Patients are assiged a stage by their doctor that describes how much the cancer has spread beyond the liver. The more the the cancer has spread, the higher the stage and the lower the survival rate. Survival rates for these stages are traditionally given as the percentage of patients who live at least 5 years after their diagnosis. Here are the 5-year survival rates for liver cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute, based on studies done between 2005-2011. 31 Percent For people whose cancer is "localized," that is, has not spread outside the liver, the 5-year survival rate is about one in three. Localized means the cancer is still confined to the liver, and includes stages I, II, and some stage III cancers. This encompasses a wide range of cancers, some of which are easier to treat than others. 11 Percent The 5-year survival rate for "regional" liver cancer is about one in ten. Regional means the cancer has grown into nearby organs or has spread to nearby lymph nodes. This typically happens in stages IIIC and IVA. 3 Percent If liver cancer has spread to other parts of the body, the 5-year survival rate is about 1 in 33. Distant means that the cancer has spread to distant organs or tissues and is the same as stage IVB. The overall 5-year survival is better than 50 percent in patients with "resectable" tumors -- that is, tumors that can be completely removed. These patients are likely to do well if their tumors are removed when they're not suffering from cirrhosis or other serious health problems. At the present time, those who have early-stage liver cancers and get a liver transplant have a 5-year survival rate is in the range of 60% to 70%. Of course, the 5-year survival rate for liver cancer tends to be better if the cancer is found and treated at an earlier stage. The purpose of this video has been to provide quick, basic information on liver cancer survival rates. Liver cancer is an interesting disease. As with all cancers it affects the entire body, not just where it's centralized. The liver is one of the most important organs in your body. It is located on your right side just under the rib cage and diaphragm. It is the only internal organ that is capable of regenerating itself from as little as 25%. The liver has many functions. The first function is to produce bile, which helps aid digestion. After digestion, nutrients are delivered back to the liver for processing. Some nutrients, such as sugar, are retained by the liver and released if the body needs more energy. The liver also creates coagulation factors to help the body stop blood loss after an injury. Lastly the liver cleans blood by breaking down any toxic substance found inside the blood. Due to it’s many important functions, the liver is essential to sustaining life. Liver cancer, as the name suggests is cancer that affects the liver. Liver cancer often begins in the gallbladder or liver, but in some cases it can be transported through the bloodstream into the liver, where it begins to grow. The symptoms of liver cancer include weight loss, poor appetite, inflated abdomen, a lack of energy, discomfort in the abdomen, and fever. Often times the tumor has grown significantly before being discovered. Liver cancer can lead to liver failure, which can cause the skin and eyes to turn a yellowish color. To check for liver cancer doctors first examine the abdomen by feeling the liver to see if it is enlarged, and a blood sample is taken. If the doctor suspects a tumor they will then follow up with blood tests, an ultrasound, and a CT scan. If the cancer is not spread throughout the entire liver, the doctor may prefer to remove the infected part of the liver. With the liver’s extraordinary ability to regenerate, it can be back to normal size within a few months. If removal is not possible, treatments of radio-frequency ablation, chemotherapy, or alcohol injection may be administered. These can all help prolong the life of a cancer patient. After all, whether you are sick or not, death is inevitable. The pathophysiology of Hepatocellular carcinoma has not been definitively elucidated and is clearly a multifactorial event. Inflammation, necrosis, fibrosis, and ongoing regeneration characterize the cirrhotic liver and contribute to hepatocellular carcinoma development The 1-year survival rate for people with liver cancer is 44%. The 5-year survival rate is 17%. For the 43% of people who are diagnosed at an early stage, the 5-year survival rate is 31%. If liver cancer has spread to surrounding tissues or organs and/or the regional lymph nodes, the 5-year survival rate is 11%. If the cancer has spread to a distant part of the body, the 5-year survival rate is 3%. The liver is the football-sized organ in the upper right area of the belly. Symptoms are uncommon in the early stages of liver cancer. Later, symptoms may include weight loss, belly pain, vomiting, and yellowed skin. Treatments vary but may include removal of part of the liver, transplant, chemotherapy, and in some cases radiation. