The Canadian Arthritis Network Legacy Video - The Impact of Arthritis Research in Canada
Visit our legacy website at www.can.arthritisalliance.ca . We want you to think about something that affects one in six Canadians. Odds are it will target you or somebody close to you. Yet it is viewed as a malady that afflicts only the elderly. The good news is that in the past years, we have come a long, long way in our search for treatments and even cures. For us, at the Canadian Arthritis Network, it has been a fascinating and rewarding journey. And though we are stepping off the train, this is by no means the final station. There is still much further to go. The journey will continue, until arthritis becomes merely a footnote in medical history, and all Canadians are freed from the shackles of pain.

How to make diseases disappear | Rangan Chatterjee | TEDxLiverpool
Can you actually make a disease disappear? Dr Rangan Chatterjee thinks you can. Often referred to as the doctor of the future, Rangan is changing the way that we look at illness and how medicine will be practised in years to come. He highlighted his methods in the groundbreaking BBC TV show, Doctor In The House, gaining him much acclaim from patients, his contemporaries and the media. He is the author of the international bestseller, The 4 Pillar Plan - http://amzn.to/2yGfpuB which has been released in the USA and Canada under the title, How to Make Disease Disappear - https://amzn.to/2GstJf6 Rangan’s 15 years of clinical experience in the NHS includes internal medicine, immunology and general practice. A pioneer in the emerging field of progressive medicine, he also uses techniques from other disciplines he has studied including movement kinetics and functional medicine. His own journey of learning was accelerated when family members fell ill and now Rangan is helping people to take control of their health by addressing the root causes of their illnesses, something which is often not achieved in 21st century health care, evidenced by a steady increase in the rates of chronic disease. Rangan is a super-generalist, looking at as many factors as possible which can create wellness or illness. His talk is testament to how our thinking around the concept of disease needs to change to help form a map for future healthcare. Arthritis Care | diabetes hand pain
http://www.arthritistreatmentcenter.com Another association that doesn’t make sense but here it is anyway next… Erosive Hand OA May Be Associated With Diabetes. Nancy Walsh writing in Medpage Today reported that according to a study published in the journal Arthritis Care & Research, “diabetes was strongly associated with hand pain and joint tenderness in patients with erosive hand osteoarthritis (OA).” The 530-patient analysis revealed that “pain as measured on the Australian-Canadian (AUSCAN) hand pain scale was associated with diabetes among patients who had one or more joints with central erosions detected radiographically.” In addition, there was “a strong association between diabetes and the number of hand joints that were tender on palpation, but again only in patients with erosive disease. Bone Marrow Stem Cell Treatment (BMAC) for Knee Osteoarthritis - Mayo Clinic
Shane Shapiro, M.D., orthopedic physician at Mayo Clinic in Florida, discusses a regenerative medicine clinical research trial to treat knee arthritis, which is the bone marrow stem cell treatment (BMAC) for knee osteoarthritis. Mayo Clinic and the Mayo Center for Regenerative Medicine is studying biologically based non-surgical treatments for osteoarthritis. One such treatment is the harvesting of the patient's own stem cells from their bone marrow. "In our procedure we draw cellular rich bone marrow from both sides of the pelvis. We then filter the resulting product and concentrate the stem cells and their corresponding growth factors. Using an ultrasound to image the knee joint, we are then able to precisely inject the cells into the arthritic knee. We are currently demonstrating that this procedure is safe and can relieve pain. We also hope to be able to slow the progression of the degenerative joint disease and perhaps one day regrow cartilage in the arthritic joint." ----- See video of this procesure here: http://youtu.be/yUfuhLOgeBw (WARNING: graphic due to the nature of actual surgery footage) Learn more about the Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Medicine here: http://goo.gl/rnRdtU ----- Mayo Clinic... Lupus: An increasing cause of death among females
A medical condition called Lupus has been found to be the leading cause of death among females in some countries. A recent study published in the Arthritis & Rheumatology journal shows that this chronic inflammatory disease now ranks higher than diabetes and HIV. Although there is no known cure, experts say pursuing a healthy lifestyle, including a diet and supplements may help manage the symptoms. To discuss this further, we're now Lolo Lekgoane, who is living with the condition as has her own foundation to raise awareness. And from our Parliament studios in Cape Town, we're also joined by Giulia Criscuolo, pharmacist of complementary medicines expert and life coach For more news, visit: sabcnews.com

