Syria's civil war has created a staggering number of refugees - more than five million. Syrians that were able to start a new life in other countries are just beginning a difficult journey. But traumatic events, memories of atrocities, and separation from family and friends has led to an unprecedented amount of people at risk of mental trauma and myriad mental health issues. Turkey has the biggest population of Syrian refugees, with over 3 million living there. The government reports that 55 percent of those people need psychological services. Lebanon hosts about 1 million refugees. And in Germany, which has taken the most refugees in Europe, 268,866 Syrians are adjusting to a new way of life. There, a recent study estimated that half of them had mental health issues and that 50 percent had been victims of violence. Refugees who suffer with mental health issues share many of the same afflictions. A large number suffer psychological damage because of things that happened to them during the war, and many others because of life-threatening journeys to escape. Some of the most common problems are emotional disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and various anxiety disorders. But mental health professionals say that may be just the tip of the iceberg. The logistics required to evaluate and treat such a huge number of refugees are daunting. Mental health can take a backseat while other seemingly more pressing issues like housing, learning a new language, and day-to-day survival are the focus. Seeking treatment, especially among men, is often stigmatised in Syrian culture. So, are refugees receiving adequate services for their mental health needs? More than half of the Syrian population have been forcibly displaced. Salma fled with her children and brother-in-law from outside Damascus in Syria, south to Daraa, then crossed the border into Jordan. After a brief stay in Zaatari refugee camp, she moved to Irbid. "I was displaying strength in front of my children, but on the inside, I was really tired," she says. For some women and girls forced from their homes, it's possible to find at least relative safety compared to what they've left. However they often face ongoing stresses due to the legacy of violence and the pressures of adjusting to a new environment. Women will often prioritize the needs of their family before their own. In Jordan, for example, many Syrian women need to draw on all their inner resources to shoulder complex responsibilities. Some have lost their husbands and may be struggling to support their family financially or to raise their children as the sole parent. Typically, as in Salma's case, it is their children’s suffering that brings them to seek care. In Jordan, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides mental health care to children and their mothers in Irbid and Mafraq. An all-female counseling team shares tools to help women understand what’s going on and how to respond in an effective way. Equipped with a new sense of strength, displaced women and their families can start seeking to thrive instead of just survive. Josh Sigurdson reports on declassified CIA documents from the 1980s showing an elaborate plot to overthrow Assad Sr. and to cause civil uprising and violence in the country in order to install a puppet leader to benefit the United States military industrial complex. We've long theorized about this, but thanks to some sleuths in media, we have a comprehensive stack of evidence to prove the theories to be just what we thought for so long...fact. One document called "Bringing Real Muscle To Bear In Syria" from 1983 talks about "covertly orchestrating simultaneous military threats against Syria from three border states hostile to Syria: Iraq, Israel and Turkey." A 1986 document called "Syria: Scenarios of Dramatic Political Change" goes further in depth as to how the destabilization of Syria must be done including staging coups against the government and causing uprising of Sunnis against Alawis. It literally gives a step by step guide on how to create a problem, get a reaction and then apply a solution which would be a puppet government with the United States reaping the benefits of such a puppet government. Without explicitly saying "false flags", the documents most definitely examine the possibility. These documents show a long time push by the United States to take over the middle east and fabricate problems in order to get the "go-ahead" to invade. Even talking about major attacks in public squares. Sound familiar? Much of the plans mapped out in these declassified documents were implemented during the Arab Spring. Then the rest of the script has fallen right into their hands. The instability with Russia is a big factor. Diplomats kicked out of the United States. Obama and Hillary talking about no-fly zones in Syria. Then later on, under the Trump administration, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Ambassador Nikki Haley said their priority is not to overthrow Assad and even spoke of possibly working with him. Well that changed quickly. The media and government wants us to believe that days after being let off the hook, Assad for absolutely no reason used sarin gas on his own people, mostly children. Basically begging the emotionally triggered US public to invade. Well, they followed suit and Trump ordered the attack on the air base in Syria, nearly hitting Russia. Everything has escalated from there, including a coalition of Russia, China, Iran and other countries against the US as Russia threatens the United States with military retaliation in Syria. This has indeed become a global conflict. Just as the CIA had hoped for. Stay tuned for more from WAM! Interview with Ruth Wells - lead author on new paper on mental health of Syrian Refugees published in the British Journal of Psychiatry - From the introduction in the paper: The United Nations (UN) has labelled the current Syrian conflict as the worst humanitarian crisis that has occurred within the first part of the 21st century. It is estimated that there are in excess of 4 million displaced Syrian refugees in the Middle East and over 629 000 who have been displaced to Jordan, the focus of this review. Although many displaced Syrians live in refugee camps, the largest being Za’atari camp which is home to over 120 000 people, the vast majority live in the host community. In Jordan, people from Syria have limited access to work permits and are often required to work in the informal sector to secure livelihood. Those registered with the UN are eligible to access some cash assistance, food vouchers and education and health systems, although the health system has struggled to keep up with demand. Stressors inherent in forced displacement,5 combined with exposure to potentially traumatic events (PTEs) during conflict, are likely to contribute to the development of heightened mental health difficulties in such settings. The report by Save the Children says Syria’s mental health crisis has reached a tipping point, where QUOTE staggering levels of psychological trauma can cause irreversible damage. According to the study, more than 70 percent of those interviewed said children went through toxic stress or post-traumatic disorder, such as bedwetting. Loss of speech, aggression, and substance abuse were also reported. Sixty percent of the interviewed adolescents expressed concern over their children’s loss of education. According to the UNICEF, there have been more than four-thousand attacks on schools in Syria since the war began. The study focused on almost 460 children, adolescents, and adults, and was undertaken between December 20-16 and February 20-17. The escalating war in Syria has brought with it the significant deterioration of all aspects of life for its citizens, particularly in the area of psychosocial factors. It had also been noticed that there was an acute shortage of organized mental health professionals; these two factors were the catalyst for the formation of the Syrian Association for Mental Health (SAMH). SAMH is an independent Syrian association for psychiatrists, psychologists and clinical social workers.

