They contain hormones that suppress ovulation. The most effective type is the combination pill which contains both estrogen and progestin - a synthetic form of progesterone. These 2 hormones interfere with the normal menstrual cycle to prevent ovulation. The menstrual cycle refers to the monthly events that occur within a woman’s body in preparation for the possibility of pregnancy. Each month, an egg is released from an ovary in a process called ovulation. At the same time, the lining of the uterus thickens, ready for pregnancy. If fertilization does not take place, the lining of the uterus is shed in menstrual bleeding and the cycle starts over. The menstrual cycle is under control of multiple hormones secreted by the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and ovaries. Basically, the hypothalamus produces gonadotropin-releasing hormone, GnRH; the pituitary secretes follicle-stimulating hormone, FSH, and luteinizing hormone, LH; while the ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone. These hormones are involved in a REGULATORY network that results in monthly cyclic changes responsible for ovulation and preparation for pregnancy. The 2 hormones that are required for ovulation are: FSH, which starts the cycle by stimulating immature follicles to grow and produce a mature egg; and LH, which is responsible for the release of the egg from the ovary - the ovulation event itself. Two other hormones, estrogen and progesterone, are at high levels after ovulation, in the second half of the cycle. They suppress FSH and LH during this time, preventing the ovaries from releasing more eggs. If fertilization occurs, estrogen and progesterone levels REMAIN HIGH throughout pregnancy, providing a continuous suppression of ovulation. On the other hand, in the absence of pregnancy, their levels FALL, causing menstrual bleeding. The levels of estrogen and progesterone in the combination pills mimic the hormonal state after ovulation, tricking the ovaries into thinking that ovulation has already occurred; FSH and LH are constantly suppressed, no egg is matured or released. The pills are taken every day for three weeks, followed by one week of placebo pills containing no hormones. During the week of placebos, estrogen and progesterone levels fall, triggering a so-called withdrawal bleeding, or fake periods. The bleeding serves as a convenient indication that fertilization did not happen, but it is not required for birth control. In fact, there exist continuous-use contraceptive pills with less or no placebos, resulting in less or no menstrual periods. These pills are particularly beneficial for women who suffer from menstrual disorders such as excessive menstrual bleeding, painful menstruation and endometriosis. For lactating women, or those who cannot tolerate estrogen, there are mini-pills that contain only progestin. These are not as effective as combination pills at preventing ovulation. Their effect relies more on the ability of progestin to promote secretion of a thick cervical mucus to obstruct sperm entry.

Estrogen vs Progesterone Hormonal Dominance: Control Low Hormones Symptoms
http://getleantoday.com - Dr. Raj Banerjee shares the key differences between estrogen and progesterone. Steroids are a group of hormones that regulate body functions – and they are all derived from cholesterol. Or fat. That’s right, fat. Estrogen, which is usually the focus of HRT, is actually a generic term for three different forms of hormone called Estriol, Estrodiol and Estrone - Estrodiol being the most potent. Estrogen is called the female sex hormone because it regulates the menstrual cycle and causes thing to grow during puberty – Dr Raj likes estrogen because it creates curves and it also stimulates cell growth in preparation for pregnancy. Estrogen is a growth hormone. It has received a lot of bad press because people have been taking too much estrogen in the form of synthetic hormone for a long period of time. And any hormone you take in excess is going to cause problems. And a growth hormone like estrogen if you take too much of it. You are going to get excessive cell growth which is another term for what we call cancer. So its understandable, estrogen is not good or bad, but if you take too much estrogen its going to cause problems. Progesterone is the pro gestational hormone. It’s the hormone that keeps the uterine lining intact if you get pregnant. And its depleted when you are under stress. So the typical reaction is high stress, high cortisol levels when you are under stress and the depletion of the progesterone. Its pretty amazing what progestronine helps with. It helps protect from many of the negative effects of extra estrogen. It helps women sleep. It gives them better sex drive, better energy levels, makes your skin look better. It’s a wonderful hormone. If we compare them side-by-side, you’ll see that they counterbalance each other in many ways. There’s an ideal ratio between these two hormones. Estrogen given in too large of a dose can cause depression, headaches, it increases the risk of blood clotting and stroke. It causes the loss of many nutrients such as zink and copper. It interferes with oxygen levels. Again that in a person that is getting excessive estrogen which has basically been the history