Top 3 Safest Carbs (Low Glycemic and Gluten Free)

06:41
Please Subscribe for 3x Videos Per Week + Live Broadcasts! http://ThomasDeLauer.com Top 3 Safest Carbs (Low Glycemic and Gluten Free) Overview of Glycemic Index The “glycemic index” (GI) is a term used to describe the blood glucose response to a particular food - is a method of ranking the effects of different carbohydrate-rich based foods based on their effects on blood sugar. High-GI foods pass rapidly through your digestive system and into your bloodstream, driving up your blood glucose levels and causing insulin to spike. Low-GI foods, on the other hand, pass more slowly through the digestive system and enter the bloodstream gradually, which keeps insulin levels low. (1,2) (55 or less = low, 55-69 = medium, 70 or more, high) Low GI Food Benefits: Increase the body's sensitivity to insulin, improve diabetes control, reduce hunger and keep you fuller for longer, minimize carb cravings, and minimize energy crashes Vegetable: Asparagus - 15 Fruit: Grapefruit - 25 Grain (kinda); Buckwheat - 25 Asparagus - 15 Digestive Health: Asparagus contains significant quantities of the nutrient inulin. Inulin is a kind of complex carbohydrate that is commonly known as prebiotic. It does not get digested until it reaches the large intestine, where it is fed upon by a kind of good bacteria like Lactobacilli. This aids in the improved absorption of nutrients Inflammation Asparagus contains racemofuran, which is a phytochemical that has anti-inflammatory effect on the body By inhibiting an enzyme called cyclooxygenase (or COX), racemofuran interferes with the chemical reactions that end up causing pain when your body's inflammatory response is prompted. (3,4) Grapefruit - 25 Insulin Resistance Grapefruit contains a specialized antioxidant, naringenin that has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and help maintain a healthy weight - naringenin makes the liver burn fat instead of storing it. Grapefruit helps to lower insulin levels and it was shown in one study that grapefruit worked just as well as metformin in lowering blood sugar levels with a 13% reduced fasting blood sugar level (5) Buckwheat – 25 While most people think of buckwheat as a whole grain, it’s actually a seed that is high in both protein and fiber. It supports heart health and can help prevent diabetes and digestive disorders - buckwheat seeds, also called “groats,” are packed with nutrients and antioxidants Cardiovascular support Buckwheat's beneficial effects are due in part to its rich supply of rutin Rutin counteracts platelet-activating factor (PAF), which causes blood clot formation and which triggers the inflammatory reactions of allergies. Rutin can also reduce the rate at which oxidized LDL cholesterol attracts the white blood cells that transform it into the plaque that hardens arteries. Magnesium Buckwheat is also a good source of magnesium. This mineral relaxes blood vessels, improving blood flow and nutrient delivery while lowering blood pressure—the perfect combination for a healthy cardiovascular system. Take Dr. Berg's Body Type Quiz: http://bit.ly/BodyTypeQuiz Dr. Eric Berg talks about Sugar and diabetes. Sugar increases insulin which lowers the sugar in the blood and puts it in storage as fat. A healthy diet should consist of fats and moderate amount of proteins. A diabetic diet should have high quantities of fat. Sugar stimulates hunger and you carve for more food. 40 % of all heart diseases are related to excess sugar. Keeping your blood sugar levels in control is a primary objective for a healthy body. The current recommendations for carbohydrates based on the American Diabetes Associations is 45-60 grams of carbohydrates PER MEAL!!!!! not per day, per meal. http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitn... blood sugar problems can be improved if the right foods are eaten, but overall sugars and carbs must be reduced. Fats can be increased. Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, 50 years of age is a chiropractor who specializes in weight loss through nutritional and natural methods. Insulin Resistance: How To Reverse It By Eating MORE Carbs

