Dangerous People Are Teaching Your Kids
Dangerous people are filling the heads of young people with dangerous nonsense. Who are these people? They are what Jordan Peterson calls “the post-modernists:” neo-Marxist professors who dominate our colleges and universities. And here’s the worst part: we are financing these nihilists with tax dollars, alumni gifts and tuition payments. Time to wise up. For Students: http://l.prageru.com/2aozfkP JOIN our Educators Network! http://l.prageru.com/2aoz2y9 Script: You may not realize it, but you are currently funding some dangerous people. They are indoctrinating young minds throughout the West with their resentment-ridden ideology. They have made it their life's mission to undermine Western civilization itself, which they regard as corrupt, oppressive and “patriarchal.” If you're a taxpayer—or paying for your kid's liberal arts degree—you're underwriting this gang of nihilists. You're supporting ideologues who claim that all truth is subjective; that all sex differences are socially constructed; and that Western imperialism is the sole source of all Third World problems. They are the post-modernists, pushing “progressive” activism at a college near you. They produce the mobs that violently shut down campus speakers; the language police who enshrine into law use of fabricated gender pronouns; and the deans whose livelihoods depend on madly rooting out discrimination where little or none exists. Their thinking took hold in Western universities in the ‘60s and ‘70s, when the true believers of the radical left became the professors of today. And now we rack up education-related debt—not so that our children learn to think critically, write clearly, or speak properly, but so they can model their mentors' destructive agenda. It's now possible to complete an English degree and never encounter Shakespeare—one of those dead white males whose works underlie our “society of oppression.” To understand and oppose the post-modernists, the ideas by which they orient themselves must be clearly identified. First is their new unholy trinity of diversity, equity and inclusion. Diversity is defined not by opinion, but by race, ethnicity or sexual identity; equity is no longer the laudable goal of equality of opportunity, but the insistence on equality of outcome; and inclusion is the use of identity-based quotas to attain this misconceived state of equity. All the classic rights of the West are to be considered secondary to these new values. Take, for example, freedom of speech—the very pillar of democracy. The post-modernists refuse to believe that people of good will can exchange ideas and reach consensus. Their world is instead a Hobbesian nightmare of identity groups warring for power. They don't see ideas that run contrary to their ideology as simply incorrect. They see them as integral to the oppressive system they wish to supplant, and consider it a moral obligation to stifle and constrain their expression. Reimagining Classrooms: Teachers as Learners and Students as Leaders | Kayla Delzer | TEDxFargo
Why do some classrooms look the same now as they did 70 years ago? In this passionate talk, second grade teacher Kayla Delzer speaks about her mission to revitalize learning and the classroom environment. Kayla explains how to release the power in the classroom by giving students ownership of their learning and making it relevant to them. Breaking down the four walls of the classroom allows her students to become globally connected - and you won’t believe the endeavors her students conquer by embracing purposeful technology. Kayla Delzer is a 2nd grade teacher and Project Lead the Way Lead Teacher in West Fargo, North Dakota. In August, she will begin her 8th year of teaching 2nd grade and her second year with West Fargo Public Schools (WFPS). Teaching is her true passion in life, and she enjoys her job and helping children to love learning and become creative problem solvers. Her students are her focus in life; they are like family to her. In August 2014, she completed her master’s degree in Elementary Education. She also serves on the Technology Task Force and Social Media Task Force for WFPS. Her classroom Twitter account, @tweetingtopdogs, has allowed her students to learn virtually with hundreds of classrooms and educational experts from all over the world. Kayla has teamed up with several companies to improve the lives of students and teachers, and she works frequently with GoNoodle and Remind. She is highly sought after by educational and technology companies to preview and review their products. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Using photos as data to understand how people live | Anna Rosling Rönnlund | TEDxStockholm
