and add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to the warm bath water, which will provide even more flea protection. And don’t neglect to clean your pets’ bedding! Washing their bedding regularly in hot water with a mild detergent will eliminate flea eggs and larvae. Use a Flea Comb Each Day Using a fine flea comb not only helps to prevent flea infestation, but also removes existing pests. Dead pet hair lands on mats, which provide the perfect hiding spot for ticks and a lush breeding ground for fleas. For the best results, comb your furry friends’ stomach, tail and face, which is where pests typically hang out in the largest numbers. Combing also provides you with the ability to find and remove any recent ticks Apple Cider Vinegar Flea Deterrents Another wonderful do-it-yourself natural flea repellent spray is made with apple cider vinegar which I mentioned earlier. It’s easy to prepare and poses no risk to your pets’ health. Simply mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water. Add the mixture to a spray bottle and frequently spritz it on your dog or cat pet. It’s recommended that you also spray the mixture on their bedding. You can make this apple cider spray even more powerful by adding a few drops of essential oils that are distasteful to fleas, such as lemongrass, neem and catnip oil. The Flea-Busting Power of Coconut Oil Why is coconut oil such an effective flea repellent? It’s packed with lauric acid, which is coconut oil’s “secret ingredient” that deters both fleas and ticks. It’s also great for providing your cat or dog with healthy skin and coat! If your pet already has fleas, you can dip your hands in coconut oil and massage them deep into your pet’s coat, working all the way down to the skin. Next, take a fine flea comb and comb it through the fur. The coconut oil will cause the fleas to stick to the comb, and the rest will be repelled by the coconut oil and jump off! Brewer’s Yeast Both fleas and ticks have an aversion to the vitamin thiamine, which is abundant in brewer’s yeast. Thiamine is a member of the B vitamin group, and is a non-toxic way to repel fleas and ticks, and also boost your cat or dog’s immune system. How does it work? When your pet consumes brewer’s yeast, it ingests thiamine and later exudes it through its skin. Fleas are repelled by the taste and odor. Use 1mg per 5 lbs. of body weight in your pet’s food. You can also help keep fleas away from your dog or cat by rubbing brewer's ye Diatomaceous Earth is another popular natural flue treatment https://www.epicnaturalhealth.com/what-is-the-best-natural-flea-treatment-for-my-cat-or-dog/

Flea Treatment For Humans: In this video, we are going to share flea treatment for humans - how to treat flea bites on humans & pets-flea treatment at home for pets. Subscribe to our channel for more videos. Watch: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSliLuYKGl0) How to Treat Flea Bites on Humans and Pets Fleas are tiny, irritating insects that mostly attack pets. But, if you have pets or live in an area where fleas are common, chances are high that you may also suffer from flea bites. Flea bites are itchy as well as painful. The bites may appear as small, red bumps, typically in groups of three or four or in a straight line. They are most often seen around the ankles or legs, however, bites can also be noticed around the waist, armpits or in the folds of the elbows and knees Excessive scratching can damage the skin and lead to a secondary bacterial infection. To treat and prevent flea bites, your first line of defense should be controlling the infestation. At the same time, there are many natural methods that you can use to quickly treat flea bites on yourself as well as your pets. Here are the top 10 ways to treat flea bites on humans and pets. 1. Cold Compresses Applying a cold compress can help stop itching and pain due to flea bites. This remedy works for humans as well as pets. The cold temperature has a numbing effect on the nerve endings that helps soothe the itching sensation. It also reduces swelling. 1.Clean the site of the bite and the area around it with warm, soapy water. 2.Wrap a few ice cubes in a thin washcloth. 3.Put the ice pack on the affected area for no more than 2 to 3 minutes. 4.Take a break, then reapply the pack. 5.Continue doing this for 10 to 15 minutes, a few times a day. Note: Do not apply ice directly on the skin, as it can lead to ice burns. 2. Baking Soda Another great remedy for flea bites on humans and pets is baking soda. Being a natural acid neutralizer, it provides instant relief from itching. It also reduces swelling and inflammation as well as the risk of infection. Simply mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with a little water and apply the thin paste on the flea bite. