Canine Congestive Heart Failure

This is my Boxer, Bing. What you're seeing are classic symptoms of Congestive Heart Failure. If your dog is breathing very laboriously, retching, and coughing up fluid either clear or pink (blood in fluid), then it probably has CHF. Get your dog to a Vet ASAP! This condition, though not curable, is definitely TREATABLE! If your dog is breathing like this, then it likely has water in his lungs and around his heart - he is drowning to death. Your vet will give a diuretic injection to get rid of all the fluid. He will also prescribe a blood pressure medication. Also, there is a new "miracle drug" called Vetmedin which will give your dog his quality of life back to him. Cannot stress enough that you need to get to a Vet ASAP as your dog is dying before your eyes.

Lost my cat to fluid in lungs please watch for the signs (GRAPHIC)

01:05
I lost my cat of 8 years, Fufu, to what seems like a combination of asthma, edema in the lungs and fluid in the lungs. Around January I realized he was having "hairball" attacks more often and didn't think much of it. Then I did further research and realized he might have asthma, so I took out my rug floor and switched it to wood. And it did help but it was short lived as today(march 22nd) he started breathing heavy and I could see his belly collapsing and expanding. I gave it an hour or so before I realized it was not getting better. I tried some things like Salix but it didn't manage to help. Then the breathing got progressively worst and thought it was congestive heart failure. I went as fast as I could to the vet and by then you can see he was drooling from his mouth. They did what they could by doing an x-ray and administering anti inflammatory steroids, a bronchodilator and oxygen mask. However, it was too late and he was suffering excessively. I will forever miss my cat and blame my lack of understanding and action that could've prevented his death.PLEASE use this video as a reference and hopefully you can prevent your pets death if they have similar symptoms. It is not a hair ball and do not wait on it. Take them to the vet immediately.

Heart Failure After Cancer Treatment | Ellen's Story

04:33
30 years ago, Ellen was diagnosed with an advanced form of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She was treated with chemo and radiation therapy, which sent her cancer in remission, and she went on to graduate college and meet her husband, Bruce. Together, they started a family and had a great place down the shore. It was on one of their frequent trips to the beach that Ellen started experiencing discomfort. She just didn’t feel right and soon had trouble breathing. Bruce called an ambulance, but they couldn’t get her heart rate down and Ellen was put in a medically induced coma for two weeks. Although she had received treatment for cancer many years before, the radiation had other side effects, and she was now in heart failure. In congestive heart failure, blood flow slows down and begins to back up in the veins, causing excess fluids to accumulate in the body's tissues. There is most often swelling in the legs and ankles, but it can occur in other parts of the body as well. Sometimes fluid collects in the lungs and interferes with breathing, causing shortness of breath. Though the hospital tried a variety of treatments, Ellen was not improving and she and Bruce decided to seek a second opinion. They requested a transfer to Penn, where they met Dr. Michael Acker, Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at Penn Medicine. Dr. Acker examined Ellen and found that her valve was the cause of her cardiac disease. He determined that a new valve would improve her quality of life. With this new care plan in place, Ellen and Bruce felt hope. On the day of the surgery all went as planned. Today, Ellen and her family are back to the life they love. When Death is near

