Treasured Chest: Supporting Women Diagnosed With Breast Cancer Through Art And Community
Diagnosed women will likely face dramatic changes, both physical and emotional, on their breast cancer journey. Through the Keep A Breast and Young Survival Coalition’s Treasured Chest Program, we give any woman diagnosed with breast cancer an opportunity to document her body and feelings, by turning her casted torso into a beautiful work of art. These unique pieces, The Keep A Breast Foundation Breast Casts™, are one-of-a-kind plaster forms that combine sculpture, charity, and artistry. They communicate complex emotions about breast health and the female form, allowing the castee to capture a specific point in her breast cancer journey. We've always believed that art heals and transforms lives! It's our goal to continue to directly support women diagnosed with breast cancer for the next 15 years but we can't do it without you! Keep A Breast is celebrating 15 years of loving and supporting boobies! Help us continue to directly support women diagnosed with breast cancer by becoming a $15 monthly donor! Breast Cancer Walk 2018: Honoring our Ancestors and Supporting Survivors of Breast Cancer
As your Host of Healthy Living and Healing, I want to bring attention to the Male population that about 1% of the male population will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It's RARE-However, men do get Breast Cancer. Unlike women who get diagnosed with early-stage Breast Cancer and have a greater chance of surviving due to early detection, MEN who are diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer have a greater Risk of Dying than Surviving. I am urging All women and Men to get the 3-D Mammography Breast Cancer Imaging done yearly. During a general wellness check-up-KNOW YOUR NUMBERS ON EVERYTHING. Please, also visit sites that will allow you to make Breast Cancer donations, not only for the continuing effort to find a cure but more importantly, sites that allow your donation to pay for someone less fortunate than YOU to have a 3-D Mammography done. *ww5.komen.org *www.thepennyhoarder.com (for free to lost cost mammograms) *www.verywellhealth.com (Where to find Low-Cost or Free Mammograms) *www.communityhealthok.org

Supporting a Breast Cancer Patient in Need
Mercedes Alvarez had breast cancer but couldn't afford needed diagnostic services and treatments. She found financial help through the Boulder Community Hospital Foundation and the BCH Ambassadors. "They told us that the financial side of things should be the least of our considerations. We needed to worry about treating the cancer and not worry about what was going to happen to us financially because of the cancer," said Greg Bowles, Mercedes' husband.

Texans Race in Stiletto Stampede for Breast Cancer
Teetering on high heels, hundreds of runners join the annual Stiletto Stampede to raise awareness for breast cancer. Men also joined the race in posh pumps. Full story: If you see a stampede of women in pink racing down the street in high-heels, don't worry, it's all for a good cause. Ladies in Austin, Texas strapped on their stilettos to raise awareness for breast cancer. A cause that was very dear to one competitor's heart. [Nancy, Stiletto Stampede Participant]: "I come to support. My aunt passed away a few years ago from breast cancer, so this is one way of contributing back to hopefully finding a cure and just supporting all those who do have it, who can survive from it." Women who raced the 91 meter dash, managed not to take any serious stumbles. And even the men surprised spectators with their support, making their way down the track in some pretty posh pumps. All the proceeds from Austin's Stiletto Stampede will go to local breast cancer organizations in Texas. Women Supporting MGTOW
"Dear Sandman, I am a 25 year old, non religious, Western born and bred woman of Middle Eastern descent and have spent several days binge-watching many of your videos -- and I must say, I fully support and sympathize with the MGTOW movement. I honestly don't blame men for going their own way, I see way too many good men become dehumanized and exploited/mistreated by women and our legal systems here in the West. It baffles my mind that many women are willing to destroy the life of a man, by taking half of his assets and future earnings as alimony without feeling any guilt or remorse. I hate how women are socially conditioned to be princesses while men are knights in shining armors there to "rescue" us. I was always taught me that if I want something, I should work for it and never rely on any man except my father (when I need to) because it is his duty (in my culture) to look after me. Nonetheless, I always find it awkward to ask people for any help. When I was growing up I never asked my parents for money and I still find it uncomfortable when a man pays the bill on a date, I prefer we either pay for ourselves or split the bill. I have also recognize that any success I have ever achieved in my life is thanks to a man, in this case my father. I wouldn't be who I am if it wasn't for my dad -- he brought me up with altruism, good morals, honesty, integrity etc not to mention, he paid for my education so I would remain debt-free and paid for half of my car. I have always known that all post suffragist-era feminism was never seeking the best interests of women, but was backed by the CIA and Rockefeller foundation in a big conspiracy to tax the female half of the population and to destroy the family unit as well as keep an on-going war of the sexes. Third wave feminism is simply about arguing that gender is a social construction, which it's not. men are providers, leaders, protectors and women are mothers, nurturers and are supposed to help establish the home and build the morals/values of the family. We simply cannot use pseudo-science to argue with biology. I absolutely hate how the mainstream media paints all Middle Eastern women as "oppressed". While oppression against women still exists in the Middle East, much of it exists in mainly rural and tribal areas. 90% of marriages back home are arranged and often the first question the women ask when a man has proposed to her is how much money he makes, what he studied..etc. Many urbanized Middle Eastern women from highly educated, middle class and affluent family backgrounds have the upper hand and their men are subservient to them. My family is good example of this. My mother and her sisters are very much pampered princesses -- they all had a university education and careers prior to getting married. As soon as they got married they gave up their careers and became housewives. 10 pictures paid for and licensed through BigStock.com (In order of appearance) 1. Saving Jack: A Mans Struggle with Breast Cancer - Book Video