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse it off with cool water. Use this remedy 1 or 2 times a day only. Alternatively, add 1 cup of baking soda to a bathtub filled with cool water. Stir it well. Soak yourself in this soothing water for 10 minutes, then pat yourself dry with a soft towel. Do this once daily. Both cats and dogs can be treated with a paste made from 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a little water to prevent itching and scratching. Use a cotton ball to apply this mixture on the affected area. Leave it on for 5 minutes, then rinse it off with cool water. In case your pet is itching all over, give your pet a bath with ½ to 1 cup of baking soda mixed in its bath water. Note: Do not use baking soda on broken skin or open wounds. 3. Apple Cider Vinegar Raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar is another excellent home remedy to treat flea bites. This remedy works well for humans as well as pets. It can help reduce inflammation and soothe itching on the affected area. Its acetic acid content also prevents infections. Dip a cotton ball in raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and place it on the affected area. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then remove the cotton ball. Try this effective remedy a few times a day until you get relief. If it causes irritation, try diluting the apple cider vinegar with water before applying it. For pets, mix equal parts of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the affected areas on your pet’s body. Be careful to avoid spraying it in your pet’s eyes, ears and nose. Repeat a few times daily. You can also spray the solution on flea-infested surfaces. My flea treatment lasts three to six months on my dogs. Time depends on how often they go swimming ! Why pay fifty dollars? I found the same active ingredient for pennies per treatment. I normally use a spritz bottle and just give a squirt or two between the shoulder blades and at the base of the tail. Since Sadie sleeps with me, I DEFINITELY know when she needs some more !

In this video, Dr. Justine Lee, DACVECC, DAVT, emergency critical care and toxicology specialist, discusses flea and tick medication poisoning in cats. You should NEVER apply a dog flea and tick topical medication to your cat without a) carefully reading the instructions, b) confirming with your veterinarian. That's because high-concentration topical flea and tick medications made of pyrethroids/pyrethrins can be deadly to cats. While these products are safe for dogs, pyrethrins/pyrethroids can cause severe foaming of the mouth, tremoring, seizures, hyperthermia, clotting abnormalities, and death in cats. Capone needed to take a pill, he hates taking pills and always eats the treat around it. This is terribly frustrating and worrisome...... This is fool proof and safe for your fingers, and more importantly your pet. DO NOT force you pets mouth open!! Heck, he/she will bite back, its a natural reaction, ouch!! Now, you can see how easy it is. Just watch your fingers, or you will be taking pain pills.....LOL! If you are unable to get the pill far enough over the base of the tongue, the dog will spit it out. Tip #1 - Place the medication inside a ball of cheese. Soft cheeses, such as cream cheese, create perfect hiding places for pills. Form a ball around the pill and give it to your dog. He will likely not even realize the medication was in the cheese. If your dog prefers harder cheese, such as cheddar or American, trying wrapping a slice around the pill. You may need to use something to adhere the pill to the harder cheese, such as butter or cream cheese. If so, cover the pill with the sticky substance, then wrap the cheese around the pill. Tip #2 - Hide the pills inside meat, such as hot dogs or liverwurst. Most dogs like how these foods taste and will be willing to snack on them. Simply shove the pill in the middle of a piece of hot dog, or form a liverwurst ball around the medication. Most dogs will gobble up these tasty treats without noticing the hidden pills. https://www.chewy.com https://www.1800petmeds.com https://www.petcaresupplies.com https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/flea-pills-dogs/ https://www.petsmart.com https://www.certapet.com/best-flea-tick-treatment-dogs/ https://www.allivet.com https://www.petbasics.com/special-content/flea-products-for-dogs Tip #3 - Place the medication inside a ball of peanut butter. Besides tasting good, peanut butter also makes dogs lick excessively because of its sticky nature. Your dog will likely be so distracted by his licking that