Dollar Street is a visual framework for understanding different standards of living within and between countries. By combining documentary photos and income statistics, Dollar Street shows a fact-based worldview that cannot be found anywhere else. Most of us don’t travel the whole world. Our ideas about people in other places and cultures are built up from images that we see in news, movies, natural documentaries and tourist ads. But those images often portray the unusual and extraordinary; they show dramatic events, romantic nature and unusual cultural traditions. People in other places appear to be very different from ourselves. This is unfortunate, as the basic humans needs are identical across all cultures. You need a home and you need to eat, sleep, wash, play and pee. On Dollar Street it’s not the extraordinary, but the common that fascinates. When sorting homes by income, people across the world live in surprisingly similar ways. Born and raised in Sweden, Anna is a visionary whose main goal in life is finding systematic sense in vast amounts of data. As tons of data on individual countries’ health and economics status is collected yearly, Anna’s focus is making this global public data easier to understand, and use. She co-founded Gapminder, an organisation with a mission to “fight devastating ignorance with a fact-based worldview everyone can understand”. Gapminder´s software Trendalyzer was sold over to Google, where Anna later worked to apply her expertise as a User Experience Designer. Anna is now back at Gapminder, making data easily interpretable. She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences with major in Sociology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Photography. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

2017 Cultural Diversity in the Arts Recipients
The City of Edmonton, through the Edmonton Arts Council, established the Cultural Diversity in the Arts program in 2014 to recognize that artists from all parts of the world enrich Edmonton’s cultural scene. Artists from these communities can apply to any Edmonton Arts Council program, but many also face cultural, linguistic or historical barriers to accessing support. The intent of this program is to provide an entry point, to help these artists begin to overcome those barriers, to pursue their professional artistic work and develop connections to the greater Edmonton arts community. Recipients of the 2017 Cultural Diversity in the Arts program: Abdul Malik will use film to produce an artistic examination of various figures that uphold and are indispensable to the diverse and multicultural fabric of Edmonton. Aksam Alyousef is working to mount a full studio production of his play Hagar, a one-woman show about a single mother trying to flee from the war in Syria with her one-year-old son. Cheyenne Bruneau AKA Miss Rae plans to write, record, and release Wild Rose, her sophomore Blues/Soul album with the Midnight Ramblers in Edmonton. One of two Sarangi players in North America, Dr. Deepak Paramashivan will be creating his first studio music album entitled The Blue Line - Lullabies and other Songs of India featuring traditional songs of India on Sarangi and vocals with Western Orchestration. Over two years, Erica Cawagas wrote the original script and music for Emma the Musical to promote international awareness in the preservation and retention of Filipino heritage and culture. Emma the Musical will be staged June 30, 2018 at the University of Alberta, Myer Horowitz Theatre. Jonathan Sherrer is a visual artist who will be examining his strained relationship to his Filipino-Canadian heritage through a large, room-spanning, free-standing autobiographical comic “book” that will unfold as two narratives – one following his Eastern side and the other, the West. Lakshminarayanan (Naren) Ganesan will share his love of Bharatanatyam, Indian classical dance, in a multidisciplinary project celebrating ancient temple rituals and practices in Kshetra. Originally from England and Cameroon, Leo Lucien-Bay will be expanding on a short story he wrote to create a 70-minute animated film that explores our relationship with religion and hero worship. A first generation Turkish-Canadian with roots in the Jewish community, Linda Ozromano will depict her own journey as an immigrant to try to find meaning in loss through a photography project. Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Roya Yazdanmehr weaves between her Middle Eastern, Ukrainian, Canadian and Baha’i communities throughout her work. She will be recording her debut full-length music album entitled Breath & Being. Chinese Canadian filmmaker Shawn Tse is the Director, Co-Producer, Co-Writer, Host and Editor of his new project Seconds, Please! This video-based series will explore the transmission of culture and food between first and second generation immigrants. Black Girl Magic is a collective of seven African diaspora women: Shima Aisha Robinson, Jules Nyx, Nasra Adem, Mpoe Mogale, Medgine Mathurin, Karimah Ashanti Marshall, and Fatima (Effy) Adar. They are creating a multimedia work of audiovisual performance art exploring their roots and the women who built Edmonton. Film Credit: Cineflair Productions

Mark O'Connor | "O'Connor Method" Teacher-Training Overview (60 min)