06:54
Got insulin resistance? Discover how to reverse it naturally by eating MORE carbs! Insulin resistance is when many of the cells in your body become resistant to the hormone insulin. For example, you eat a meal that contains sugar in it in the form of glucose. As the glucose is absorbed into your bloodstream from your gut a signal goes to your pancreas to tell it to start producing insulin to help transport the sugar coming into the bloodstream, to cells in your body that need the glucose for fuel. The insulin resistance happens when the cells that the insulin hormone is delivery the glucose to, start to become resistant to it, so this then causes the pancreas to produce even more insulin in an effort to deliver the glucose to these insulin resistant cells in the body that need it. A1C test is a blood tests that gives you an average level of your blood sugar over the previous 90 days. The higher the percentage, the higher your average blood glucose levels are, and the higher your risk for either diabetes or related complications due to chronic high blood sugar and insulin levels. It’s much more accurate than checking your blood sugar levels. Needless to say, all of us will look and feel much better and actually help prevent MOST diseases by keeping your A1C levels lower. So with that said, I’m going to quickly discuss 10 clinically proven ways that you can quickly, easily and naturally improve your blood sugar levels, lower your A1C and help avoid and/or reverse many health problems. 1. Exercise Daily Regular, daily exercise can help you lose unwanted fat. But more importantly, helps improve “insulin sensitivity”. 2. Eat The Correct Carbohydrates When you eat carbs, your body converts it into sugar (mostly glucose). As your blood sugar goes up, your body secretes insulin to help lower it back down to a normal, healthy range. Now, carbs are not evil. However, the wrong carbs, especially in high amounts ARE bad for your health. Focus more on vegetables, some yams, little bit of rice, legumes, quinoa and whole grains. Get rid of the bad carbs and eat less total carbs.(2,3,4,5) 3. Eat More Fiber Fiber has so many benefits and sadly, most people are barely getting any. You should be eating at least 25 grams or more. While most Americans are barely getting around 5-10. 4. Eat Smaller Meals, More Often I’m sure you’ve heard about this when it comes to weight loss. However, one of the reasons for the weight loss is the lower blood sugar levels from eating smaller meals. (9,10,11) 5. Watch What You Drink You should never drink your calories -- no sodas, juices, alcohol, “shakes” or anything similar. They all digest quickly and spike up your blood sugar. 6. Manage Your Stress Levels You can’t have health without also discussing stress management. What’s interesting is that stress increases blood sugar levels AND decreases insulin sensitivity. (15,16) And this is because of a change in hormones such as glucagon, cortisol, testosterone, adrenal hormones and so forth. (17,18) 7. Better Quality Sleep You can’t manage your stress if you don’t get enough, quality sleep. Again, this has to do with a negative changes in your hormones when you don’t sleep well. (20,21) 8. Drink Apple Cider Vinegar Apple cider vinegar, like exercise, helps lower blood sugar levels AND improve insulin sensitivity. (22,23,24). 9. Lose Fat Losing unwanted fat and decreasing your belly fat has numerous health benefits. This is even more true with blood sugar levels because the lower your body fat, the higher your insulin sensitivity. 10. Take Natural Supplements Most people just give up after a week or two since they aren’t getting results fast enough, especially for the amount of time and effort. This is why I always suggest people take natural supplements. ======================================== ======================================== Thank you for watching. Keto Diet & Diabetes: How Ketosis Affects Insulin

06:58
Click Here to Subscribe: http://Bit.ly/ThomasVid Website: http://ThomasDeLauer.com Get the Clothes I Wear at 25% Off - Use Code: TDSUMMER25 at http://www.Hylete.com Keto Diet & Diabetes: How Ketosis Affects Insulin - Thomas DeLauer There's a lot of mystery surrounding ketosis and diabetes and in this video I wanna give you an understanding of both diabetes and how it affects the body but also ketosis and its effect on diabetes, not only in theory, but also with some peer reviewed studies. In this video, I wanna start off by breaking down what insulin does in the body. Then I wanna talk about the various forms of diabetes, type one and type two and then I'm gonna give you a breakdown of how the ketogenic diet and insulin plays a role when it comes down to diabetes because it's really important that we have an understanding there. So lets dive in and talk about insulin really quick. So within our pancreas, we have these cells that are known as beta cells and what beta do is they produce insulin as a response to any kind of carbohydrate that our body sees. So basically, when we have glucose that is derived from food that we eat, our beta cells produce these insulin molecules. These insulin molecules flow around through the body, they allow the cell to absorb that glucose. They allow liver cells, muscle cells and fat cells to absorb the glucose to ultimately be used for fuel. So then we take the next step to look at diabetes, we can understand how diabetes and insulin work together. So the first one I wanna talk about is type one diabetes. A type one diabetes is not traditional, type one is a little bit more rare and it is an autoimmune condition. You see, what happens with this autoimmune condition is you body is actually fighting off beta cells. So those beta cells that produce insulin, your body's own immune system is fighting them off and it's making it so that they're not able to produce insulin. That's why a type one diabetic needs to take exogenous insulin to make sure that they're blood sugar doesn't go through the roof from foods that they eat. Here's the other thing, without insulin, the body can start to essentially starve. Because it's not able to see that glucose because the insulin is never allowing the glucose into the cells, the body starts to break down proteins and fats. That's why often times, type one diabetic are a lot more thin that the type two diabetic. It's not the conventional way that we would look at diabetes as just being an issue with overweight people. Then we move in to type two diabetes. Type two diabetes is the more common one and this is sort of the opposite in a sense, it happens on the other end of the spectrum. Our body's cells are liver, our fat, our muscle cells no longer can receive insulin very well or they get desensitized to it. So they get so much insulin at one point in time that they don't respond to it nearly as well, which means that blood glucose ends up staying elevated and therefore, the pancreas tries its best to produce more insulin. Those beta cells try really hard because they see blood sugar rising but they can only do so much. So they try and try and try and eventually become exhausted and sometimes even fully shut down, which gets you to the point where you cannot produce enough insulin to handle the glucose. So you either have to take medications to lower your glucose or you have to take exogenous insulin if it gets too bad. So now lets go into the ketogenic diet and how this works because this is pretty interesting. Now, initially, on the surface, we can look at the ketogenetic diet, the reduction of carbohydrates and how it would reduce our need for insulin because we don't need as much insulin because we don't have as many carbs. So I wanted to look at a couple of studies and I found one that was extremely interesting and this one breaks down the exact effect of the ketogenic diet on type two diabetes. This study was published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research Publications and it took a look at 262 people that had type two diabetes. And what they found was that when they put them on a ketogenic diet, under 30 grams of carbohydrates per day and increased fat intake, that they started to have some pretty remarkable results. Can I Do Keto & Intermittent Fasting If I am a Diabetic on Metformin and Insulin?

