10 Things about Vaginal Birth Recovery You Need to Know After nine months of pregnancy during which you experienced a lot of physical and emotional changes, you are finally blessed with a baby. Congratulations! After vaginal birth, it is important to focus on your healing and taking care of your body as well as your newborn. 1. Get Proper Rest and Sleep Looking after a newborn is more than a full-time job, and new mothers often do not give much importance to rest and sleep. If needed, get extra support and sleep when your baby sleeps. Ask your partner to help with diaper changing duty at night so that you can get good sleep. 2. Use a Sitz Bath Afterbirth pain – the cramping you feel as your uterus shrinks back to its regular size – is often unbearable. Try sitting in a sitz bath filled with warm water, three times a day and after bowel movements. Also, after urinating, pour a little warm water over the genital area to reduce the pain. You can also soak a maxipad in witch hazel and wear it to help ease pain. 3. Use Ice Packs One practice is common during hospital births – use of ice packs. To reduce the swelling or pain around the opening of your vagina, ice packs are very helpful. Put water on a sanitary pad and freeze it to use as an ice pack. Repeat 2 or 3 times a day. You can also wrap a few ice cubes in a towel and place it against the aching area for 5 to 10 minutes. Do this a few times a day. Note: Never leave an ice pack on for longer than 15 minutes. Also, have a protective layer of fabric between your sensitive skin and the ice pack. 4. Wear Extra Maxi Pads No matter how you give birth, postpartum bleeding is normal. This type of bleeding is called lochia and can last from 2 to 6 weeks after birth. Using tampons is not recommended during this time, as they can introduce bacteria into your healing uterus. To prevent occasional overflow, you can even wear mesh undies. These are readily available in the hospital and are easily disposable. 5. Do Kegel Exercises For quick recovery after vaginal birth, it’s important to strengthen your pelvic muscles. Practice Kegel exercises to strengthen your pelvic muscles after 1 to 2 weeks post-delivery. To do this exercise: Squeeze the muscles you use to stop the flow of urine. Hold for 10 seconds, then release for 10 seconds. Repeat 10 to 15 times. Do these Kegel sets 2 or 3 times a day. 6. Take Care of Any Stitches Not all women need stitches after a vaginal birth, but some may need them. Most stitches take up to 3 weeks to heal and will dissolve on their own. Use a squirt bottle filled with warm water to clean your bottom after using the washroom. Drink enough water to keep your urine diluted. This will make it less painful while urinating. Try using an inflatable ring on the toilet to take the pressure off your bottom when you sit. 7. Handle Hemorrhoids Post-delivery, whether it is a vaginal birth or C-section, some women experience hemorrhoids, which have symptoms like swollen veins in and around the anus and rectum. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Have whole grains and foods rich in fiber. Drink plenty of water and avoid coffee and carbonated beverages. You may need to ask your doctor for a stool softener until things heal up. You can also opt for a topical hemorrhoid cream. 8. Take Care of Breast Soreness After delivery, your breasts start producing milk for feeding, irrespective of whether you plan to breastfeed. It is best to breastfeed, as it not only benefits the newborn baby but also helps your recovery. During the initial stage, your breasts may become heavy and sore, and you may find it difficult to feed your baby. Try to feed your baby or pump often to prevent engorgement and leaking. If your nipples are sore, make sure your baby is latching on properly. Wear a nursing bra with good support. Use breast pads to prevent milk leakage. 9. Check for Signs of Infection Any kind of infection can delay the healing process and make things worse for a new mother. The first sign of an infection on the stitches is increased pain and a thick yellow or greenish discharge from around the stitches. The most obvious sign of an infection in the uterus is a foul or rotten odor in the vaginal blood. 