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary malignancy of the liver and occurs predominantly in patients with underlying chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. The cell(s) of origin are believed to be the hepatic stem cells, although this remains the subject of investigation. Tumors progress with local expansion, intrahepatic spread, and distant metastases. HCC is now the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, with over 500,000 people affected. The incidence of HCC is highest in Asia and Africa, where the endemic high prevalence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C strongly predisposes to the development of chronic liver disease and subsequent development of HCC. I am dying of cancer. As a cancer patient, he chemotherapy side effects are gruesome. My skin caner (melanoma) has turned into lung cancer. This chemotherapy (chemo) diary is necessary for me to attempt to describe what is going on with my life. The chemo is so unlike anything else I have ever experienced, it was very hard for me to construct an emotionally appropriate video according to the way I felt during the experience. This was as close as I could com, so here is Diary of a Dying Man.. My goal is not to gross anyone out, but to transfer a notion of life that might not ordinarily be understood. This is real, this is how I feel. | Diaries of a Dying Man (D.D.M.) by Joshua Kline | My name is Joshua and I have cancer, welcome to my videos. The liver is the largest organ inside the body and is located just below the ribs on the right side. The liver has many functions: it filters waste and other harmful materials from the blood, it produces enzymes and bile that help with digestion and it produces chemicals and hormones necessary for regulating many body functions. Liver cells are called hepatocytes. Liver cancer is classified as either primary (starting in the liver) or secondary (spreading to the liver from cancer in another part of body). Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common form of primary liver cancer. It develops in the liver cells and damages other healthy liver cells. Continuous growth of cancerous hepatocytes can cause malignant, or cancerous, tumors to form. In its early stages, liver cancer does not produce many symptoms and is hard to detect. As the cancer grows, symptoms such as abdominal pain and bloating, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) may appear. While doctors do not know exactly what causes liver cancer, chronic liver infections, such as viral hepatitis B and C, and cirrhosis of the liver can increase a person's risk for developing the disease. Men are more likely to develop liver cancer, as are people over the age of 60. There are different treatment options available, depending on the type and stage of the cancer. Surgery or a liver transplant are options only if the tumor is small and contained within the liver. If the tumor is very large or has spread beyond the liver, chemotherapy or radiation may relieve symptoms and prolong life, but this is not a cure. In an extremely rare case, four patients developed cancer after receiving organs from the same donor, with three succumbing to the disease. When doctors harvested the kidneys, lungs, heart, and liver of a 53-year-old organ donor, she had no known medical conditions, and no malignancy was detected, according to a case report published in the American Journal of Transplantation. Breast cancer cells were later found in the lung, left kidney, and liver recipients, with DNA analysis showing they came from the donor. The tree died after the cancer metastasized. A fourth organ recipient survived following removal of the donated right kidney, stopping immunosuppression drugs, and chemotherapy. The study suggests the donor has micro-metastases, which are groups of cancer cells that spread from their site of origin, but are too small to be detected. Organ donations are not allowed for anyone with an active malignancy, as cancer transmission can occur during transplantation. This rare medical occurrence, however, is believed to be the first case of breast cancer being transferred. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. Three people died after the same organ donor gave them all breast cancer, an 'extraordinary' case report has revealed. The donor, a 53-year-old woman, died of a stroke in 2007 and donated her kidneys, lungs, liver and heart to patients needing transplants. But within six years of the woman's organs being transplanted, four of the five recipients had died as a result. The heart patient died of sepsis but the other four developed breast cancer which spread into their healthy organs. Only one survived. The cancer was not noticed by doctors before the woman's organs were donated and they acted as Trojan horses, secretly carrying the disease into the patients' bodies. Experts say the odds of getting cancer from any single organ transplant could be as small as one in 10,000. And they believe this is the first time one patient has passed cancer on to four recipients, and it has never been seen to take so long for tumours to develop. Research by scientists at University of Tübingen in Germany and the VU University Medical Center in the Amsterdam, the Netherlands, revealed the strange tragedy which unfolded during six years after the donor died. The experts insist donor screenings do work well enough and say there is a 0.01 to 0.05 per cent chance of getting cancer from any donated organ. The first person to be diagnosed in the peculiar case was a 42-year-old woman who received both the donor's lungs. Less than a year-and-a-half after receiving her new lungs, the