of menopausal treatment. Dr Raj wants to leave you with an important point to free yourself from chronic fatigue and pain and depression and overweight. Ovarian hormones do not spontaneously malfunction by themselves. The female hormones do not all of a sudden malfunction by themselves. They are responding to stress as a stress hormone called cortisol. Every molecule of cortisol that you produce comes from progesterone. When you are under stress guess what happens? Your cortisol goes up and your progesterone drops. Dr Raj wants to test your cortisol and fix it. And he wants to test your female hormone and fix your whole hormonal system at the same time and make all your symptoms go away. That will help eliminate depression and fatigue. Night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings etc. and it will improve your metabolism so you will able to start losing weight. Hormonal Birth Control, Pills
To pill or not to pill? That is the question. Hormonal Birth Control Pills Hormonal or chemical birth control pills will be explained in this video, with the pros and cons of each type. But before I demonstrate the different types, I would like to explain to you how hormonal birth control pills work. When a lady is pregnant, ovulation (or egg release) does not occur. That’s how our body’s system normally works. The hormones in a woman’s body are balanced in a certain way that makes the hormones that stimulate the release of the eggs – called the ovulation hormones – to become inactive during pregnancy. So we thought: If we give the woman pregnancy hormones in pills, we will be able to inhibit ovulation, in other words: to stop it from happening, which, in turn, would prevent the pregnancy to occur. So the scientists decided to put the pregnancy hormone and the female hormone in a pill. This gives us an idea about the first type of birth control pills. This type consists of synthet-ic forms of hormones – the pregnancy hormone progesterone (called progestin) and the female hormone oestrogen. On the other hand there’s another type of birth control pills that consists of the pregnancy hormone only, and in a very small amount. It is called the mini Pill or the Progesterone-Only Pill (P.O.P.). The pills I will talk about are not the only hormonal birth control methods. We can take other forms of chemical or birth control at the doctor’s office, which would have the same mechanism of action. So, back to the pills. Let me explain them now. Let’s start with a combined pill. “Combined” because it has a combination of hormones. Let’s know more about it. The combined pill consists of progestin – a synthetic progester-one (the pregnancy hormone) – and oestrogen (the female hormone). You will need to take a pill daily for 21 days, starting from the 7th day of your menstruation. Even if you’re still bleeding, you must start using the pill. Take a pill daily for 21 days and stop the pill for 7 days, taking into consideration that your period cycle is 28 days. The combined pill is a good birth control choice in cases of: • You don’t mind to take hormones for birth control • You usually suffer from pains [I’m not sure about what comes here → 2:40] during menstruating, since it will ease the dysmenorrhea. • If your period is not regular, this will regulate it. • You bleed heavily during the period: it will decrease the amount of bleeding, which in turn might prevent you from becoming anaemic. • If you have acne: this might improve your skin condition. • You’re not a smoker The combined pills are not good if you … don’t wish to take any hormones … are Breastfeeding … are a heart patient … have hypertension or high blood pressure … have risk of thrombosis or atherosclerosis … have had diabetes for more than 20 years … have a liver or gall bladder disease … have a history of breast cancer in the past 5 years … are suffering from recurrent migraines or have the symptoms that proceed mi-graine, called the aura … are overweight … have been taking medications such as antibiotics, epilepsy medications or anti-depressants All these may weaken the effect of the combined pill. Always read the patient in-formation leaflets. This birth control method is 99% effective, on condition that the pill is taken on the same time every day. The other type is the mini Pill or the pill that... If you are on infertility treatment, then it is important to support the pregnancy or the time when you will be pregnant with progesterone tablets, that is in the 2nd half of the cycle, after you ovulate, many at times, you are put on progesterone tablets, so that in case you become pregnant, your pregnancy will be supported. In some caused, when you will have to delay your periods because of some s social function’s or travelling, then the idea is to continue with those progesterone tablets till you are done with your functions or travelling and then you can stop, because in case tour not pregnancy, the moment you stop your progesterone tablets, your periods will come or they will come in a week’s time. So if you stop it and then you want to delay it, then it is going to be messy. You cannot play with your hormones. So these has to be discussed with a doctor rather than stopping and then start some medicines to delay your periods which might not be possible.