10. Handle Your Emotions Women feel emotional after the birth of a baby, and sometimes these emotions are not even positive! But if you are still feeling depressed or low even after 2 weeks of delivery, don’t keep it to yourself. Talk with your doctor. You may be suffering from postpartum depression, and treatment is available. And although there are several different reasons for this, I share with you what happens to the bones of the pelvis during labor that can leave women too sore to sit comfortably. In today's Q & A Wednesday, I answer the question: My tailbone has been really sore and sensitive after giving birth. Often it hurts to sit down on hard surfaces, and when I try to do some of the post-natal exercises it is uncomfortable. Why is this? Will it go away? Hey moms, did you experience this type of soreness after you gave birth? I did for sure! Share your story and thoughts in the comment box below or over on the blog. Up until I made this video I never really spoke so in depth about how I really felt during this time in my life. It brought back a lot of emotions and although my tears are full of pain, they are also full of gratitude. Had I not gone through what I went through, I wouldn't be the mother and person I am today. Although I felt weak and helpless while I was living it, it made me stronger and hopeful for the life I know I will create, and that I am creating for me and my babies. When you have a why you can tolerate any how, and my "why" are the two beautiful faces that look at me every day that give me the privilege of being called "mommy" ***This isn't meant to be an "educational" video. How to Deal with Postpartum Hives After delivery, most mothers are busy taking care of their happy bundle and often forget or do not get the time to take care of their own health. But with a baby who is completely dependent on you, it is even more important to take care of yourself. New mothers can suffer from many problems post-delivery. One irritating problem is hives that cause red, itchy skin. Postpartum hives is very common. It occurs when the immune system reacts to allergens or hormonal changes and releases histamine, a protein, into the bloodstream. The histamine affects the tiny blood capillaries and, when the plasma leaks into the skin, it causes an itchy, red rash. The rashes usually occur on the arms, the feet and the back. Along with rashes, you may also have raised welts, scaly skin and swelling that causes a burning sensation or pain. While hormonal changes in the body and a high stress level are among the most common causes of postpartum hives, it can occur due to other reasons, too. For example, it can be caused by acute medical conditions, certain medications, skin exposure to the sun or extremely cold temperature, allergic reactions to certain foods and additives, insect stings or bites, and even environmental factors. If hives are making you miserable when you should be enjoying every minute of every day as a new mom, the hives won’t last forever. Typically, the condition resolves on its own after about six to eight weeks. However, you can take certain steps to get relief from the symptoms of postpartum hives much faster. Here are some ways to deal with postpartum hives. 1. Cold Compress. An easy way to get instant relief from itching and swelling due to postpartum hives is using cold compresses. 2. Oatmeal. Oatmeal is another good remedy for postpartum hives. Its anti-irritating, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties provide quick relief from itching and swelling. 3. Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is another good remedy that you can try at home. It has antihistamine properties that provide relief from inflammation. It also regulates the body’s immune system response. 4. Aloe Vera. When it comes to skin problems, you can always rely on aloe vera. For dealing with postpartum hives, aloe vera is very effective due to its anti-inflammatory, soothing and moisturizing properties. 5. Turmeric Milk. The anti-inflammatory spice turmeric helps stimulate the body’s natural anti-inflammatory corticosteroids. Also, with natural antihistamine and antioxidant properties, it provides quick relief from symptoms of hives. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Our Social Links: Subscribe To Our Channel : https://goo.gl/7YPKcz For more tips see our blog: https://naturalhealthcarenhc.blogspot.com like us in Facebook: https://goo.gl/MmjtyD Follow us on twitter: https://goo.gl/USDg3k Google plus: https://goo.gl/B5B2oz Special thanks to: http://www.top10homeremedies.com If you found this information cool, useful or valuable please hit share and let your friends benefit from this as well!

