Preventing, aborting and surviving migraines (recommended medicines and lifestyle)

15:26
I've been struggling with migraines for a decade - my first episode was when I passed out and smashed my head into my grandfather's kitchen counter, then woke up alone on the floor. Since then they've gotten worse, but also better, as I learned more about how to manage the problem, avoid triggers and also experiment with migraine prevention medications. Right now I take a low dose of nortriptyline, propranolol and marijuana (if I can get it, depending on where I'm living) for migraine prevention. I still get occasional migraines that put me on the bathroom floor for a couple hours, which makes scheduling obligations difficult (luckily for me, I work online and can take a day off when I need it). I also touch briefly on the connection between migraines and famous creatives like Emily Dickinson.

Aimovig

19:44
Recently approved Aimovig may reduce the number of migraine attacks. This novel compound, injected once a month just under the skin, interferes with the action of a natural chemical thought to participate in causing headaches. Aimovig acts as a preventive against migraines but does not treat acute attacks. Long anticipated, it finally arrived in pharmacies in mid-2018 and appears relatively free of unwanted side effects. Amovig fails to completely eliminate migraines and seems to work only modestly better than placebo therapy. Unfortunately the cash price for this very expensive drug exceeds $8000 a year or in excess of $20 each day. While co-pay cards limit out of pocket expense, the insurance companies must find ways to increase their premiums in order to deal with these additional costs. Preventing migraine headaches minimizes the disruption wrought by this common disease. Other currently prescribed preventive drugs were approved for other purposes and lack FDA endorsement for their role in minimizing the occurrence of migraines. These include topiramate, amitriptyline and beta blockers such as propranolol and toprolol. Botox the wrinkle reducer received FDA marketing approval for migraine prevention but only provides modest benefits. Migraines affect 1 in 10 individuals with the toll especially common among women.

Placebo is as effective as drugs to prevent migranes in kids

05:23
According to an article published in the January issue of the journal, Pediatrics, placebo is as effective as drugs in preventing migraine headaches in children. Only two drugs, Topamax and trazadone, worked better than placebo, and the very minimal benefits were not worth the risks from side effects. The benefit of placebo was a reduction from six headaches per month to three. The two drugs reduced headaches by one additional headache per month. Drugs such as inderal (beta blocker) and Depakote were no better than placebo! So why are doctors not prescribing placebos for migraine headaches in kids? Would it be more ethical to use dangerous treatments? Hardly! There are many ways to deal with headaches in both kids and adults such as chiropractic, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, medication, yoga, tai chi, qigong, massage, psychotherapy, orthopedic medicine, and photonic stimulation (photonic stimulation). Dr. Len has used photonic stimulation to treat and prevent most all kinds of headaches very successfully. It has been unusual for him to not relieve a headache within 5 minutes (no not a misprint!) and to prevent further headaches using this plus other integrative strategies. Biofeedback and Migraines

42:17
Biofeedback is an effective protective procedure to sooth the nervous system before it responds with a migraine. At the first indication that a migraine may be on the way, a migraineur needs to make time for herself by taking 10 minutes to warm her finger temperature to 96 degrees F while listening to relaxing music. Research demonstrates that temperature biofeedback is as effective as Inderal in preventing migraine without the side effects.[i.] Over 500 studies[ii.] support the benefits of biofeedback as being threefold: 1) stabilize the sensitive nervous system of the migraineur during interictal periods; 2) lessen the frequency of migraine; 3) increase the migraineur’s sense of control. Biofeedback is an investment in health. Through biofeedback, an individual learns how to read internal cues concerning the system’s equilibrium. Once a person realizes that he or she has the ability to regulate the physiological stress level, biofeedback may be employed to maintain a healthy state. [i.] Holroyd KA, Penzien DB. Stress is Good Hindi Stress लेना अच्छा है By Manish Sethi Jain

03:47
Stress produces numerous physical and mental symptoms which vary according to each individual's situational factors. These can include physical health decline as well as depression. The process of stress management is named as one of the keys to a happy and successful life in modern society. Although life provides numerous demands that can prove difficult to handle, stress management provides a number of ways to manage anxiety and maintain overall well-being. Despite stress often being thought of as a subjective experience, levels of stress are readily measurable, using various physiological tests, similar to those used in polygraphs. Many practical stress management techniques are available, some for use by health professionals and others, for self-help, which may help an individual reduce their levels of stress, provide positive feelings of control over one's life and promote general well-being. Evaluating the effectiveness of various stress management techniques can be difficult, as limited research currently exists. Consequently, the amount and quality of evidence for the various techniques varies widely. Some are accepted as effective treatments for use in psychotherapy, while others with less evidence favoring them are considered alternative therapies. Many professional organizations exist to promote and provide training in conventional or alternative therapies. There are several models of stress management, each with distinctive explanations of mechanisms for controlling stress. Much more research is necessary to provide a better understanding of which mechanisms actually operate and are effective in practice. Stress is Good Through PMW By Manish Sethi Jain.
