Support Access To Birth Control

00:34
Birth control gives women and girls freedom – the freedom to go to school, advance their careers, and plan families when they’re ready. The Trump administration is threatening this freedom for the 62.4 million women whose birth control is covered under the Affordable Care Act. Officials want to give employers who don’t believe in contraception for religious or moral reasons the power to cut this essential benefit from their insurance. Now is your chance to speak up. Tell the Trump administration to keep their hands off our birth control! Email acting Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Eric Hargan now. #HandsoffmyBC Take Action: https://www.hrw.org/handsoffmybc

We need to change how we bury the dead

The way we traditionally bury the dead is horrible for the environment. It uses an incredible amount of resources, emits toxic pollutants into the air, and pumps the ground full of formaldehyde, which is known to cause cancer. It's also prohibitively expensive. The average cost of a modern funeral costs between $10,000 to $12,000. There are a number of greener options available though. Cremation uses less resources and requires less space than a traditional burial, but isn't perfect. There are more experimental methods on the horizon such as promession and alkaline hydrolysis. No matter which method we choose, it's clear that we need to reform how we bury the dead. Also be sure to read Mark Harris's excellent book about green burials http://www.gravematters.us

Low-cost Drug Could Save Thousands of Mothers' Lives Across Developing World

02:18
A new study says a low-cost and widely available drug could save the lives of one in three mothers who would otherwise bleed to death after childbirth. The global trial of more than 20,000 women also found the drug reduced the need for urgent surgery to control bleeding, such as a hysterectomy, by more than one-third. VOA's Henry Ridgwell reports from London. Originally published at - http://www.voanews.com/a/low-cost-drug-could-save-thousands-mothers-lives-developing-world/3826728.html

Without Planned Parenthood, Courtney Would Not Be a Mother | Planned Parenthood Video

At 17, Courtney was diagnosed with Endometriosis. Without the high-quality health care she received at Planned Parenthood, she wouldn’t have been able to fulfill her dream of being a mom. #StandWithPP #WeArePP Visit the Planned Parenthood WEBSITE: plannedparenthood.org Like Planned Parenthood on FACEBOOK: facebook.com/PlannedParenthood Follow Planned Parenthood on TWITTER: twitter.com/PPFA Follow Planned Parenthood on INSTAGRAM: instagram.com/plannedparenthood Follow Planned Parenthood on TUMBLR: plannedparenthood.tumblr.com Transcript: GFX: Courtney | Chicago Courtney: When I was 17, I was diagnosed with Endometriosis. After experiencing a lot of pain, a lot of discomfort, and...you know, the doctor told me that the disorder was going to be chronic. I would continue to experience pain and, at worst, I could experience infertility later in life. And that was one of my dreams, was to be a mom. They told me I needed to go on hormonal birth control right away. And so, I did that and I remained on birth control up until I was kicked off my parent’s insurance. I found myself in graduate school holding down a couple of jobs, going to classes full time, really not making enough additional income to afford the type of birth control I needed. I had always taken a lot of pride in being very independent. Pay my bills, working my way through everything, and not asking anyone to help me with anything. And so, it took a lot of vulnerability to pick up that phone and say, “I need help.” And on the other end of that phone were really caring people. And every step of that day reassured me that this was real life. You know, things happen. Sometimes you can’t afford your meds, and that’s why we’re here. So I got in, same day walked out with the medication I needed. Fast forward several years into the future, my husband and I went in for a consult before we tried to get pregnant. The specialist told me that because I’d had Endometriosis for so long, that there was a really good chance that I would never be able to get pregnant. We went ahead, started trying to get pregnant. And we were blessed. I know that had I not been able to take my meds when I needed to, that my outcomes would’ve been very different. I really believe that without Planned Parenthood, I would not be a mother. Sonya Renee Taylor’s “Evolve” | Planned Parenthood Video