Drink plenty of water to help flush your system: It may seem counterintuitive when you’re already retaining so much fluid, but drinking water will actually help reduce your body’s water retention. Try to stay cool: If it’s a hot day, keep your outside time to a minimum and stick to shady spots. If you have access to a pool, you’ll find that offers comfort to reduce postpartum swelling. Soak your feet: Soak your feet in a mixture of aromatherapy oil and water. To improve the blood flow and prevent varicose veins use cypress oil. Lavender or chamomile oil mitigates discomfort. Herbal tea: Have herbal teas in moderation during and after pregnancy. Dandelion tea is a good choice as it helps in preventing fluids from retention. Do not take them if you have gall bladder problems. Cabbage leaves: Place green or white cabbage leaves over the swollen area to relieve the discomfort as it draws out the excess fluids from the swollen legs and feet. Clean the leaves, but not with water and place them in the fridge. Now, wrap the swollen extremities with these cool leaves and leave them until they become wet. Repeat the process until the discomfort eases. Massage: Foot and leg massage is another great way to ease the swelling post pregnancy if you do not experience more swelling and pain. It is great for circulation and cuts off excess fluid build-up. Moderate exercise: Perform moderate exercises and activities as they help improve circulation and remove excess fluids from the body through sweat. Avoid processed foods: Many processed foods contain high amounts of sodium, which can cause bloating and aggravate postpartum swelling. Instead, eat a healthy, balanced diet with good sources of lean protein and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Try to keep sugar and table salt to a minimum. Keep your hands and feet elevated: Rest your hands and feet in an uplifted position for about 30 minutes every day. They should be raised above the level of your heart so that the blood flows into these areas properly. It will, therefore, reduce swelling in the extremities. ****************************************************************** DISCLAIMER: The information in this video are provided for general and educational purposes only and do not constitute any legal, medical or other professional advice on any subject matter. Back pain during and after pregnancy is common. Your body just went through a huge shift in center of gravity and weight. Ligaments were loosened from hormones and your structure went through quite a lot of change. Postpartum pelvic pain: Common symptoms, causes and treatment timelines. To read more about postpartum pelvic pain please visit our website: https://www.pelvicrehabilitation.com/postpartum-pelvic-pain/ To learn more about the doctors and the pelvic health practice please visit our website at: https://www.pelvicrehabilitation.com/ You can also follow our path to bringing exposure to pelvic health concerns on our social media channels. Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/PelvicRehabilitation/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/pelvicrehabilitation/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/PelvicRehab **** Having a child is a miracle. The muscles underneath the uterus are obviously going to get stretched when you have a baby. Postpartum patients can feel pelvic pain in their perineal area. This can be directly after delivery. You can also have pelvic floor dysfunction or pelvic pain after a C-section, contrary to belief, because there is still a baby growing inside that pelvic cavity. A few common postpartum symptoms are pain with intercourse and urinary symptoms, including urinary incontinence when they are exercising or when they're sneezing, urinary frequency, urinary urgency, pelvic pressure. Women also present with pain in their coccyx region. Sometimes during delivery, the coccyx may be fractured or it may shift. When there is a shift in the coccyx, the muscles are now being pulled, and when muscles are pulled, they cause the pelvic floor pain. Many OB-GYNs have asked me when the appropriate time frame is for a patient to be sent for evaluation. Typically, if a patient is not making improvements in their postpartum symptoms, about six to eight weeks postpartum is a good time to send them for medical evaluation.

DIY Padsicle tutorial for natural postpartum pain relief and healing. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Padsicles are treated pads that you make and store in the freezer. The ingredients that are placed on the pad before they are frozen are help for soothing your lady bits after labor. A padsicle is essentially a cooling, soothing icepack for your lady parts after a vaginal delivery. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Instructions from Video: Here is what you will need: *1 pack of heavy or overnight pads. I prefer Seventh Generation Free and Clear Overnight Pads because they are chlorine free (http://amzn.to/2qOx30P) *Witch hazel (http://amzn.to/2FqHbA8) *Lavender Essential Oil (http://amzn.to/2Fmi5Ce) *Aloe Vera Gel (http://amzn.to/2mew6ZY) *A glass baking dish and metal spoon . 1. In a glass baking dish open the pad leaving the adhesive backing and protector on the pad. 2. Squirt about 2 – 4 Tablespoons of witch hazel on the pad and let it soak in. 3. Add a couple drops (2-4) of lavender essential oil to the pad. 4. Using a spoon, spread 2-3 Tablespoons of aloe vera gel on the pad evenly. 5. Fold the pad back up and put in a gallon size Ziplock bag or glass storage container. Once the bag or the container is full of pre-treated pads, store in the freezer until you are ready to use. . This patient had a her first baby boy about one month ago. Soon after delivery she began to experience severe pain in her thoracic spine and rib pain. The intensity of the pain was so bad that it would keep her up all night. During examination it was discovered that she had very restricted ROM in her thoracic spine as well as her neck and lumbar spine. She had a Gonstead full spine adjustment after electrical stimulation and heat and felt an immediate relief. After massage therapy with my in house CMT she felt even better. She will follow up on Friday with one more visit.