Is Pregnancy possible with usage of regular mini pill? - Dr. Sangeeta Gomes
"Pregestational pill or mini pill, it contains very low dose of pregestational, it has to be taken daily from the first day of the cycle, mechanism of action is by making the cervical mucus thick and viscous thereby preventing from sperm penetration. Endometrium becomes thin and atrophic preventing the fertilized egg from implantation. Now how to take this mini pill, it has to be started on the first day of the cycle and had has to be taken on the same time every day, if there is delay of more than 3 hours then the missed pill along with the regular pill as per the schedule should be taken, extra precautions should be taken for the next 2 days to prevent pregnancy. The advantages or it is useful in lactating mothers hence it is also known as locational pill. The advantages is it can be prescribed in patients with medical disorders like hypertension, diabetes with uterine fibroid, with the history of epilepsy, smoking, crambo embolic history and there is no headache of on and off Regiment. The disadvantages are you can have acne, breast pain, breakthrough bleeding which occurs in 20 to 30% of the women. If the women is regular on taking pill as prescribed by the doctor the failure rate is very low that is 0.5 for 100 women years. "
Signs You Are Pregnant While on Birth Control
What are the signs you are pregnant while on birth control? You hit that row of do nothing pills in the birth control pack and your period does not come. It could come late for other reasons like hormones out of whack. And it was concern that my hormones would be messed up that I did not use them. Then I cannot say that you got pregnant on the pill because you used antibiotics. Antibiotics can make you poop a lot, passing the pills through faster. If you were taking thyroid medication, it would metabolize them faster. However, if you get a stomach bug and throw them up, you could get pregnant. If I’m throwing up a lot, that’s a sign I am pregnant on birth control. If you are nauseous or throwing up in the morning but not in the afternoon or evening, then it is likely due to pregnancy. If it is all day, then you may need antibiotics or another medication. I have not been taking antibiotics. If you were on the pill, you’d be able to guess you were pregnant if you had a light period the next cycle and none the one after that. With a birth control implant, though, a woman would not have a period at all. Well, most of the time. You could develop breast tenderness in early pregnancy. I get that with my normal cycle. Peeing a lot is a sign of pregnancy. Or a urinary tract infection. If you used an injected contraceptive, your odds of pregnancy are really low barring medication that interferes with it. I do not use the injectables. What are the other signs I could be pregnant while on birth control? If you used an intrauterine, it causes heavier than normal periods. If you’re pregnant, the period stops. That’s usually normal regardless of the contraception method. You could be certain you did a pregnancy test and it came back positive. Don’t birth control methods interfere with that? If you used a condom, cervical cap or even an intrauterine, you’d have the normal hormonal cycles for ovulation and pregnancy. It is only the hormone based pills and shots that throw off your hormones. And it may be that my contraceptive method failed. If you were taking birth control pills, the estrogen or progesterone won’t throw off the pregnancy test. In fact, no medicine you take for anything would mess it up. So a pregnancy test is the best way to see if I’m pregnant. And it would be a sure sign to talk to your doctor about the best way to stop your birth control, since you clearly won’t need it for a while.

how to birth control pill work in hindi | how to pill worked |
Hello friends Welcome to the Ayurveda for You channel. Friends, we will talk about how anti-glucose pills work and how do preventing unnecessary pregnancy? So let's start.       Prevention of oral contraceptive pills for the prevention of unnecessary pregnancy is the most preferred option. It is also called OCP. The question of most women is how do these tablets work? What happens in the body by eating pills? How does it prevent pregnancy? How do OCP work? OCP is of two types Combined OCP, which contains both estrogen and progesterone. Progesterone tablets, also known as mini-pill, are only progesterone. It depends on the type of OCP. When you take a Combined tablet, both hormones are working on estrogens and progesterone and if you only take progesterone, then only one hormone is worked.   Progesterone: The hormone progesterone works at three different levels. First, it prevents the ovulation, which means that no eggs are released. The result is that fertilization does not happen and therefore, pregnancy is stopped. Second, it condenses the cervical mucus, so that sperm can not go into the uterus. Obviously, if you are fat, sperm can not take your way to the egg. Since it fails to reach the egg, thereby affecting the possibility of fertilization, which prevents pregnancy. Third, it works at the endometrium level. As the endometrium layer is thin, it makes it difficult for implantation. Therefore, even if the egg is fertilized, the fetus fails to adhere to endometrium, thereby hindering pregnancy prospects.   Estrogen-Combined Pills contains high amounts of estrogen hormones. When estrogen levels are high in the body, then it suppresses the hormone FSH (Folic Stimulating Hormone), which prevents pregnancy. FSH plays an important role in hormone ovulation and therefore, low levels of FSH prevents ovulation and thus, the probability of pregnancy is less.

Hormones Involved in Birth Control & Fertility Treatment | Biology for All | FuseSchool
In this video we are going to look at how these hormones can be used in contraception and compare them to non-hormonal methods. We are also going to look at the use of hormones in treating infertility. Female fertility is controlled by hormones, this means that knowledge of these hormones can be used to increase (fertility treatment) or decrease (contraception) the chances of fertilisation and pregnancy. FSH causes the egg to mature in the ovary, so if we can stop the production of FSH happening then we can prevent pregnancy happening. And we already know that oestrogen prevents the production of FSH, so contraceptive pills just need to contain oestrogen. Progesterone also can act as a contraceptive; it makes the mucus in the uterus very thick and so sperm cannot get through to the egg to fertilise it. Pills are either oestrogen only, combined oestrogen and progesterone or nowadays there is a mini-pill which is progesterone only. Early contraceptive pills contained much higher amounts of oestrogen. This caused quite significant side effects, such as weight gain, mood and blood pressure. More modern pills contain much less oestrogen, and some are even just progesterone. Progesterone is a lot more gentle on the body; oestrogen pills make the body think it is in a permanent state of pregnancy. Oral contraceptives are great in many ways. They give people the freedom to choose when to have a child, and when to not have children. But as mentioned above, even the more modern versions can cause side effects in people. There is also an increased risk of developing blood clots. So they are not perfect, and so people do seek out other methods of contraception instead. Inter-uterine devices (IUDs) or coils are another contraceptive option. They must be fitted by a doctor, and have spermicidal properties and prevent implantation. Or there are also contraceptive implants which work by releasing progesterone into the body and last for 3 years. Whereas the contraceptive injections also make use of progesterone, but they only last for between 8 and 13 weeks. Non-hormonal methods of contraception include condoms and other barrier methods which stop the sperm from reaching the ovum. How effective these methods of contraception are depends on whether you use it correctly. The IUDs and implants are great because they do not have human error; you cannot forget to take it or put it on. If taken correctly, the contraceptive pill is over 99% effective. But you need to take it at a similar time each day, and remember to take it daily. Other than condoms and barrier methods, all forms of contraceptives come with differing side effects and girls should consider the different options when deciding which one suits them best. So that is how we use our knowledge of hormones to prevent pregnancy. But what about helping women conceive? Some women don’t produce enough FSH to allow their eggs to mature, and so have difficulty becoming pregnant. Fertility drugs contain FSH and also LH, which stimulate the eggs to mature in the ovary. Remember that LH causes the mature egg to be released from the ovary. Because fertility drugs contain FSH and LH, this can cause multiple eggs to be released and so increases the chances of multiple conceptions; twins or even triplets. Fertility treatments do increase a woman’s chances of becoming pregnant, but it is not 100% assured and there can be other factors to consider. Why Do I Ovulate on Day 21?
