Why Do Cancer Patients Lose Hair http://drthomaslodi.com/ The question of why do cancer patients lose hair is actually not a valid one. The reason being is that cancer does not cause hair loss. The only exception would be is if you were in the late stages of cancer and were in a state of severe malnutrition for a long period of time. When we see hair loss it’s always due to chemotherapy or radiation but the vast majority is due to the chemo treatments. What chemotherapy does is go after the rapidly dividing cells and it’s more toxic to those cells. Now, our skin is also rapidly dividing as we have new skin over our entire body in about 6 weeks. What is in our skin and part of our skin is what’s called appendages such as hair, hair follicles and glands. So, our hair is also rapidly dividing as it naturally grows and is the reason we need haircuts. The other rapidly dividing cells are in our gastro intestinal cells. We have new linings to our stomach, small intestines and large intestines every 3 days as new cells are rapidly dividing. Any place in the human body that has rapidly dividing cells will be affected by chemotherapy. That’s why we often see people who have started chemo treatments and within a week they have no hair left or have just patches of hair left. And, some people might feel fine even while losing their hair but what happens is once their “toxic cup” is full and more is added, every little bit will cause a problem. Again, hair loss is not caused by cancer it is caused by the conventional therapies and treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. SUBSCRIBE If you like my channel: ► https://bit.ly/2J5HP7j This is Karen, and she wants to tell you about one of the sad episodes of her life. Karen is 15, and some time ago she was about to lose all of her hair that she had been growing all her life. This is what happened. She was born with beautiful dark hair, which they say is a rare thing with newborns. When she was growing up, it got even darker and even more beautiful. Karen stood out in all her pictures right from when she was a small child, as her mom enjoyed giving her different complicated hairstyles every day. The truth is, Karen wasn’t particularly beautiful, so her hair was the thing that made her feel pretty and confident. Every time someone met her for the first time, their first reaction was: “Oh what beautiful hair! Can I touch it?” There are some people who have something unusual about their appearance and who get irritated by this kind of constant touching, but Karen really liked it. As she grew older, Karen started getting a lot of attention from boys. She prefers to think that this was because of her wonderful personality, but she was honest enough to admit that her hair was the reason why they found her attractive. You see, she had never really cut it and it was really, really long. This is why she had always taken good care of it, and at some point, started being too cautious about the health of her hair. For Karen, every hair that was lost was a reason for panic, even if she understood quite well that she was exaggerating the problem. She was so paranoid about it that she started having nightmares about losing her hair lock by lock. She would wake up all scared and sweaty. But don’t think that Karen’s hair was all that she cared about in her life. No one could have called her a shallow person – she did well in her studies and had a lot of hobbies, including sports. And it was because of sports that she started noticing that something was wrong. She was getting tired very quickly; she started losing a lot of weight even though she would eat a lot. Even worse, she got these bumps on her neck that alarmed her mom a lot, so much so that she took her to the ER at once. And after several tests, some of which were pretty painful, she was taken into hospital with a horrible diagnosis. Karen had acute leukemia. You know, that kind of diagnosis that straightaway makes you calculate how much time you have left. She was in a state of shock and didn’t know how she was supposed to feel. The funny thing is, if there was anything funny about this situation, it was the idea that she was going to lose her perfect hair that made her emotional. She would look at the bald heads of other kids in the department and just cry her eyes out. It’s silly, of course, but this was some kind of protective reaction towards the stress she felt. And for Karen, her hair was a symbol of her happy, healthy life that she had now lost. When she was preparing for chemotherapy she didn’t even think about the process or results; instead she could focus only on looking for ways to save her hair. She understood that this was foolish, that she was supposed to be concentrating on keeping her spirits up and fighting the disease, but she just couldn’t help it. Then suddenly help came when she least expected it. Her doctor suggested that she try a new hair loss prevention therapy that essentially meant freezing her scalp during the chemo. It was still undergoing trials, but due to her unusual hair the doctors were interested in how she would react. They said that it was the only credible hope to save her hair, or at least a big part of it. Of course, Karen agreed! So Karen started her chemo more focused and more positive – if you can call yourself positive in such a situation. What’s more important, she now had hope. The hope of saving her hair was closely connected in her mind to the hope of getting better, which is an enormous deal when we are talking about leukemia. She would sit wearing that funny freezing hat getting her therapy and pray that it would go alright. And her prayers were heard. Some time has passed and now she’s in remission, slowly returning to her normal life. And what about her hair? Well, she’s lost some of it, but it still looks good after all the treatment. More importantly, now that she’s a bit older Karen has developed a calmer attitude towards her hair, and she’s not as scared to lose it as much, as she has now knows that when she loses it nothing horrible happens. But she’s convinced that focusing on keeping her hair as a symbol of her healthy life has helped her to fight the disease. She’s glad that’s she still able to tell you this story and thankful to her hair for this. Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com

