Inflammation of the lungs due to inhaling allergens leads to the symptoms of asthma in cats. This inflammation occurs when a cat inhales an allergen (dust, pollen) that triggers the immune system, starting an allergic reaction that tightens the airways and leads to mucus buildup. Asthma symptoms can range from a mild cough or squeaky wheeze to a full-blown asthma attack, like in people. Although feline asthma has no cure, it can be effectively managed with various medications and avoidance strategies. Work with your veterinarian to create a treatment plan for your cat. What foods are bad for asthma? What not to eat? What should you avoid if you have asthma? Studies show that certain foods can help prevent or minimize common asthma symptoms, such as wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. Likewise, there are foods that make them worst. Here we have listed worse foods for asthma sufferers: Peanuts: One study found children with asthma who also had a peanut allergy seemed to develop asthma earlier than kids without a peanut allergy and were also more likely to be hospitalized and more likely to need steroids. Many asthmatic children with peanut allergies also have allergies to grass, weeds, cats, dust mites and tree pollen, all of which can trigger asthma attacks. Dried Fruit: Many kinds of dried fruit include sulfites, and one of the most problematic additives in foods for many people with asthma. Wine or beer: Many kinds of wine and beer also contain sulfites. You may have to forsake that glass of cabernet if you find yourself coughing or wheezing after indulging. Some research also suggests that histamines in wine can cause symptoms like watery eyes, sneezing and wheezing. Smoking: Cigarette smoke contains different chemicals and gases that can irritate the lungs. Smoking not only increases your chance of getting asthma but also worsens the symptoms such as coughing and wheezing. Also, smoking during pregnancy is known to increase the risk of decreased lung function and wheezing in infants. Cat Allergies?, Try this Cat allergies in people are caused by a reaction to allergens produced cats most often when they lick their fur. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to cats include swollen, red, itchy, watery eyes; nasal congestion, itchy nose, sneezing, chronic sore throat or itchy throat, coughing, wheezing, asthma, hay fever, hives or rash on the face or chest, or itchy skin. Besides people taking allergy medications or allergy vaccinations and giving your cat a cat bath, sometimes in certain cases supplements and vitamins can help minimize a person's reaction to the dander from cats. Two main vitamins for cat allergies are vitamin C and vitamin D. Btw "Putin the Cat" is very likely an Blue Abyssinian cat and not a Russian Blue. I got him at Judy's Pet Rescue in Florida. His marking are very much like the Blue Abyssinian cat. Btw both Abyssinian cats and Russian Blue cats are considered more non-allergenic cats than most cats. Abyssinian cats are popular in the USA and are easier to find. They are also a very dog-like cat. "Putin the Cat" is very loyal and dog-like and that is actually a strong trait in the Abyssinian cat.

