The Best Structured Resource Room Ever!

07:12
http://www.behaviorcommunicates.com Do you have a small room where you bring a few students at a time for some kind of instruction or therapy? Let me just say that structure is your friend, my friend. When you have students coming and going, there is an art to making that happen smoothly. I’ve asked one of my teachers to share with you how she took some time to make her already structured resource room even better!

The Best Resource Room Ever UPDATED!

08:53
http://www.behaviorcommunicates.com About 4 years ago I asked one of the teachers I work with if she would share with our viewers how she organized her room with structure and visual supports for her students with resource services. Now, Chloe Diedam has a new and much larger classroom space that she has organized like a pro! She has created a peaceful, functional, and effective space for students to come to during the school day to get social skill training or to reset themselves emotionally. Take a look.

The Teachers' Room: Correcting errors

05:44
There are lots of things to take into consideration when correcting errors. It's important to think about the purpose of the activity. Guide students to the answer. Peer correction is a great idea. Keep in mind the activity – accuracy or fluency? Use body language for on-the-spot correction. Delayed correction is better in a fluency activity. Don't forget to praise too! Top 10 Proven Classroom Management Tips for Teachers

04:05
Tweet this Video: http://clicktotweet.com/UfFee http://www.ampli.com/ Like us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AmplivoxPortableSoundSystemsandLecterns Classroom management Definition: "A term used by teachers to describe the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students." Listed below are several techniques, ideas, resources, and tips for teachers to hone the right skills to conquer their classroom: 1. Start the year tough. Many teachers make the mistake of starting the school year with a poor discipline plan or without any classroom management plan at all. It is so much easier to start tough and then lighten up, then to start light and discipline more. At the beginning of the year, students quickly assess the situation and realize what they will be allowed to get away with. Starting the year tough will give you control and flexibility. 2. Be fair to all students. 3. Be prepared for disruptions---and don't let them phase you. Students often amplify their teacher's reaction to disruptions—be ready for them and be ready to calmly and quickly pick up where you left off. Having a joke or interesting comment ready to bring attention back to you will allow you to transition back to the material. 4. Instill high expectations 5. Incentivize good behavior. Motivating students though rewards like no homework, watching a video, ice cream, or free-activity time can help students by giving them a goal. This can also help students hold each other accountable to class goals and stigmatize negative behavior even more. 6. Overplan. 7. Have a clearly expressed disciplinary plan...with consequences! Make sure students know the disciplinary ladder well. Any hint of ambiguity can leave a loophole for excuses (and students are great at making excuses!). Warn students when they are close to breaking a rule so there will be no ambiguity when that line is crossed. If you constantly raise your voice to get the attention of the class, consider investing in a classroom amplification system which can save your voice by projecting it. The iPod Portable PA system is a great system for classrooms because it features an iPod dock that simultaneously plays and charges your iPod and also has outputs for a projector. 8. Focus on relationships. A teacher than can connect positively with their students will make students behave and easier to manage because students will regard the teacher much like a friend. Using positive reinforcement to build a positive reputation for the child gives the student confidence that their teacher believes in them and will make it harder to disappoint the teacher with bad behavior or work ethic. 9. Be careful about confrontation 10. Be patient and keep practicing. Don't worry if things don't go well right away...controlling your classroom is learn-able but will always be a challenge with some students. Whether you are teach a kindergarten class, at an elementary school, middle school, or high school, it is best to "Expect the Unexpected" and be ready for adversity! 5th Grade Reading & Writing Lessons - Part 1

03:21
Imagine instead of starting with minimal vocabulary basal readers, first, second and third grade students are able to read such books as Where the Wild Things Are, The Velveteen Rabbit and Charlotte's Web, respectively. Imagine all students, whatever their socio-economic group, ethnicity or native language (even those at Title 1 schools or those in ESL/ELL programs), all succeeding in learning how to spell, write and read. Imagine a recently completed four-year study by Arizona State University showing one group of students — using a particular method to learn how to spell, write and read — having significantly higher achievement test scores when compared to those using other reading programs. And imagine a method where every parent and teacher can help children develop essential critical thinking skills and instill a love of learning and reading that will last a lifetime It's called "The Writing Road to Reading©," an integrated, multisensory, research-based, language arts curriculum using the principles of instruction in The Spalding Method®. Training in "The Writing Road to Reading" curriculum is offered exclusively through Spalding Education International (SEI). SEI's mission is to increase literacy for all children and adults by using The Spalding Method to develop skilled readers, critical listeners, and accomplished writers and spellers. The late Romalda B. Spalding, author of "The Writing Road to Reading," founded the organization in 1986. Now in its 6th revised edition, "The Writing Road to Reading" has stood the test of time because IT WORKS. This video excerpt shows The Spalding Method in action in a 5th grade classroom. (To order the complete video or any other educational videos, visit our store: http://spalding.org/store/index.php.) "The Writing Road to Reading" helps children develop essential critical thinking skills and instills a love of learning and reading that will last a lifetime. Instead of starting with minimal vocabulary basal readers, first, second and third grade students are able to read such books as Where the Wild Things Are, The Velveteen Rabbit and Charlotte's Web, respectively. How can you achieve success with The Spalding Method? Simple. Success is achieved by those who invest in the authorized curriculum (including "The Writing Road to Reading" and Spalding's Teacher's Guides) AND commit to learning how to teach the curriculum with fidelity by enrolling in Spalding's Writing Road to Reading courses (http://www.spalding.org/index.php?tname=professional%20development). A Review of Zoom.us for Teaching Online Lessons

