Leukemia is a collection of cancers which create a large amount of immature blood cells. These immature blood cells take up space in the bone marrow, preventing the bone marrow from making healthy blood cells such as platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells. But when the transformation goes wrong, harmful mutations can cause the cells to start replicating without control -- a type of cancer known as leukemia. Danilo Allegra and Dania Puggioni explain how this happens and how certain treatments provide hope for those suffering from the disease. http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org Our bodies are made up of millions of tiny little things called cells. That's more than the grains of sand on a small beach. Actually, cells are even smaller than grains of sand. A million cells can be the size of one grain of sand. Not only are cells very tiny, but we also have different types of cells in our bodies. We have cells in our hair, in our skin and in our blood. Blood cells are made through a special process inside your bones, in a soft and spongy material called bone marrow. Bone marrow is like a factory that builds cells. These cells come out as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets. Each cell has a different job to do. Red blood cells give energy to your body. White blood cells fight off disease. And platelets help your body stop bleeding if you get a cut. Some cells don't grow properly. These cells are known as cancer cells. And they don't behave like normal cells. In leukemia, the white blood cells, the ones that fight off infection, are the ones that don't grow up as expected and can't do their jobs. There are other problems with cancer cells, too. For example, when they multiply and divide, they do not know when to stop and when to die off. And they will destroy good cells close to them. To help you get better, doctors will give you medicines called chemotherapy to get rid of all of the unhealthy cells. You can get this medicine through something called a central line or as a pill. The medicine is very strong and can destroy some healthy cells, too, which can make you feel tired and weak. You could also lose some of your hair. This is OK, though, as your bone marrow can always make more healthy cells. And your hair will grow back. The important thing is making sure all the unhealthy cells are completely gone so you can feel better again. Now, let's show the basics about leukemia. There are a few important things to remember: Your cancer is not contagious. It's not your fault. Many other kids have leukemia, too. Even some of the doctors and nurses may have had leukemia. It's really important to remember that you are being taken care of by some of the best people in the country. Cincinnati Children's is here to answer your questions. So don't be afraid to ask.

Roman Reigns Leukemia Update! What is Leukemia?

02:56
THINERGY: https://amzn.to/2CU8ZPc WWE wrestler Roman Reigns revealed live on Monday Night Raw that his cancer is back. This is Watson from Worlds Greatest Medical and today we are going to discuss likely treatment options and give you a little bit of information about the former WWE Universal Champion. Speaking before a clearly surprised Rhode Island audience, the 33-year-old WWE Universal Champion, whose real name is Leati Joseph Anoa’i, said his 11-year battle with leukemia will prevent him from competing in the sport until further notice. He said it also means he would have to give up his belt. 'My real name is Joe. And I've been living with leukemia for 11 years. And unfortunately, it's back. 'And because the leukemia is back, I cannot fulfill that role. I can't be that fighting champion, and I'm going to have to relinquish the WWE Universal Championship.' For treatment, it is likely the Roman Reigns will receive Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy for leukemia often consists of giving several drugs together in a set regimen. Because each medication destroys tumor cells in different ways, a combination of drugs may make the cells more vulnerable to treatment. Common side effects of chemotherapy are as follows: Fatigue. Hair loss. Easy bruising and bleeding. Infection. Anemia (low red blood cell counts) Nausea and vomiting. Appetite changes. Constipation. Reigns was first diagnosed with the cancer of blood-forming tissues at the age of 22. He had a successful football career at Georgia Tech prior to it. After his speech, he was met by fellow wrestlers Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, the latter of whom was clearly struck by Reigns’s speech. ‘Reigns is taking his battle with leukemia public in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease,’ WWE said in a statement. Leukemia: What is leukemia? | Norton Cancer Institute

01:43
Don A. Stevens, M.D., Medical Oncologist at Norton Healthcare, explains what leukemia is and how this type of blood cancer affects the body. Leukemia is a blood disorder or blood cancer that typically has an excess of white corpuscles that are immature. These are cells that are not really capable of doing their job but at some point in the maturation process they've gone from the benign to malignant. A consequence of that is that they over grow the normal cells. In leukemias we generally will divide them and there are many different types but we generally will divide them between the acute leukemias and the chronic leukemias. The biggest distinguishing factor between those two is not only the pace at which it develops, the acute being faster than the chronic, but what consequences that we see. In acute leukemias we see that the bad cells over grow the good cells very quickly. In the case of the chronic leukemias, typically the bad cells will coexist with the normal cells. So the acute leukemia cells have a negative impact on your normal blood cell growth. We'll see patients, for example, they will have a low platelet count which can lead to bleeding so one of the symptoms for acute leukemias may be bleeding but not so much with chronic leukemias where the platelet count can remain normal for quite some time in that illness. So there's some differences in acute and chronic in the symptoms that patients have, the problems that patients have when they first present with their leukemia. Is leukemia genetic | leukemia heredity