02:52

The answer is yes, because in both situations your sugar is high and your insulin will also be high. This is because in type 1, you're taking insulin and fluctuating be a higher high sugar state and a low blood sugar state and taking some carb to raise it. The big point is rarely does one focus on the triggers to blood sugars in the first place. This is a deeper root cause and if you could take the least amount of insulin to control blood sugars then you will receive the least amount of side effects. High insulin is a bit more dangerous than high sugars, but both are equally bad for your eyes (retina), your kidneys, your heart and blood vessels and your nerves and brain. So the top two things you need to do is reduce your carbs and do intermittent fasting. Both of these actions will greatly take the stress of the cells of the pancreas and liver and allow you to take less insulin. Get with your doctor as you manage your medications on this. Someone had a question, can I do Keto and Intermittent Fasting if I am diabetic, on Metformin and Insulin at the same time. I don’t know if this person is type 1 or type 2, chances are here type 2 going into type 1 eventually. But here’s the difference, type 1 is the problem of pancreas not producing insulin. Type 2 is more of a problem with the receptor and not receiving insulin and the feedback goes back and causes the pancreas to produce more insulin to compensate. It is a compensatory type of thing and you have high amounts of insulin. But both of these situations type 1 and type 2 have high blood sugars. Metformin makes the receptor more receptive to insulin and the insulin gives you what the pancreas is not providing in the body. But the problems is, if you are type 1, they are giving you insulin, your insulin is going to be high now because you are going to be taking insulin to control this out of control blood sugar. So in both of this conditions you have high sugar and high insulin at the same time. Now it’s more dangerous to have high insulin than it is to have high sugar, there is more problems. Sustain high levels of insulin destroys the retina, kidney, arteries and the brain. Of course high sugars will do it too but high insulin creates even more destruction. The goal is to take the least amount of insulin possible. If you are type 1 and maybe your cells are completely destroyed of any chance of recovery but we still want you to take the least amount of insulin possible so it would make sense to avoid the triggers of insulin. Unfortunately, the American Diabetes Association does not recommend what i'm gonna recommend but the needs to be more focus on the diet and the frequency of eating because reducing your carbohydrates and doing the intermittent fasting are the two things they are gonna allow the person to take the least amount of insulin. Metformin: Diabetes worst enemy

06:26
Part 2: Defending metformin (from the haters) http://youtu.be/oH_6yW_YKLA Please watch my Glycemic index video as a supplement to this http://youtu.be/wGBqEojeEDE Metformin is often times the first diabetic drug I use in new diabetics. It is inexpensive, can be used with many other diabetic drugs in combination, it can cause weight loss and has been shown to decrease cardiovascular risk and even pancreatic cancer. It can be used safely in non-diabetics, and pre-diabetics. It can cause GI side effects, so when I start someone on it, I usually give them 1000mg pills, and the goal is to take 1000mg twice a day. Start with 1/2 pill once a day at dinner, in one week, Take 1/2 pill twice a day with food, in another week, take 1/2 pill in the morning and one at dinner, Finally advance to 1 pill twice a day. Some people cannot tolerate the full dose, and have to take somewhat less of a dose. Switching to the ER version can be helpful. If you eat lots of carbs, you will have more side effects. Limiting carbs, helps to tolerate it better AND can help you to lose more weight.

4 Good Carbs to Eat for A Flat Belly

08:02
Eat carbs? For a lean, flat belly? YES! These good carbs can help your body lose fat and flatten your stomach. For more info, go here: https://yurielkaim.com/4-good-carbs/ Carbs have been demonized for years as the culprit behind fat gain (and specifically, belly fat gain). But there are certain categories of carbs – for lack of a better term we call them “good” carbs – that actually help your body get or stay lean. Some of these choices are controversial, but there’s real science behind the reason I chose them (and why I eat them). My picks for the four good carbs to eat for a flat belly: •Bananas (unripe!) •Cooked (and then cooled) potatoes •Berries •Legumes These are my favorite good carbs because they are good for your gut, which is like your body’s command center. If you want to lose weight, things have to be right in your gut. The bananas, potatoes and legumes contain resistant starch that feeds healthy bacteria in your gut, helping to heal it and soothe the digestive process. The berries are low in sugar and high in fiber. And legumes? They get an undeserved bad rap. In addition to the resistant starch, they are packed with fiber and are high in protein. Plus, they keep you feeling full for hours. How To Lower Blood Sugar Immediately