he won't even notice a pill hiding among the goodness. Tip #4 - Smash the pill into a powder form and hide it in food. Place the pill inside a bag and use a hammer to crush it into powder. Place the powder into a small amount of soft food, such as sour cream. Avoid hiding the powder in larger amounts of food, just in case your dog doesn't eat it all. Tip #5 - Buy treats that are specifically made for hiding medication. Treats intended for this purpose usually have pockets inside of them that will hide the pill. The treats are often so delicious to the dog that he doesn't even notice the medication. Tip #6 - Do not let your dog see you hide the medication or sniff the treat, if possible. Some dogs will not take the treats if they see their owners manipulating them. Furthermore, if your dog is able to smell the pill hidden in the treat he will likely not eat it. Use your hands. You can use your hands instead of a pill dropper. All you have to do is have the dog sit upright, tilt the head back, open the mouth, and then drop the pill. Massage the throat and neck area to help the dog swallow the pill. #nexGard # Frontline Plus Flea & Tick #Sentinel Red 6 #advantage 2 #Trifexus #Simparica #K9 Advantix #Vectra 3D #Confortis 6pk nexgard, frontline plus flea and tick sentinel red 6 flea, advantage 2 fleas, Simparica flea and tick https://www.chewy.com https://www.1800petmeds.com https://www.petcaresupplies.com https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/flea-pills-dogs/ https://www.petsmart.com https://www.certapet.com/best-flea-tick-treatment-dogs/ https://www.allivet.com https://www.petbasics.com/special-content/flea-products-for-dogs Questions on Video? Hot spots, also known as acute moist dermatitis, are red, moist, hot and irritated lesions that are typically found on a dog’s head, hip or chest area. Hot spots often grow at an alarming rate within a short period of time because dogs tend to lick, chew and scratch the affected areas, further irritating the skin. Hot spots can become quite painful. Anything that irritates the skin and causes a dog to scratch or licks himself can start a hot spot. Hot spots can be caused by allergic reactions, insect, mite or flea bites, poor grooming, underlying ear or skin infections and constant licking and chewing prompted by stress or boredom. In this video I document the timing and effectiveness of Comfortis flea treatment. After a flea infestation that just would NOT go away, we tried flea baths, collars, dips, drops, the works. Nothing worked. Comfortis seems to have done the job. So far, I'm pretty happy with it. I will continue to document its effectiveness for the next few weeks. Please note: We do not sell this product. I am just documenting its progress in getting rid of fleas.

High Quality, high bitrate (480p) version of the video is available here: https://youtu.be/swOlStlBt_w Recently started blog where I share my experience with dog & cat care: http://911rescue.blogspot.com/ It took about 60 minutes for Comfortis to kill all fleas that Dudah had; I treated over 60 dogs with Comfortis donated to shelter by WVS and only one dog had mild side effects such as vomiting and was lethargic for few hours. My experience is that Comfortis is very effective against fleas and does break one reproduction cycle of the fleas however I have found Fipronil to be even more effective against fleas since it breaks the reproduction cycle of fleas twice with only one treatment when properly dosed. Interesting thing about Comforits is that once poisoned all fleas rush to the dog's head as seen in the video and soon after they all die...PS parcel with flea treatment was sent to shelter in June but was stuck at customs service for two months, it took several invoices from WVS and lots of negotiations, phone calls before it was released and by that time we had serious infestation with fleas... We currently provide shelter for 92 dogs, since October 2013 the shelter dogs have bee flea free and there has been no need to use any flea treatment since then with exception of new arrivals... There is quarantine area for new dogs and pups that are rescued from street and they get treated against fleas and intestinal parasites in that area before they are introduced to other dogs at the shelter. That's two full years without fleas and without intestinal parasites! To achieve complete eradication of fleas I used single treatment with Comfortis and then 30 days later a properly dosed Fipronil spot on solution for each dog (pretty much any brand will work). Our vet is not fond of Comfortis simply because it's still a new drug and recommends it to be used as a last resort to nuke the fleas and it really does that job well...