It's no secret that cancer treatments can cause hair loss, also known as alopecia. With all the changes that come with this diagnosis, baldness is one of the most visible side effects, making it very publicly known that you're going through something that you might not be ready to talk about. This can be particularly troubling for patients who view their hair as a big part of their identity or a security blanket of sorts. For these patients, they might want to ask their doctor about a new advanced technology called cold caps, which has proven to have a high success rate of preventing follicles from falling out. Medical experts from the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City share more about this unique treatment in this video interview with Sonima founder, Sonia Jones.

Aloe Vera for skin, hair, radiation treatment and cancer prevention Cut the Aloe Vera leaf right on the edge, close to the base. There is a dark yellow resin, which must be drained out. Put it in a jar with water until it gets clear, around 10 minutes. Cut the leaf in pieces Use #1: Apply on your skin for relief Peel it and apply the gel on your burnt skin after the radiation session. Radiation oncologists are prescribing it to breast cancer patients for relief and moisturizing the skin during radiation treatment. The gel can be used to relief skin irritation and sunburn as well. The gel will dry and it won’t stick; as it is odorless, you can put your clothes on shortly after. To avoid waste, cut the gel in several layers. Use #2: Eat it, it is good for your hair To avoid it to get spoiled, cut the leaf in pieces, peel them, remove the gel, put the pieces in the ice cube tray and freeze it. You can eat a piece every day – it ‘s like eating a little tasteless jelly. You can add it to your smooth or blend with other fruits. Hi everyone! Apologies for not uploading anything sooner, to be honest it's because I haven't had much cancerous stuff to talk about over the last year (which is a good thing!) but I wanted to make a video which focused on something which, although a key "feature" in a person's cancer journey during treatment, also continues to be a significant component of a patient's recovery...the hair! It's the most obvious thing that people point out to you during and after treatment; how good you look as a baldy, how soft the little squiggly bits are, how jealous they are of your super soft angel curls, the list goes on! It can be a visual way of representing where you're at in your journey....which can be irritating sometimes, especially when you're not taken seriously with the whole "the chemo can't be that bad, you still have hair", or worse "your cancer can't be that bad, you STILL have hair" comments... but on the other side of treatment, to hear "oh wow your hair is getting so long!" and "look at your hair, you look so healthy!" can be so uplifting :D My hair started growing back on 5th April 2012 after my autograft stem cell transplant 2 months earlier, and since then I haven't had a single hair cut until now, 3 years later! I felt that getting my hair cut before then would be like cutting away the progress; that every extra millimetre of growth meant another extra leap further away from being ill. It sounds silly and I was actually getting fed up of having such a long, frizzy, split ended mess of a mop, but I just kept letting it grow. It came back curly, but before I was diagnosed my hair was only very slightly wavy. I thought the curls might straighten out as the hair got older and heavier from the added growth but I was wrong! It looks like the curls may have stopped as my hair is quite straight until about half way down now, but again that might be due to it being weighed down...I guess we shall see after the cut! Either way, my hair is still SO SOFT as it is essentially brand new hair, I haven't dyed it, I don't blow dry or straighten it very often at all and I drown it in conditioner...so that's a plus! For those who are interested in how long it will take for their hair to grow back, my hair after 3 years with no hair cut was 45 cm (18 inches) long! This is about average according to the internet, which says hair grows about 15 cm a year. I'm sure other factors would affect growth speed such as climate (my hair grows faster in summer, which doesn't last long in the UK!), diet, medication, products and things like using hair dye or a lot of heat styling, but roughly 3 years of growth will result in hair which is past the shoulders :) I got it cut last week and I'm glad I did, finally my hair has a style rather than ridiculous layers from each hair being the exact same length, and the split ends are gone so it looks less messy, yay! If you're interested in donating your hair or learning more about the Little Princess Trust, check them out here: http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/ Hope everyone is doing well, keep me posted on where you're at in your cancer journey :) Lots of love!! New technology is being used to assist with preventing hair loss in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments through the use of a hair cap. The gel-filled caps, are worn before, during and after chemo-treatments. Prior to being worn the caps are stored in dry ice at a temperature of 32 degrees below zero. The cooled caps constrict blood vessels which prevent the chemotherapy from being delivered to hair follicles. . Caps are rotated out every 30 minutes and must be contained at a certain temperature to be truly effective for the patients. There is a risk factor noted. Developing cancer in the scalp later is possible. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/17/health/breast-cancer-scalp-cooling-prevent-hair-loss/index.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