05:00
You can find Sensolin here: https://www.truthnutra.com/sensolin-yt In the next 60 seconds I'm going to show how to lower blood sugar immediately and naturally increase insulin sensitivity. So first off, let's take a look at… What is insulin? Insulin is a hormone that's produced by the pancreas, that helps turn sugars from carbohydrates to energy. It also allows the body to store glucose for future use. The muscles and liver store the sugars as glycogen, which causes muscle cells to expand. Likewise, fat cells store the sugar as triglycerides and may expand as well. Now, what is insulin sensitivity, and insulin resistance. Insulin sensitivity is how receptive the body is to the insulin it produces. When the body is properly sensitive to insulin, it uses that insulin produced and effectively removes it from the bloodstream, making energy and storing glucose for later. A healthy body is sensitive to insulin, which means it needs to make less insulin to stay healthy. Better yet, being more insulin sensitive allows the body to utilize carbohydrates properly for more energy, building muscle, and will also help the body store less fat. What's even better, is that greater insulin sensitivity is going to lead to higher T levels in men. Now what are some signs that a person might have poor insulin sensitivity? Or have developed insulin resistance? Higher insulin levels can cause weight gain, higher insulin levels can cause aging, higher insulin levels can cause reduced T, higher insulin levels increases cravings for junk foods, and also leads to blood pressure issues. With all of this in mind, for anyone who feels as though they're one of those people who is constantly riding the blood sugar roller coaster, with blood sugar all over the place, depending on what you eat, when you eat, and you get hangry and get crazy when they don't have food, For everyone who needs help with blood sugar control and needs to increase their insulin sensitivity naturally, and for the good people out there who don't want to go take drugs to achieve this, I've got 3 natural compounds to use today to simply, and quickly increase insulin sensitivity naturally and get control over those cravings once again. Now the first thing is what's known as berberine. Now berberine is an alkaloid extract taken from various plants and it's been used in traditional chinese medicine for centuries. Some of the benefits of berberine include, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic effects, improved intestinal health, improved cholesterol numbers, increased exercise performance, and decreased blood pressure. Now the recommended dosage for berberine is between 500-1500mg/day. It's also recommended to take this dosage split between 2-3 times throughout the day. Now next up, we have cinnamon ceylon oil. Cinnamon is commonly used as a spice but it's also known for its numerous biological effects on the body. The best type of cinnamon is ceylon because it has lower coumarin content. Cinnamon has a ton of benefits, including reducing the rate at which glucose enters the body, improved glucose usage in cells, lower fasting blood sugar, and improved cholesterol levels. Now the recommended dosage for daily cinnamon intake is between 1-6g per day. And the third compound, the third natural ingredient that you can consume on a daily basis is actually what's known as chromium. Chromium is an essential mineral that's consumed through your diet. It's found in plant products and grains. The benefits of chromium include, a regulation of glucose metabolism, improved insulin sensitivity, it is used to treat glucose intolerance in type 2 diabetes, leads to a great reduction in appetite, improved symptoms of depression, and a noticeable increase in libido with the right amount of chromium. Now the daily recommended dosage of chromium is between 800-1000 mcg. At this point, some of y'all are probably wondering: where do we get all these things? One option is to search around on Amazon and try to find them, but we did at Truth Nutra is that we put together a supplement known as Sensolin (hold up sensolin bottle). Sensolin is specifically designed with these three ingredients at the exact clinical dosages shown in human studies to actually work, to actually help regulate blood glucose and to help with insulin sensitivity. Now we put them all in here, it's a very simple supplement. And it actually works. What Is The Best Diet for PCOS?

