Although Lyman quit production of this handy percussion shooters tool a few years back, a little bit of creativity has brought a new solution to the market. We demonstrate how with an aluminum soda can and some roll caps we can keep shooting through the component shortage of 2014. ********YouTube is blocking Nationalism and Americana content, if you like this video, cut and paste the address to others to get the word out.********* ---------The Ministry of Truth (YOUTUBE) HAVE LISTED THIS VIDEO AS INAPPROPRIATE and has blocked it by enabling age-based restrictions. - TO KEEP THIS CHANNEL ALIVE YOU MUST SHARE THE LINKS WITH LIKE MINDED GUN OWNERS/SHOOTERS/AMERICANS----------- ****BE ALERT, LOADING CAN BE DANGEROUS, WE CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ERRORS ON YOUR PART. Loading process for a muzzle loading cap lock percussion rifle using patched round balls. 45 caliber Thompson Center Hawken rifle made in 1976. The T/C Hawken uses No. 11 percussion caps. Other rifles may use other size caps from No. 10 size caps clear on up to musket caps and 209 shotgun primers. In this video a 0.440 lead round ball is used with a 0.010 lubed patch and 60 grains (by volume) of 3F black powder. That makes a good target load for this rifle. Larger caliber rifles from 50 caliber on up will probably do better with 2F black powder. We show making your own musket caps with a handheld punch. With a pack of roll caps from a big box store, a little bit of black powder and a few drops of hairspray you can be truly independent of market fluctuations forever! We preferred using heavy pie tins, the ones from Costco or Marie Callender's overs soda pop cans for this one. ****BE ALERT, LOADING CAN BE DANGEROUS, WE CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ERRORS ON YOUR PART. [UPDATE: Built a new and improved "vape lock" system, using kanthal resistance wire and a 3.7v INR cell battery to ignite the priming powder in the pan: https://youtu.be/sdGp6mRQE1w ] Continuation on my efforts to create an electric ignition system for blackpowder firearms that can be improvised from "household" materials, for application in survival/SHTF/TEOTWAWKI/or general ammo self-sufficiency. Finally created a firing prototype, with the new primer cap system where the steel wool igniter is incorporated into one-use primer caps (just like percussion caps). After a few duds with aluminum foil caps, I got two prototype caps (with copper wire prongs) to ignited the first time when the serpentine dropped. The video shows the second cap firing. As I predicted, the caps eject themselves out after ignition :). I notice there is about a half a second delay between contact and ignition with the second one. The first cap had less delay (probably because it was rammed with powder while 2nd cap was loose filled), but the system seems to be slower than contemporary flintlock or caplock. I'm thinking a better power source (apparently 9v cells are not good for this sort of thing) would get the filament to heat up faster. A 6v battery can provide more current, but it's bulky, so I might try to get my hands on a "vape" battery used for electronic cigarettes. I plan to incorporate this into a Chassepot-style breechloader (firing paper cartridges) I'm in the stages of designing. If I pull it off, I can be on my way to practical self-sufficiency for ammo! :D Special Thanks to Systemf32 for his Fireworks Igniter Tutorial - http://www.instructables.com/id/Fireworks-Igniter/

I am just returning from spending four months in Nigeria learning the method they use to produce their traditional black powder muskets. I was hosted by the wonderful Cultural Arts and Development Bridge (CADB) http://cadbridge.org and friends of that organization Adekunle Ogun and the family of Baba Kasali Akangbe Ogun, some of my new favorite folks in Nigeria. These firearms are hand forged by blacksmiths for local hunters and with the accouterments, lore and the homemade black powder that goes with them they are an exciting bit of Nigerian and West African cultural heritage. This is my first attempt at producing one solo, in the States they are classified as an antique style firearm and not "firearms" under the National Firearms Act and can therefore be legally produced by individuals without license.

A commonly overlooked option for preppers and survivalists. Black powder firearms are a great alternative to modern cartridge using pistols and rifles. With the proper professional training, equipment and facilities you can even make your own ammunition. What would you do if you ran out of ammunition for your conventional firearms? You'll never have to worry about that if you have a black powder pistol or rifle. Also, you'll never have to worry about the availability of ammunition, or reloading supplies...ammunition shortages won't worry you as much! Black powder firearms are not restricted to the same background checks, laws and regulations as conventional firearms...you can even order them via mail order and have them delivered right to your front door! Also, it gives the avid shooter a lesson in the development and history of firearms...and they're great fun to shoot as well. However I DO NOT advise anyone to attempt to make any explosive compounds! It is inherently extremely dangerous, and in certain areas may be illegal. Check Federal, state and local laws as to the legality before even thinking of attempting to do so. DO NOT BREAK ANY LAWS! DO NOT attempt to make any explosive compounds without proper professional training, equipment and facilities. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE ANY EXPLOSIVE MATERIALS! I HAVE A NEW CHANNEL, CHECK IT OUT! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7Xcb9Gg6shp674MciiDmkw I built this pistol a year or two ago and its one of my favorite creations. It is a percussion cap pistol, able to work with cap gun caps or homemade ones, and the powder charge is armstrong mix. The pistol fires any ball or slug of .177 caliber but I mostly shoot .177 caliber copper BBs. Not sure how powerful this thing is, not sure of the FPS (I don't have a chronograph), but it is VERY loud, and kicks a surprising amount for such a small gun. I am always careful with it, i store it in a safe, and ALWAYS wear eye and ear protection when firing it, like any other firearm. It is cap and ball and thus does not legally require registration. I do not hunt with it, carry it, or travel with it, it is purely a DIY project for safe fun and pyrotechnic experimentation. I claim no responsibility if anybody tries to replicate this and is hurt, hurts someone or something else, or damages anything. I strongly discourage anyone from building firearms of any kind without supervision of a trained gunsmith. Thanks for watching!

These single-shot blackpowder muzzleloaders were made between 1845 and 1852. It's a 54 cal smoothbore cap lock pistol, and still functional. Since it's not a rare model, nor in exceptional condition, I decided to give it a try, after taking it to a gunsmith to ensure that it's safe to shoot. There is a special charm about antiques, and black powder guns are a lot fun. Can't say anything about the accuracy yet, I'll have to test that next time, hopefully in better weather. Then the pace picks up a little with some faster gallery-style shooting at 10:30. This a cap and ball revolving rifle, and is loaded with black powder, lead round balls, and percussion caps. I wear a bandana when shooting it, as it does spray some burning powder and cap bits back toward my face. Fortunately, the lead goes the other way.

Please support us at: https://www.patreon.com/capandball I had a chance to film a very special hunt in Hungary. If you followed my channel you may know that blackpowder hunting started in Hunagry last year. This year we made a huge step forward. We received the permission to hunt on open grounds on the best fallow deer areas of Hungary in Gyulaj. Here is the tale of the first trophy game taken in Hungary. The rifle is my orignal .58 caliber muzzleloader you may also know from previous films. Please support us at: https://www.patreon.com/capandball Presentation and range report of the Pedersoli 12 ga Classic Double Shotgun. I think you will like this. I am basically not a clay target shooter, but as a hunter I find the blackpowder shotguns interesting. We had a little competetition a few weeks ago with my friends, and it turned out an excellent day of shooting.