A new mom has written in saying that she just had her baby & her breasts hurt after breastfeeding. I give some tips in today's vlog. http://www.cloudmom.com Hi friends. A new mom has written in saying that she just had her baby and her breasts hurt after breastfeeding. This is so common and it happened to me with all five of my babies. What is happening? In my experience, when your milk starts to come in, it can come in too much and too fast. I remember feeling like Niagara Falls, but with milk - ugh! Although you might be rounding out your bra, which for some of us is always a nice thing, it can be so uncomfortable! In my experience, the trick lies in distinguishing between routine breast pain, and early signs of blocked ducts and mastitis. I discuss all of that in today's blog. Pain in Breast After Breastfeeding Breast engorgement is very common in the early days after having a baby. My doctor advised me to have the baby on my breasts consistently nursing for 15-20 minutes on each side every 2-3 hours. In the normal course of things, this early breast pain should go away within around 10 days to 2-3 weeks. Now, I always had some nipple pain from sore nipples because the babies suck was so strong. This is normal. But, if you feel pain in your inner breast, be very careful -- especially a sore spot -- because this could be mastitis. It's very common and you have to treat a blocked duct or mastitis right away by frequent nursing and pumping, and in some cases antibiotics. If you feel nausea or flu-like (both recognized mastitis symptoms), go to your doctor right away! For more tips, watch today's video. Hang in there and don't give up! xo Melissa WATCH How to Relieve Engorged Breasts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMzR_X13Mc8 WATCH Breastfeeding Help - Sore Nipples When Breastfeeding http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWWutDdk8vY WATCH How to Breastfeed: Getting Baby to Latch On http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwLbPXT4xUE Stay tuned for more how-to video guides for parents, from one mom to you! ____________________________________________________ CloudMom on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cloudmom CloudMom on Pinterest: https://pinterest.com/CloudMom/ CloudMom on Twitter: https://twitter.com/CloudMom CloudMom on Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CloudmomMelissa/posts CloudMom on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/CloudMomShows http://CoudMom.com

Constipation is something that every woman should try to avoid after having a baby. The medications given for nausea and pain during labor and in the immediate postpartum period can cause constipation, so it’s extra important to make sure that you’re drinking enough water, eating foods that are high in fiber, and also taking a stool softener as recommended by your doctor. If you do become constipated, it can make bowel movements extremely painful, especially as it relates to everything that’s going on because you just had a baby. So if those interventions aren’t helping, talk with your doctor and they can recommend other treatments for you. But there are a few things that, generally speaking, work for most people. Like I said, make sure you’re drinking a lot of water, and especially if you’re a nursing mother you need more water anyway. So, while you’re nursing, fill up a cup of water and drink while your baby’s drinking. Just make that a habit and that will help make sure you’re getting enough. If your urine is light yellow to clear then you’re drinking enough water. If not, then make sure that you drink even more. Also make sure that you’re eating high fiber foods. Pears and apples with the skin left on are especially helpful, as well as raisins and prunes, popcorn, sweet potatoes, peas, spinach, beans - all of these things are really high in fiber. Now, do know that if you normally eat a diet full of lots of processed food and you start to eat high fiber food, it can cause gas and bloating. That may stray you away from wanting to eat high fiber food, but keep at it, slowly introduce more fiber. You can even use fiber supplements and eventually it should help you become more regular and the gas and bloating will start to decrease. Movement also helps - after having a baby sometimes you get a little sedentary because you just feel like you’re sitting on the couch and nursing all the time and trying to catch a nap whenever you can. After you’ve had the baby you shouldn’t exercise until you’ve been checked out by the doctor - either your 6 or 8 week appointment, depending on mode of delivery - but until then you should still move around. This will not only help with constipation, but also reduce your chances for blood clots, which are possible after having a baby. Also be sure that you’re not holding it and that you have good bowel habits, trying to establish a routine as much as you can. Because just like toddlers who are trying to potty train, if adults hold it and don’t listen to those cues that their body is sending them, then their body will stop recognizing them and then the stool will just continue to build up and cause issues with constipation. Now if the things that I’ve talked about aren’t helping, then sometimes people turn to laxatives and those types of things, but those should only be used under the direction of a doctor. So if you’ve had issues with constipation and it’s becoming more of an acute problem, not just a chronic problem, talk with them and they’ll decide what will be best for you. If you have blood in the stool, extreme weight loss or weakness, or if the treatments that your doctor has previously recommended aren’t working, be sure to call them and let them know about those things and they can determine if further investigation is warranted. If you have more questions in the future for me, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/IntermountainMoms and recommend us to your family and friends too.