18:12
Is leukemia genetic Subscribe My Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSQ9jXeLYjPBltSL9zCRvPQ Video Url: https://youtu.be/TMwtrKvDqC8 The exact cause of leukemia is not known, but it is thought to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Leukemia cells have acquired mutations in their DNA that cause them to grow abnormally and lose functions of typical white blood cells. It is not clear what causes these mutations to occur. One type of change in the cells' DNA that is common in leukemias is known as a chromosome translocation. In this process, a portion of one chromosome breaks off and attaches to a different chromosome. One translocation seen in almost all cases of CML and in sometimes in other types of leukemia is an exchange of DNA between chromosomes 9 and 22, which leads to what is known as the Philadelphia chromosome. This creates an oncogene cancer-promoting gene known as BCR-ABL. This change in DNA is not inherited but occurs sometime in the life of the affected individual. Most cases of leukemia are not believed to be hereditary, but certain genetic mutations and conditions can be passed along to offspring that increase the chances of developing leukemia. A condition known as Li-Fraumeni syndrome is characterized by an inherited mutation in a tumor suppressor gene known as TP53, and individuals with this condition have an increased risk of leukemia and other cancers. Other hereditary conditions that can increase the risk of developing leukemia include Down syndrome, neurofibromatosis type 1, ataxia telangiectasia, and Noonan syndrome. Chronic coughing or pain in the chest area Chest pain, incessant coughing, and even pain that reaches down the arms are symptoms of leukemia and lung tumors. 3. Frequently having fevers or infections White blood cells help our body to fight off infections and foreign invaders. Leukemia is a type of blood cell cancer that begins in bone marrow and causes the body to produce abnormal white blood cells, which reduces the effectiveness of its ability to fight infections. 4. Trouble with swallowing If you have difficulty swallowing, you may want to get checked for preliminary esophageal or throat cancer. It is also associated with lung cancer as well. 5. Lymph nodes that are swollen or lumps on the skin of your neck, underarm, or groin Any drastic changes in your lymphatic system should be carefully observed. These changes could be warning signs of lymphatic cancer. 6. Over-bruising and excessive bleeding When platelets and red blood cells act abnormally, there becomes excessive bruising and bleeding. This is How You can Diagnose Leukemia In you Body | Signs and Symptoms of Leukemia |

03:09
This is How You can Diagnose Leukemia In you Body | Signs and Symptoms of Leukemia | Leukemia, also spelled leukaemia, is a group of cancers that usually begin in the bone marrow and result in high numbers of abnormal white blood cells. These white blood cells are not fully developed and are called blasts or leukemia cells. Symptoms may include bleeding and bruising problems, feeling tired, fever, and an increased risk of infections. These symptoms occur due to a lack of normal blood cells. Diagnosis is typically made by blood tests or bone marrow biopsy. The exact cause of leukemia is unknown. Different kinds of leukemia are believed to have different causes. Both inherited and environmental (non-inherited) factors are believed to be involved. In 2015, leukemia was present in 2.3 million people and caused 353,500 deaths. In 2012 it newly developed in 352,000 people. It is the most common type of cancer in children, with three quarters of leukemia cases in children being the acute lymphoblastic type. However, about 90% of all leukemias are diagnosed in adults, with AML and CLL being most common in adults. It occurs more commonly in the developed world. Signs and symptoms The most common symptoms in children are easy bruising, pale skin, fever, and an enlarged spleen or liver. Damage to the bone marrow, by way of displacing the normal bone marrow cells with higher numbers of immature white blood cells, results in a lack of blood platelets, which are important in the blood clotting process. This means people with leukemia may easily become bruised, bleed excessively, or develop pinprick bleeds (petechiae). White blood cells, which are involved in fighting pathogens, may be suppressed or dysfunctional. This could cause the patient's immune system to be unable to fight off a simple infection or to start attacking other body cells. Because leukemia prevents the immune system from working normally, some patients experience frequent infection, ranging from infected tonsils, sores in the mouth, or diarrhea to life-threatening pneumonia or opportunistic infections. Some patients experience other symptoms, such as feeling sick, having fevers, chills, night sweats, feeling fatigued and other flu-like symptoms. Some patients experience nausea or a feeling of fullness due to an enlarged liver and spleen; this can result in unintentional weight loss. Blasts affected by the disease may come together and become swollen in the liver or in the lymph nodes causing pain and leading to nausea. If the leukemic cells invade the central nervous system, then neurological symptoms (notably headaches) can occur. Uncommon neurological symptoms like migraines, seizures, or coma can occur as a result of brain stem pressure. All symptoms associated with leukemia can be attributed to other diseases. Consequently, leukemia is always diagnosed through medical tests. Some portion of the material is belong to wikipedia.org. Leukemia and Lymphoma: What is the difference? | Norton Cancer Institute