woman was admitted to hospital because they weren't working properly. Doctors then discovered she had breast cancer which had started in her lungs and spread to her bones – it later spread to her liver and she died in August 2009. The disease is still called breast cancer even when elsewhere in the body because the tumours are made of cells specific to the original cancer which started in breast tissue but have spread. Medics proved the cancer had originated in the organ donor by doing DNA testing. When news got out about the lung transplant recipient dying, the 62-year-old woman who recieved the left kidney and the 32-year-old man who received the right kidney were both warned about the risk of cancer. Tests were done on both but no sign of the disease was found right away. But in 2011 the man was diagnosed with cancer in his kidney, and the woman was found to have cancer in her liver, but not until five years later. The number of people in the UK who are waiting for a lung transplant has risen by nearly half in the past five years. Some 354 people in the UK now need a new lung in order to survive, compared to 242 people in 2013 – a rise of 46 per cent. And around a quarter of patients on the list will die before they get a new lung, or become so frail they can no longer have a transplant. NHS Blood and Transplant said people on the organ donor list are getting older and less healthy so their lungs aren't suitable for transplants. John Forsythe, NHS Blood and Transplant's associate medical director said: 'Last year, 65 people died on the lung transplant waiting list and many of those lives could have been saved or transformed had more families said yes to donation. 'Sadly, many donation opportunities are lost every year because families don’t know if their loved one wanted to be a donor or not. 'We urgently need people to tell their families they want to donate.' The man had his transplanted kidney removed and took chemotherapy drugs for a year, and has been cancer free since 2012. However, the woman's cancer, which was first noticed in her liver, then appeared in her kidney, bones, spleen and other organs in the digestive tract. Her treatment was withdrawn and she died two months after being diagnosed – a full six years after first receiving the donor kidney. The fourth patient to get cancer from the transplanted organs was a 59-year-old woman who recieved the liver, to replace hers which was damaged by cirrhosis. Her tumour was detected in 2011 but she refused to have the liver removed, fearing similar complications to the ones she experience after the first op in 2007. Researchers said 'she felt well' and treatment managed to stabilise the disease. But when the cancer began to spread in 2014, she refused any further treatment and died. The scientists suggest keeping the organs warm without a blood supply could have allowed tumour cells which were moving in the bloodstream to settle in the organs and begin to spread. And because the patie

Joan Jackson, of Detroit, was diagnosed with lung cancer after doctors discovered a tumor in her upper left lung in 2014. The initial treatment of surgery was canceled when several cancerous lymph nodes were discovered, and after chemotherapy and a round of radiation were ineffective, Fortunately for Jackson, hope came in the form of Edge radiosurgery treatment, an advanced technology known as stereotactic radiation offered by Josephine Ford Cancer Institute, of the Henry Ford Health System. Dr. Benjamin Movasas, chairman of the department of radiation describes its sophistication and its ability to give patients better options than surgery. Eight months after undergoing a successful surgery for colon cancer, Delaware resident Thelma Klase, was diagnosed with a large cancerous tumor in her liver, thought to be metastatic colon cancer. After an initial attempt at surgery failed and months of chemotherapy targeting her presumed colon cancer, Thelma and her family sought a second opinion from Matthew Weiss, a liver surgeon and surgical director of the Johns Hopkins Liver and Pancreatic Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinics. Dr. Weiss reassured his new patient that another approach offered good odds for success. He used a portal vein embolization procedure to grow the portion of her liver that was to remain. Then he removed the tumor, which turned out not to be metastatic colon cancer, but a completely different liver cancer. The surgery was successful, allowing Thelma a new lease on life. Lung cancer is a common cancer in India. But unfortunately about 6 to 15% of the patients comes early enough to be treated well. The best treatment that is available for them is surgery. The surgery which is traditionally performed is an open surgery where the chest is opened up and the diseased portion of the lung is removed. Of late we have had major developments in the surgical techniques which makes it possible to do the surgeries with smaller wounds and these changes are mainly the laparoscopic and robotic surgeries. In chest laparoscopic surgery is called thoracoscopic surgery where in very small wounds are required to perform this surgery. Patient goes home much earlier. There are very few long term problems. So at present the best treatment that is available for lung cancer in the form of surgery is laparoscopic or thoracoscopic surgery.