04:25
For more details, click here: http://www.dietvsdisease.org/best-diet-pcos/ To subscribe to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/DietvsDiseaseOrg?sub_confirmation=1 PCOS is one of the most common hormonal disorders in the developed world. In fact, it’s thought to affect almost 7% of pre-menopausal women in the US. But there is surprisingly limited information on how to treat it naturally. That's the topic of this video. What Is The Best Diet for PCOS? PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) is a condition characterised by hormonal imbalances in women. Specifically, an imbalance in male hormones (or androgens) produced by the ovaries. Unfortunately there is no known cure yet, and the cause is unknown. However, genetic predisposition coupled with inadequate diet is thought to be a major driver. STUDY: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23420000 Research shows the most effective eating pattern for PCOS is one that promotes weight loss and reduces levels of the hormone insulin. This is because PCOS coupled with weight gain drives insulin resistance. That’s why PCOS dramatically increases risk of type 2 diabetes and other metabolic health conditions. Additionally, studies show high insulin levels appear to upset regulation of the sex hormones. This worsens PCOS in a viscous cycle. Whichever diet or eating pattern helps you to successfully lose weight and lower insulin will have the best possible outcomes. Assuming you have been unsuccessful following a low-fat diet (which can work), the best alternative is a low carb diet. A low carb diet is an eating pattern where carbs make up roughly 30% or less of your energy intake. By comparison, the average American diet is around 60% carbs. Reducing carbs tends to equal a higher protein intake, shown to keep you feeling full for longer and reduce total calories consumed through the day. That’s why low carb diets can work well for weight loss when not counting calories. A ketogenic diet, which is an extremely low carb diet, has also shown to be promising, but it's incredibly hard to stick to long-term, so mch so that I don't typically recommend it. Aside from overall eating patterns, there are some common food concerns of PCOS patients that should be clarified. One of the main issues is dairy consumption. Some observational studies have linked low-fat dairy intake with increased risk of PCOS, while others suggest full-fat dairy has a protective effect. It’s really unclear at this stage, but we cannot draw any firm conclusions from observational studies. If low-fat dairy is indeed bad for PCOS, and full fat dairy is not, it’s likely because low-fat dairy and other “diet” products tend to have significantly more sugar. In any case, dairy-free is certainly worth a try if other changes have not helped. With a wholesome diet, dairy is not essential. There have also been some concerns with soy and PCOS, but again there isn’t much evidence to go by. It seems moderate soy consumption is likely safe, but at the same time it seems an unnecessary risk to eat a lot or increase your intake. STUDY: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21793705 Several studies indicate those with PCOS tend to have high levels of a compound in the blood called homocysteine. High levels are thought to be an independent risk factor for heart disease and stroke The most efficient way to reduce homocysteine is by increasing folate or folic acid intake, which are forms of vitamin b9. Folate comes from whole foods, while folic acid is the synthetic version. The top folate sources per 100-gram serve are beans and lentils, raw spinach, asparagus, and romaine (cos) lettuce. Lastly, you must Limit Junk Food and Added Sugars, which are a nightmare for treating PCOS. They’re typically high in calories and added sugars, which can raise insulin levels and disrupt other hormones. Know that treating PCOS also involves reducing chronic stress, increasing physical activity levels and getting adequate sleep. All these factors greatly influence our hormones, and in the end PCOS is a hormonal problem. Dietitian: Joe Leech (MSc Nutrition)

It is about the time that you are not eating. 31:24 Insulin inhibits lipolysis, stopping you from burning fat. 32:24 On a 7 day water only fast, your insulin falls and you switch from burning food to burning fat. 33:13 During fasting, as your insulin falls, you get a counter-regulatory hormone surge, increasing adrenaline, noradrenaline, growth hormone and cortisol. 33:53 There is a period of gluconeogenesis at around 24 hours into fasting. You will burn protein, not muscle. 35:40 If the old protein is never broken down, you cannot build new protein. 37:26 You get much better retention of lean mass with an intermittent fasting strategy over cutting calories. 38:24 Biggest Loser style diets sink metabolic rates. 42:15 Women can fast. Ghrelin is the hunger hormone. Women have higher ghrelin spikes. 43:01 If you don't eat over 24 hours ghrelin spikes 3 times, at breakfast, lunch and dinner, then drops. Hunger does not continue to increase. 45:04 Cravings disappear with fasting and keto. 49:38 You can eat high carb foods and keep low insulin. 51:09 Sugar is more fattening than other carbohydrates. 53:51 Natural foods have natural satiety mechanisms. 01:08:31 Type 2 diabetes is misunderstood by doctors. 01:10:08 Blood glucose is a symptom of type 2 diabetes. We treat the symptom, not the disease. 01:12:15 Type 2 diabetes is reversible, except for the very late stage. 01:16:42 The longer you've been overweight the more it effects weight loss. 01:18:08 There are conflicts of interest in medicine. Much evidence is produced by pharmaceutical companies. Universities take funding from industry and produce shoddy research. 01:30:21 Bias in nutrition science is rampant and has stymied the advancement of actual science. Special interest needs to be out of research.

How to lose weight with Metformin: Pt2: PCOS, non diabetics: Expectations - lifestyle/diet, science

Please watch: "(905) Mitochondria: Central Role in Aging 2018 (and how to reverse it)( warning - geeky)- FORD BREWER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTKM0Lh078A --~-- Join the PrevMed Community: https://mailchi.mp/1224fb9e00e7/prevmed_community Ford Brewer MD MPH at PrevMedHeartRisk.com I had a viewer ask why she's had no weight loss after 2 weeks. That raises the question about expectations. Metformin appears to change the gut biome over about a month. The bacteria in the biome impact the appetite after about a month. But decreased appetite alone will not create weight loss. In fact, even with metformin, weight loss requires total lifestyle change. And patience. I recommend a low carb, plant-based diet for those that can use it. It has a positive impact on glucose fluctuation, hunger, and the hunger hormone ghrelin. Intermittent fasting and mimicked fasting change the addictive relationship we develop with food after eating 3 times/day for decades. Mimicked fasting also seems to have a positive impact on transcription and expression of genes critical to glucose metabolism. Even with the correct dietary changes, exercise is a critical part of weight loss. Resistance training and high intensity interval training (HIIT) are creating the best results in this area. But I wouldn't leave out endurance training for long-term energy burning capacity. There is a lot of lay press buzz about our gut biome (bacteria) has a big impact on hunger, and the amount we eat. The science behind this is growing quickly. It also happens that the science behind gut biome changes with Metformin is growing as well. In fact, there is a clear scientific case to be made that metformin actually has both a glucose metabolism effect and a weight loss effect by changing the gut biome. It decreases bacteroides species. And it increases e coli as well as Akkermansia species. This actually provide a helpful tip: if you:re not getting an impact from immediate release metformin, try the Extended Release. The Extended Release appears to have more of a gut-related impact than liver. About Dr. Brewer - Ford Brewer is a physician that started as an Emergency Doctor. Spiking your insulin to often by eating foods with lots of high glycemic carbs will eventually lead to insulin resistance and make you fat. Interesting fact about insulin: Did you know that when you're insulin resistant about 85% of the carbs you eat will go to your FAT stores vs 85% going to your muscle stores when you're insulin sensitive. You can improve insulin sensitivity by doing some simple things: 1. Working out on a regular basis will dramatically improve insulin sensitivity. 2. Eliminating most processed foods, and eating a diet higher in protein in fats, and less carb. When you eat carbs make sure they are low glycemic and have lots of fiber. 3. Drugs (medication) that Raise Blood Sugar Levels