Why do I ovulate on Day 21? The average menstrual cycle is 28 to 32 days, but it is anything from 21 to 42 days. That may just be normal for you. I worry that I’m ovulating so late that I cannot get pregnant. If you ovulate on day 21 and have your period start on day 25, then yes, there is not enough time for the egg to get from the fallopian tube to the lining and implant, and put out the chemical signals to say hey, do not shed me. My period starts around day 28 and takes a couple days. Then that is still a close call, though I do not know if it is enough time. That’s something to discuss with the doctor. I’ve heard that it is normal to ovulate around day 14, so I’m a week late. You may need progesterone to get the uterine lining to build up faster so you can ovulate sooner. Or there may be some other problem. True. The ovulation may be late because of thyroid problems or half a dozen other things. And you’re going to tell me to talk to the doctor. If you have progesterone problems, one of the first things a doctor tries is birth control. I’m trying to get pregnant, so I fail to see how birth control will actually help. Birth control contains certain hormones. The doctor may give it to you to get your cycle in alignment with what he’d consider normal or add progesterone to the system at mild levels. I’d prefer pills over shots. You may even take two weeks of the progesterone and then stop them instead of the full three weeks of birth control, hopefully building up the uterine lining without making it shed if you’ve conceived. I suppose that’s why missing pills in that time frame is why you could get pregnant while on them. Why else might I ovulate that late? If you had high stress levels, you might be ovulating late due to stress or malnutrition just that one cycle. With the modern diet, malnutrition is not a problem. With the modern diet, many modern people are short on calcium, iron and other micro-nutrients. Then again, if you work out to an excess, you may be short-circuiting the ovaries and delaying ovulation even with a perfect diet. So what’s the solution? Moderation in everything, see if the ovulation moderates too, and see the doctor if it does not.

All rights reserved. Understanding the menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle is a term used to describe monthly events that occur within a woman's body in preparation for the possibility of pregnancy. Each month, an egg is released from an ovary in a process called ovulation. At the same time, the lining of the uterus thickens, ready for pregnancy. If fertilization does not take place, the lining of the uterus is shed in menstrual bleeding and the cycle starts over. An ovary contains hundreds of thousands of primary oocytes - immature eggs, or ova. Each of these is enclosed in a structure called a follicle, and at this stage -- a primordial follicle. The menstrual cycle is under control of hormones secreted by the pituitary gland and the ovaries. The pituitary itself is under control of the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus produces a hormone called the gonadotropin-releasing hormone or GnRH. GnRH stimulates the anterior lobe of the pituitary to secrete follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). FSH travels in the bloodstream to the ovaries and stimulates a group of follicles to grow. These primordial follicles develop into primary follicles and then secondary follicles. These produce a hormone named estrogen which acts to stimulate the growth of the endometrium -- the inner lining of the uterus. The secondary follicles compete with each other and only one of them will survive and become a mature follicle, the rest atrophy and die. The increasing level of estrogen also acts on the hypothalamus and the anterior pituitary to increase the level of GnRH and induce the production of another hormone -- luteinizing hormone (LH). A surge in LH secretion triggers ovulation - the release of the egg from the follicle and the ovary. The egg is then swept up by the fimbriae (FIM-bree-ee) and taken into the uterine tube. Fertilization by a spermatozoon, when it occurs, usually takes place in the ampulla, the widest section of the fallopian tube. The fertilized egg immediately begins the process of development while travelling toward the uterus. After 6 days it becomes a blastocyst and is implanted into the endometrium of the uterus. Meanwhile, the left-over of the ruptured follicle has become a corpus luteum which secretes progesterone. Progesterone further stimulates uterine development making it a nutritious bed for the embryo in the event of pregnancy. In the absence of pregnancy, the corpus luteum atrophies and progesterone level falls. This leads to the breakdown of the endometrium, menstruation begins and the cycle starts over. 8 Signs That You Have Too Much Estrogen
► 8 Signs That You Have Too Much Estrogen In many cases, having too much of something in your body is bound to cause some sort of issue. Take estrogen for example: according to WebMD, too much estrogen can cause weight gain. In fact, they also add that many overweight women tend to have high estrogen levels. For those who may not be familiar with what estrogen is, it’s an entire class of related hormones which includes estradiol, estriol and estrone, according to WebMD. Estrogen levels tend to rise at certain times. The main time is during puberty, which is when a girl’s body is beginning to change. Another reason estrogen may rise is because of weight gain, which coincidently, is one of the symptoms of high estrogen levels. Below you will find the signs that you have too much estrogen. Abdominal Weight Gain: According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, the fat tissue produces excess estrogen, mainly in the abdominal area, which can cause abdominal