A 7-year-old girl from Long Island, NY, is on her way home a little more than four weeks after receiving a historic surgery that involved the removal and partial re-implantation of six organs in order to resect an abdominal tumor that otherwise would be inoperable. The 23-hour surgery, which began on Feb. 6, was led by Dr. Tomoaki Kato [(212) 305-5101, 877-LIVER-MD] at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, and is the first reported pediatric case of its kind. Dr. Kato and his team of seven surgeons and eight other clinicians removed nearly every major organ in the girl's abdominal cavity -- small and large intestines, liver, pancreas, spleen and stomach. Three separate surgical teams worked to remove the tennis ball-sized tumor, which was tangled around vital organs and essential blood vessels. One team worked on the abdominal cavity, while two others prepared the small and large intestines and liver, which were kept healthy outside the body using cold preservation fluid of the kind used in transplantation. Throughout the surgery, the patient's father, a firefighter, was on standby as a transplant donor in case his daughter's liver was too damaged; it was determined to be healthy and viable. The liver, small and large intestines were re-implanted. However, her pancreas, spleen and stomach -- non-vital organs that had been compromised by the tumor -- were unsuitable for re-implantation. While the tumor was rare, Dr. Kato notes that the surgical approach could be used for more common cancers. "Any time a tumor wraps itself around an organ's blood vessel it has been generally considered inoperable because in order to remove the tumor, you must cut the blood supply. Our solution is to take out the organs just as you would in transplantation. This allows us to remove the tumor from the organs and the abdominal cavity. When this is done, we re-implant the organs, then repair and reconstruct the vessels using synthetic material such as Gore-Tex. Our surgery shows this is possible, and could potentially save the lives of dozens of adults and children every year," notes Dr. Kato, surgical director of liver and intestinal transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and a faculty member of the Department of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. The patient was diagnosed with an unusual tumor in early 2008. Since then she had surgery to remove the tumor from her stomach, followed by chemotherapy, to which she did not respond. The rare, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor was growing rapidly throughout her abdominal cavity. According to Dr. Kato, the biggest threat was how the tumor had blocked her splenic and portal veins, putting the patient at risk for uncontrollable and life-endangering bleeding. "I am grateful to my colleagues and the bravery of this girl and her family for making this surgery a success," says Dr. Kato. While the patient's life is no longer in immediate danger, she will have some long-term medical challenges. Without a stomach she will have dietary restrictions comparable to that of someone who has had gastric bypass surgery, and without a pancreas, she will be diabetic. Absence of a spleen will possibly make her more susceptible to certain infections. "Dr. Kato's approach, known as auto-transplantation, can also be used in place of traditional transplantation for some patients, precluding the need for a donor organ. This could save lives and make lifelong immunosuppressant drugs that are required after transplantation unnecessary," says Dr. Jean Emond, chief of transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, and vice chairman of the Department of Surgery and the Thomas S. Zimmer Professor of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Emond was a part of the surgical team involved in the case. Dr. Kato, formerly a professor of clinical surgery at the University of Miami, is known for unique and innovative surgeries for adults and children, especially in the area of multiple-organ, or multi-visceral surgeries. He has performed nearly 100 of these cases since 2001. In March 2008, Dr. Kato led a similar surgery to remove and re-implant six organs in a 63-year-old Miami woman -- believed to be the first case of its kind in the world. In addition, he helped pioneer a procedure called APOLT (auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplantation) that resuscitates a failing liver by attaching a partial donor liver, making lifelong immunosuppressant drugs unnecessary; and the first successful human partial bladder transplantation involving the transplant of two kidneys together with ureters connected to a patch of the donor bladder.

