Visit http://moldingminds.com for a one-sheet poster description and definition of fantasy: http://moldingminds.com/video-fiction-genres-fantasy/ What are fantasy books? What are the elements of fantasy? Most chapter books belong to a literary genre called fiction, but we sometimes split those into more specific book genres, like fantasy fiction. This video helps explain what are fantasy books and what is the fantasy genre for kids and elementary students (and teachers) studying literature genres, using animated motion graphics and Lego minifigures.

This guided reading lesson was taken with 1st grade students working independently in Level C. The book I chose was their instructional Level D and the genre was fiction. The title was called 'Sam and the Waves,' and I wanted to be as explicit as possible in my book introduction and ask the students about their experience with 'waves' at the beach instead of having them tell me 'all about the beach.' I also used the same sentence structure that is in the text "...they ran down to the beach" because the students would be encountering some high frequency words they weren't familiar with. As students were reading, I monitored and prompted as needed working on phonics, intonation, and fluency. After reading, I brought the group back together to focus on comprehension questions. I wanted the students to use the book to provide evidence to support their answers.

Transcript The writing to learn online course has a complete set of tools and lesson plans to help you implement instruction. Tools that are designed for every grade level and every skill level from special needs to Gen ed. Your tools and lesson plans can always be found here on the right side of your screen, on your phone they're found at the bottom of the screen. Click on the tools bar and you'll see your k through six or six through 12 tools depending on which course you are logged into. In this case, we are viewing the k through six course. Scroll down to view the tool packets for each genre opinion, informative and narrative, and within each genre you will find the pdf for downloading organized in tools and lesson plans. We also include word documents that you can edit. Let's look at the tools packet for the opinion genre, grade levels k through six. Here we will find all the pdfs to browse, download, or print all the tools you need from fidelity. Checklists to graphic organizers, model essays to scoring rubrics, goal setting tables, strategy charts, and so much more. You will also find different tools for different skill levels. For example, the strategy tree is for k through three, but tree plus l l adds links and language for more sophisticated students. The same for scoring rubrics. Here's the difference between earlier grades and later grades. Essays are simpler, early on and longer as students grow, and you can print out individual items or entire packets for the genre you'll use. Let's look at the lesson plans. You will use these as a guide modified to fit into your curriculum. Each lesson plan takes you through all six stages of SRSD, and when the lesson plan calls for a tool, you'll know where to get all the levels you need. You will find the same three packet types within other genres for narrative and informative. Now, let's look at the word documents that you can edit. Simply click the bar and they will automatically download. These are word documents that you can modify color-code print, or simply put on your desktop. In the grade levels six through 12 course, you will find strategies for the higher level. Student opinion becomes argument, for example, but the contents remain the same. Strategies, however, are more sophisticated. The challenge, the higher level learning for all three genres in the argument genre. For example, we asked students to first plan they're writing, compose an introduction, then work on the body and conclusion. See, space helps older students write stories in the narrative genre. We even include a close reading strategy as it relates to writing. As you can see, we include an exhaustive library of tools and lesson plans. Feel free to print out the entire tool packet for your genre and refer to it as you take the writing to learn course.

We make animated math videos and educational songs for kids that bring joy back into math class and make it cool again! Up until today, we have created nearly 30 animated music videos that cover mathematical concepts for 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, and 5th Grade; concepts like, Rounding Numbers, Ordering Decimals, Subtraction, 3D Shapes, Types of Angles and much more! We're curious to see how our teaching resource will be used now that we have shared them with a broader audience. Thanks for your interest. How did NUMBEROCK begin? When you look at the entertainment that’s being produced for kids in games and movies, it’s no wonder that kids are starting to zone out in school. During the last 7 years as an elementary public school teacher, I’ve always tried to find new ways to capture my students’ full attention, especially for that one subject that gets such a notoriously bad rap in elementary school – math. One day I brought my guitar in to school to play a song I’d written about Long Division that was accompanied by some simple animations I’d made. While not all my students liked the folk rock genre, I could tell I had everyone’s attention. Soon I began writing songs in genres that my students actually listened to: rap, rock, pop, country, you name it. Parents would tell me that their kids were singing the songs in the car, at dinner, even teaching them to their siblings. Almost in disbelief that kids were singing my math songs for fun outside of school, I felt encouraged and inspired to keep writing. Then, three years ago, I had one of those ‘AHA!’ moments: to write a song with a simple animation for every math concept I had to teach. Altogether, from 2008 to now, I’ve written songs for nearly 50 concepts, 30 of which are now professionally animated. Lesson materials to help maximize learning for those 30 songs are available at "Teachers Pay Teachers", a website where teachers, homeschoolers, and parents can buy high quality learning materials. I hope your student(s) will find a renewed passion for math as they access the NUMBEROCK method.

This was a lesson I video taped for my Master's program in International Education. This lesson marks the beginning of our unit on literary genres. In this part of the lesson I used a PowerPoint to introduce 9 different genres to the students. Prior to this the students had small group discussion about the prior knowledge on the topic. My goal for this lesson was to have better pacing and end each activity on time. In the end we had a good discussion, but the bell rang before I could finish the PowerPoint. Because this class lasted for two blocks, I was able to continue after giving them a five min. break. After this lecture the students worked together in small groups to investigate sample text in order to figure out each text's genre. This one of my favorite classes Jincai International school in Shanghai. I think they did a very good job!