04:50
Transcript: Evolve Your great grandmother sips gin slow in a speakeasy in Chicago or Detroit. Stokes the flame of a pot bellied stove in Alabama or Arkansas. She is cigarette fixed at precipice of red lips. Tells a suitor maybe your great grandfather, maybe not, what she expects from his courting. There will be no hoarding pleasure in her house. Your great grandma was fast. Ain't it what we call a woman well acquainted with the topography of a hostile world yet unbowed to its back hand. A jook joint majesty. A siren of her own fire, a thing this world has endlessly tried to expire but could not, which is why you are here, today. Your grandmother, cursed or never cursed. Drank or never drank. Knew men the way Job knew trials or never knew sin at all. She was a country girl or familiar with the infinite heat of a New York City street. She was sweet on a woman once, they kissed and never told. She was Dominican or Irish or golden brown as a Mississippi dirt road glinting in the sun. She has labored whether with hand or with heart. She has known part and parcel of struggle. Knew she was done birthing after birthing the child that birthed you or knew others would follow. She has swallowed decades of discarded promises made to look like men or money. She was choice made flesh long before we flung a pro around its neck and called those words movement. Movement is what she has always known. Prone to survival. Which is why you are here, today. Your mother was never only your mother. Never only lover or law clerk or domestic worker. Your mother was defiant in a bathrobe and slippers, in a boardroom, in a bedroom where she said no or yes or more. With a body like the one she taught you to own like your own good name. She is failed and flawed and fortune forged in flame. The best of what could be made out of this starshine and clay an inheritance of blood and grace which is why you are here, today. We call this evolution. How one person becomes billions by splitting an idea like an atom. How a notion as simple as “every woman should be the absolute mistress of her own body”, could collect us like rainwater deliver us here. Queer and trans man and none of the above. But out loud love and the certainty that a true word spoken one hundred years later is still true. You deserve every option available to you in service toward your best life. There is no light brighter than the blaze of resistance. Evolution is the insistence that we must grow or die. Which is why, we are here today. Redefining the way we see each other;with wider vision. Carrying a great grandmother’s mission forward, like a seed tucked in the pocket of humanity. We are not tasked with the awesome calling of making a tree. We are tasked with the noble work of nurturing good soil; a place where we each might grow and toil toward a self-determined truth. Where trans women, undocumented youth, little black boys playing alone in parks each make it home safe at night. Where the light of morning kisses them awake. The work of evolution is not to figure out what the next one hundred years will make. The work of evolution is to plant the seed that will grow into something that from this precipice of history we simply cannot see or know. Nevertheless, will grow until you are the furthest point on the map of a future that looks one hundred years back, perhaps through tears of gratitude to a crowd that looks exactly and nothing like you or us but nevertheless, I trust, will say, “That is why I am here today.” And we will call this evolution. “Not Just Abortions: A Look Into Why Your Opinions About Planned Parenthood May Be Outdated and Why You Should Support Them” Rachel Freed, Brian Botto, Marie Svoboda, Tim Broderick, and Nate Shu Cause: The research PP does to find the cause of reproductive organ related diseases, including but limited to, STDs, Cancers, and UTIs. Goal: Our money will go to making sure this research continues and PP doesn’t get defunded. Presentation: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1UBganUzO_H6lxTUjj9vHrI43We8xoFuSvcBi62HNkvc/edit#slide=id.p Why we need to start fighting to show our support: The reconciliation process prevents Democrats from launching a filibuster against the measure, meaning Republicans won't need 60 votes to win on defunding. Where Money Goes: Abortions accounted for 3 percent of the nearly 10.6 million total services provided by Planned Parenthood clinics in 2013, according to its annual report. Some services it provided in addition to abortions were: 4.5 million tests and treatment for sexually transmitted infections 3.6 million contraception related services 935,573 cancer screenings including breast exams and Pap tests 1.1 million pregnancy tests and prenatal services In 2012, 743 affiliate staff and volunteer educators provided educational programs to more than one million people of all ages and in a variety of settings. PP planned nearly 300 events in 47 states that will include marches, rallies, letter-writing campaigns and other activities over the next few months. Breast exams are crucial for early cancer detection. Not only does Planned Parenthood offer affordable exams, they make sure patients know how to do self-exams between screenings. Planned Parenthood offers free and affordable birth-control options like the pill, the patch, IUDs, and condoms — in addition to emergency contraception like Plan B. Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores: Oral Argument - March 25, 2014