05:49
Every death is individual, just as we are all different in life. There are a few common changes that happen. Knowing what these changes are and how to manage them may be helpful. It is usual and normal for people to experience these changes when death is near: More tiredness and sleeping more Eating and drinking less Less passing urine and faeces Being more drowsy and less alert There is no need to be worried or concerned about these changes as they are part of the usual process of preparing for death. Eating and drinking – If the person who is dying does not ask for food or drink or declines them there is no need to worry or try to force them to eat or drink Mouth care – The person who is dying might not feel thirsty but their mouth can become dry and this can feel uncomfortable. You can help keep their mouth moist by giving them ice chips to suck or using a moistened swab [demonstrate use of swab] Breathing – Sometimes people can have very noisy breathing; this breathing can sound very alarming but the person who is dying is not usually distressed by it. There is medication that can reduce this sound. Pain and agitation – There is medication that can reduce these symptoms Confusion – The person who is dying may be a bit confused. There is medication that can assist with this. You can also assist by telling them where they are and that they are being looked after. Confusion may be lessened by playing music that the person likes and having family members (familiar faces) around (especially if the person is in an unfamiliar environment such as the hospital). Changing position – An air bed or a hospital bed and air mattress can be provided to help the person who is dying to feel comfortable in bed and to help you help them to change position every few hours. A person can be close to death but not yet passed away for days or sometimes weeks. Sometimes a person can move close to death but then recover again; they may move in and out of this stage. Even if a person wants to die at home, sometimes the final stages can be too much; it can be overwhelming. It is okay to call for help and ask for the person to be admitted to the local hospital. There are palliative care rooms available at Ararat, Maryborough, Willaura, Stawell, St Arnaud, and Beaufort. These rooms provide some privacy and opportunity for you to be with the dying person and nursing staff are available to assist you in caring. There may be the opportunity for a carer to sleep overnight at the hospital with the person who is dying – if this is what you would like to do, ask the staff about this option. My sad little coughing dog...

01:03
We learned after posting this video 4 years ago that Prescott had lung cancer. Half of a lung was removed, and he recovered wonderfully. About two years later, he was hospitalized for congestive heart failure. Since then, he's been on a series of 4 meds daily and continues to do amazingly well. Now 16 years old, we're thankful he's still with us as our family welcomed a baby girl last year (in 2012). "Dog" was her first word, and she loves Prescott lke crazy. He tolerates her. :)

Dog with lung cancer

01:02
This is how my dog breathed with lung cancer. He first was diagnosed with inoperable mast cell tumors but did well outside of a few seizures occasionally. Then he developed an anal sac tumor recently which then metastasized to his liver and lungs. He started coughing up spots of blood and developed a severe bladder infection. He sadly is being euthanized today. He is almost 11 and was spoiled and loved dearly.

Fluid accumulates in your abdomen Signs|symptoms an type|natural treatment of Ascites

05:12
Ascites is the accumulation of fluid (usually serous fluid which is a pale yellow and clear fluid) that accumulates in the abdominal (peritoneal) cavity. The abdominal cavity is located below the chest cavity, separated from it by the diaphragm. Ascitic fluid can have many sources such as liver disease, cancers, congestive heart failure, or kidney failure. When fluid builds up inside the abdomen, It is dangerous disease What are the types of ascites? Traditionally, ascites is divided into 2 types; transudative or exudative. This classification is based on the amount of protein found in the fluid. A more useful system has been developed based on the amount of albumin in the ascitic fluid compared to the serum albumin (albumin measured in the blood). This is called the Serum Ascites Albumin Gradient or SAAG. Signs and symptoms Mild ascites is hard to notice, but severe ascites leads to abdominal distension. Patients with ascites generally will complain of progressive abdominal heaviness and pressure as well as shortness of breath due to mechanical impingement on the diaphragm. symptoms may develop gradually or suddenly, depending on the cause. When only a small amount of fluid is present in the abdomen, ascites may be undetectable. Abdominal pain and bloating increase with the amount of fluid collected in the body. Ascites is detected on physical examination of the abdomen by visible bulging of the flanks in the reclining patient ("flank bulging"), "shifting dullness" (difference in percussion note in the flanks that shifts when the patient is turned on the side) or in massive ascites with a "fluid thrill" or "fluid wave" (tapping or pushing on one side will generate a wave-like effect through the fluid that can be felt in the opposite side of the abdomen). Other signs of ascites . include: Ankle or leg swelling (edema) Changes to the navel Decreased appetite Fatigue For instance, in portal hypertension (perhaps due to cirrhosis or fibrosis of the liver) patients may also complain of leg swelling, bruising or mental changes due to encephalopathy. Those with ascites due to cancer may complain of chronic fatigue or weight loss. Those with ascites due to heart failure may also complain of shortness of breath as well as wheezing and exercise intolerance Treatments Since ascites prevents the flushing of salt through your pee, the first step is to cut down on the salt you eat, by a lot. Your doctor also may prescribe “water pills,” also called diuretics, to help flush the extra fluid from your body. Two of the most common diuretics are: • Furosemide • Spironolactone  Reduce the amount of fluids consumed you throughout the day  If change in diet and prescription diuretics aren’t effective, or your symptoms are severe, your doctor may have to use paracentesis to remove large amounts of excess fluid through a needle inserted into your abdomen. This procedure must be combined with a low-salt, low-liquid diet, otherwise the fluid will simply come back. While use of theses thing In your daily diet for Ascites treatment • raw Garlic in your diet . • drink juice of Radish Leaves and Water. • use of Watermelon. Or Onions. • juice of Garlic. •. • use Bitter Gourd. • Chickpeas in your diet. Use chemotherapy for patients with certain types of cancer. This treatment is extremely rare. Prevention of ascites depends on the cause subscribe to my channel awareness and precautions video thank you