http://www.oupress.com It isn't just a woman's disease: few men stop to consider it, but one in a thousand males contracts breast cancer. SAVING JACK is a moving first-person account of a mans experience with breast cancer. In a tale of challenge and adversity, Jack Willis relates his personal experience, from first feeling a pea-sized nodule in his breast to being diagnosed, from mastectomy and chemotherapy treatments to positive prognosis. And in telling candidly of his struggles, he conveys his renewed appreciation of life. While there is no shortage of books devoted to helping women with breast cancer, this is the first to address the apprehensions faced by men who contract the disease. As he describes the physical and emotional roller coaster on which he suddenly found himself, Willis shares with readers—especially other new cancer victims—some of the things he and his family didnt know about cancer when he was diagnosed. In a compelling story of faith, fear, and sometimes just getting through one long day of chemo, Willis shows that cancer is a family disease, affecting spouses and children as well as victims. For anyone whose family has been devastated by this frightening diagnosis, SAVING JACK offers a ray of hope—and for men who face this unexpected disease, it offers a much needed source of strength. Surviving Breast Cancer on the Mid-Shore with Lori Yates
Breast cancer research and treatment has changed dramatically since Easton's Lori Yates learned thirteen years ago that she had stage III of the disease. More than a decade later, exceptional progress has been made in early detections and higher survival rates. But one thing that hasn't changed is the difficult range of decisions women (and some men) must made on the course of their treatment. As Lori points out in her Spy interview, the experience of having to make those choices, while at the same time balancing the day to day aspects of family and work life, was a daunting task for her. And yet, there were also moments of empowerment by fully engaging in her treatment strategies as well as experiencing a special form gratitude that comes to those who have made this challenging journey and survived. That sense of gratitude led Lori to become the Eastern Shore representative for the Susan G. Komen Maryland organization. Komen is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. Since 2010, Yates has worked to bring local breast cancer support services to the Eastern Shore, including co-organizing the Mosaic Mural Project for breast cancer survivors, chairing the annual Oxford Day 10K event helped to establish the Mid-Shore chapter of Women Supporting Women (now operating as Bosom Buddies Support Services).

Metastatic Breast Cancer Project: Patient-Driven Research
The Metastatic Breast Cancer Project: Patient-Driven Research The Metastatic Breast Cancer Project (MBCProject.org) is a nationwide research study that uses social media and advocacy partnerships to engage patients with metastatic breast cancer - and empowers them to accelerate cancer research by sharing their samples, their clinical information, and their voices. By partnering directly with individuals who otherwise might never have the opportunity to contribute to research, the MBC Project is democratizing research and accelerating the pace of discovery. Of the 200,000 women and men diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. each year, an estimated 20-30% will develop metastatic breast cancer. And although progress has been made in treating breast cancer, there is currently no cure for metastatic breast cancer, with more than 40,000 patients dying from the disease in the U.S. each year. The MBC Project seeks to transform the understanding of metastatic breast cancer by studying tumor samples and medical records from patients and using those insights to make discoveries that could lead to new treatments. Since our launch in October 2015, over 2,800 women and men with metastatic breast cancer from all 50 states and multiple countries have joined the study. The project was designed and implemented with the input of dozens of metastatic breast cancer patients, advocates, and advocacy organizations - and continues to actively engage the metastatic breast cancer community at every step. Patients are partners in this effort, helping to impact the growth of the project to reach more patients with metastatic breast cancer. Carpool Karaoke - Music and Breast Cancer Awareness
