Track Plans And More Track Plans. Many Viewers Have Asked About Track Plans For Around The Walls In A Small Room. I show in this video, three track plans from the masters in model railroading. Gordon Odegard, Andy Sperandeo, and Jim Findley have been creating outstanding track plans for decades that have not grown old through the years. Many viewers have been asking questions about what is the best track plan for around the wall in a small spare bedroom. Although I tell them whatever they enjoy doing, weather it be switching or watching the train run around the room, it's up to them to decide what they want based on existing track plans that they have seen. In this video, I show three track plans that would work well in this situation. Even though there are 101 track plans in the book I reference, any portion of each track plan can be an inspiration for any design. A quick, super easy and free method to plan a layout with realistic constraints using layout design software called Anyrail. Here's a few things I have learned since starting to plan my new layout 6 months ago. Using the free download from Anyrail, it's easy to visualize and realistically plan a layout to scale. Here are the steps: 1. Download free trial version of Anyrail for windows. This demo lets you work with 50 objects on the grid. More than enough to plan the constraints. 2. Set up your grid and perimeter of the layout space you have to work with. 3. Using the place circle tool, place the desired curve radius onto the grid. You can move it around to help you visualize what different curve radii will look like and what you can fit. 4. Delete the circles and add the curves in using flextrack. 5. Once you are satisfied with all the curves in your plan, export the file as a .jpg image so you can print it. 6. Print off your new plan and now finish it by drawing in the sections in-between the curves including all sidings and spurs. What you will end up with is an actual scale drawing of your plan that will fit in the space you have designed it for provided all your measurements are correct. The key is to use the software to do the curves for you, that way you won't be doing it inaccurately by hand. It can even do perfect curve easements just like the 1:1 prototypes! But that's the subject of another video. Happy Model Railroad Planning! Ben

If you think Colin has done a great job on his first video, then I'm sure he'd be happy if you shared it with friends. I have uploaded it to youtube for him as he doesn't pretend to be an expert with computers. I hope you enjoy it. Free catalog http://www.modelbuildings.org/Free-Catalog.htm Facebook https://www.facebook.com/modeltrainsrailroads Model Train Blog http://blog.model-train-help.com Ways to make your model railway layout appear larger than it actually is. One of the most impressive ways of creating the illusion of a model railroad backdrop stretching further than in reality it does is to use the clever method of positioning thin scale model structures against the railway's background. The model railroading term for such buildings is referred to as “low relief” structures/buildings which display only the frontage, a part of a roof line and a portion of two side walls. So, rather of filling up valuable track real estate space with structures that are 6” or 8” deep, you can build these scale model background buildings to just 1” or 2” deep. When you think about it – doing that could save you heaps of space whilst retaining the illusion these structures are full-sized railway buildings that extend far into the horizon. You can construct these buildings to HO scale, OO gauge, or to N scale… before positioning them in front of the skyline or a tree-lined background. The trick then is to carefully place some greenery, people, animals, vehicles, or track in front… and you end up with the illusion the scenic features extends deeper than it really does. This clever railwaying technique is popular with experienced and beginner model railroaders who are pushed for space (aren't we all), and who want to make their railroad appear larger than in reality it is. This techniques is an absolute space-saver, considering it provides you more room for additional train track, locomotives and rolling stock, or other scenery accessories. And, it is a waste to cut up costly plastic model kits when you can easily download and build these designs yourself… saving money for other projects! You can construct these scale model railroad buildings to be as strong as you desire by gluing the photo-realistic designs directly onto card, some foam board, corflute, or you can even consider using plywood if you so choose. It’s entirely over to you what material you use in the construction process. And, there is no requirement to purchase paints or learn airbrushing, because with these photo designs that's already been done for you. So what you are basically getting is full color plans and detailed instructions which are simple to follow. The railway model buildings available from on this website are 'photo-realistic' in quality, and already incorporate fine details such as curtains in the windows, old rusty pipes, some flaky paintwork, greenish mold on concrete, natural cracks in the brickwork… even down to small detailing like products for sale in store windows. Looking closely at the fine detailing on these scale model building plans you’d easily think they were 100% real as they are so life-like. Best of all; if you download the free catalog you'll discover there’s a wide range of scale model plans to choose from for HO, N scale, and OO gauge.… and the plans are easy to download, print and then build.