01:24
Don A. Stevens, M.D., Medical Oncologist at Norton Healthcare, explains the differences between leukemia and lymphoma, two types of blood cancers. The pathology or what's broken has a lot of similarities. The largest difference is where is the disease and how is it hurting the patient. So, if the disease is principally in the blood with a high white blood cell count then that's going to be called a leukemia and there are cases of lymphoma, for example, where there is a lot of overlap. There's a specific sub type of leukemia and lymphoma where it can either be principally in the blood and we call it leukemia or principally in the lymph nodes and we call it lymphoma. It is, in fact, the same disease. And that's an example a lot of overlap in those two diagnosis but in the lymphomas typically those are diseases that are going to be more solid, they're going to be in lymph nodes or in organs. They can involve the bone marrow, they frequently do involve the bone marrow. But they typically do not circulate, they typically are not going to be found in blood that you take out your arm, for example. Is leukemia cancer Subscribe My Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSQ9jXeLYjPBltSL9zCRvPQ Video Url: https://youtu.be/WujV-NJmIy4 Leukemia is cancer of the blood cells. It starts in the bone marrow, the soft tissue inside most bones. Bone marrow is where blood cells are made. White blood cells help your body fight infection. Red blood cells carry oxygen to all parts of your body. Platelets help your blood clot. When you have leukemia, the bone marrow starts to make a lot of abnormal white blood cells, called leukemia cells. They don't do the work of normal white blood cells. They grow faster than normal cells, and they don't stop growing when they should. Over time, leukemia cells can crowd out the normal blood cells. This can lead to serious problems such as anemia, bleeding, and infections. Leukemia cells can also spread to the lymph nodes or other organs and cause swelling or pain. There are several different types of leukemia. In general, leukemia is grouped by how fast it gets worse and what kind of white blood cell it affects. It may be acute or chronic. Acute leukemia gets worse very fast and may make you feel sick right away. Chronic leukemia gets worse slowly and may not cause symptoms for years. It may be lymphocytic or myelogenous. Lymphocytic or lymphoblastic leukemia affects white blood cells called lymphocytes. Myelogenous leukemia affects the other type of cells that normally become granulocytes, red blood cells, or platelets. Symptoms, Causes, Prevention and Treatments https://youtu.be/O72VWwooWNc There are many different types of lymphoma depending on the type of lymphatic cells affected. Lymphoma is a form of cancer that affects the immune system - specifically, it is a cancer of immune cells called lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. There are two broad types of lymphoma and many subtypes. or most cancers, researchers are still trying to understand how they are caused. The same is true for lymphoma - doctors do not know what causes it, although it is more likely to occur in certain people. A number of treatment options are used against lymphoma, many of which are common to other types of cancer. While statistics cannot predict the success of an individual person's treatment plan, which depends on numerous factors, including the stage of the cancer, the figures do show good overall success rates in beating lymphoma. A small number of lymphoma cases are treated by stem cell transplantation. This is a process that allows high-dose chemotherapy, and sometimes high-dose radiotherapy, to be given in cases that have not responded to standard treatment. High-dose treatment would usually cause unacceptable bone-marrow side-effects, but the stem cell transplant given after treatment restores damaged bone marrow. Infusion of blood-forming stem cells means that this function is not lost, and new blood cells can still be created. leukemia symptoms

What is Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)?