13:44
List of drugs that raise blood sugar. This information can come in handy in case you have high blood sugar and you are not sure what is causing it. Download Diabetes Diet eBook: https://goo.gl/UC5SZU We all get sick from time to time. We all have been given prescriptions other than our metformin or insulin. But did you know some medications can raise your blood sugar? I am confident that somewhere in that plethora of literature that accompanies most prescriptions is information that says that the drug will affect blood sugar. But how many of us actually read all that literature? Today I want to talk about common drugs that can raise your blood sugar. This list was compiled after researching the work of Mark T. Marino, MD. The list: Corticosteroids Thiazide diuretics Beta-blockers Niacin Antipsychotic drugs Striking a balance There is a longer list of drugs associated with diabetes, but the evidence for each of these is not very strong, or the medicine is only used rarely. For the more commonly used drugs that are known to worsen diabetes control, it is important to note that there remains a balance between intended benefits and unwanted side effects. Glucocorticoids can stop an inflammatory process like asthma, thiazide diuretics have been shown to be very successful at reducing high blood pressure and its complications, beta-blockers do protect against heart attacks, niacin does reduce coronary artery disease, and antipsychotic medicines can make the difference between hallucinating and perceiving reality. If you suspect that your blood glucose control may be adversely affected by a medicine you’re taking, speak with your health-care provider before making any changes. There may be an overall benefit to remaining on a drug that slightly increases blood glucose in some cases, or there may be alternatives that can be substituted. Unfortunately, no medicine is without its drawbacks, but by knowing what these drawbacks are, you can participate in an informed discussion with your health-care provider about the specific risks and benefits of a drug in your unique situation.

PrevMedHeartRisk.com A viewer asked about metformin and weight loss. John L mentioned low carb diet. There are endocrine reasons for a low-carb diet. Not only does it not stop fat burning. It also doesn't trigger ghrelin. Ghrelin is the hunger hormone. So, again, I think this is some of the clearer evidence about low carb diets. They don't stimulate the hunger hormone Ghrelin. And they don't stimulate adrenal hormones, like cortisol and DHEA. About Dr. Brewer - Ford Brewer is a physician that started as an Emergency Doctor. What is The Best Diet For Prediabetes?

09:02
If you want to learn about diabetes management get our guide here https://goo.gl/RLEhha Despite all the publicity surrounding new research and new nutrition guidelines, some people with diabetes still believe that there is something called a "diabetic diet." For some, this so-called diet consists of avoiding sugar, while others believe it to be a strict way of eating that controls glucose. Unfortunately, neither are quite right. The "diabetes diet" is not something that people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes should be following. "That just simply isn't how meal planning works today for patients with diabetes," says Amy Campbell, MS, RD, LDN, CDE, a nutritionist at Joslin and co-author of 16 Myths of a Diabetic Diet. "The important message is that with proper education and within the context of healthy eating, a person with diabetes can eat anything a person without diabetes eats," Campbell states. What's the truth about diabetes and diet? We know now that it is okay for people with diabetes to substitute sugar-containing food for other carbohydrates as part of a balanced meal plan. Prevailing beliefs up to the mid-1990s were that people with diabetes should avoid foods that contain so-called "simple" sugars and replace them with "complex" carbohydrates, such as those found in potatoes and cereals. A review of the research at that time revealed that there was relatively little scientific evidence to support the theory that simple sugars are more rapidly digested and absorbed than starches, and therefore more apt to produce high blood glucose levels. Now many patients are being taught to focus on how many total grams of carbohydrate they can eat throughout the day at each meal and snack, and still keep their blood glucose under good control. Well-controlled blood glucose is a top priority because other research studies have concluded that all people with diabetes can cut their risk of developing diabetes complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney and eye disease, nerve damage, and more, by keeping their blood glucose as closely controlled as possible. What does this mean for people with diabetes? This means that a person who has worked with a dietitian and a diabetes treatment team to figure out how many grams of carbohydrate they can eat throughout the day can decide at any given meal what they will eat. Those with diabetes who are not on insulin need to focus on keeping the amount of carbohydrate they eat consistent throughout the day. Those on insulin can decide both what and how much to eat at a given meal (as long as it doesn't exceed their daily allotment), and can then adjust their insulin accordingly. "There aren't any foods that are 'off-limits,'" says Campbell. "Rather , one just needs to learn how to spend his or her grams of carbohydrate wisely over the course of the day." Frequent home blood glucose monitoring is then used to keep track of the effects of meals and activity levels on their blood glucose. They work with their healthcare team to make adjustments in their food intake, physical activity, and medication to keep their blood glucose as close to normal as possible. How does carbohydrate counting work? Most foods--except meat and fat--contain some carbohydrate, and carbohydrate increases blood glucose faster than any other food. The number of grams of carbohydrate that a person can eat each day or at each meal is determined by: - Weight and weight loss goals - How physically active an individual is (because physical activity will lower their blood glucose) - What diabetes medication or insulin they are taking, and when - Other factors such as age or the presence of high blood fats (or any other medical issue, for that matter) For example, a 6' 2" tall man with diabetes who weighs 180 pounds and wants to maintain his current weight might be told he could eat 350 grams of carbohydrate spread out over the day. His goal would be to spread those grams out over the course of the day so that he doesn't send his blood glucose too high at any one time. If he is taking insulin or oral diabetes medication, he might also have to manage when he eats his carbohydrate in such a way that there is enough sugar from his meals in his bloodstream when his medication is working its hardest.