There's a LOT of work to do before this will be ready for train operation,...but what you see is the track laid out as it looks when completed. I need to draw lines outlining the track so that I can lay cork road bed,and then glue the track to that. As you can see,I have a foam base. Again,...this layout is by no means finished,...LOTS of work to do. It will be wired for DCC,and I will be using the DCC starter system from NCE.

Here we have a custom model railroad designed by a client to fit custom cabinetry in his home. Our client began by submitting a track plan featuring a modest industrial pulp wood and gravel switching operation. Once our design team developed the concept of the design fabrication began on the modules. Modular benchwork construction coincided with photographs and dimensions provided within our clients track plan. The design called for modules to be assembled and mounted on custom finished cabinetry. The system flush mounts to the back wall with the front flush with the cabinetry to match the rooms' décor. To facilitate a finished appearance, all turnout controls are recessed into the benchwork and face finished with a ¼ luanne secured with brads. All corners were mitered to ensure a seamless appearance. Shortly after fabrication began our client drove up from Atlanta to visit our new facility to learn wiring techniques and track lying processes. During the visit we were provided with a paper footprint of the finished cabinetry where the modules would be attached. With exception to one turnout, all of the tracks aligned exactly to the track plan specifications; the design began to resemble a beautiful finished product. Over the course of production collaboration became essential to ensure operational details. Being a railroad executive our client emphasized the importance of prototypical operations and applications. Thanks to Caboose Industries, Inc. we secured a low manual switch stand for manual throws in the industrial sidings. Cabooses Industries President Steve truly came through for this project in guiding us to their model 210S with operating targets. Once painted, these affordable switch stands provided for a moderm realistic operation of ensuring proper alignment with hand painted red and green targets. Main line operation turnouts are controlled with Tortoise Switch Machines. Spanning the distance between the cabinets called for a mix of craftsmanship and engineering. To achieve a realistic approach (while ensuring safety of the headend equipment and revenue behind it) the A.E.R. Group staff fabricated a wooden frame trestle base to be inserted into groves on either end modules. Electrical conduction for the bridge was fabricated in addition to safety systems to prevent equipment traveling down the bridge lead. With a combination of two single through truss bridges and one plate girder bridge (all Central Valley Kits) the span was achieved. The craftsmanship and level of quality enables our client to safely enter and exit his pike without risking injury to self or equipment. In addition, scenery applications (e.g. water) and turf can be applied to the surface for an uninterrupted scenic appearance. Communications between all parties was essential in the design, fabrication, assembly and installation phases of this system. This build is truly a testament of achieving realistic model railroad operations in collaboratively crafting a functional piece of décor. Thanks for visting with us and we hope you enjoy our 2012 season with the A.E.R. Group Team.