Stage2 male breast cancer survivor Michael Catherwood sings "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show in this version of carpool karaoke, which included oncologist Dr. Stephen Lemon and singer Kiana Meradith, who lent her fine guitar and vocal skills to the ride along. A faculty member at Creighton University, Mike shares what it was like to go through breast cancer as a male. He also emphasizes the importance of breast cancer awareness as a disease that affects men too. Visit http://www.oacancer.com/carpool to see other cancer survivors sing their #CarpoolKaraoke songs. Research shows that music has a place in not only helping patients cope with pain, but also providing physical and mental health benefits. Inspired by the Late Late Show with James Cordon Carpool Karaoke series, Oncology Associates created their version to highlight how music can play a role in the cancer journey. The risk of getting breast cancer in men is about 1 in 1,000. While this risk is considerably lower than it is for women, breast cancer is a disease that men should be aware of as it can happen to them. Over 2,300 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in men this year. The cancer treatment for men with breast cancer is the same as it is for women. And, much like it is for women, the earlier the cancer can be detected the more likely it is that treatment can help. #breastcancerawareness #malebreastcancer #kianameradith #lightersideofcancer Dr. Stephen Lemon is no longer affiliated with Oncology Associates in Omaha and now practices at the Overlake Cancer Center in the Seattle, WA area. He invites you to follow his ongoing work at https://www.lightersideofcancer.com/

My 5 Favorite Cancer-Fighting Essential Oils & 5 Ways to Use Them I am definitely of the belief that one of the most powerful forms of plant-based medicines in the world is essential oils. From promoting relaxation to soothing skin scrapes, to supporting healing and the fight of disease, essential oils offer countless benefits to your life. Let me be clear – the use of these oils is no “fad.” Essential oils have thousands of years of history in traditional medicine, in the most ancient of cultures. The Egyptians, the Chinese, the Greeks… they all used essential oils. From the times of Biblical medicine on through to today, essential oils are used throughout the world. Until fairly recently they’ve been better accepted and popular outside of the United States… but I’m happy to see that so many Americans are catching on to the immense benefits of these healing oils. One of my favorite examples of the long history and effectiveness of essential oils is about a group of thieves in England who, despite daily contact with corpses who had succumbed to the Black Death (the plague), didn’t get sick. The story goes that the King heard about these men who would enter the homes of those taken by the plague, rob them of all their valuables, yet did not fall ill from the highly contagious disease. The King had these thieves captured and when they were brought in front of him, he demanded they reveal their secret. They confessed to being from a family of a long line of apothecaries. They were familiar with the immune protection provided by certain blends of oils, which they would rub all over their bodies, before going thieving. They say the King forced the men to reveal their recipe and then subsequently used the oils to protect himself and his family from the ravages of the Black Death. They also say the recipe is still in the Royal archives to this day. Now I don’t know if all this is all true or not, but the moral of the story is certainly sound. My own personal appreciation of the wide variety of benefits of essential oils (including their ability to protect the body from harm) began during my initial travels for The Quest For The Cures and A Global Quest docu-series. It was then that I realized how truly overlooked essential oils are as a component of the puzzle that is health and healing from disease. These days, my family and I use essential oils in a variety of ways on a daily basis. Our uses for these therapeutic powerhouses are wide-ranging. I’ll list out more further down, but a few ways we personally use essential oils include as medicines, for personal care products, as our cleansing agents, and more. Why do we believe everyone should follow in our footsteps and rely on essential oils, too? It’s simple. My family has opted to use safe, natural remedies that have thousands of years of history proving their benefits, over a dependence on prescriptions of synthetic drugs that have a long list of side effects which are nothing short of dangerous. Likewise, we prefer to use personal care products and household cleaners that are superior alternatives to those containing toxic ingredients. We get the same, or even better results, while losing the risk of damaging our bodies. Charlene and I are frequently asked about what essential oils we favor, and also how we use them. So, I thought I’d share with you some of our favorite anti-cancer oils and some tips for uses. Before I list my favorite essential oils for preventing and healing from cancer, just a reminder that when you are choosing essential oils to always look for the highest quality. You want oils that are certified organic, with 100% purity. My Favorite Anti-Cancer Oils (in alphabetical order) 1. Frankincense Frankincense may well be my number one favorite essential oil for its anti-cancer properties. It is anti-inflammatory, for one, which is vital in the quest to heal from all cancers. Specifically, frankincense has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme responsible for inflammation in the body. Frankincense essential oil also helps boost immune function and prevent illness by dangerous pathogens by multiplying white blood cells and modulating immune reactions. It also helps improve circulation, and reduce stress (it has sedative properties), as well as being a known pain reliever. Oil of frankincense has been shown to contract and tone tissues, which helps to speed regeneration. Frankincense is also shown to provide neurological support, including the ability to destroy toxins that may lead to neurological damage. However, this essential oil has several benefits beyond cancer treatment, including easing arthritis pain, balancing hormones, encouraging skin health, and aiding digestion. 2. Lavender As we’ve written elsewhere on The Truth About Cancer site, lavender essential oil contains the phytochemicals perillyl alcohol and linalool, both found to support cancer healing. Not only is lavender a known pain...