01:28:35
Facts: The Green family owns and operates Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a national arts and crafts chain with over 500 stores and over 13,000 employees. The Green family has organized the business around the principles of the Christian faith and has explicitly expressed the desire to run the company according to Biblical precepts, one of which is the belief that the use of contraception is immoral. Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), employment-based group health care plans must provide certain types of preventative care, such as FDA-approved contraceptive methods. While there are exemptions available for religious employers and non-profit religious institutions, there are no exemptions available for for-profit institutions such as Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. On September 12, 2012, the Greens, as representatives of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., sued Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, and challenged the contraception requirement. The plaintiffs argued that the requirement that the employment-based group health care plan cover contraception violated the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (RFRA). The plaintiffs sought a preliminary injunction to prevent the enforcement of tax penalties, which the district court denied and a two-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit affirmed. The Supreme Court also denied relief, and the plaintiffs filed for an en banc hearing of the Court of Appeals. The en banc panel of the Court of Appeals reversed and held that corporations were "persons" for the purposes of RFRA and had protected rights under the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. Question: Does the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 allow a for-profit company to deny its employees health coverage of contraception to which the employees would otherwise be entitled based on the religious objections of the company's owners? Conclusion: Yes. Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr. delivered the opinion for the 5-4 majority. The Court held that Congress intended for the RFRA to be read as applying to corporations since they are composed of individuals who use them to achieve desired ends. Because the contraception requirement forces religious corporations to fund what they consider abortion, which goes against their stated religious principles, or face significant fines, it creates a substantial burden that is not the least restrictive method of satisfying the government's interests. In fact, a less restrictive method exists in the form of the Department of Health and Human Services' exemption for non-profit religious organizations, which the Court held can and should be applied to for-profit corporations such as Hobby Lobby. Additionally, the Court held that this ruling only applies to the contraceptive mandate in question rather than to all possible objections to the Affordable Care Act on religious grounds, as the principal dissent fears. "The Effect of an Illinois Medicaid Policy Change on IUD Access." Aubrey Jordan

00:10
http://ci3.uchicago.edu "The Effect of an Illinois Medicaid Policy Change on IUD Access." Allison Grubs, Aubrey Jordan, Katherine Karas, Jacqueline Meadow, Elizabeth Munroe, Nita Padavil, Kathryn Sullivan, Ashley Tsang. Pritzker School of Medicine ABSTRACT: Changes to Illinois Medicaid's reimbursement policy for Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) increased financial barriers for Medicaid-eligible women to receive intrauterine devices, (IUDs). Prior to June 2012, Illinois Medicaid listed IUDs as a pharmacy benefit and pharmacies were reimbursed for the full cost of the device under this policy. However, this created a delay in device request and device placement, as physicians had to order IUDs from a pharmacy when their patients requested them. Patients would often not show up for their follow-up appointment to have their IUDs inserted, creating a stockpile of unused IUDs. Under the new policy, providers and clinics are responsible for paying for and stocking IUDs for their patients, transferring the financial burden from the pharmacy to the provider. This project found that the changes to the Medicaid reimbursement policy helped to eliminate IUD waste, as IUDs could be implanted on the same day as an initial visit. However, interviews with providers demonstrated that clinics were negatively impacted by the policy change. Some shouldered the financial burden of the cost of the IUD until Medicaid reimbursement. Some smaller clinics had to refer patients elsewhere as they were unable to purchase IUDs, and confusion around the policy change resulted in clinic halting services under the impression that IUDs were no longer covered by Medicaid. While Medicaid policy dictates that a woman must receive her choice of contraception (including LARC) without cost sharing, the effect of this policy change on clinics resulted in decreased IUD access for the Illinois Medicaid population.

