The bill was opposed by every Democrat, as well as many members of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus and some moderate Republicans. Obama administration knew millions would lose health insurance

02:41
President Barack Obama pitched the Affordable Care Act by repeatedly saying, "If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor... If you like your health-care plan, you will be able to keep your health-care plan." But it turns out that statement isn't true. According to an NBC investigation, over 7 million customers can expect to get notifications that their health insurance has been canceled because their current policies may not meet the new standards under Obamacare. 5 Reasons to Shop Early for Obamacare

00:56
The nationwide Obamacare open enrollment period for 2016 health insurance plans is scheduled to end on January 31, 2017. But, if you want new coverage to start January 1, 2017 you need to apply for coverage before December 15, 2016. Here are our top five reasons you should get online and shop for 2017 coverage before December 15: 1. Have questions? Take the time to talk with someone.Health insurance is a complicated product. When considering different health plans, you may have questions that can’t be answered by a Google search. Licensed agents can answer the really tough questions and help you pick the right plan for your needs, but it’ll be hard to get a licensed agent on the phone if you wait until the last days of open enrollment. Look at your options now while you have time to talk with an expert. 2. Last-minute paperwork is a hassle. You may need some papers handy when enrolling in a plan or applying for insurance subsidies. For example, you may need the Social Security numbers of your spouse and children. You may also want your W2 from last year to help you estimate your 2016 income (and hence your eligibility for subsidies). Get your paperwork in order now to make sure the enrollment process smooth and stress-free. 3. You might forget to search doctor networks and prescription drug coverage too. When you’re in a rush it’s also easy to forget that not all doctors accept all insurance plans. If you have a favorite doctor or hospital, you need to make sure they’re in-network with any new plan you are considering. You’ll also want to make sure that your new plan covers the specific prescription drugs you use at a price that’s affordable 4. Deadline-day causes big headaches and big problems. It’s a big problem every year: Last minute shoppers get stuck in virtual lines trying to submit their health insurance enrollment online before the final bell. In the last-minute crush you could get stuck trying to submit your application for hours, and there’s a chance your enrollment won’t go through in time. Save yourself the frustration and headache by shopping today. 5. Out-of-pocket costs could get overlooked if you wait till the end. When you wait till the last minute, you may only have time to look at the monthly premiums associated with different plan options. But the out-of-pocket costs you’ll face when you actually use your coverage are just as important as your monthly premiums. Give yourself time to find a plan with a deductible and copayments you can actually afford. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Get quotes and compare plans now at: https://www.ehealth.com Follow eHealth at: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/eHealth Twitter: https://twitter.com/eHealth

Obamacare's 2.0 Health Insurance Enrollment Period Begins

00:54
President Barack Obama's plan to extend private health coverage to the uninsured entered a new uncertain phase on Saturday as government-backed online insurance marketplaces opened their 2015 plans to millions of potential enrollees. The HealthCare.gov website was widely expected to avoid the mishaps of a year ago, when technical glitches paralyzed operations and drove Democrat Obama's signature domestic policy to the brink of disaster, exposing him to criticism from Republicans who have campaigned for its repeal. But the administration is also hedging its bets by acknowledging there could be some problems, such as outages and down times, as traffic to the site swells. Officials greatly reduced their overall 2015 target to 9.1 million enrollees from 13 million. http://news.yahoo.com/obamacares-2-0-health-insurance-enrollment-period-begins-130634268.html http://www.wochit.com

Sen. Rand Paul: Our Bill May Cost More In First 2 Years Than Obamacare Did | TODAY

Sen. Rand Paul is speaking out against the GOP health care bill, telling TODAY, “we have more government subsidies in our bill perhaps than Obamacare has, our bill may cost more in the first two years than Obamacare cost, that’s not repeal.” He adds that his goal is the least expensive insurance to most people and while the bill has a chance and he remains open to it, they have to “get rid of the regulations that are causing the prices to go up too much.” » Subscribe to TODAY: http://on.today.com/SubscribeToTODAY » Watch the latest from TODAY: http://bit.ly/LatestTODAY About: TODAY brings you the latest headlines and expert tips on money, health and parenting. Will Obamacare cover my prescription drug costs?