www.oconnormethod.com www.oconnormethodstringcamp.com For More YouTubes of Mark O'Connor's Music Education: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL30538F811506AE84 The video includes numerous violin/fiddle performances by Mark O'Connor throughout. Mark O'Connor authored the groundbreaking O'Connor Method of American classics and released the first two books in 2009. Since then, the method books have become the fastest-growing violin method with tens of thousands of children learning to play violin, viola, cello and bass from the series around the world. A companion set of books for string orchestra in schools, adds to its importance, power and results. Mr. O'Connor regularly conducts 10-hour Teacher-Training seminars to certify teachers in his O'Connor Method. This 60-minute video represents a unique overview of his history-making work in violin and string pedagogy, introducing and formalizing for the first time "A New American School of String Playing". This is a must-see video for all serious string teachers as the work O'Connor has accomplished, and the information shared here is comprehensive, and in fact revolutionary for music education. "The reason why I felt like I had to take ten or more years out of my successful performing, recording and composing career in order to author this violin method, is because of what I saw first-hand with my beloved instrument. In traveling around the country giving masterclasses and workshops, as well as hosting my own string camps, I saw that the violin as we once knew it, was dying out - no more violin-playing composers, arrangers, improvisers and ensemble leaders (like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Paganini, Dvorak, Kreisler...) let alone classical violin players with any original ideas in music...with the attrition rate of taking 3 and 4 years of violin, and even the attrition rate of Julliard string grads, it was going downhill fast. I often ask string teachers today, who is the newest violin star they know of, and the answer is always someone from at least 20 or 25 years ago! I found it shocking that there was no more creativity in violin-playing circles anymore. There has never been an American School formalized, and it's about time there is one. From violin studios all the way to music conservatories, continuing to ignore the important cultural diversity of American string playing, it continues to be shameful in my opinion – the complete ignoring of this great music and culture. My materials go to turning things around for the better. Western Classical music, which is in trouble from every angle one can see now, could seriously benefit from a rising "School" of American string playing because like everything in America, it is inclusive of Europe, yes, but it's also inclusive of Africa, and the Middle East, South America, Mexico and Asia... Diversity is the right message for students today. The last thing leaders and teachers of music should be doing today in America or anywhere for that matter, is continuing the 'whites-only club', repeating music of dead white composers exclusively for children as the only music somehow worthy enough to learn. The diversity of America is the bright light we want to inspire students with and the American Violin' has been around for 400 years not only inhabiting the music, but in fact instrumental in creating the blues, Spirituals, hoedowns and ragtime, all foundations of American music. Music teachers should be leading on this, and now is the time to do so. The O'Connor Method features a lot of African American music, Hispanic music, Native American music as well as European, basically representing all of the world's culture in order to make up American string playing. Students want to be able to play in tune, in time, read music, play by ear... but they also want to be creative, and learn how to improvise and write music as well as be in bands or ensembles of most any kind. I can help teachers find those lightbulb moments with their students with the amazing materials and lessons plans from the O'Connor Method." -Mark O'Connor (2018) For all information on the Method with further academic research papers for download and samples of the music etc, please visit www.oconnormethod.com The O'Connor Method String Camp, Charlotte. Unconventional students at Rice 2018: Diversity of thought
Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley in a mostly Mexican-American community, Austin Figueroa felt a cultural shock when he entered Rice. “Rice was a fairy tale for me,” he said. “Coming from one of the lowest-income communities in the country, it was very different coming to Rice and seeing a different way of living and thinking.” Figueroa, who is graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, has been passionate about music since he was little. Under the stage name Kid Fig, he continued making music at Rice and described his experiences as a Hispanic American through a mixture of English and Spanish raps. Growing up around old-school lowrider cars sparked his love for mechanics. “I told my father I loved cars, and I wanted to be a mechanic,” Figueroa said. “He told me I wanted to go farther than that – I should be a mechanical engineer. And it stuck.” Figueroa credits Rice’s culture for encouraging him to pursue whichever paths he wanted. “People often refer to Rice as a bubble and I agree, but it’s also that persona of a bubble that makes Rice so great,” he said. “Diversity of thought, culture and religion is accepted. At Rice, you’re encouraged to take the first step down whichever path you choose.”