Pope names Cupich as next Chicago archbishop

Pope Francis on Saturday appointed Bishop Blase Cupich, a moderate who has called for civility in the culture wars, as the next archbishop of Chicago, signaling a shift in tone in one of the most important posts in the U.S. church. George, 77, has been battling cancer and has said he believes the disease will end his life. Cupich is Francis' first major appointment in the U.S. and the clearest indication yet of the direction he wants to steer American church leaders. The Archdiocese of Chicago is the third-largest, and one of the most important, dioceses in the country, serving 2.2 million parishioners. Chicago archbishops are usually elevated to cardinal and are therefore eligible to vote for the next pope. George is especially admired in the church's conservative wing as an intellectual who took an aggressive stand against abortion and gay marriage. Cupich has not been among the harder-line bishops and instead has called for a "return to civility" in conversations on divisive social policies. Francis has said he wants church leaders to focus more on mercy and compassion and less on hot-button issues. In 2012, during the run-up to the Washington state referendum that ultimately recognized gay marriage, Cupich repeatedly underscored church teaching that marriage should be between a man and a woman. But he also wrote at length to parishioners about the suffering of gays and lesbians because of anti-gay prejudice, and he condemned violence and bullying that has led some gay teens to suicide. "I also want to be very clear that in stating our position, the Catholic Church has no tolerance for the misuse of this moment to incite hostility toward homosexual persons or promote an agenda that is hateful and disrespectful of their human dignity," Cupich wrote. View galleryFILE - In this June 30, 2010, file photo, Bishop Blase … FILE - In this June 30, 2010, file photo, Bishop Blase Cupich, 61, of Rapid City, S.D., poses for a … In a letter last year on the Obama administration's birth control coverage rule for employers, Cupich said faith-affiliated groups should never be forced to provide services that the church considers morally objectionable. However, he condemned threats by some U.S. church leaders that they would shut down social service agencies over the Affordable Care Act. "These kind of scare tactics and worse-case scenario predictions are uncalled for," he wrote in a letter to diocesan employees. "I am confident we can find a way to move forward." The Rev. John Jenkins, president of the University of Notre Dame, said Cupich "will be a pastorally dedicated, theologically astute and visionary leader in line with Francis' transformative papacy." Michael Sean Winters, a columnist for The National Catholic Reporter who writes about the American bishops, noted that major appointments like the one in Chicago are made in consultation with U.S. church leaders. "The cardinals of the U.S. church, and anyone else the Holy Father consulted, decided that it was important not only to send a bishop to Chicago: they wanted to send a message," Winters said. Cupich, 65, is a native of Omaha, Nebraska, where he was ordained a priest. He holds degrees from the Pontifical Gregorian University and The Catholic University of America. In the 1980s, he worked on the staff of the Vatican embassy in Washington. He was appointed bishop of Rapid City, South Dakota, in 1998, and served there until 2010, when he was appointed to Spokane. Cupich also served as chairman of the U.S. bishops' child protection committee at the height of the clergy sex abuse crisis and as church leaders were putting in place a toughened policy on disciplining guilty priests.

The Real Costs of Teen Motherhood

01:19:54
If you experience any technical difficulties with this video or would like to make an accessibility-related request, please send a message to digicomm@uchicago.edu. America's teen pregnancy rate is among the highest in the developed world, despite consistent declines over the past 15 years. Advances here might be ending, however: the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the rate of teen childbearing increased 3 percent between 2005 and 2006, the first uptick since 1990. Today, three female teenagers out of every ten become pregnant at least once before they turn 20. Teen pregnancy rates are highest among those who are unmarried, and from families that are low-income, minority, and with lower levels of education. This Thursday's Child examines the many costs and varied policy implications of teen motherhood. Panelists discuss the effects teen childbearing has on the life trajectories of the mother and child, the costs to government agencies aiding teens' children, and the increased risks these children face, including maltreatment, being placed into foster care, and incarceration. Private and public programs that reduce teen pregnancy, help teen mothers avoid bearing a second child, and change teen behavior are explored as well. Panelists Sarah Brown, director, The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy Robert Goerge, research fellow, Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago Saul Hoffman, professor and chair, Department of Economics, University of Delaware, and editor of Kids Having Kids: Economic Costs and Social Consequences of Teen Pregnancy Pat Mosena, director, Illinois Subsequent Pregnancy Project, and president, Options for Youth Matthew Stagner, director, Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago (moderator)

"The Effect of an Illinois Medicaid Policy Change on IUD Access." Jacqueline Meadow

http://ci3.uchicago.edu "The Effect of an Illinois Medicaid Policy Change on IUD Access." Allison Grubs, Aubrey Jordan, Katherine Karas, Jacqueline Meadow, Elizabeth Munroe, Nita Padavil, Kathryn Sullivan, Ashley Tsang.

Birth Centres - What are they like to use?