Mind Pump on Protein Cycling & Carbs in Context

Mind Pump's Adam Schafer and Sal Di Stefano dropped some serious knowledge about why variation in your nutrition and workouts is key to health and aesthetics. ➢ Connect with Sal and Adam: www.mindpumpmedia.com -----------------------------------------Lets Connect-------------------------------------- ➢ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MikeMutzelMS ➢ Listen to the Audio in iTunes: http://highintensityhealth.com/itunes ➢ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/metabolic_mike --------------------------------------Key Takeaways---------------------------------- 06:19 Professional body builders, physique pros and women’s bikini athletes very often have disorders. These are often the models you see on magazine covers. 07:52 If you look at food and say “That’s going to make me fat” or “make me skinny” or you cannot part with some kind of food or beverage for your health, that is a poor relationship with food. 14:18 Adam uses a cyclical ketogenic diet. It is a low carb diet with intermittent high carb days. 16:28 Our ancestors had varied diets: high carb, high fat, vegan, or high protein. They ate seasonally. If you eat something in a particular way for a long period, your body becomes desensitized to it, as with insulin resistance/carbs. 20:32 Adam’s first step in teaching a client about nutrition is to have him/her track with they eat. Elimination diet can be illustrative. 25:49 When we fast, we have an increase in cell apoptosis, naturally occurring programmed cell death and stimulates stem cells. With the reintroduction of food, new cells are built. 27:05 The overconsumption of protein may be as bad as the overconsumption of carbohydrates. 29:26 The average American is sedentary, moving less than 4,000 steps a day. 30:26 Gut health and the microbiome impact how you think. Chemicals found in foods were not tested for how they impact the microbiome. 31:53 When you are in optimal health, your body that will be most resilient and adaptive. Building muscle and burning body fat are forms of adaptation that happen because of a stressor. 34:18 Don’t lose weight to become healthy. Become healthy to lose weight. 35:44 Sal and Adam found when fasting, they found that they did not lose muscle, they felt better and, when they did eat, they built more muscle. 43:49 Resistance training signals your body that it is okay to burn more calories a rest. You teach your body to prioritize muscle tissue, mitochondrial density, strength and performance. 47:06 Our ancestors were in and out of ketosis all the time because of fasting caused by an inconsistent food supply. Without occasional ketosis long term, we experience desensitization to insulin and oxidative stress. 48:07 For long low intensity endurance activities ketosis is superior. Even a lean athlete will store 30,000 calories in the form of fats and ketones and at most 6,000 calories of glycogen.

7.2 - Fasting Blood Sugar on Thursday, Nov 23 2017

02:14
7.2 - Fasting Blood Sugar on Thursday, Nov 23 2017 Almost normalised just by going back to eating carbs to trigger insulin production (from Sunday Nov 19). I need to titrate my metformin and glicazide doses now. I don’t have diabetes, I just had high blood glucose level due to non-insulin production as I didn’t take any carbs at all for a month starting in September. Low Carb High Fat Diet is not Zero Carb High Fat Diet, as I found out the hard way. Carbohydrate (5-7% of daily caloric intake) is necessary to trigger insulin production. “Diabetes is a state of carbohydrate toxicity.” If you are into understanding things from first principles, this is a “must watch” video: https://youtu.be/da1vvigy5tQ

Low-Carb Diet & Type 2 Diabetes

04:56
Over the past several years, we've seen the rates of type 2 diabetes in the United States absolutely skyrocket. At this stage, there's no doubt about it: lifestyle choices are playing a key role in causing this problem.  As far as I'm concerned, this is a threat to our collective health not only because of the harmful role diabetes can play in the body, but because of the myriad ailments that tend to be correlated with diabetes and its impacts elsewhere in the body, from the kidneys to the brain. For instance, did you know that type 2 diabetics may have as much as a 4x increase in risk for becoming a patient with Alzheimer's? All of this in mind, let's look at what lifestyle choices can do to improve the healthspan of type 2 diabetics.