Subscribe My Chnnel For More Videos https://www.youtube.com/modeltrainsrailroads Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/modeltrainsrailroads Free model trains e-book from http://scaletrains.org All model railroaders make mistakes when planning and building a layout, even those who have constructed several model railroads before. But, the key with anything in life, is to learn from mistakes. For beginners, one of the more common mistakes is selecting the wrong scale. It’s advisable to measure start by measuring exactly how much room is available, and also consider how much space you might need now, and in the future if or when the layout expands. Unfortunately some beginners start collecting in one scale and then later decide to change to another scale. The beginner will either begin all over or even attempt mixing scales. That can be a very bad choice, so it makes sense to decide critical things starting from day one. Another suggestion is to visualize what you want the model railroad layout to look like, prior to getting started. Decide what you want the railway to represent prior to racing out to purchase something. Choose whether you want your model railroad to replicate a contemporary railroad, or if you prefer it depicts a period in history. • Do you prefer steam engine or diesel operations? • Do you prefer to run a DCC system or the more traditional DC? • Do you want your model trains to transport freight, passengers, or perhaps both? • What style of scenery and landscapes do you prefer for your layout? Farmland, mountains, a city scene, or perhaps a smallish town… consider carefully what elements you would like included, and what will work best in the area you have for your railroad setup. • What style of structures, buildings, bridges etc., do you want included? Would you be thinking of including some warehouses or factories, a school, fire station, some shops, a church, a mining town, a container port … the possibilities are numerous depending on your theme and era! • Will your railroad be on one level or perhaps spread over several levels, or perhaps your space might be more suitable for a shelf layout? • Which track configuration would be best in the space you have? Maybe a figure 8 design, a point-to-point layout, a twice-around track, or a dog-bone track format? • Will you be wanting a mainline, with perhaps a branch line? • Will you be adding track sidings, or possibly a classification or staging yard or roundhouse and turntable? There is no shortage of options worthy of consideration prior to geeting started. And, it’s usually best to imagine how your completed model railroad will look, prior to getting started. Undergoing some historic research and careful planning can be really interesting if you tackle it with the right attitude. And, carefully considered planning can actually save dollars and frustration later. For example, a common error is to make gradients that are far too steep. An engine will run smoothly along the flat track and then reach a gradient that it needs the power to climb. It could stop or battle to climb the grade if it is too steep. If the gradient is visual, then restricting it to a maximum of 2 percent is a good option. If the grade is out of view (such as inside a mountain range, or as part of a helix), then possibly use a steeper grade. The weight ratio on a scale model railroad actually permits a steeper grade than would normally be found on a real-life railroad. Unlike on real railroads, few model railroaders operate 100 car trains, so the model trains can generally be expected to tackle steeper gradients. Difficulties also occur if track curves are made too tight. Although shorter engines and freight cars can navigate tight curves, longer passenger cars potentially run the risk of getting stuck or derailing on tight curves. railroads, trains, railways, model railroader, model trains, scale models, ho scale, oo gauge, track, locomotives, model trains, trains, railroad, g-scale, santa fe, toy train, model trains, model train, model trains scales, model trains for kids, model trains n scale, model trains 2017.

Subscribe My Chnnel For More Videos https://www.youtube.com/modeltrainsrailroads Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/modeltrainsrailroads/ Will Your Model Train Layout Make Sense Visually? Planning your first model railway layout can be a daunting task, because there’s so much to learn, and so much to get wrong. But, believe me, even us old hands can stuff up badly at times. So, I’ll give you a couple model railroading scenery pointers I’ve learned… Positioning your scenery at different levels can add loads of interest to a layout. Even just running adjoining track at different levels can offset the predictability of a simple track layout. However…and this is important… raising one track higher than another needs to look natural and stay in context with the scene. If you get it wrong, it can be difficult to fix later. The tracks will need to flow scenically, so they may require a retaining wall, small cliff face, or raised grassed hill to achieve the right look. Just take your time, and think through each decision at the planning stage. Try to keep to a layout theme, or at least use carefully planned scenic transitions or scenic dividers if want to mix eras, seasons, or extremely different geographic locations. If you have plenty of space you’ll probably get away with it, but if you only have a small layout, then you’re probably best to keep to one theme. It is easy to get carried away with something new at the railroad hobby store, but will it be a logical fit with the rest of your layout? Will adding more items just clutter your layout? Does placing a mountain in the middle of a desert scene make sense? Will a 1972 British MGB sports car look out of place in a 1960’s US town scene? So, just take your time to think things through. By doing that you’ll probably prevent 50% of mistakes from happening. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to never stop learning. If you haven’t already got a copy, I would suggest you grab the FREE Model Train Tips ebook from the ScaleTrains.org website. It is totally free to download and could save you from the type of problems I mentioned. model railway, model railroad, railways, trains, railroads, railroad scenery, model trains, scale trains, build a model railroad, model, railroad, scenery, train, model railroad scenery, model railroad scenery techniques, model railroad scenery trees, model railroad scenery ground cover, model railroad scenery tutorials.

Any proficient modeler knows, if you take your time and apply the necessary effort to build good, sturdy model railroad track, your layout is going to last you a long, long time. Conversely, if you rush through the process of designing and installing model railroad track and you don’t pay attention to the details, you’ll find yourself pulling up and redoing the tracks sooner rather than later.