02:49
http://www.which.co.uk/birth-choice/ Three mums tell us why decided to give birth in a birth centre and what their experience was like. Transcription: I discussed it with the midwife at the doctor's surgery and I discussed with her that I'd been around hospital and I didn't get the best feeling and the environment of the birthing center felt much more comfortable and she agreed. I chose the birthing center because I wanted to be in control I wanted it to be peaceful and I just wanted my body to do what it's made to do. The tour of the birthing center was amazing that was the single thing that made me decide to go there...to be able to see that the room is really big and there's a double bed so there was no issue about my husband not being able to stay and that was quite an important factor for me. En suite bathroom so that level of privacy as well. I would say just go and have a look. It was my first water birth...with the pain the water just helped It was absolutely amazing. If I had read that I would have an ambulance waiting outside for me and there were minutes before I had to take get her out, that on paper sounds quite scary, but actually in reality it wasn't and the midwife was going to come with me anyway in the ambulance and stay with me the entire time so that was a real comfort. Even though our birthing center provided gas and air, I didn't use it and it wasn't offered to me and I think that's a massive pro. I went for gas and air and I absolutely loved it I would never do it without gas and air...I wanted to go in the pool but couldn't so I think that I would have struggled without it. Afterwards we got checked out, everything was okay. They put out the double bed for us and they were like 'your partner can stay over' and I was like, oh no, he snores, he's going home! The midwife really helped me in the birth centre: learn how to feed lying down which I did exclusively for the first six weeks after she was born. If you're worried that you won't be able to get to the hospital quick enough, remind yourself that these ladies have done it time and time again, they're never gonna leave it until the last minute for you to go to hospital. Obviously no birth goes to plan but you can plan for it and prepare yourself for it. You've got to believe that you can do it

Saturday, anti-abortion groups have scheduled over 200 protests to take place at several different Planned Parenthood locations. Their goal is to convince President Donald Trump and Congress to completely defund the federal funding the non-profit organization. Eric Scheduler, executive director of Pro-Life Action League, stated, “We have the wind in our sails. The election was a real benchmark. Pro-life voters were really key constituency and the Trump administration has taken note.” In response, Planned Parenthood supporters are planning protests as well to protect the organization. Planned Parenthood is a great and affordable healthcare provider. They provide STD testing, safe and affordable birth control, abortions, and cancer screenings.

Contraception and Conscience: A Broader Focus

01:59:06
This panel is part of Contraception and Conscience: A Symposium on Religious Liberty, Women's Health, and the HHS Rule on Provision of Birth Control Coverage for Employees, a conference examining the legal, theological, health, equality, and ethical issues relating to the recent Rule promulgated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on "Coverage of Preventive Services Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act." The symposium brought together legal, religious, and cultural scholars and practitioners for a day-long conversation about the increasingly contentious public debate surrounding the HHS Rule requiring employers to subsidize preventive health services for employees, the religious accommodations in the HHS rule, and the lawsuits filed by religious objectors challenging the rule. For more on this event, visit: http://bit.ly/TOpHCe For more on the Berkley Center, visit: http://berkleycenter.georgetown.edu How and why did this particular issue engender such concern and controversy? What are the historical antecedents? What does it tell us about how religious communities and institutions (especially those involved in provision of education and social services) can and should navigate rapidly changing norms in the public square? What are the implications of this debate for preventive health services? For women's equality in the workplace and elsewhere in public life? What are the ethical implications for physicians and other health-care providers? DACA and DREAMers: Colorado AG Candidate Phil Weiser's Family History Informs His Views on DACA