weight gain. As the fatty tissue produces estrogen, estrogen produces more fatty tissue, and if you have too much estrogen, this will cause weight gain in the area that has too much of it. Swollen or Tender Breasts: When you are pregnant, estrogen causes the breast ducts to enlarge. Also, progesterone, which is produced mainly in the ovaries following ovulation each month, can cause the breasts to feel sore, according to Healthline. They add that if you notice that your breasts are sore or swollen and you are not ovulating or pregnant, it could be a cause of too much estrogen. Thyroid Dysfunction: According to Outsmart Disease, many women who are in their 30’s will experience symptoms that are attributed to conditions such as thyroid disease because of too much estrogen. This occurs because when there is too much estrogen, the thyroid binding protein called thyroid binding globulin increases. When this occurs, the T4 and T3 thyroid hormones become low because they become attached to the thyroid globulin. This will prevent the thyroid hormones from entering the cells and can result in hyperthyroid symptoms. Irregular Periods: According to the Women’s Health Network, when a woman has an irregular period, which is when it comes too early or too late, she could experience weight gain, which is a sign of a hormonal imbalance which can also be caused by too much estrogen. As I mentioned earlier, fat tissues make estrogen; so the more you have, the more estrogen production. Fibrocystic Breasts: A woman’s breast changes occur in response to the hormones that are made by the ovaries. If a woman has fibrocystic breasts, it could be caused by high estrogen and low progesterone levels, according to Healthline. Women will experience breast tissue changes; they will become lumpy and rope-like. They will also be painful and tender to touch. Mood Swings: A hormonal imbalance can cause mood swings; which in this case would be too much estrogen. This occurs because it affects the chemistry of the brain, according to Healthline. Women who are pregnant or going through menopause can experience mood swings. Memory Problems: As I mentioned earlier, one of the signs of high estrogen is thyroid issues, which can result in hyperthyroidism. According to Healthline, hyperthyroidism can cause memory issues. This occurs because the body is unable to produce the hormone that is essential for energy metabolism. Headache: It is very common for women to experience headaches that are linked to hormonal fluctuations, according to Healthline. Pregnancy, birth control pills, and menstruation all have the ability to affect your estrogen levels, which can result in headaches if they are too high or too low. ★ Please leave a like if you enjoyed and tell me what you think in the comments! ★ Don't forget to subscribe my channel to help us reach to 100.000 Subscribers : https://goo.gl/29sHF2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ★ VIEW MORE: ➞ Tips & Tricks: https://goo.gl/UdhRLs ➞ Natural Remedies: https://goo.gl/djrthu ➞ Diet & Weight Loss: https://goo.gl/7sEJCX ➞ Beauty Tips: https://goo.gl/E3nsCd ➞ Healthy Drinks: https://goo.gl/BSGh2E --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ★ Like our facebook page: https://goo.gl/tVNSqu --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ★ Videos can use content-based copyright law contains reasonable use Fair Use (https://www.youtube.com/yt/copyright/)

How to Prevent Nausea from Birth Control Pills
How to Prevent Nausea from Birth Control Pills Nausea and birth control pills Since the introduction of the first birth control pill in 1960, women have come to rely on the pill as an effective way to prevent pregnancy. More than 25 percent of women who use birth control today are on the pill. The birth control pill is more than 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy when it’s taken correctly. Like any drug, it can cause side effects. Nausea is one of the most commonly reported side effects of birth control pills. Why does the pill cause nausea? The queasiness is the result of estrogen, which can irritate the stomach. Pills that contain a high dose of estrogen, especially emergency contraceptive pills, are more likely to cause stomach upset than pills that have a lower dose of this hormone. Nausea is more common when you first start taking the pill. How to treat nausea when you’re on the pill There is no specific treatment for nausea caused by the pill. However, you may find relief from mild bouts of nausea with these home remedies: Consume only light, plain foods, such as bread and crackers. Avoid any foods that have strong flavors, are very sweet, or are greasy or fried. Drink cold liquids. Avoid any activity after eating. Drink a cup of ginger tea. Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Take a series of deep, controlled breaths. Applying pressure to certain points on the wrist has also been found to relieve mild nausea. This traditional Chinese remedy is called acupressure. Nausea caused by the pill should resolve within a few days. If the nausea persists, make an appointment to see your doctor. Nausea that doesn’t let up can have an effect on your appetite and weight. You may need to switch to another type of pill or a different form of birth control. How to prevent nausea when you’re on the pill To prevent nausea, don’t take your birth control pill on an empty stomach. Instead, take it after dinner or with a snack before bed. You can also take an antacid medicine about 30 minutes before taking the pill. This may help keep your stomach calm. Before using the emergency birth control pill, speak with your doctor to see if an anti-nausea medication can also be used. They may give you a prescription for an anti-nausea medicine, especially if this pill has made you feel sick in the