01:50
Inside the hollow area of the bones is a spongy core called bone marrow. It is here, that stem cells are produced. Stem cells are immature cells that can develop into components of blood: red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the body; white blood cells which fight infection; and platelets, which help blood to clot. Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a cancer of blood and bone marrow. In healthy patients, stem cells produce myeloblasts, or blasts, that develop into mature types of white blood cells. In AML these blasts do not develop into mature, healthy, cells, but rather develop into immature or abnormal cells. As the number of these abnormal cells increases in the blood and bone marrow, fewer healthy, functioning blood cells and platelets are produced. There are many subtypes of AML that are categorized according to how mature the white blood cells are at the time of diagnosis and how different these cells are from normal blood cells. The cancer cells can travel in the bloodstream, or metastasize, to other organs in the body where they can begin to form additional tumors. AML is the most common type of blood cancer in adults, and it can also affect children. Symptoms consist of fatigue, fever, bleeding, and bruising. Current therapy includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy, stem cell transplantation, and drug therapy. Clinical trials involving biologic therapy may be available. Your doctor is the best source of information regarding treatment for your condition. It is important to discuss with your doctor which therapy, if any, is most appropriate for you. what is chronic myeloid leukemia |How to Recognize the Signs of Leukemia

05:03
what is chronic myeloid leukemia |How to Recognize the Signs of Leukemia Leukemia is a blood cancer that affects the white blood cells in your body that are usually in charge of fighting infections and diseases. Those who suffer from leukemia have corrupted white blood cells that crowd out the healthy cells and lead to serious problems.[1] Leukemia can grow fast or slow, and there are several types.[2] Recognize the common symptoms of leukemia and learn when to seek treatment. 1 Check for symptoms that resemble the flu. These symptoms include having a fever, being tired, or having chills. If the symptoms fade after a few days and you feel healthy again, you probably just had the flu. That being said, if flu-like symptoms do not subside, see your physician. Leukemia patients often mistake leukemia symptoms to be those of the flu or other infections. In particular, look for: Continual weakness or tiredness Frequent or severe nosebleeds Repetitive infections Unexplained weight loss Inflamed lymph nodes Swollen spleen or liver Bleeding or bruising easily Small red marks on your skin Profuse sweating Bone cramps[3] Bleeding gums[4] 2 Register your fatigue level. Chronic fatigue is often an early symptom of leukemia. Because fatigue is quite common, many patients overlook this symptom. Weakness and very low energy can accompany fatigue.[5] Chronic fatigue is different from just feeling tired. If you feel unconcentrated or like your memory is weaker than normal, you might have chronic fatigue. Other symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, new and unexpected muscle pain, sore throat, or severe exhaustion lasting longer than one day.[6] You may also notice that you feel weak, such as in your limbs. It might be harder to do things that you normally do. Along with fatigue and weakness, you may also notice a change in your pallor. These changes may all be due to anemia, which is when you have low hemoglobin in your blood. Your hemoglobin transports oxygen to all of your tissues and cells 3 Monitor your weight. Losing a large amount of weight for no apparent reason is often a symptom of leukemia and other types of cancer. This symptom is called cachexia.[8] This can be a subtle symptom, and taken alone it doesn't necessarily point to cancer. Still, if you're losing weight without changing your regular diet and exercise habits, it's important to visit your doctor.[9] It's normal for weight to fluctuate up and down over time. Look for a slow but steady drop in weight through no effort of your own. Weight loss that’s related to sickness often is accompanied by a feeling of low energy and weakness rather than increased health. watch more helpful videos: 1,How to Use Meditation to Treat PTSD|ptsd and schizophrenia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uK9bfEo6Wk 2,How to Use a Mala|beads with meaning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmH799CS1yE 3,how does meditation help depression |guided meditation depression https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKhvdXnTawU 4,how to stop thinking about someone|things to do when depressed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hc8UpgrBK3g 5,time dilation theory |how to make time pass faster at work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YeEetijsf8 6,How to Practice Mindfulness of Death Meditation|buddhist death rituals 49 days-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBeZN1utJcY 7,How to Practice Compassion Meditation|simple meditation techniques-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-Mu7bt3T8A 8,How to Sleep in Zen Relaxation|zen sleep music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzgLrgUAQ-U 9,How to Increase Your Capacity to Channel Reiki Energy|reiki share https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KnNS8sPQ5c 10,focused attention meditation |meditation process for beginners https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPryrzBRy0o subscribe to more videos