01:43
A common question we hear in our customer care center is, “how do I know if my Obamacare plan covers my prescription drugs?” This is a great question because, if your health plan does not cover your prescription drugs, you could spend a ton of money on prescriptions – even if you have health insurance. There are a couple of ways to do this: The more traditional way to see if your Obamacare plan covers your prescription drugs is to first: Try to find your health insurance plan’s prescription drug formulary – the prescription drug formulary is the list of drugs your plan covers. You may be able to find it online or you may need to call the carrier to get a copy of your plan brochure. Then, look for the name and dosage of your each drug you take on that plan’s formulary. Another option is to use eHealth’s Rx Drug Saver Tool. To use the tool, you simply go to eHealth.com, search for plans and type in your date of birth and zip code. Now you’ll see a bunch of plans available in your area. When you click on this drug tool icon, you can simply add in the names and dosages of the prescription drugs you take. As you begin typing in the name of each drug, close matches will appear in a drop-down menu – making it easier the find the drug you need. Double check to make sure that the dosage information is correct as well. Enter as many different prescription drugs as you need. After you’ve entered your drug details, the eHealth tool shows you all the plans available on eHealth.com in your area, sorted by the plan that gives you the best overall price for health insurance – that includes monthly premiums, deductibles and drug co-pays.

How do I renew my (ACA/Obamacare) health insurance subsidy information?

01:16
How do I renew my health insurance subsidy information? If you’re an eHealth customer, you can update your Obamacare subsidy information in three simple steps: Step 1: Come to eHealth during Open Enrollment starting on November 1st and login to your account. Step 2: Have the following information handy: • The name of everyone on your health plan • Social security numbers for everyone on your plan • And at least an estimate of your annual modified adjusted gross income If you’re hung on the income issue, you’re not alone. There are some great tools and calculators online that you can use to help you figure it out. Or you can talk to a tax advisor. Once you have all of that information available, you’re ready to move on to step 3. On Step 3: You’re ready to start the renewal process from your eHealth account. Be aware, that the renewal process may take up to 45 minutes – so, you want to set aside about an hour to update all of your information and receive your updated subsidy amount. We know this is a lot of time, but doing it early and doing it right will save you from headaches at the application deadline and when you file your taxes. Remember, we’re always here to help you. US: Trump voters fear health insurance loss

02:20
US: Trump voters fear health insurance loss US President Donald Trump has made a rare visit to Congress to ask Republicans to support a replacement healthcare plan. The bill takes apart ex-President Barack Obama's signature affordable healthcare act, known as Obamacare. In Kentucky, the number of uninsured has been cut in half under the programme, but it is also a state that voted overwhelmingly for Trump. How Health Insurance Works