past. Progestin-only emergency pills are less likely to cause nausea and vomiting than pills containing both estrogen and progestin. Don’t stop taking the birth control pill just because you have nausea. You could get pregnant if you aren’t using another birth control method as a backup. How do birth control pills work? Birth control pills contain man-made forms of the female hormones estrogen and progestin or progestin only. These hormones prevent pregnancy by stopping the release of a mature egg from a woman’s ovaries (ovulation). Birth control pills also thicken mucus around the cervix. This makes it harder for the sperm to swim to the egg and fertilize it. The pill also changes the lining of the uterus. If an egg is fertilized, the altered uterine lining will make it more difficult for the egg to implant and grow. Emergency contraceptive pills such as Plan B contain a higher dose of the hormones found in the regular pill. This high dose of hormones can be hard on your body. Therefore, you should only take emergency contraceptives if you didn’t use contraception during sex or you experienced birth control failure. Examples of birth control failure are a condom that broke or an intrauterine device (IUD) that fell out during sex. Emergency contraceptives can stop ovulation and prevent an egg from leaving the ovary. These pills can also prevent sperm from fertilizing the egg. Other side effects of the birth control pill In addition to nausea, the most common side effects caused by the pill include: breast soreness, tenderness, or enlargement headaches moodiness reduced sex drive spotting in between periods, or irregular periods weight gain or loss Most of these side effects are mild. They usually go away within a few months after you start taking the pill. One rare but serious side effect of birth control use is a blood clot in the leg (deep vein thrombosis), which if untreated can lead to a blood clot in your lungs (pulmonary embolism) and possibly death. This risk is rare. However, your risk is increased if you have used the pill for a long time, you smoke, or you are older 35 years. Choosing a birth control pill that’s right for you When choosing a birth control pill, you need to strike a balance. You want enough estrogen to prevent pregnancy but not so much that it makes you sick to your stomach. Your doctor can help you find a birth control pill that suits your needs. While you’re taking the pill, follow the directions carefully. Take your pill every day. If you skip a dose, you’ll need to take the missed dose as soon as possible.

Can contraceptive injections affect chances of conception in future? - Dr. Shefali Tyagi
Contraceptive injections are another method of contraception in which the progesterone is given as injection and it works for either 8 or 12 week. The side effects of such injections can be that the periods can become irregular. Sometimes you even stop having your periods. There can be weight gain. There can be effect on your bone. That means the bone can become slightly weaker. There can be breast tenderness, mood swings. So these are the common side effects. Now if you can start conceiving after stopping the injections, the answer would be that if you are planning pregnancy, don’t go for those injections as periods can become very irregular. Sometimes the cycles get back to their normal regular rhythmic flow upto a year after stopping the injections. So if you are planning another baby, then probably the injectable contraceptives will not be the best choice for you. You can either go for Copper T or contraceptive pills because in that case, the fertility is not affected so much. So it might take a little while to become pregnant after stopping these injectable contraceptives.

It is progesterone only and is usually administered by a doctor or a nurse practitioner. The injection is usually given into your arm or in your buttock once every 12 weeks. While this is an excellent and highly effective form of birth control, it does have some side effects. Some of the most common side effects include breakthrough bleeding, headaches, and over a relatively short period of time, you may stop getting your periods altogether. These side effects are completely normal. Now, the headaches and the breakthrough bleeding will usually get better with time. However, if you stop getting your periods with this birth control option, it's possible that your periods may not return until after you stop using this form of contraception. Please don't be worried. While patients are concerned when they don't see their periods, so long as they're using the birth control option correctly, this is perfectly safe. One of the concerns about using the birth control injection, or the birth control shot, is the return to fertility. In other words, if you use this birth control option and you decide that you want to get pregnant, it can take up to a year for your periods to return and for you to start ovulating in order for you to get pregnant. So if you're thinking in the next year or two that you would like to consider pregnancy, you probably should consider a different, more easily reversible form of birth control. Another concern about this form of birth control is the risk associated with bone loss. Now, the risk of bone loss is relatively low over the first year. But if you continue this form of birth control for two or more years, you may want to consider changing your options in order to reduce this risk from occurring. Again, I highly recommend that you talk to your nurse practitioner or your physician about whether this is a good birth control option for you. Despite the side effects, this may be the birth control option for you. And while you're concerned about the side effect profile, it's probably better to use this than to use nothing at all.