Morse, my question is about kidney filtration and water intake. Why is it when i go long periods of time without water, my urine looks darker and seems to filter better? Also when i drink to much water my urine becomes clear and doesn't seem to have very much of anything in it. I was wondering if drinking to much liquid impairs kidney filtration. i also noticed a lot of kidney herbs are diuretics, why is that? I've been playing around with the idea of dry fasting and it's possible benefits, and the idea of freeing up the kidneys job of removing water all day. Do you have any opinion on how much liquid one should consume, and if not drinking water till your thirsty is ok. thanks, your a wonderful person 58:13 – Guillaume - I need help , I'm a 28 years old naturopathy student , from Quebec Canada . Say No to Immunotherapy It is toxic Immunotherapy does not cure cancer, and it barely induces remission. It is the most toxic treatment on the market. It is no better than traditional chemotherapy. Treatment with immunotherapies results in a unique and distinct spectrum of adverse events” These “adverse events” are grave diseases. I shall discus this special issue which was recently Published in Science. Medicine regards tumor as parasite which should be destroyed with our powerful immune system. Yet this metaphor turned to be a therapy dead end. Listen why Tumor proteins are not recognized as antigens by the immune system. (no antibody) Medicine decided that tumor hides its parasite identity and sneaks through the immunity barrier. Since immune system fails to destroy tumor it has to be augmented with immunotherapy. Yet immune system failed to obey the dogma. Tumor is born when a normal stem cell becomes neoplastic. Initially tumor is small and gradually grows, while immune system lets it sneak through. Organism regards tumor as its organ, like heart or liver Cancer is a viral disease and tumor repairs viral damage. It may take some time until medicine embraces this biological marvel. Medicine will continue its war on this so called parasite and you will pay with your health. Don’t despair. Soon will Deus ex Machina intervene and save you. Stock market Deus ex Machina.

Organ transplantation: "The organ delivery is incredibly safe" Four patients received different organs for transplantation from the same donor - women. She was healthy, and died of a stroke. As a result, after a while all four fell ill with cancer. European doctors faced a serious and atypical problem. After organ transplantation, their patients developed cancer. In 2007, a 53-year-old woman died of a stroke and her organs were transplanted to other people. Five people received kidneys, liver, heart and lungs. All organs were suitable for transplantation, and the deceased woman did not have serious illnesses, she died of a stroke. The organs underwent all necessary investigations and no contraindications were revealed. After heart transplantation to the recipient, the woman died. But doctors say that this is not connected with this operation. A year and a half later, the patient turned to the doctors, who received the lungs from the donor. She complained of general weakness, and after the examination it became clear that cancer cells appeared in the lymph nodes on the breast. After DNA analysis, it became clear that the cancer cells belonged to the lung donor. In this patient, breast cancer developed in a very aggressive form and soon the woman died. As a matter of urgency, the remaining three recipients were called to the medical facility. Initially, there were no traces of oncology. But in 2011 the patient who received a liver from this donor turned to the doctors. She eventually diagnosed with breast cancer. She started the fight against cancer, refusing the next transplant. But after three years of fighting the disease, her body gave up and she died. In 2013, doctors diagnosed cancer in another patient who received a kidney from the same donor. Cancer struck almost all of her organs and soon she died. The right kidney was given to a 32-year-old man. When it became known that the recipients were dying, he was examined, and cancer cells were found in the transplanted kidney. Then