06:30
When I consider purchasing an individual health insurance plan for myself or my family, do I have any financial obligations beyond the monthly premium and annual deductible? Answers: It depends on the plan, but some plans have the following cost-sharing elements that you should be aware of. Co-Payments: Some plans include a co-payment, which is typically a specific flat fee you pay for each medical service, such as $30 for an office visit. After the co-payment is made, the insurance company typically pays the remainder of the covered medical charges. Deductibles: Some plans include a deductible, which typically refers to the amount of money you must pay each year before your health insurance plan starts to pay for covered medical expenses. Coinsurance: Some plans include coinsurance. Coinsurance is a cost sharing requirement that makes you responsible for paying a certain percentage of any costs. The insurance company pays the remaining percentage of the covered medical expenses after your insurance deductible is met. Out-of-pocket limit: Some plans include an out-of-pocket limit. Typically, the out-of-pocket limit is the maximum amount you will pay out of your own pocket for covered medical expenses in a given year. The out-of-pocket limit typically includes deductibles and coinsurance. But, out-of-pocket limits don't typically apply to co-payments. Lifetime maximum: Most plans include a lifetime maximum. Typically the lifetime maximum is the amount your insurance plan will pay for covered medical expenses in the course of your lifetime. Exclusions & Limitations: Most health insurance carriers disclose exclusions & limitations of their plans. It is always a good idea to know what benefits are limited and which services are excluded on your plan. You will be obligated to pay for 100% of services that are excluded on your policy. Beginning September 23, 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (health care reform) begins to phase out annual dollar limits. Starting on September 23, 2012, annual limits on health insurance plans must be at least $2 million. By 2014 no new health insurance plan will be permitted to have an annual dollar limit on most covered benefits. Some health insurance plans purchased before March 23, 2010 have what is called "grandfathered status." Health Insurance Plans with Grandfathered status are exempt from several changes required by health care reform including this phase out of annual limits on health coverage. If you purchased your health insurance policy after March 23, 2010 and you're due for a routine preventive care screening like a mammogram or colonoscopy, you may be able to receive that preventive care screening without making a co-payment. You can talk to your insurer or your licensed eHealthInsurance agent if you need help determining whether or not you qualify for a screening without a co-payment. There are five important changes that occurred with individual and family health insurance policies on September 23, 2010. Those changes are: 1. Added protection from rate increases: Insurance companies will need to publically disclose any rate increases and provide justification before raising your monthly premiums. 2. Added protection from having insurance canceled: An insurance company cannot cancel your policy except in cases of intentional misrepresentations or fraud. 3. Coverage for preventive care: Certain recommended preventive services, immunizations, and screenings will be covered with no cost sharing requirement. 4. No lifetime maximums on health coverage: No lifetime limits on the dollar value of those health benefits deemed to be essential by the Department of Health and Human Services. 5. No pre-existing condition exclusions for children: If you have children under the age of 19 with pre-existing medical conditions, their application for health insurance cannot be declined due to a pre-existing medical condition. In some states a child may need to wait for the state's open-enrollment period before their application will be approved.

Watch two clips comparing Obama's original "you can keep it it" speech with his new speech in the video. Obama stated, "For the vast majority of people who have health insurance that works, you can keep it, for the fewer than 5 percent of Americans who buy insurance on your own, you will be getting a better deal." Individuals seeking health insurance under Obamacare will be able to enroll online through new federal marketplaces beginning October 1. The marketplaces are primarily designed to serve the 48 million Americans without health insurance and those who buy insurance on their own. To help navigate the new system, we speak to Elisabeth Benjamin, Vice President of Health Initiatives of Community Service Society of New York. Watch Part 1 of this interview: http://youtu.be/YtjAWKjjkBI "When you go to the marketplace, you will be able to put in your information and it will give you a very small selection of plans. You will have choices, but the choices will be standardized. You will be able to do a real comparison -- you will know exactly how for example Aetna compares with Empire or Blue Cross Blue shield," Benjamin says. Oklahoma Doctors vs. Obamacare

06:42
Three years ago, Dr. Keith Smith, co-founder and managing partner of the Surgery Center of Oklahoma, took an initiative that would only be considered radical in the health care industry: He posted online a list of prices for 112 common surgical procedures. The 51-year-old Smith, a self-described libertarian, and his business partner, Dr. Steve Lantier, founded the Surgery Center 15 years ago, after they became disillusioned with the way patients were treated at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, where the two men worked as anesthesiologists. In 1997, Smith and Lantier bought the shell of a former surgical center with the aim of creating a for-profit facility that could deliver first-rate care at a fraction of what traditional hospitals charge. The major cause of exploding U.S. heath care costs is the third-party payer system, a text-book concept in which A buys goods or services from B that are paid for by C. Because private insurance companies or the government generally pick up most of the tab for medical services, patients don't have the normal incentive to seek out value. The Surgery Center's consumer-driven model could become increasingly common as Americans look for alternatives to the traditional health care market—an unintended consequence of Obamacare. Patients may have no choice but to look outside the traditional health care industry in the face of higher costs and reduced access to doctors and hospitals. How do you get health insurance?