08:57
http://www.teachingeslonline.com/resources-teaching-english-online ← Click here to download your free guide to the tools you need to teach online. ---- In this video, I show you inside the video platform called Zoom, and go into depth on what it offers. The biggest advantage of using Zoom is that it provides excellent connection, which is especially advantageous if you have low bandwidth. Additionally, the use of the annotations when sharing a screen (to be used like a whiteboard) can make the lesson much more interactive. One cool feature is that you can record your lessons, which are saved on your hard drive. You can schedule recurring lessons, add events to your calendar, use chat and have it sent to you, and there are many other features too. The one drawback in my view is that a lot of your learners won't have heard of Zoom. This would mean having to help them getting set up. Please let me know your thoughts below this video. Oh, and if you want more FREE tips and resources to help with tough groups of students - head over to my website to download the free resources from the home page: www.needsfocusedteaching.com Suggested Settling Starter Activities: The following generic activities all work as ‘Settling Starters’ depending on the subject/topic … • Copying sections of text from a book • Drawing and labeling a diagram • Practicing filling in ‘real-life’ forms such as application forms • Puzzles and mind-benders • Hobby or topic work – producing a booklet about their favourite subject • Silent reading (Only use books they actually ENJOY reading!) • Producing a poster • Colouring (It’s amazing how relaxing and absorbing it can be to simply colour in an outline drawing carefully. Very ‘Zen’!) • Writing a diary/journal entry • Cloze activities • Reading comprehension (Only use books they actually ENJOY reading!) • ‘Treasure hunt’ or comprehension activities – finding information from given sources • Watching a video (Give each student a sheet with simple comprehension questions about the video clip – it helps keep them focused) • ‘Getting to Know You’ activities. These are my favourite because as well as occupying students, you get to learn all about their likes/dislikes, passions, hobbies etc. and as I mentioned above, this information is crucial for having conversations & building relationships with them. Don't forget to head over to www.needsfocusedteaching.com to get your free resources. Have a nice day... :-)

Space saving furniture that transforms 1 room into 2 or 3

08:04
Resource Furniture sells bookshelves, couches and desks- and a combination of the above- that are so highly engineered that they gracefully transform into beds. Gone is the amusing awkwardness of Murphy Beds, this more modern transforming furniture (much of it designed and made in Italy y Clei) is high style and almost, well, magical. Hydraulics make the transition from bookshelf or couch to bed a smooth and effortless thing to marvel. BBC DESIGN RULES 1st EPISODE: SPACE AND PLANNING

28:27
Space and Planning Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen gets right down to the fundamentals of design in this fascinating back-to-basics series. He tackles real problems in real homes as he explores six themes: space, colour, light, texture and pattern, balance and order, and personality. In addition to his own in-depth knowledge of design principles, Laurence calls on a colour forecaster, psychologists and a perception specialist to explain and demonstrate the science behind the how and the why. Taking a real home where a design problem is all too apparent, he demonstrates some simple psychology and basic experiments in a 'design lab' back at the studio -- and it's all done without knocking down walls or spending big bucks. Space comes under the spotlight in the first programme. Lack of space is a common problem in British homes which, surprisingly, have 20 square metres less space than Japanese homes, with an average of only 120 square metres. "The cardinal sin that the British indulge in beyond any other nation is the concept of agoraphobic furniture that feels it needs to keep its back against the wall at all times in case something unpleasant happens to it!" quips Laurence. By painting the walls a paler colour, bringing the outside inside by strategically placing an eye-catching object outside the window and switching to light-reflecting flooring, the brain is deluded into thinking that the room is bigger. Suddenly, the crowded living room is calmer and seems larger -- thanks to a little bit of science and the tricks of design rules. Eye brain specialist Dr Ione Fine comments: "Half of interior design is illusion."And on a practical note, Laurence shows why it's better to buy a couple of two-seater sofas -- because three people never sit on a three-seater! Please, enjoy it!