Lung sounds - Breath sounds Types & Causes

05:00
Here is a quick review of breath sounds heard on auscultation. The normal breath sounds are Vesicular breath sounds heard on most of the lung. It is soft and of low pitch. Inspiratory phase in longer than expiration without any pause between these two phases. Abnormalities can be presence of bronchial breath sounds, diminished or absent breath sounds, or presence of added/Adventitious breath sounds. Bronchial breathing is hollow, tubular in quality, high pitched. There is definite gap between inspiration & expiration. Added or Adventitious sounds include Wheeze, Crepitations, Pleural friction rub & Stridor. Wheeze can be Low pitched also known as Rhonchi or High pitched which is the usual wheeze. Low pitched wheeze/Rhonchi is caused by secretions in smaller airways causing narrowing while High pitched wheeze is because of Bronchospasm. Stridor is not included in this video as it is not classically a breath sound auscultated but is audible without stethoscope and is caused by narrowing/obstruction of larger airways. A good stethoscope like Litmann stethoscope is a must to pick sounds easily during auscultation. It is encouraged to listen to breath sounds (included in video) with headphones. What is the relationship between smoking and Heart Disease? - Dr. Anand Lingan

02:40
Smoking is the leading preventable risk factor of cardiovascular disease in adults. In addition to the fact that smoking can cause lung cancer and other diseases its relation to the heart is very important. All the more in the Indian scenario the cause of smoking is the most modifiable risk factor for causing heart attacks is very important. Smoking in any form in the form of beedis, cigarettes or in the form of cigars or pipes or e-cigarettes or non smoking form of tobacco in the form of stuff are dangerous. The risk of smoking with heart disease is depended upon the number of cigarettes smoked to the duration of years in which it is being smoked. There is no cut off value below which it is considered to be safe. Smoking is deleterious to the heart. It could be in the form of causing sudden heart attacks in young patient. It is seen that in the south Asian population the heart attacks come much earlier. This in compared to the Western population one common reason is smoking. Smoking causes increased tendency of the blood to clot because of which a sudden heart attack can come. The benefits of stopping smoking is an important question which is not realised by many of them. Smoking when stopped reduce the risk of further heart attack by one third by the end of one year and the risk almost goes to that of a normal person who is a non smoker by the end of two years. This is a fact with the general population that don’t realise much. So it is always good to stop smoking than to continue it. The benefits of quit smoking continues from the time it is stopped and the benefits continues as it is quit for a long time.

Consider Your Heart During Cancer Treatment

02:47
There's a spectrum of heart disease that's associated with cancer care, including high blood pressure, weakening of the heart muscle and congestive heart failure, according to Guilherme H. Oliveira, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Cardiology at M. D. Anderson. "The role of cardiac care in cancer treatment is becoming more important than ever," Oliveira says. "While newer cancer treatments offer patients a better chance of survival, many also have a direct impact on the cardiac system." For example, Oliveira explains that newer targeted therapies zero in on and destroy the molecules that are essential for the survival of cancer cells. But these are the same molecules that are vital for optimal functioning of heart cells.