Chondroitin vs Celecoxib Knee OA Progression
What’s the best drug for delaying knee replacement… next Study finds best anti-inflammatory for delaying knee osteoarthritis’ progression Michael Johnsen writing for Drug Store News reported chondroitin sulfate is superior to an anti-inflammatory drug, celecoxib, for delaying the progression of knee osteoarthritis, according to a new study presented by Jean-Pierre Pelletier, from the University of Montreal (Canada), at the official press conference of the Annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology. The study, named MOSAIC, was a multicenter, randomized, double blind, controlled and comparative study analyzing chondroitin sulfate and celecoxib. The study recruited 194 patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis with inflammation and moderate pain. Participants were divided into two groups: the first group received 1,200 mg of pharmaceutical grade chondroitin sulfate (made by Bioiberica) per day, while the second group received 200 mg of celecoxib per day, over a two-year period. The participants underwent three Quantitative Magnetic Resonance scans: one at the beginning of the study, a second one after one year, and a third one at the end of the study. The results revealed that the progression of knee osteoarthritis is slower in patients receiving chondroitin sulfate. More precisely, this group experienced a statistically significant lower loss of cartilage volume after the first year of treatment, in comparison with those patients who received the anti inflammatory drug. “This data proves that chondroitin sulfate may delay the advance of osteoarthritis in the long term, and that it had a disease-modifying effect,” affirmed Pelletier. The study also evaluated the effects of both drugs on pain, function, stiffness, joint efflux and swelling; concluding that both treatments were equally efficient across the entire study, reaching a clinically relevant symptom improvement of around 50%. “The study confirmed that both drugs are efficient for the treatment of osteoarthritis symptoms, although only chondroitin sulfate has the additional advantage of exerting a joint protection effect and a better safety profile,” Pelletier said. Comment: a neutriceutical that outperforms a pharmaceutical. Wow!! A very promising method for regenerating cartilage…

CBD Oil Side Effects Warning (Do Not Buy CBD Until You See This)
3 simple tips to follow before buying: 1. Always check the CBD purity, it should be 50% and more. 2. Choose products made in the US or Canada. Due to strict regulations this is your quality guarantee. 3. Do not expect to purchase quality and safe to use CBD oil for pennies. High quality CBD oil should cost at least $45-$50. Choose another product if that amount puts you into an uncomfortable situation financially. Brands that I trust and recommend: 1. Verified CBD Oil (http://verifiedcbd.com). This is probably the oldest brand of CBD I know. Tons of success stories and quality I have tested myself - these are the reasons I have been recommending this brand to my friends and family for years. The only downside is that due to their recent TV "fame" they are often out of stock and can be hard to get. Official website: http://verifiedcbd.com Benefits and Side Effects of CBD Oil Cannabidiol, or CBD as it is commonly known, is a very interesting chemical. And it is responsible for many people changing their views on marijuana use for medicinal purposes. While everyone has heard of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), not many are aware of CBD. The two chemicals are both contained in marijuana, but they serve very different purposes. While the THC in marijuana is will get you high, CBD is a chemical with many benefits from a medicinal point of view - and it does not have the same side effects on the body as THC. What are the Health Benefits of CBD Oil? The ingredient CBD has been used for many years to make several products. One of these products is CBD oil. According to many studies which have carried out on this product, there are many different health benefits associated with it. First and foremost, it can help people who are experiencing excessive nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy or some other type of medical treatment. It is also great at reducing the seizures some people get on a regular basis. Another benefit of CBD oil is how it helps combat inflammation and neuro-degenerative disorders. It is also great for anxiety and depression sufferers. So if you are suffering from one of these conditions, you may want to talk to your physician about the possibility of getting on CBD oil for a few months. CBD oil also contain various o nutrients like carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins such as vitamin B1, B2, B6, D and E, trace minerals such as calcium, iron zinc, magnesium potassium, and several other compounds required by the human body for healthy functioning, such as chlorophyll, carotene, ketones, glycosides, nitrogen-based compounds, etc.. Unlike THC, CBD oil doesn't make you high. The CBD in these this product will not make you feel the same as the THC does. This is because THC is a psychoactive chemical whereas CBD is not. It does not act in the same manner when it comes into contact with your brain's pathways. It does not interfere with your psychological or psychomotor functions either. For those who want a simpler explanation: CBD oil is 100% safe and won't get you high! Are there Any Side Effects of CBD Oil? Whereas CBD oil has been proven safe for human consumption, some researches done on it have identified a possibility of side effects in patients taking the oil. One study which was published in 1886 in the International Journal of Neuroscience showed that CBD oil could cause some mild side effects in patients with dystonia. These side effects include dry mouth, hypotension, sedation, psychomotor slowing, and lightheadedness. However, there are no side effects which have been reported when CBD is taken in high doses. As you can see, you should not worry when taking CBD oil as its side effects are very mild. Buy CBD oil today and experience the many benefits associated with it.