Feline upper respiratory illness (URI) affects a cat’s mouth, nasal passages, upper airway, and possibly the eyes. It is usually caused by one or more infectious agents. Two viruses—feline herpes virus-1 (FHV-1) and feline calicivirus (FCV)—commonly cause feline URI; Bordetella and Chlamydia are bacteria that can cause feline URI. Feline URI can make your cat feel pretty miserable, so it is best to treat your cat as soon as you notice signs of the disease. The sooner you treat your cat, the sooner she will feel better and get back to her normal activities. Welcome to Pets and Animals YouTube Channel. http://NaturalCatHealth.com/vibrancy Congestive heart failure in cats Congestive heart failure in cats is on the rise. Only a few short decades ago, it was rare, even unheard of. But today, as cats health declines, more and more rare and unusual diseases are becoming common. Most people assume that with the widespread vaccination programs, all the choices in commercial cat food as well as the billions spent on veterinary research, that cats health is at an all time high. Sadly, the reverse is true. How can you tell? Cats don’t live as long as they use to, baring accidents. 10 is now considered to be elderly, whereas it was not uncommon for domestic cats to live for 30 healthy years. When you talk to the veterinarians who were trained and worked in the 1960s and 70s, you realise that it wasn’t because people didn’t care as much. The diseases just weren’t there. To realistically look at health and all that contributes to good health as well as bad health, you need to consider the epigenetic approach. This considers the environment as the key to turning health ‘on’ and ‘off’. Not genetics. Genetics do play a part, but it is a very small part compared with the environmental factors. Aspects of the environment as the determining factor includes: diet toxins stress and the genetic factor merely acts as the expression of the poor health. So let’s examine these and their affects, because there are aspects that you may not have considered, but are very worthy of your consideration. Invariably, the diet is a typical commercial cat food diet, that is made by an unregulated industry, which contains cheap rather than nutritious ingredients, as well as highly toxic chemicals that masquerade at ‘vitamins’ ‘minerals’ and ‘anti-oxidants’. And don’t forget the preservatives, although these are not usually mentioned. No-one will fare well on this for long. The veterinary drugs that are used in abundance (including vaccines) are not medicines. They are toxic chemicals which suppress symptoms. This never cures any condition. So you have cats being fed non-nutritious food on a daily basis plus a plethora of toxins entering their body on a regular basis. These are two very influential areas that affect your cat’s health even before we look at their home environment or the common emotional stress our domestic animals take on from their human families. So how does all this affect congestive heart failure in cats, you may ask? This is simply the expression of your cats genetics following usually years of non-nutritious food, the ever increasing toxic load plus the stresses and traumas cats suffer with by living with us. But change is not necessarily easy, especially when we have been told to do things this way. Discover the steps to the natural approach to restore vibrant health to your cat, by checking out NaturalCatHealth.com/vibrancy https://youtu.be/ScVfXK2fMSk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzcSwszvzks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScVfXK2fMSk

Poor Casper. After rescuing this big boy from the outdoors (his previous owner's abandoned him), we found him doing this strange cough. It didn't look like a hairball cough and happened often enough that it concerned us. So we took this video to show our vet. And sure enough, this is the telltale sign of kitty asthma. They also took X-rays to verify. This is what a feline asthma attack looks and sounds like. During an asthma attack, a cat will put his head down near the ground and stretch his neck out (like a seal). This is not a hairball cough. Feline asthma affects approximately 1% of the american domestic feline population. Casper is now taking a steroid, Prednisolone, daily which has helped to decrease the frequency of his attacks. If you see your cat doing this, take him to the vet for a check-up.

Start with gradual introduction of the inhaler/spacer mask with positive reinforcement. We use a fish oil ointment that our cat loves to reward her for putting the mask on her face before we started using the medicine. Then added the puff of steroid with the mask/spacer with the reward before and after the medicine, including brushing her afterwards, which she loves. We close the room off to the other animals/ kids, so she knows it's her special attention time. She now sits and waits for her treat/medicine twice a day and meows to ask for it! Good luck!

Dogs and cats both can become asthmatic. Just like humans asthma is caused by breathing tubes being irritated but allergens. This can cause your pets throat to be swollen and restricted. This could be pollen, chemicals, or even a cold or virus. Cats generally have worse asthma than dogs and female cats are more likely to have asthma than male cats. Overweight and older animals are more at risk for asthma. What Do You Need To Look For? Dogs with asthmaIt can be tough to tell if your cat or dog has asthma. The most common symptom of asthma is coughing, however coughing is a symptom of many different problems. As your animal tries to breathe their lungs become swollen and filled with mucus, and it makes it very hard to breathe. With cats it might look like they are trying to cough up a hairball but n hairball comes out. Some other symptoms for dogs and cats: Loss of appetite Wheezing Weight loss In cats they can also become lethargic and are at risk for anorexia. Dogs can also show these signs: Trouble breathing Open mouth breathing Dry cough Trouble with exercise Smaller dogs in general have worse health than bigger dogs and the true is with asthma too. Smaller dogs are more at risk to develop asthma. So How Do You Treat Asthma? Asthma is treated in the same way that we as humans are. Cats and dogs are treated by oral medication or asthma inhalers. If you know what your pets are allergic too it is important to keep them away from those irritants. While under control asthma isn't a big issue, but it can become deadly if untreated. It is highly unlikely that your pet is allergic to you. You may be asked to keep a diary on your pet and write down what happened when they had the asthma attack. Things they ate, where they were, or anything else out of the ordinary.