Top 10 Cancer Causing Foods You Should Avoid

08:56
Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells. There are more than 100 types of cancer, including breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements. Many cancers can be prevented by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, not drinking too much alcohol, eating plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, not eating too much processed and red meat, and by avoiding many cancer causing foods that we have listed below. Microwave popcorn bags are lined with perfluorooctanoic acid, a compound that has been linked to various types of cancer, including liver, testicular and pancreatic cancer. Canned foods allow you to enjoy your favorite vegetables throughout the year. However, if you are concerned about your health, avoid canned food, especially canned tomatoes. The cans used to pack tomatoes and other foods are lined with a product called bisphenol A, BPA, an endocrine disruptor that may mimic or disrupt hormones and increase the risks for breast cancer, prostate cancer, early puberty, metabolic disorders, infertility, and several other problems. Farmed salmon is nowhere near as healthy as wild salmon, and eating farmed salmon puts you at a higher risk of developing cancer. Farm-raised fish are fed unnatural diets and contaminated with chemicals, antibiotics, pesticides and other known carcinogens found in materials like asbestos. Hydrogenated oils are vegetable oils, which cannot be naturally extracted like olive oil, soy or canola oil, they are chemically extracted from vegetables and is again chemically treated to change the smell and taste. This process turns unsaturated fat into a stable solid fat, resulting in trans fatty hydrogenated oil which is considered to be the worst type of fat and is known to cause cancer, heart disease, and immune system problems. Potato chips are deep-fried in temperatures above 120 degrees Celsius, which causes them to create a material called acrylamide, a well-known carcinogen found in cigarettes. Genetically modified foods (GMOs) are a rapidly growing industry and have made their way into the majority of our foods like corn, potatoes, grains and soybeans. Such food products are grown using harmful chemicals and, when consumed, can lead to immune system, brain and liver damage. Refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and fructose-rich sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup are not good for your health. These products tend to rapidly spike insulin levels and feed the growth of cancer cells. Refined White flour contains excess carbohydrates that are not good for your health and even increase the risk of cancer. During the milling process, white flour is bleached with chlorine gas, which is highly toxic for the body. Processed meats such as ham, sausage and bacon have chemicals and preservatives like sodium nitrates, which make them bad for your health. In addition, processed meat contains excessive salt, which is also not good for you. Pickled and smoked foods are delicious but, at the same time, very harmful to the body. In fact, smoked meats that pick up tar from the smoking process cause extreme harm to your body. Plus, most pickled foods contain nitrates that turn into N-nitroso, which increases your risk of cancer.

What is Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia?

01:31
Inside the hollow area of the bones is a spongy core called bone marrow. It is here, that stem cells are produced. Stem cells are immature cells that can develop into components of blood: red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the body; white blood cells or lymphocytes, which fight infection; and platelets, which helps blood to clot. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow produces too many lymphocytes. The term “chronic” means the cancer cells multiply slowly, and the disease takes a long time to develop. In CLL, the lymphocytes produced are abnormal and are not able to fight infection. As the number of these abnormal lymphocytes increase in the blood and bone marrow, fewer healthy white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets are produced. This can cause the symptoms of fatigue, recurring infection, anemia, and easy bruising. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia usually does not produce symptoms in the early stages. Treatment and prognosis depend on the stage and extent of the disease. Standard therapy includes “watchful waiting,” chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and monoclonal antibody therapy. Bone marrow stem cell transplantation is another type of therapy that is being tested in clinical trials. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia is the second most common leukemia in adults, and most often develops after middle age. CLL is not common in children. Your doctor is the best source of information regarding treatment for your condition. It is important to discuss with your doctor which therapy, if any, is most appropriate for you Help us caption & translate this video! http://amara.org/v/Na9W/

Cause of leukemia | how is leukemia diagnosed

01:51
Cause of leukemia Subscribe My Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSQ9jXeLYjPBltSL9zCRvPQ Video Url: https://youtu.be/0YkpIwj-mB0 Doctors classify leukemia based on its speed of progression and the type of cells involved. The first type of classification is by how fast the leukemia progresses: Acute leukemia. In acute leukemia, the abnormal blood cells are immature blood cells blasts. They can't carry out their normal functions, and they multiply rapidly, so the disease worsens quickly. Acute leukemia requires aggressive, timely treatment. Chronic leukemia. There are many types of chronic leukemias. Some produce too many cells and some cause too few cells to be produced. Chronic leukemia involves more mature blood cells. These blood cells replicate or accumulate more slowly and can function normally for a period of time. Some forms of chronic leukemia initially produce no early symptoms and can go unnoticed or undiagnosed for years. The second type of classification is by type of white blood cell affected: Lymphocytic leukemia. This type of leukemia affects the lymphoid cells lymphocytes, which form lymphoid or lymphatic tissue. Lymphatic tissue makes up your immune system. Myelogenous my-uh-LOHJ-uh-nus leukemia. This type of leukemia affects the myeloid cells. Myeloid cells give rise to red blood cells, white blood cells and platelet-producing cells.