00:31
Candidate for Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser's personal family history is intertwined with America's support for immigrants. As Attorney General, he will stand with the DREAMers and support the American Dream for all Coloradans. Phil is running in the Democratic Party Colorado primary for AG because he is optimistic about taking back our democracy in the 2018 election. He learned this optimism and the importance of protecting our democracy from his family - immigrants who survived the Holocaust. Phil knows--just like many Coloradans that he’s talked to across all 64 counties--that we can do better as a state and as a country. Now more than ever, State AGs are the last line of defense between our rights and the overreaching executive and dysfunctional legislative branches: ➡️Fighting for Reproductive Justice--including protection of access to birth control (contraception) and abortion ➡️Standing up for Students by Taking on Betsy DeVos--including protection of campus sexual assault survivors and victims of fraud committed by for-profit colleges ➡️Protecting Access to Healthcare--including protection of key provisions of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), notably cost-sharing subsidies ➡️Safeguarding our Future and Battling Polluting Scott Pruitt--protecting our environment and keeping our air and water clean, including protecting the clean power plan and fuel efficiency and smog standards ➡️Protecting Worker’s Rights--including protecting workers from wage theft, worker misclassification, discrimination in the workplace, equal pay for equal work, retaliation, and upholding the right to organize ➡️Preserving National Monuments and Sacred Land--defending national monument designations and fighting plans to shrink Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments ➡️Blocking the Travel Ban (1, 2, and 3)--defeated all 3 attempts by the Trump administration to order a Muslim Ban ➡️Defending DACA--blocked the Trump administration’s move to abolish the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) ➡️Standing for Equality: Opposing the Transgender Military Ban--halting the discriminatory ban on transgender individuals serving in the military ➡️Questioning Trump’s Business Interests--taking action against Trump for for violating the Emoluments Clause, an anti-corruption clause in the Constitution. ➡️Battling the Opioid Crisis--investigating opioid manufacturers and distributors ➡️Serving as a Consumer Watchdog--including demanding more information on the Uber hack and filing suits after the Equifax breach to taking the FCC to court over Net Neutrality What do Coloradans want in their state AG? True leadership that represents Colorado values: ➡️Leaders who are strong - who will fight against assaults on our freedoms ➡️Leaders who are fair - who will protect all citizens and provide equal opportunities for all ➡️Leaders who are wise - who bring common sense solutions to the challenges we face as a state and a country The AG’s office is Colorado’s biggest law firm and requires a lot of knowledge and experience. Phil is the right person at the right time for this role. As AG, Phil will fight for what we value, by: Standing up to this administration when it overreaches. ➡️Making our elections fairer – fighting against gerrymandering and secret dark money. ➡️Keeping our schools and kids safe from gun violence. ➡️Leading on climate change and protecting our public lands As AG, Phil will protect opportunities for all by creating an even playing field for our rural communities in educating their kids and having access to health care. He knows the law - at both the state and national level ➡️ Clerking for Ruth Bader Ginsburg ➡️Working for Barack Obama in the White House He has practiced law ➡️ Leading litigation against corporate wrongdoers at the Department of Justice under two administrations (Obama and Clinton) But most importantly, he knows how to lead, inspire and manage lawyers ➡️Serving as Dean of CU Law School, leading that large organization of several hundred people effectively and recruiting a diverse group of students and instructors. We need Phil as our next Attorney General because he is committed to defending our freedoms, fighting for opportunities for all, and protecting our land, air, and water. As our next Attorney General, he will make sure we do better here in Colorado and are a model for our nation.

Americans Worry About Health Insurance Replacement

Republicans took their first step toward repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act — more commonly known as Obamacare. The health insurance program was criticized as too expensive with too much regulations. Although Republicans say their replacement plans will be more affordable and easier to use, many Americans are worried about whether the new plan will cover pre-existing conditions. VOA's Carolyn Presutti introduces us to some Americans who rely on the Affordable Care Act. Nancy Pelosi Admits Jail is Perfectly Acceptable for Refusing Socialized Healthcare