Now, they’re good for your heart and blood sugar because they reduce inflammation and blood sugar - even when eaten with carbs such as white rice.2-5 3 - Nuts Raw nuts taste great and are good for you. They’re high in fiber, very low in carbs and contain healthy, essential fats.6-8 All of this helps reduce inflammation and lower blood sugar, A1C and Cholesterol levels. 4 - Extra-Virgin Olive Oil Extra-virgin olive oil is extremely beneficial for heart health and blood sugar. It contains oleic acid… This is a type of monounsaturated fat that has been shown to improve triglycerides and HDL, which are often at unhealthy levels in type 2 diabetes. It also increase the fullness hormone, GLP-1.9 This reduces your cravings, especially for sugars. 5 - Seeds Raw seeds such as flax, sunflower, pumpkin, hemp and sesame seeds have lots of health benefits. They’re very high in fiber and full of amazing minerals and vitamins. They’re proven to help Decrease your risk for heart disease 10 Improve your blood sugar levels 11 Reduce your A1C levels 11 Improve blood flow and circulation 12 6 - Apple Cider Vinegar Apple cider vinegar has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and lower fasting blood sugar levels. It may also reduce blood sugar response by as much as 20% when consumed with meals containing carbs. 13-15 7 - Berries Most people are told not to have sugar, especially fructose which is the sugar found in fruit. To a certain degree, this is correct. So those are the 7 foods clinically proven to lower your blood sugar. However, there’s one category even more powerful... Herbs, Plants & Extracts Even though today’s topic is about food… there are specific plants, herbs, spices and extracts which can have dramatically positive effects on your blood sugar -- much more than food. And if you want the truth, plants and herbs are food and probably one the most important categories of food. And specific plants, herbs and extracts can have drug-like results, but without any of the negative side-effects. Which, shouldn’t be surprising because most drugs, well over 50%, are actually based on plants and herbs found in nature. The pharmaceutical companies change the original structure, patent them and make billions. Unfortunately, in the process of changing the natural structure, they also create side-effects. Anyway, my favorite are Bitter Melon, Gymnema Sylvestre, Fenugreek, Banaba Leaf and Cinnamon Extract.18-21 ======================================== ======================================== Thank you for watching. What I eat: restaurant food: Gaining weight on a Low carb diet- FORD BREWER MD MPH

Please watch: "(905) Mitochondria: Central Role in Aging 2018 (and how to reverse it)( warning - geeky)- FORD BREWER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTKM0Lh078A --~-- Join the PrevMed Community: https://mailchi.mp/1224fb9e00e7/prevmed_community FORD BREWER MD MPH PrevMedHeartRisk.com To prevent disability, heart attack, stroke, dementia - visit my Youtube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmoEsq6a6ePXxgZeA4CVrUw?view_as=subscriber Or the PrevMed web site at https://prevmedheartrisk.com/ I actually gained 10 pounds on a low carb diet. I come from a family with a bad family culture around food. My father was my height (5'10") and at times over 350 pounds. There were other problems with my family food culture. I have my own personal issues. My birth weight was 10.5 pounds. And my own peak weight was 185 pounds. I was plant-based for 30 years. However, during most of that time, I ate A LOT of plant carb sources, like grains, carrots, and juices. Based on that background, I developed a "license to eat" over the past 6-12 months. After a couple of years of a 6/1 intermittent fasting, and adding low carb, then Mimicked Fasting - I struggled to keep my weight up to 150 pounds. After having a couple of hypoglycemic episodes, I relaxed several of my food limits. I added some things I've never ate before, like garnishes with cheese and even bacon. I porked up quickly. Then after gaining 10 pounds, I confirmed what I'd suspected for years: I have atrial fib. As we get older, it's hard maintaining low blood sugars and balancing that against hypoglycemic episodes. One way to do that is stopping meds, like Metformin. I have stopped metformin when I go through caloric restriction episodes now. They told me to do that. I ignored it at my own peril. I also go through a few rules for eating out at restaurants, like: 1. limit myself to salads, salmon and egg white omelets; and 2. there are A LOT of foods served by restaurants that you just can't eat. About Dr. Brewer - Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many patients coming in dead from early heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. He went on to run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine at Hopkins. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has over 500 primary care/ prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, stroke, and diabetes prevention clinic. At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, disability, cancer and Alzheimer's prevention. We find a lot of undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes. Treating unrecognized risk factors like diabetes allows reduction of risk. We provide state-of-the-art genetic testing, imaging, labs and telemedicine options. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those have not developed a diagnosis or event. Our team of senior clinicians includes internationally recognized leaders in the research and treatment of cardiovascular disease, preventive medicine and wellness. We also provide preventive medicine by telemedicine technology to over 30 states. Contact Dr. Brewer at info@prevmedheartrisk.com or visit http://prevmedheartrisk.com.
