The 14th annual Nashville Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk hit a record high for participants this year. People are doing more than walking/ running the 5k at Nissan Stadium on Saturday. Participant, Deborah Culp says, "It's so good seeing everyone out here in their pink, I think I saw a man in a tutu." More than 35,000 people are dressing in pink and getting crafty, including a group of women who call themselves, The Boob Heads. Lisa Viator says, "Everybody needs to get a routine mammogram. Save your life." Patty Ingram says, " that's why I am here today." Patty Ingram and her friend, Viator are part of the Boob Heads and are survivors because of early detection. Ingram says she went several years without a mammogram, with no family history of the disease.... Patty Ingram says , "I kept putting others needs before mine, and no woman should do that because if you're not here, you can't help the people you were helping." Now they're helping raise awareness at the event along with Fox 17s, Stacy Case, who lost her own mother to breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts Figures 2015, an estimated 231,840 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,290 will die from the disease this year. Since 1993, more than 11 million supporters have raised more than 85 million. Today, walks are held in nearly 300 communities nationwide. Funds raised help the Society invest in groundbreaking research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by breast cancer; and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable. To register, volunteer, or for more information, call 1-800-227-2345 orvisit makingstrideswalk.org/nashvilletn Fox 17 is the official TV station sponsor of the event this year.

It was the biggest showing ever for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Downtown Nashville today. Our very own Stacy Case was the emcee for the event. Fox 17 spoke with several whose lives have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another. This is the 11th year for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5 mile walk- in Nashville Michelle Miniker says, "We gotta be up early - might as well wear a tutu."Two year breast cancer survivor, Nedra White says, "This is my first time walking this race and I am just full of life - full of hope and full of joy."And while the event was fun and lighthearted the cause was serious and deeply emotional for most of the 20 thousand people who participated One year breast cancer survivor, Sherri darnell says, "It means a great deal to me this year because last year I had just finished my last chemo treatment and I could barely walk one mile."Many walked to honor those lost ...Michelle Miniker says, "My mom died 16 years ago from breast cancer and so this is kind of how we - you know I like to get my friends together and honor her still."Others walked for inspiration.... Nedra White says, "It is just overwhelming the support and I do believe ... I believe and I declare we are going to find a cure for all cancers." New this year to the Nashville event was the survivor trolley... It was a way for those currently fighting breast to participate in the walk... Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has been in the making since June... Organizers expected a large crowd- but the turnout surprised even them.... Event Coordinator, Angelia Wyatt says, "We are overwhelmed at this point a lot of the staff is walking around with tears in their eyes seeing how much it has grown."Wyatt says next year will be the 100th anniversary for the American Cancer Society... So she expects making strides against breast cancer to be even bigger next year. More than 650 thousand dollars was raised during this year's event. Proceeds from this walk will go towards breast cancer research and the Hopelodge which provides a free place for people to stay in Nashville while undergoing cancer treatment.

Our theme for the walk was "Miles for Miracles" and we had great participation among employee owners who supported the cause with donations and t shirt purchases. So many have loved ones who have had breast cancer and we want to honor those who are fighting the fight and remember those we have lost.

Nashville, Tenn- People from across the Mid-State will pound the pavement in an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer. The annual "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk" takes place this Saturday at LP Field. The walk brings together survivors and those still fighting for their lives. Marilyn Harris went to battle against breast cancer nearly four years ago. She had an aggressive form and underwent a lumpectomy, mastectomy, six months of chemotherapy and 33 rounds or radiation. But today Marilyn is cancer free. Each year Marilyn's family participates in the Making Strides Against Cancer Walk. She says, "because you're finished, you're now responsible for bringing someone else through.." Marilyn now wears the pink breast cancer ribbon as her badge of honor and hopefully to inspire others in the fight of their lives.