Exercise for Hormone Balance | Progesterone Balancing Solutions
In the exercise for hormone balance scheme of things you are not a textbook exercise prescription. Progesterone is a trick to figure out sometimes. The signs can be similar to adrenal fatigue, premenstrual syndrome, or just the chronic fatigue you’ve learned to tolerate. This episode I dive into exercise for hormone balance and how it relates to progesterone. What it is and what it does: Anti-inflammaty hormone Calming, soothing effect Raises serotonin levels in the brain Helps cope with depression and insomnia Poor progesterone could be the forgotten hormone. Estrogen and testosterone and cortisol steal the attention. Because of that, this may be news to you. During menopause low progesterone levels can occur. Estrogen dominance occurs when progesterone is low – since these two need to be on a balanced relationship. Symptoms of low progesterone: Tiredness Irritation Anxiety Weight gain Bloating Depression Headaches Body not functioning well, more seriously, cancer Spotting before your period should start. That can be caused by other things so you may want to check with a physician about the reason.  Therapeutic solutions: Progesterone therapy, pills or oil compounds Taking your temperature daily can help if you’re still ovulating. Progesterone rises after ovulation, and stays up until your next period (about 11-14 days). If your temperature doesn’t rise or stay up (a short phase), then you could have a progesterone deficiency. In You Still Got It, Girl and the After 50 Fitness Formula for Women course you will chart your temperature (along with half a dozen other measures) for 30 days to check hormone fluctuations and thyroid function. You can test using progesterone strips. Reasons for low progesterone: High estrogen Lack of physical activity and unhealthy nutrition Insulin resistance Chronic stress Medications - hormone therapies and steroids, oral contraceptives, and some other medications block production of progesterone. Age – between 35 and 50 estrogen levels drop by 35 percent but progesterone levels plummet by as much as 75 percent. Estrogen dominance can cause: Stomach pains Hot flashes Mood swings Weight gain  Progesterone oils can be massaged into the skin, injected into muscle, or taken in pill form. Like most things, more is not better. Work with a doctor if you’re at the point lifestyle modifications haven’t helped to you have medical supervision. Natural progesterone boosts Eat more foods with zinc, selenium (brazil nuts), magnesium (details below) Herbal remedies Vitamin supplements – especially B and C Rest to deal with stress - focus on yoga, restorative exercise to replace all or most of your high intensity training. Shorter and fewer bouts of HIIT and short but effective weight training along with nurturing walks, restorative yoga, and rest is best. No foods contain progesterone but you can eat foods that help your body increase progesterone levels. Eat foods that help reduce excess estrogen. Reduce your stress levels and you naturally increase progesterone. Body fat produces excess estrogen, so losing fat is a focus, but avoiding high stress means of doing it is key. Potentially, the intuitive option of cutting calories, trying to exercise more may contribute to worsening symptoms as you increase cortisol and chronic stress on your body. It’s a collective measure of your mental, physical, and emotional stress that matters. What I find works well for women who love to exercise is having a plan. When you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, or putting on belly fat and bloating, it is easier to accept that what you’re doing isn’t working. Surrender to a plan that supports you feeling better – filling that hole that’s been dug – so you can get your energy back by balancing your hormones. Be sure your diet is rich in foods containing these micronutrients: Magnesium: dark leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, fish (mackerel), brown rice, dark chocolate Vitamin C: kiwi, dark green leafy veggies, yellow peppers, broccoli B6: sunflower seeds, pistachio nuts, fish, turkey Zinc: cooked oysters, lean beef, pumpkin seeds, cashews L-Arginine: turkey, chicken, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas Vitamin E: almonds, sunflower seeds, shrimp, olive oil Other things to consider: The herb Chasteberry: Avoid if you’re taking hormonal birth control or trying to get pregnant Progesterone cream: natural with no plant estrogens, Mexican yam cream or wild yam, and look for something enriched with vitamin E Foods that increase estrogen dominance: (avoid these) Sugars Sweeteners Preservatives Artificial colorings Plastics – including bottled water, plastic wrap on food, never microwave food in them or leave water bottles in the car exposed to sunlight and redrink, Just sitting for a long time plastics start to break down and the chemicals leech into...

Why Do I Ovulate on Day 19?
