Lithium battery system considerations: Lithium batteries weigh less than half of AGMs and provide more power. Lithium lasts 5 times longer than AGMs. Lithium batteries charge and discharge much more quickly without damage. Initial cost of lithium is more expensive than AGM. There are a lot more factor coming into place as well, like heat for instance. But the point of the video is that batteries degrade based on the number of charge cycles a battery has gone through. The more percent charge a battery loses before charging again, the more charge cycles you will go through. To avoid the mini panic attack we all have when that happens, try these 13 secret simple tricks to prolong your phone’s battery life. Pretty much all mobile apps send you Push-notifications. Taking advantage of this function eats up a lot of your phone's energy and kills the battery. Instead of using vibration, leave your phone on silent or use the ringtone setting with the volume turned down as low as possible. The minimum option for auto-lock is usually 15-30 seconds, but some models even allow you to set it to 10. It works miracles when it comes to saving battery. Airplane mode does the same. What’s also cool about it is that if you keep it on while your phone’s charging, your battery will get full faster. Letting the battery run all the way down actually damages it. That’s because modern lithium-based batteries are specifically made to be charged in short quick sessions. If that’s what they’re designed for, then we should do it that way. When you choose 4G in the settings, both 4G and 3G radios are switched on, which is why your phone loses charge two times faster. So if you really need to save the battery, turn off 4G or even 3G and go with 2G instead. They use this particular chemistry because it offers great energy density, long cycle life, and great charge performance. This makes Tesla’s batteries the absolute top of the line in the EV world. They weigh less, last longer, and power the performance of things like Ludicrous mode. Tesla’s Batteries have gone through 3 stages: Stage 1 was from 2009-2012 found in the Roadster and Model S. Stage 2 was from 2016-2018 and powered the Model S Gen II, and the Model X. Stage 3 starts with the Model 3 in 2018. Stage 1 batteries were constructed with 18650 cells, which are 18 mm wide, and 65 mm tall. They had a NCA formulation that required 11kgs of Cobalt in the cathode, per car. They had a pure graphite anode, with no Silicon. Stage 2 batteries used the same 18650 cells, but reduced the amount of Cobalt required in the cathode from 11 to just 7kg/car. They also introduced a small amount of silicon into their anode. Stage 3 batteries are new for Tesla, and first shipped with the Model 3. Stage 3 batteries have further reduced the amount of cobalt to just around 4.5kg per vehicle. They also have a hybrid silicon/graphite anode, and while proprietary and unreported, probably higher silicon content than their stage 2 batteries. Unlike other companies that are planning to sell tens of thousands of EVs each year, Tesla is planning to sell half a million and then a million EVs each year. It's absolutely crucial to understand supply chain fragility when considering that lithium ion battery production is set to soar. Tesla opened Gigafactory 1 in Sparks Nevada, and though it will only be fully completed by 2020, its pumping out batteries, and will only increase its production rate as it nears completion. Figure out how much space you have left for a battery, then get one custom made. In contrast, the Tesla model 3 uses a new 2170 cell which will be the battery that powers all future tesla models and even their home energy storage solutions. This flexibility is why Tesla can offer a wide variety of range options. By adding more cell blocks in parallel they can increase range without changing the core voltage of the system. In addition to its enhanced handling and driving performance, the hybrid version of the new Camry achieves outstanding fuel efficiency with a best-in-class EPA-estimated mpg of 51 city/ 53 highway/52 combined on the LE grade, an impressive 30 percent increase for combined mpg, and 44 city/47 highway/46 combined on the SE and XLE, reflecting an increase of 21 percent for combined mpg. Dynamic performance is assured thanks to optimal control of the engine working in concert with the electric motor (MG2), while exemplary energy efficiency is achieved by using both electric motors (MG1 and MG2) for hybrid battery charging. Driving characteristics and trunk room are improved through the implementation of the new TNGA packaging as it allows for the hybrid system's battery pack to be moved from the trunk area to beneath the rear seat, positioning the battery weight at a lower center of gravity axis. The updated Power Control Unit (PCU) of the new hybrid system plays a key role in improving the operational efficiency of this eco-sensitive powertrain. Thanks to improvements in the conversion efficiency of the PCU and the transaxle/electric motor, they combine to reduce energy loss by a total of approximately 20 percent. Additionally, improvements to cooling system efficiency has reduced energy loss by about 10 percent. Just like the Prius, the PCU is lighter and more compact as a result of integrating microcontrollers and using a new power stack structure, allowing the unit to be packaged directly above the transaxle. This new design lowers the vehicle's overall center of mass and allows for a lower hood height. Another key change to the PCU is a revised DC-DC converter (converts a source of direct current from one voltage level to another) that sees its control output optimized - - including the conversion to AC power - - helping to reduce the vehicle's overall power consumption. What's more, the output filter for the DC-DC converter has been redesigned so that it is more dimensionally compact (improved packaging/weight savings) and produces less noise (reduced NVH). The 2018 Camry Hybrid is equipped with a Lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery pack on the LE grade and Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack on the SE and XLE. Along with the traditional Camry Hybrid system drive modes of NORMAL, ECO and EV, a new SPORT drive mode setting has been added that allows for an increase in power from the hybrid system for improved acceleration response relative to pedal input. The NORMAL, ECO, and SPORT modes can each be used while EV mode is activated. The Toyota Camry Hybrid also features the new Auto Glide Control (AGC), which helps to improve fuel efficiency by calculating an efficient coasting logic. When driving normally, engine braking will slow the vehicle down when the driver lifts off from the accelerator pedal. However, to avoid aggressive engine braking, AGC limits the loss of vehicle speed through an automatic drive setting that acts more like a neutral gear, allowing the vehicle to coast to the stoplight. An AGC indicator light is illuminated on the Multi-Information Display (MID) when AGC is in operation to alert the driver that less deceleration torque than normal is currently being used. Of note, AGC can only be activated when the vehicle is being operated in the ECO drive mode setting. A New Experience Focused on Vastly Superior Driving Dynamics While in the throes of development, the Camry's engineering team had a huge challenge on their collective to-do list: Create a soul-stirring sedan possessing enhanced, praise-worthy driving dynamics. At the foundation of the Toyota Camry's sporty handling and enhanced ride quality is its high-strength body/platform structure. Through the increased use of ultra-high-tensile steel and the application of a new molding technology it delivers enhanced structural rigidity. Further aiding performance is an innovative new double wishbone rear suspension system that imbues the chassis with responsive handling and precise steering control while simultaneously delivering ride quality on par with premium luxury vehicles. A new four-point engine mounting system adds to the vehicle's civil road manners as it greatly reduces unwanted noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) from permeating into the passenger compartment.