02:35
How do you get health insurance? That’s a great question! If you need health insurance, you really have three options: One - You can go to a government exchange Two - You can go to a broker, like eHealth.com Three - You can buy directly from an insurance company Each of these three has some similarities, and some differences. Here is what’s the same, no matter where you buy your health insurance: FIRST is Prices – The price of a health insurance plan is fixed, by law, so you can’t get a better price based on where you buy. And, regardless of who you buy from, an insurance company, the government or a broker like eHealth can help you apply for Tax Credits – also known as “Obamacare Subsidies” - Not every one qualifies, but it’s a good idea to try. You may be surprised! The SECOND similarity is Basic Benefits - Thanks to Obamacare, all major medical health insurance plans must have the same basic set of 10 essential health benefits The THIRD is ACCESS – Pre-Existing medical conditions cannot prevent you from getting major medical insurance coverage as long as you apply during the open enrollment period – no matter where you buy. Here is what’s different about each of the three: Insurance Companies - If you buy direct from the insurance company, you’ll have the confidence of knowing you’re working directly with the coverage provider. Government Exchanges - If you buy through a government exchange, they have navigators who can answer basic questions about the Affordable Care Act. You’ll also see all of the health plans available in your area that can be bought using a government subsidy or tax credit. eHealth.com - If you buy from eHealth, in most cases you’ll have a lot more plans to choose from - eHealth shows all the plans that can be bought with a subsidy as well as plans that protect you from tax penalties, but can’t be bought with a subsidy. eHealth – and other brokers – also have licensed agents trained on the different options and can legally recommend plans based on your specific health care needs. And, with eHealth, if you ever run into a problem with your insurance company, you can call the nation’s largest online broker for help. 5 Reasons to Consider Short-Term Health Insurance

02:16
1.Short-term plans are great for filling gaps in your coverage It’s not uncommon to face a gap in coverage when you sign up for a new health insurance plan or take a new job. For example, if you sign up for a new Obamacare health insurance plan after December 16, 2016, your new coverage is not likely to start until February 1, 2017 at the earliest. If you don’t want to go completely uninsured in the first month of the year, a short-term plan can offer you a valuable layer of protection. 2.Short-term plans cap your liability for many medical expenses Though short-term plans will not typically provide you with coverage for pre-existing medical conditions or preventive care, they do cover the sorts of medical bills you may face if you unexpectedly injure yourself, become ill, or are hospitalized. When you’re temporarily without standard health insurance coverage, it’s good to know that you have some form of financial protection in case the unexpected happens. 3.Short-term health insurance is affordable Because of the limited coverage that short-term health insurance plans provide and the limited period of coverage they offer, short-term plans tend to have significantly lower prices than standard major medical health insurance. According to data from eHealth.com, the average monthly premium for short-term coverage in 2015 was $116. By comparison, the average monthly premium for major medical plans selected by non-subsidized eHealth shoppers during the 2016 open enrollment period was $321 for an individual. 4.Short-term coverage is flexible While short-term health insurance plans are not intended to provide permanent coverage, applicants may indicate how long they want their coverage to continue, within certain limits. You can generally purchase short-term coverage by the month (up to the maximum time allowed by the plan). This allows you to customize your coverage period to suit your personal needs. At the end of your coverage period, you may be able to re-apply for another short-term policy in some cases. Keep in mind that it is possible to be declined for short-term coverage based on your medical history. 5.Short-term health insurance is easy to apply for Unlike applying for major medical coverage, which can take a long time depending on your needs and whether or not you’re also applying for government subsidies, short-term plans are relatively easy to apply for. What’s more, a coverage decision on your short-term application may be made almost instantly. Coverage under a new short-term health insurance plan can generally begin in a matter of days. You can apply for short-term coverage online through eHealth.com or through other licensed agents or brokers.