http://cridyxu.blogspot.com/2013/07/advantage-flea-control-on-sale.html click this link to get advantage flea control at the best price advantage flea control Flea Allergy Dermatitis, an allergic reaction to the flea saliva's antigen, affects 40 percent of all pets, reveals statistics from veterinarians. Advantage flea control is a monthly treatment medication for dogs (7 weeks or older) and cats (8 weeks or older). This medicinal drug provides comprehensive protection not only from fleas, but eggs and larvae as well. It also controls and prevents lice on dogs, although it is ineffective on ticks. Advantage flea control works within 12 hours of application. It is easy and safe to apply. Moreover, it is completely waterproof, and continues to work even if your pet gets wet. Advantage flea control: How Does it Work? The active ingredient of this pet medication is imidacloprid. This acts on the fleas' nervous system; causing them to paralysis and subsequently die. The second active ingredient of the medication, pyriproxyfen, regulates insect growth. Once eggs are laid by a female flea on the pet, pyriproxyfen restricts the eggs from hatching, thus ending the life cycle of the flea. Advantage flea control: How to Use the Product? To apply Advantage flea control, the applicator tip should be placed on the pet's skin level. For best results on cats, apply Advantage over the nape of the neck. On dogs under 20 lbs, the medication should be applied to the skin on the back, between the shoulder blades. For dogs weighing more, the entire content of one tube should be applied on 3 to 4 spots along the skin between the shoulder and the tail. Advantage flea control: How to Store the Product? Advantage should be stored in a cool and dry place. Do not keep this medication in the refrigerator. The empty container must not be reused. The empty container must be ideally wrapped in a cloth or bag before placing it in trash. If the container is filled partly, it is advisable to call a local solid waste agency to avoid contamination. As Advantage flea control may have adverse reactions on both pets and humans keep it out of the reach of your pets and children. Advantage flea control: Caution The product must not come in contact with the pet's mouth or eyes. If it does, wash with soap and plenty of water. Individual sensitivities, although a rarity, may occur on using the product. If signs persist or worsen, consult your veterinarian. Call a poison control center immediately if the medication is swallowed by your pet, or in case of an overdose. Moreover, you must talk to your vet if your pet is on another medication or is undergoing treatment with another pesticide. Usage of Advantage on pregnant, nursing, aged or debilitated pets must also be confirmed with a vet. If you want to order Advantage flea control for keeping your pet healthy, go to www.petplanrx.com. After months of trying all kinds of natural methods of killing fleas (baking soda, salt, apple cider vinegar etc.), flea shampoos, flea sprays, and vacuuming my apartment almost every day, I finally gave up and bought Frontline. After I applied it my poor cats were scratching like crazy for HOURS. It was heartbreaking to watch, they were in agony. My older cat started foaming at the mouth and panicking, but I was too scared to think of filming it. They are flea-free now, but covered in scabs. Turns out, it is a common side effect of Frontline and similar products. flea medicine for cats flea medicine for dogs cat flea medicine best flea medicine for dogs best cat flea medicine flea medicine cats pet flea medicine best dog flea medicine best flea treatment for cats best cat flea treatment best flea treatment for dogs best dog flea treatment best flea treatment how to get rid of fleas on cats how to get rid of cat fleas getting rid of cat fleas how to get rid of fleas on a cat getting rid of fleas on cats get rid of fleas on cat flea remedies flea remedies for dogs flea remedy natural flea remedy my cat has fleas cat has fleas frontline flea treatment frontline flea treatment for cats frontline cat flea treatment frontline flea treatment for dogs frontline dog flea treatment frontline flea treatment cats frontline flea for cats frontline cat flea frontline flea cats frontline flea cat frontline flea control for cats cat flea frontline how to kill fleas kill fleas killing fleas what kills fleas kill fleas on dogs what kills fleas on dogs frontline side effects cat flea treatment side effects

I am a dog and cat groomer by trade & see a lot of problematic things when it comes to pets. Sadly, this was one of the worst cases of fleas I've seen on a dog in a long time. I know this video is very short but I wanted to share it to try and educate the public on the importance of keeping ur pets flea-free. My newest grooming disaster video: https://youtu.be/NIhF2DecK38 ---Why should u worry?--- -Fleas this bad can actually make ur dog Anemic! They drink ur pet's blooded for food. If you let it get to this point or beyond your pet is even in risk of death from blood loss! (I am not a vet but I have learned this from my experience working along side vets) ---What do I do?--- -Flea prevention is key and the best way to do this is to get a monthly oral prescription from ur vet. Topical treatments such as Advantage or Frontline DO NOT WORK VERY GOOD! Fleas have evolved and have become immune to these products! Scary huh!? -Giving them a flea bath will kill the fleas on ur pet, but there are fleas in ur house, yard, anywhere ur pets lives, so they'll just end up jumping right back onto ur pet! You can speed up the process further by exterminating ur house and yard after u have given ur pet it's treatment. (Obviously do not leave pet in house/yard while exterminating!)