Syrian government forces fell victim to an alleged chemical weapons attack by Syrian opposition militants in Aleppo on Sunday, footage released on Monday shows. According to a military hospital doctor, about 28 people were taken in for treatment after inhaling toxic gases. He said, "many of them have stricken respiratory systems, severe coughing, tearing, expectoration, mental disorders, fear and general tiredness." Injured soldier (Arabic): "Today we faced a group of terrorists, they used a poisonous substance, this is something new. This was the first time they used it against us. The whole body hurts very much. I could absolutely not breathe at first. All the muscles were strongly cramped up. I was paralysed and could not move, I was motionless. That was some new substance, I do not know what type." Injured soldier (Arabic): "I participated in the operation in the Karam al-Tarrab district. When we captured most of the territory of the district, the poison gas was used against us, most of our soldiers were hit by this gas." Doctor (Arabic): "Today in the evening, on November 13, a large number of military servicemen - about 28 people - suffocating from inhaling toxic gases were taken to our military hospital in Aleppo. Many of them have stricken respiratory system, severe coughing, tearing, expectoration, mental disorders, fear and general tiredness. Most affections are of mild and moderate severity. All the necessary medical measures were taken, the actions with injured soldiers were carried out. Most of the wounded are still in hospital for further monitoring. We think that chlorine gas was used going by the symptoms. But we will further investigate to determine precisely the used poisonous substance." In this MHPSS.net webinar, Marcia Brophy and Yasmin Odeh will explore the very recent publication “Invisible Wounds: The impact of six years of war on the mental health of Syria’s children“. “Invisible Wounds: The impact of six years of war on the mental health of Syria’s children – is considered the largest and most comprehensive study of its kind undertaken within Syria into children’s mental health and wellbeing during the war, and the webinar will look at what can constructively be done to support the mental health needs of these children now and in the future. Marcia Brophy will present on Save the Children’s latest MHPSS report “Invisible Wounds: The impact of six years of war on the mental health of Syria’s children”, and on previous research conducted in Syria. Yassmin Odeh will present on Save the Children’s MHPSS program activities across Syria, with particular consideration of southern Syria where she leads the organisation’s work in this field, as well as examining the daily challenges of working in this difficult and complex context. India is currently suffering a mental health crisis. With only 43 government-run mental hospitals serving a population of 1.2 billion, resources are spread thin. What's more, mental illness is highly stigmatized in India, especially among women, who are typically committed to mental health facilities with no legal rights, receiving involuntary treatment, and sometimes without a proper diagnosis. VICE News travels to Maharashtra to investigate what it’s like to be deemed a woman with mental illness in India today. What children see in war often leaves a deep psychological impact. It is no different with the war in Syria. But one project in Turkey is helping the youngest victims of the conflict heal. Al Jazeera's Omar Al Saleh reports from Narlica near the Turkey-Syria border.

Mental Health Matters, we really need to start talking about it a lot more. I made this video on Oxford Street to show you that whatever it is you are going through people on the same road, around you, and in your area are going through similar things. Keeping a mental state of mind can be extremely difficult, and therefore it really is ok not to be ok. We need to work together as humans, friends, families, neighbours, to find therapeutic treatments and cures to help aid us through difficult times and NOT tell people to 'shrug it off'. I will be speaking on Mental Health & Humanity at the One Young World Summit this November in Thailand. ►Remember hit like if you enjoyed this video ►Subscribe ►Comment below with what videos you want to see Subscribe (it doesn't cost you): www.YouTube.com/HussainsHouse Instagram: Hussains_House Facebook: www.Facebook.com/Hussain.Manawer Twitter (Follow the mandem): @HussainsHouse No Copyright Intended.

Ibrahim*, seven, lives in Al Hol Camp, Hasakah Governorate, Syria. Save the Children runs a Child Friendly Space in Al Hol Camp, where children who have fled conflict affected areas can take part in activities like drawing, sports and music. His father, Hisham* is a school teacher from Deir Ezzour in Syria and arrived in Al Hol Camp in Hassakeh Governorate, with his wife and five children on 10 February 2017. The journey took them 23 days from Deir Ezzour to Al Hol Camp. Hisham* wanted to leave Deir Ezzour, which is controlled by ISIS, earlier, but he could not travel because his mother was sick, disabled and elderly. Once she passed away he decided to take his family and flee to Hassekeh. A new report by Save the Children has revealed a mental health crisis among children trapped in Syria, as the war approaches the six year mark.