Why do I ovulate on Day 19? The average woman’s menstrual cycle is 28 to 33 days. Ovulation is usually in the middle of that around day 14 but can be anywhere from day 11 to day 21. So day 19 is toward the outer edge of that acceptable time window. If you have a longer cycle, you’ll ovulate around day 18 or 19 and still be around normal. I wonder if day 19 is too late. Your hormone lining starts to shed around days 25 to 28, or if your cycle is longer, days 30 to 35. At day 19, you’ll implant around day 23 to 28. I’d hate to think I may be failing to conceive because the ovulation is too late. The embryo puts off massive chemical signals when it implants to prevent that, assuming you conceive. The average implantation around day 23 to 24 when the period is a few days after. If I’m late, it may be too late. You should talk to your doctor about perhaps starting birth control to get your luteal phase and ovulation cycle shorter. Or you need progesterone to speed up the cycle so that the egg implants sooner. I cannot speed up the conveyor in the fallopian tubes. The doctor may give you something to encourage earlier ovulation and a shift in the luteal phase. I’ve heard of it. That stimulates the ovaries. Then again, you may simply need to have sex often enough to ensure that you’re covered no matter when the egg is available to be fertilized and implant. Can you get pregnant naturally with that sort of condition? If you have a naturally longer menstrual cycle like a 30 to 35 day one, absolutely, because you’re just longer than average and have plenty of time as long as you’re shooting sperm at the egg. My cycle is closer to 30 than 35 days. Then you may be cutting the corners too close, chemically speaking, and the doctor needs to give you something to get the cycles in sync. So you think the later ovulation is a chemical imbalance. Your ovaries may be triggering ovulation a little too late in the cycle to implant in the lining before the period starts. Maybe I need progesterone to shift the luteal cycle. That’s for an OBGYN to say. Or an endocrinologist, if your thyroid functions or dysfunctions are throwing off your ovaries.

Coming off the Pill: the First Month
If you have stopped taking birth control, or are considering doing so, feel free to share your experiences in the comments! Wherein I intermittently vlog my first month off birth control. I took the combined contraceptive pill (containing estrogen and progestin) for about 4 years and decided to come off it mainly because I had a suspicion that it was affecting my mental health. I consulted my gynecologist before discontinuing the pill and she completely supported me in my decision, which was honestly the push I needed to finally do it. I think we don't talk enough about the side effects the pill (or coming off it) can have, despite the fact that many women take the pill/come off the pill at some point in their life. If you feel like you're experiencing side-effects that are affecting your quality of life from the pill, I urge you to talk to your gynecologist to find an alternative form of contraception/a different pill that might work better for you. I tried out two different pills before finding the one that worked for me. If at all possible, try and find a gynecologist who takes all of your concerns seriously! You're not delusional/overly sensitive if you think the pill (or any other form of contraception) is having an undesirable effect on your body/mind. This comes from someone who has not been taken seriously by doctors when I voiced these concerns, so I know it can be frustrating. I luckily now have a doctor that I feel very comfortable with. Anyway, if you're considering going off the pill, please remember to use an alternative form of contraception (duh)! BIRTH CONTROL (CONTRACEPTION) OVERVIEW Birth control is a way for men and women to prevent pregnancy. There are many different methods of birth control, including hormonal contraception such as "the pill." Women take the pill by mouth to prevent pregnancy, and, when taken correctly, it is up to 99.9% effective. However, the pill does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV (the virus that causes AIDS). The latex male condom provides the best protection from most STDs. Other types of combined estrogen and progestin hormonal contraception include the patch and the vaginal ring. HOW DOES HORMONAL CONTRACEPTION WORK? A woman becomes pregnant when an egg released from her ovary (the organ that holds her eggs) is fertilized by a man's sperm. The fertilized egg attaches to the inside of a woman's womb (uterus), where it receives nourishment and develops into a baby. Hormones in the woman's body control the release of the egg from the ovary -- called ovulation -- and prepare the body to accept the fertilized egg. Hormonal contraceptives (the pill, the patch, and the vaginal ring) all contain a small amount of man-made estrogen and progestin hormones. These hormones work to inhibit the body's natural cyclical hormones to prevent pregnancy. Pregnancy is prevented by a combination of factors. The hormonal contraceptive usually stops the body from ovulating. Hormonal contraceptives also change the cervical mucus to make it difficult for the sperm to go through the cervix and find an egg. Hormonal contraceptives can also prevent pregnancy by changing the lining of the womb so it's unlikely the fertilized egg will be implanted. Another option for hormonal contraceptives is the extended-cycle pill, such as Seasonale, which was the first one to be approved. Seasonale contains the same hormones as other birth control pills, but the hormones are taken in a longer cycle. That reduces the number of menstrual periods from 13 periods a year to only four a year. That means a woman who takes this pill will menstruate only once each season. ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS OF BIRTH CONTROL PILLS? Yes, there are side effects of birth control pills, although the majority are not serious. Side effects include: • Nausea • Weight gain • Sore or swollen breasts • Small amounts of blood, or spotting, between periods • Lighter periods • Mood changes