03:24
Ron Paul: "If it was a good program and everybody liked it, you wouldn't need 16,500 thugs coming with their guns and putting you in jail if you didn't follow all the rules". Health care bill clears House by narrow margin; legislation now moves to the Senate: http://www.startribune.com/politics/69458492.html http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/healthcare/la-na-healthcare-house8-2009nov08,0,1723384.story Criminal penalties: Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual: • Section 7203 misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year. • Section 7201 felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years. Now a health czar gets to determine what is "adequate healthcare" under this plan, not the individual and not the purchaser. This means you won't get the best healthcare plan for you. Health is individual. WE ARE NOT THE SAME!!! We SHOULD care about the poor. But this bill is about CONTROL, not about helping people. If we could go back to a truly capitalist system, WITHOUT all the welfare and without all the govt handouts, all it would take is hard work to provide for your family and to maintain your healthcare. Socialism is the opposite of Liberty, because Socialism is based on the idea that YOU can be FORCED to help somebody else. These united States of America were founded on the principal that each individual has the unalienable (non-transferable) Right to Liberty. The Declaration of Independence declared that Government is instituted (created) in order to protect your Self-Evident Rights. The government can't even run a "Cash-For-Clunkers" program right. How do you think they're going to do at running YOUR healthcare? Who will hear their cries? The Affordable Care Act has already unleashed a plague on our country: butthurt conservatives, whose butthurt medical needs are being completely ignored. The sound, vigorous spanking by--of all people--Justice Roberts, 30 million Americans getting coverage, and because PREEXISTING CONDITIONS ARE IN THE CONSTITUTION OR SOMETHING has resulted in a wave of redness, welts, and soreness. Judging from symptoms displayed on Facebook, there seems to be no balm, lotion or tincture to soothe their butthurtedness. They can't really move--every other advanced industrial nation has universal access to decent medical care. Matt Garza is a pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, but he’s a person just like the rest of us. He reads Twitter and has opinions on issues. Jessica Chastain is an Academy Award-nominated actress and film producer, and she also has opinions on current issues of the day. She decided to tweet her thoughts about what Congress has been up to lately, namely repealing the contraception mandate that had been part of the Affordable Care Act.The second sentence of her tweet is essentially saying that by denying women access to contraception under their health insurance, the chances of women getting pregnant increases. And considering how poor family and maternity leave policies are in the USA, that keeps women out of the work force. So you might be wondering what Matt Garza has to do with all of this. Well he had an opinion on Jessica Chastain’s opinion, and decided to tweet about it. Since Garza is a human being, he’s allowed to have whatever opinion he wants. But he’s on exceedingly shaky ground if he’s going to publicly explain the virtues of abstinence to an adult woman, especially since he’s a man who doesn’t need to avail himself of birth control. It seems like Garza might not know that contraception is used by more than just teenagers. Women of all ages use it for a variety of medical and health reasons, not just to prevent unintended pregnancy. It can be used to help with painful period-related cramps, to regulate a woman’s cycle, to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder and polycystic ovary syndrome, and many other reasons. A Twitter user quickly educated Garza about her medical reasons for using birth control. if you like this video please leave a like and subscribe. CREATED BY RED FRAX NEWS COMMUNITY

Bernie Sanders For President 2016 Council Bluffs, IA KS mp4

02:02
Bernie Sanders For President 2016 Council Bluffs, IA mp4 Despite major advances in civil and political rights, our country still has a long way to go in addressing the issue of gender inequality. Many of the achievements that have been made for women’s rights in the 20th century have been under attack by the Republican party — denying women control over their own bodies, preventing access to vital medical and social services, and blocking equal pay for equal work. We are not going back to the days when women had to risk their lives to end an unwanted pregnancy. The decision about abortion must remain a decision for the woman and her doctor to make, not the government. We are not going to allow the extreme right-wing to defund Planned Parenthood, we are going to expand it. Planned Parenthood provides vital healthcare services for millions of women, who rely on its clinics every year for affordable, quality health care services including cancer prevention, STI and HIV testing and general primary health care services. The current attempt to malign Planned Parenthood is part of a long-term smear campaign by people who want to deny women in this country the right to control their own bodies. We are not going back to the days when women did not have full access to birth control. Incredibly, almost all of the Republicans in the Senate are in favor of giving any employer who provides health insurance, or any insurance company, the ability to deny coverage for contraception or any other kind of procedure if the employer had a “moral” objection to it. That is unacceptable. We will not go back to the days when survivors of domestic violence had no access to services or recourse against their abusers, because domestic violence was swept under the rug, as a shameful, private issue. Worse yet, it was not so long ago that spousal abuse was legal in many states. We must expand services provided through the Violence Against Women Act and the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act, and fight any attempts to undermine these laws. We are not going back to the days when it was legal for women to be paid less for doing the same work as men. It is wrong that women working full-time only earn 78 cents for every dollar a man earns. We have got to move forward and pass the Paycheck Fairness Law into law. And, not only are we going to expand policies that advance gender equality, we are going to fight to pass the long-overdue Equal Rights Amendment and vigorously defend the critical laws and programs which protect all working people in our country. At a time when elderly women are more likely than men to be living in poverty, not only do we say NO to cuts in Social Security, we will expand Social Security. When 35 million Americans lack health insurance, not only do we say NO to cuts in Medicare and Medicaid, we will expand these programs that are so important to families. https://berniesanders.com Iowa For Bernie 712 323 7232 https://www.facebook.com/Iowa-for-Bernie-Sanders-President-2016-1488186234786468/?fref=ts&ref=br_tf' https://www.facebook.com/iowaforbernie/?fref=ts&ref=br_tf subscribe to our channel https://www.youtube.com/user/ychallenge123