Preeclampsia & Eclampsia: Risk Factors, Signs & Symptoms, and Treatment.Do you know what is Preeclampsia, Causes. How can we Diagnosis and Treatments during Pregnancy. We have lot of questions in our mind like preeclampsia treatment, how to prevent preeclampsia, preeclampsia definition, what is eclampsia, preeclampsia prevention, preeclampsia risk factors. preeclampsia symptoms at 37 weeks, preeclampsia blood pressure how to overcome this. so don't panic and keep patience. Preeclampsia is a life-threatening medical condition that can happen in about 10% of women usually during the second half of pregnancy and postpartum postbirth. The major signs of preeclampsia are high blood pressure and protein in the urine. Women with preeclampsia can develop headaches and seizures, at which point preeclampsia becomes eclampsia. Both preeclampsia and eclampsia can threaten the baby's and mother's life and potentially injure many organs such as the brain, heart, kidneys and liver. We don't completely understand yet why it happens, and the treatment is usually to deliver the baby. Most women get well as soon as the baby is born. Risk Factors Pregnancy-associated Factors • Multiple gestations (Twins, Triplets,..) • Having a baby with chromosomal abnormalities • Hydatidiform mole • Hydrops fetalis • Oocyte donation or donor insemination • Structural congenital anomalies • Urinary tract infection Maternal-specific Factors • Younger and older mothers (less than 20 years or greater than 35 years) • Hypertension - before pregnancy • Black race • Obesity • Family history of preeclampsia (Mother or sister) • Nulliparity (First baby) • Preeclampsia in a previous pregnancy • Women with certain medical conditions: gestational diabetes, type I diabetes, lupus, renal disease, thrombophilias • Stress • New husband • First-time father • Previously fathered a preeclamptic pregnancy in another woman History of Prior Preeclampsia A woman who had preeclampsia in a previous pregnancy has an increased risk of recurring preeclampsia in her next pregnancy. The exact recurrence risk depends on several factors that are related both to the mother's medical condition, when in pregnancy it was diagnosed, and the circumstances of her prior preeclampsia. The risk of recurrence increases if preeclampsia in the previous pregnancy was diagnosed early in pregnancy and if the woman has had preeclampsia in two previous pregnancies. Women with chronic hypertension, for example, have a 70% risk of recurring preeclampsia in the next pregnancy. And women with severe preeclampsia in their first pregnancy have a 45% risk of recurrence. Treatment for preeclampsia may include: Medications to lower blood pressure These medications, called antihypertensives, are used to lower your blood pressure if it's dangerously high. Blood pressure in the 140/90 millimeters of mercury range generally isn't treated. Although there are many different types of antihypertensive medications, a number of them aren't safe to use during pregnancy. Discuss with your doctor whether you need to use an antihypertensive medicine in your situation to control your blood pressure. Bed rest Bed rest used to be routinely recommended for women with preeclampsia. But research hasn't shown a benefit from this practice, and it can increase your risk of blood clots, as well as impact your economic and social lives. For most women, bed rest is no longer recommended. Hospitalization Severe preeclampsia may require that you be hospitalized. In the hospital, your doctor may perform regular nonstress tests or biophysical profiles to monitor your baby's well-being and measure the volume of amniotic fluid. A lack of amniotic fluid is a sign of poor blood supply to the baby. Delivery If you're diagnosed with preeclampsia near the end of your pregnancy, your doctor may recommend inducing labor right away. The readiness of your cervix whether it's beginning to open (dilate), thin (efface) and soften (ripen) also may be a factor in determining whether or when labor will be induced. In severe cases, it may not be possible to consider your baby's gestational age or the readiness of your cervix. If it's not possible to wait, your doctor may induce labor or schedule a C-section right away. During delivery, you may be given magnesium sulfate intravenously to prevent seizures.