the kidney was urgently removed. After chemotherapy, cancer cells died. This is still the only surviving person after organ transplantation from this donor. After 10 years, there are no cancer cells in his body. Scientists are shocked by such data, since the risk of cancer transmission from transplanted organs is very low and does not exceed 0.05%. Moreover, when each organ of the donor passes a lot of checks for compliance with all requirements and safety. Experts believe that the deceased woman was not diagnosed with cancer, and her body spread micrometastases, which can not be determined. Cancer develops particularly rapidly in people taking immunosuppressants (drugs that depress the immune system so that it does not reject the new organ), and then the tumor grows even faster. #transplantation #oncologyisinvincible #metastasesonthelist #cancerontheborder #oncology #transplantation #cancer #swelling #hearttransplantation #tumor #metastasisofthebreast #tumorsofthefermentediron #metastasis #oncologyevolution #organtransplantation

What product should I buy that will focus on that?” 1:47:00 – Grace – “I was put on accutane twice by my dermatologist, due to my acne. A month or so after starting my first round of accutane, I noticed that I had developed hyperhidrosis. I used to sweat normally, but after the accutane, I am now extremely sensitive to heat, and begin to sweat at any minimal physical activity. If it is above 20 degrees celsius outdoors, I will sweat. If I even go for a walk around the block, I start to sweat. It is from my face and head. PLEASE explain and help! Thank u, God bless!” 1:53:04 – Cristina – “Hi I've had eczema since I was a baby - I'm 25. I've used topical steroids for yrs. I finally stopped using them this past Feb & have been eating a vegan, mostly fruit diet w/ cooked starches&grains but eczema has spread to nearly my entire body. I've been fully raw for 11 days, & my skin is constantly dry & flaking off. I get periods of unbearable itchiness, which either results in bleeding or oozing of fluid. I can barely sleep. Which herbs do you recommend as bare minimum on a budget to help?” 1:59:36 – Talia – “Hi Doc, thanks for all your help so far. I'd like some self diagnosis. After a 801010 raw vegan diet, I experienced hair loss and mild tooth decay. After recognising this and impatience (2 months)in my acne clearing, balanced energy etc I ceased 8/1/1. Im now vegetarian,20 and have worse health conditions, thin hair still remains, no longer clear white around the eyes, teeth translucence, several minor cavities and sore teeth, weight gain, acne, random black body hairs, period pain, bad bodyodor.”

Our gorgeous daughter Sophie was diagnosed with liver cancer, which had spread to the lungs, in June 2011. This is a cancer that affects only a few children each year. The prognosis for children with this type of cancer is extremely poor at just 30%. Sophie bravely endured 3 rounds of traumatic chemotherapy before having liver surgery on 16th November 2011 when 25% of her liver and the entire primary tumour was removed. She then started a further 4 rounds of chemotherapy to clear the remaining tumours in her lungs and went into remission in March 2012. By this happy time she'd spent over 50 nights in hospital and a ¼ of her life suffering from a life threatening illness. Unfortunately, our happiness and joy was short lived as the cancer returned aggressively throughout her lungs in early May. Treatment options for this kind of relapse are very limited, and she is currently being treated with new chemotherapy to control the disease. We are documenting our brave girl's ongoing fight and treatment, to raise £230,000 to help to pay for surgery and to raise awareness of this awful rare disease. The best treatment option for Sophie is surgery; two UK surgery teams have refused to operate but luckily a team at Sloan-Kettering in New York has agreed to offer her life saving surgery. This surgery has to be privately funded by Sophie's family, so we are asking for help with raising this money. We have already lost several very close family and friends to cancer over the years and will do whatever it takes to ensure we do not lose anymore.