There there is hormone imbalance due to high levels of DHT (potent type of testosterone). Both of these problems can be resolved by taking trace minerals, B-vitamins (including biotin), vitamin C and silica. Then also taking Stinging Nettle Root which inhibits DHT. This helps alopecia and male pattern baldness. Dr. Berg talks about the best remedy to regrow hair. * Cancer Hair Loss Help Tips* Welcome to my first video showing you how I coped with hair loss during my chemotherapy treatment:) I have posted this video as a way to try and help people cope during this difficult time. I used this method to help combat my hair loss, as using a wig was not something that worked for me, personally. Chemo treatment can take a lot out of you, but I found this hair loss quick fix really did help me adapt and cope better with what I was going through. It boosted my confidence and made me feel more comfortable facing each day. I'd love to hear your thoughts, I hope this video has been beneficial to you.

Offering a potential baldness cure, researchers reported Friday, drugs developed to fight cancer and rheumatoid arthritis might work as creams to stimulate hair growth. While cancer treatments are usually associated with hair loss, some specialized drugs called JAK inhibitors can actually help hair grow. Angela Christiano and colleagues at Columbia University have been testing them as treatments for a rare form of hair loss called alopecia areata. The condition is caused by the immune system's mistaken attack on hair follicles. The drugs work by suppressing inappropriate immune responses and help rheumatoid arthritis and some forms of blood cancer that involve immune cells. http://feeds.nbcnews.com/c/35002/f/663303/s/4aed1df9/sc/14/l/0L0Snbcnews0N0Chealth0Chealth0Enews0Ccancer0Edrug0Ecould0Ebe0Ebaldness0Eremedy0Etoo0En450A256/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

I have very fine hair, but every hairdresser I've ever been to says that even though it's fine I have A LOT of it! I still have enough hair to look normal but it is thinning especially on the side that I sleep on most often. I am thankful that I have not needed a wig up until this point. I was fortunate enough to connect with a hairdresser who gives wigs to cancer patients as long as they have a prescription. How wonderful is that? Durning our consultation she even let me get a nice wash and blow dry which was wonderful. There is nothing like getting you hair washed and dried when all you"ve been doing is bending over the sink in the kitchen to wash because your too tired to take a shower and put the that huge plastic sleeve over your PICC line. Those are the little things that make having cancer so much easier. I am still searching for other things that cancer patients and other bedridden patients should be able to have such as a house cleaning service. There seems to be a lot more options for women with breast cancer because it gets more press than any other kind of cancer. But I will let you know if I find something. Do you guys know of any services that would be of help to a person like me or to my closest family members who spend countless hours taking care of me while also taking care of their own stuff too? All organic: carrots, celery, cucumber, turmeric, ginger, lettuce, kale, lemons, 50billion probiotics, full spectrum CBD oil and most importantly, LOVE! Why would I drink this? It's because cancer cannot live in an oxygen rich environment and that's exactly what these vegetables do in my stomach. I imagine these little green goblins running around kicking ugly orange yellow pussing cancer ass . The probiotics are supposed to help my good gut bacteria to fight the bad gut bacteria. Do you know that 80% of your immune system lives in your gut?! Did you know that chemotherapy kills good and bad cells which means that my immune system has been compromised? It's my duty to help my body heal to continue to fight to the best of its ability. I enjoy drinking these veggie juices especially ones with a lot of lemon. I'm not joking you, my three-year-old son drank two of these juices so far because he said it tasted like lemonade and I was a very happy mother to see him drinking all of that good stuff! Have you guys ever tried a veggie juice? PS: I could also make a smoothie but I am removing all of the fiber from the vegetables because it's hard to digest and since I have a compromised stomach because I have stomach cancer I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for my body to get the nutrients it needs to be strong and healthy. #eatwell #livewell #letfoodbethymedicine #alkalizeyourbody #bringontheveggies #ittastesrefreshing #myfiancécandrinkit #hehatesveggies

FRIDAY, Dec. 9, 2016 (HealthDay News) -- Cooling the scalp with a specialized cap during chemotherapy sessions could help breast cancer patients avoid treatment-related hair loss, new research suggests. In a clinical trial involving women with early stage breast cancer, just over half who underwent scalp-cooling throughout at least four cycles of chemotherapy retained their hair, though some thinning may have occurred. "When you lose your hair, everyone knows you're sick and looks at you differently," said study author Dr. Julie Rani Nangia, explaining the potential impact of cold cap use. http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2016/12/09/Cold-caps-may-prevent-hair-loss-in-breast-cancer-patients-Study/4371481293819/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