People aren't the only ones with asthma. After being diagnosed as having asthma by our veterinarian, our cat, Ranger, began his asthma treatment as seen on this video. We chose to use the AeroKat aerosol chamber because of the breathing indicator and how easy it was to use. We placed the AeroKat over Ranger's nose and mouth for just a few seconds at first without the medication and he was soon ready for his first treatment. The AeroKat breathing indicator made it easy for us to count to 7 breaths (as per our veterinarian's instructions). Ranger doesn't seem to mind his treatments at all. In fact, when we get his medicine out, he usually jumps up on the bed eager to have his treatment. Visit Ranger at my store,ZorroCreations, www.zazzle.com/zorrocreations where you'll find great gift ideas and other products featuring him and my other adorable animals.

Owning a cat could prevent asthma in children Contrary to popular belief, a cat in the house is good for infants born with a gene that makes them more susceptible to the condition. The higher the risk of getting asthma, the more benefit owning a cat would have. According to a new study, owning a cat can help prevent high risk children from developing asthma. Contrary to popular belief, a cat in the house is good for infants born with a gene that makes them more susceptible to the condition. According to Danish scientists, ‘early exposure’ to these allergens could help prevent the ailment developing. However, researchers at the University of Copenhagen's specialist childhood asthma research facility found no benefits for owning a dog. In the study, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunilogy there is a genetic variant, called a TT genotype, which is associated with a higher risk of asthma and related illnesses such as pneumonia and forms of bronchitis. Having a cat made little difference to children with a low risk of asthma, lead author Dr Jakob Stokholm discovered. However, the chances of getting asthma, pneumonia and bronchitis were 'inversely associated' among the TT genotype kids. In other words, the higher the risk of getting asthma, the more benefit owning a cat would have. It is believed that exposure to the allergens in cat hair helps bolster a child's immune system as it develops, rather than as an adult when it is fully formed. The reason cats are more effective than dogs is possibly because they are more likely to have contact with a child's bed than dogs. Bronchitis is the term used to denote inflammation of the bronchi and bronchioles. Chronic bronchitis is a long-standing inflammation of the lower respiratory tract. The condition of asthma includes both sudden and long-term inflammation of the lower airways due to increased sensitivity to various stimuli, including allergens, narrowing of the airways, and an accumulation of specific cells – seen commonly in inflammation and allergic reactions – within these airways. In cats, both acute and chronic inflammation of the lower airways is denoted collectively as feline bronchitis, or feline bronchopulmonary disease. Chronic inflammation in the lower airways, if left untreated, may leads to fibrosis (excess fibrous tissue in the lungs) and lung atelectasis (a disease in which the lungs are not able to inflate). This disease can occur in cat of any age, but is most common between the ages of 2-8 years.

It is very difficult to diagnose, therefore nine out of ten cases can only judge by the FIP symptoms. If you find any of the symptom, take it to the Vet immediately, start putting them on Interferon, and really have to take good care of their diet. Order yourself the following Nosode Ainsworths Barley Green Bupleurum Root Yarrow Flower Just in case, if they are getting a second attack. Also there is a Japanese product call Aureo (Beta Gluocan), feed them on a daily basis. You may contact me on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/FIPcat

Update May15, 2018 : After 1 year on Flucticasone Proprionate using the Aerokat, Olie have improved a lot, very little episode of attacks as compared to before he was on the steroids. There's not much choice but steroids to give him better quality of life. We opted for the puffer, direct to the lungs rather than oral meds of Prednisolone. But i'm thankful he's doing much better now. Olie had this bouts of coughing for the past months and it seems to have worsen. He would go limp in this front legs before the cough starts. Had an x-ray done and found that his left lung doesn't show, instead the heart is now in the cavity of the left lung (left lung collapsed), while his right lungs looks fine. More test are being done to conclude the causes of his coughs. Blood test came back ok, heartworm test came back ok. So Dr suspects feline asthma and prescribed Prednisolone & Theopylline for 8 days to monitor how he fares on it. Futher planning will weighed when after 8 days of initial medication. After all the meds, feline asthma is ruled out too..... went for a few more vets, they would normally prescribe the same type of meds, and we also went to a certified animal acupuncturist vet as well, and his condition is still the same.... so..... what do i do? I don't know..... :(
